Is it me or does number 2 seem to take longer to conceive?

Wasted another expensive pregnancy test on Wednesday morning (CD38) and then a premonition caused me to stick in one of my cloth pads... I was right! Kind of relieved because at least now the next cycle can start. Nothing is worse than BFP or AF. Onto cycle 3... (although cycle 1 was kind of a write off as we only DTD once).

I'm vaguely considering OPKs given my cycle seems to have become a lot more variable than it was when my conceived DD. Although she was a one hit wonder honeymoon baby so just never really had to track seriously. I always said I wouldn't as "trying hard" sounds really stressful... but I do wonder if it would increase our chances. I think maybe this cycle I won't; will just try to DTD every 3 days if we can from CD10 to CD24 or thereabouts. That should cover it if my cycle is between 30 and 38 days right?!

Congrats sassenach!

crazychemist · 20/04/2019 19:49

Woooo congratulations sassenach! So exciting for you, well done!

Ah snow, on to the next cycle and the next opportunity! I just wish AF would turn up tomorrow. Not due for best part of another 2 weeks, but I hate doing the 2ww when I already know I missed the window. Feels like such a waste of time. Trying to focus on the really lovely day I had with DD today.... although she conked out on the sofa just before 7pm having not had any dinner. That’s bedtime out the window! (Should have been at 8pm, but she nodded off while I was cooking and I just don’t feel mean enough to wake her when she’s unwell still)

sassenach84 · 21/04/2019 03:47

Sorry to hear @snowscreamer. I would definitely recommend OPKs depending on how well you know your cycle. Without them I would have never known that I OV a week later than what's "normal". In my case I feel they just allow me to maximise the DTD efforts in the right window and take it easier the rest of the time. So I don't think they make me more obsessive. But I reckon it depends on the kind of person you are. I like them for the information and clarity the give me Smile

sassenach84 · 21/04/2019 03:55

@Chips4dinneragain what will be your due date? Mine would be 25 Dec based on first day of last AF but really 1 Jan based on conception since I OV late.

Chips4dinneragain · 21/04/2019 08:46

25th December?!? That would be intense! Mine is 22nd December based on first day of AF, but based on my calculation of when I think I ovulated I reckon 18th December is more accurate, at least I'm hoping my calculation is more accurate!

Will you have finished your masters by then? I'll be in the first semester of my second year but as I'm doing it PT over three years I've still got a way to go.

sassenach84 · 21/04/2019 09:23

18th Dec is nice - a Sagittarius Smile

Yes I should be finished by early December if I can manage to do enough modules in the autumn. I've been doing it part time since Jan 2016 with one year out in the middle. So eager to finish!

Chips4dinneragain · 21/04/2019 17:53

Going to be a busy autumn then! I'm going to have to try and get my related assignments for my two modules done before going on mat leave which will be a squeeze, but presumably much better than returning from mat leave and immediately having to write two assignments!

My MA will have taken 4 years once mat leave is taken into account, i imagine everything I learnt in the first year will have completely gone out of my head by the time I complete it.

@Chips4dinneragain you'll be fine as long as you enjoy the topic and learning. I find that makes a real difference. After my 1 year out it took a week or two to get back into the groove but as I really enjoy my MSc it has been a breeze really. I'll have done 4 years by the end of the year. But still an entirely different situation to doing my BA in my early 20s when priorities were a bit different

@moonpeace So very sorry to hear of your losses. Have you had any investigations done as to why they keep happening? That sounds really tough and disheartening. If it's any consolation I have a few friends with large age gaps 4+ years between kids and the older kids are so incredibly wonderful and loving with the young ones, it's really heartwarming to see.

nespressowoo · 22/04/2019 21:45

Hi @moonpeace, pull up a chair and a Brew. Sorry to hear of your losses, we seem to have some good baby vibes on this thread so hopefully you’ll get a sticky bean soon enough. I’m not quite looking at that age gap yet, hoping for about 3.5 years. If I’m honest I’d have liked shorter, but that hasn’t happened so I’m looking into all the positives of a 3+ age gap e.g. greater independence for older one, older one will be able to help with babysitting etc later on, older one may enjoy looking after little one, older one will be at school by the end of my second mat leave so I won’t be paying for 2 lots of childcare at the same time (that’s the really big one!)

Oh @nespressowoo I’m so sorry. It looked so hopeful. I hope you got to enjoy your party anyway. Hope AF is kind to you today. Start that count down again! It’s really good news that your bloods came back normal, so maybe next month is the month for you. Fingers crossed that you’ll be cuddling a new baby in the new year.

So jealous of you ladies doing MAs. I’d really love to do one, but can’t justify the expense now, they’re so expensive! My school sometimes supports teachers and pays part of the fees, but they won’t do that for me while I’m part time already, and I doubt I’d do it full justice while DD is such a poor/unreliable sleeper.

DH and I are finally feeling better, but well past FW now. I’m so determined that nothing will stop us timing this perfectly next cycle! I know that still doesn’t guarantee anything by any means, but I’m very frustrated to feel like I haven’t given myself a good chance on either of the last two cycles. Brings me back to the title of the thread Grin it wasn’t this hard to dtd pre DD!

WontYouDance · 23/04/2019 10:17

A day late and bfn with fmu today. Normally bang on time so I’m confused. Still haven’t had my pre-AF migraine or sore boobs either. Haven’t been ill or stressed to account for lateness either.

This has happened once before though where AF was 2 weeks late with no apparent reason, wish it would hurry the fuck up if it’s coming

@moonpeace keep the faith!

I'm turning 35 this year. Conceived DD when 32 on first cycle. Now gotten BFP on 7th cycle (using OPKs each time, etc).

sassenach84 · 23/04/2019 18:16

@WontYouDance that's so frustrating when you don't know what's going on. AF playing evil games! Sorry to hear no BFP (yet).

nespressowoo · 24/04/2019 13:45

I'm two days late and BFNs. All signs gone of whether it's coming or not!

sassenach84 · 24/04/2019 13:57

Hi @nespressowoo that's annoying but could still be positive. How regular are you? Which tests did you use? Keeping fingers crossed for you!

nespressowoo · 24/04/2019 14:03

Hi @sassenach84 how are you feeling?

I've used x4 frers, two from work and two from Sainsbury's today which when I removed from the case looked positive-ish but don't know if that was because the blue dye had run.

When I had my miscarriage last year I didn't get a positive on the frers, just a Clearblue one and a v faint on Tesco blue dye one.

nespressowoo · 24/04/2019 14:03

Oh and I am v regular. I have 25 day cycles. Now on day 27

nespressowoo · 24/04/2019 14:20

Spoke too soon - AF here Blush

crazychemist · 24/04/2019 17:48

Aw, sorry to hear that nespresso. At least now you can move onto the next attempt. Hold on to those good blood results and stay hopeful.

Any change @Wontyoudance?

I’m horrifically spotty and look like a teenager. It’s terribly embarrassing at work I feel like I have big targets on my face! Stupid hormones. Not really what I needed right now. Another reason to want to be pregnant, my skin was great when I was expecting DD! Wink and I had great hair too, you wouldn’t have known I was constantly puking to look at me!

Thinking of things to do to “celebrate” not being pregnant this cycle. Picnic with lots of pate and blue smelly blue cheese and a big big Wine? Anyone got any suggestions?

Chips4dinneragain · 24/04/2019 18:05

Hi all, sorry to hear AF reared her ugly head with so many of you.

chemist I always cheered myself up with Camembert and wine in the evening then really strong coffee the next morning.

sassenache just to update you I asked my GP about B50, she said as B vitamins are water soluble any excess is generally just flushed out in your urine so she didnt think it would do any harm, however she said as she isn't actually aware of any research on higher than usual doses it might be safer to switch to normal pregnancy multi vitamin. So I'm going to reduce off it - plan is to have half a tablet for next three days along with pregnecare (or similar), then reduce to half tablet every other day for 6 days then stop.

sassenach84 · 24/04/2019 18:51

Ah @nespressowoo so sorry to hear that. Typical isn't it, AF just lurking around the corner and giving hope. What's positive though is that with such short cycles you won't have to wait long till you get another go Wishing you success for the next round!

@crazychemist I have the worst skin when pregnant on the other hand. Not gotten that far yet but last time it was horrendous.

Enjoy the vino!! DH and I are going away for the weekend without DD and plan was to wine and dine and go out but I think we'll be turning it into a relaxing time off instead now. Or rather, I'll get to watch DH enjoy a drink lol. I second the coffee suggestion too!

@Chips4dinneragain Thanks for letting me know! I had thought that too and had started taking a tablet every other day and will be stopping soon. In any case I only took the vitamin after OV and before AF so for about 10 days a month.
