Is it me or does number 2 seem to take longer to conceive?

I know when I was pregnant second time and baby would have been due when DD was 2.5 and all my friends and family members were having their babies just after I was due so they would have all been same age I thought that would have been good timing! But that didn't work out so though there's no other babies due same time as this one I really hope it's ok and works out this time coz my DD will almost be 4 I think this would be better! Xx

crazychemist · 16/06/2019 09:40

Cycle is officially bonkers. Despite having many symptoms of impending AF, had EWCM yesterday, so took an OPK today and it came up positive straight away - first time I’ve ever had a line darker than the control line.

Will have to grab DH during DDs nap! Means AF prob not due to July I think... but who knows with my cycle???

Wondering if I should set myself a deadline - if I don’t have a bfp by X date I will speak to the doctor about hormone tests. Not sure if it would make me feel better to know or not

Explorers10 · 16/06/2019 10:03

@crazychemist that’s good the line is darker than the control line, mine never get so dark on the cheap tests. Would go for it and keep doing the deed. How long have you been trying for? No harm going to the gp for anything it may give you peace of mind.

My cycle has been weird too, my AF came on Friday or so I thought as had blood in my pants and blood when I wiped. I was out Friday and had a glass of wine. However I’ve had no more blood than after I wiped fri evening. My temps still show as high and getting cramp pains. I also am on holiday now abroad (went yesterday morning) and because I thought I had my AF I unpacked my pregnancy tests from my suitcase! Will just have to wait and see now if my AF shows on tues. also got the clomid packed. What a nightmare. Why do our bodies play tricks on us

Oh that sounds hopefull explorers, I know there is always a reluctance to get your hopes up, but spotting 4 days before AF could be a good sign if you don't usually spot. How frustrating to be on holiday with no tests though! When are you back home?

chemist that is odd, what CD are you on? Good luck this cycle, sounds like an indication of a strong ovulation!

NicoleP95 · 16/06/2019 12:27

Hey ladies thought I'd jump in on the post and reading all of your comments it makes me feel like I'm not the only person who is TTC baby number 2! I've been trying for 8 months but I've recently started using OPK's, I've been to the doctors who took bloods which come back fine and I've recently just had a transvaginal scan and an ultrasound which shows a small fibroid in my uterine wall, I'm so praying this won't affect my fertility, does anybody else have any fibroids?

Explorers10 · 16/06/2019 12:37

@chips4dinneragain

I have never spotted before not even when I was pregnant when number 1. Back on sat morning, I guess it’s not too long to wait. Will stay off the booze but won’t give my hopes off. Will let you know if AF shows

Wrigleys123 · 16/06/2019 13:14

Welcome Nicole I don't know much about fibroids but it sounds like your GP wasn't too concerned so that can be a good sign?

CD12 here for me so should be trying an OPK today!

Chips4dinneragain · 16/06/2019 13:31

So hard trying not to get your hopes up, hopefully your holiday is distracting you explorers, but crossing everything for you anyway.

Welcome nicole, I don't know anything about fibroids I'm afraid but can empathise with the slog of TTC no.2. When was your scan and have you got a follow up appointment to discuss the results?

wriglies good luck!

NicoleP95 · 16/06/2019 13:36

Thanks for the welcome ladies☺️ how are you both getting on with the TTC? I had my scan the Tuesday just gone but I've got doctors again tomorrow for a blood test as I am slightly anaemic which I think is linked to the fibrioids, I was continually bleeding inbetween periods a couple of months ago but things have seemed to settle down although my OPK showed I ovulated CD 11-12 isn't that to early for a 28 day cycle? I say 28 day cycle it changes nearly monthly!

crazychemist · 16/06/2019 16:36

Oh explorers, fingers crossed! Maybe being away from tests will be good, as you won’t be tempted to test early and have the rollercoaster of not knowing if it’s too early to test/getting a faint one and worrying if it doesn’t get darker etc. So AF is due on Tuesday, but you don’t get home till Saturday? Fingers crossed she never shows up!

Welcome nicole. My DMum had fibroids, and although I took a little longer to turn up than they had planned, there’s only a 3 year gap between me and my sister, so didn’t cause any particular problems with her. She had absolutely loads, had them + one ovary out once she’d finished having kids. She bled very heavily, which is why she had them removed in the end. But no problems with pregnancy, hopefully you find the same.

Good luck wrigleys! Let us know if you see anything. I’ve only been using them the last 3 cycles, but I find I get a faint line for 4/5 days before I get a decently dark one, so maybe you’ll be able to see something today!

Managed to capture DH during DDs nap just in case my mysterious OPK line is a late ovulation. I tested again and it’s still nice and dark. If this is ovulation this time, then AF is probably not due to the end of the month now, but with my weird cycles who knows! Today was CD26, I had a positive OPK on day 16, but it wasn’t as dark as the control line and lasted less than 24 hours. I also had no EWCM and no ovulation pain. But I had EWCM yesterday and today and sharp poking feeling on one side today and a really strong OPK line today, first time I’ve ever had one darker than the control line.

Chips4dinneragain · 16/06/2019 16:52

I am 14 weeks pregnant nicole after what felt like an eternity TTC no. 2. I don't think ovulating around CD11 is too early for. 28 day cycle, if anything it's better to have a slightly longer period of time after ovulating as that gives the egg a bit of time to implant before your uterus starts shedding. I ovulated on CD8/9 the cycle I got my BFP, and my cycles range between 24/28 days.

chemist I'm hesitant to say it but is there any chance you are actually pregnant and the OPK is reacting to the pregnancy hormones? I had positive OPKs and EWCM the day I got my early BFP - having had neither around the time I actually ovulated. I guess the other possibility is you are one of those people who has a couple of LH surges (I read an article about it once, seemed pretty decent) but don't ovulate after each one, that might explain the weaker OPK positive 10 days ago.

Explorers10 · 16/06/2019 17:04

@crazychemist I know I’m going to try and enjoy myself on holiday. The cocktails do look amazing here but going for anything non alcoholic until AF shows up. The hotel im at is a big all inclusive with no local shops nearby or anything to get a pregnancy test. Doh I’m so silly for taking the tests out my luggage!

I’ve heard stuff about opks can get darker if pregnant on another forum on mumsnet whether that’s true or not I don’t know. Good luck really hope you catch that egg.

Will disappear off mumsnet now for a week, speak later ladies

@Chips4dinneragain

Snap! That’s what I said about crazychemist being pregnant with dark opk Grin

OP posts:
MummyBearBoo · 16/06/2019 17:34

@crazychemist -my cycles were a bit irregular but the thing that was always regular was that unless I had a CP AF always turned up 2 weeks to the day after positive OPK-so maybe take AF to be due 2 weeks after today and see if it's late -unless you're pregnant already!! Xx

crazychemist · 17/06/2019 10:36

Nah, definitely not pregnant, just my cycle being wonky. OPK still positive today, but less strong, and I did an internet cheapies pregnancy test just in case, definitely negative. But feeling confident about ovulation, and jumped DH yesterday so just need to keep pestering him for the next few days Grin. Now if I could just have a decent luteal phase..... fingers crossed for me ladies!

Wrigleys123 · 17/06/2019 11:12

Enjoy your holiday Explorers !

I struggle with OPKs as I'm never sure the best time to do them and always struggle to hold my pee in for that long Grin I get a lot of EWCM but don't think it means that I'm ovulating especially with the PCOS, fingers crossed though!

Chips4dinneragain · 17/06/2019 19:29

Good luck chemist, fingers crossed!

wrigleys I always found second wee of the day (usually about 2hrs after I've got up with only 1 small drink in between) gave best results, this was also true of pregnancy tests which I took a million of between getting my BFP on cd16 and seeing my GP at 5wks

Yvonne1988 · 17/06/2019 20:25

I am just starting to try. I have 6 months for it to hopefully happen. Im 30 and my 1st is almost 9. I have been on the pill for about 5 years. Just came off it on Friday after only taking 7 days so having a withdrawal bleed. I'm hoping it doesn't take longer than 6 months. I was confident until I looked at the internet..

Yvonne1988 · 17/06/2019 20:26

To add. For my first I didn't even have to try so this is all new. Pretty sure I started on a Monday and by Friday I could just tell

MummyBearBoo · 17/06/2019 22:49

Good luck @Yvonne1988, @Wrigleys123 sbd @crazychemist!!
I'm 10+3 today just heard baby's heartbeat with a Doppler it's about 165bpm I know people don't recommend using them but my dad's a GP and showed my husband how to use it properly a lot of people mistake their own heart rate or that of the placenta for the baby's but my heart rate is about 80bpm - or people can't find the heartbeat and panic it is difficult to do especially this early!! Most of my symptoms are subsiding my bump (water retention I think) makes me look about 20 weeks gone, my boobs still hurt and my CVS and next scan is a week today!!! Xx

crazychemist · 18/06/2019 13:37

Hi there Yvonne! Don't let us worry you, most people do conceive in under 6 months. Those of us that are on here for support are in the minority. There's no reason to think you'll end up on the same boat. I believe the stats are that a healthy couple have a 25% chance of conceiving in any cycle, so there's not reason to think you won't have a BFP soon Smile

Oooh MummyBear, only a week to go! I think it's lovely that you've got to hear the heart beat already, and it's nice that your symptoms are subsiding.

Yvonne1988 · 18/06/2019 14:08

Thank you :) I came off my pill on Friday after only being on it for a week this time and I am bleeding and cramping like I was before I was on it. So hopefully is away by weekend and I can make a start

@crazychemist thanks but I'm so stressed out the results take about 4-5 days and I get other results for less common conditions after 2-3 weeks!!
@Yvonne1988 I had a CP on cycle 3 and conceived cycle 5 so despite complications I had for various reasons including PCOS I still conceived in less that 6 months! Xx

Wrigleys123 · 20/06/2019 18:17

Just checking in! Hope your scan goes well next week mummy

Nicole did you say you were having a blood test? Hope it goes ok too.

Been doing some opk action and have got a positive the other day but not sure if this means I'm ovulating as I know PCOS can give false positives!

Now my 3 year old is shouting for me so I'm off for now!
