Hello all :)

I posted a thread but didn’t get any response, so I thought I’d pop this in here for any advice or info from people who have experienced similar...

Trying to keep it brief

  • Came off the pill on Jan 28th
  • Had normal monthly ‘period’ afterwards for the normal 5 day duration
  • Had a fair amount unprotected sex since (with Husband!)
  • Had some withdrawal symptoms since coming off the pill - headaches, cramping, sinus pain, sore back, dizziness - all things I don’t get on a normal period
  • Period was scheduled to hit yesterday (according to Flo)
  • On Wednesday I started to spot and it has continued since. Yesterday I thought my period was starting as it got a bit heavier and I considered changing to a pad rather than a liner which I have been using. It’s not heavy enough for a pad. But spotting pretty much stopped over night.

Is it just a case of waiting for my normal period to return? Was this the period but just different and light after 10 years on the pill?

hiddenfigure · 04/03/2019 15:45

Sorry... I should have said period was due to hit on Saturday

Lozzlepop · 04/03/2019 16:01

@mrsawhite you got this, just try and distract yourself until then!

starkid · 04/03/2019 16:15

@hiddenfigure - Hi, what cycle day are you on, and do you have any idea of when you might have ovulated? I read somewhere on here that it doesn't have to take much blood altogether (sorry tmi) in order for a bleed to be considered a period, rather than anything else. Also your cycles might just be trying to sort themselves out after the pill. For example I never used to spot and now do for a couple of days before/after.
Can always do a pregnancy test if you're worried though?

Jessikka · 04/03/2019 16:16

Hey @hiddenfigure

I'm afraid it's impossible to say either way? Every woman is different.

Personally, i think the spotting will turn into heavier flow over the next few days.

I remember my first proper period was very heavy and messy for a day or so and has lightened since.

I stopped the pill in December so I'm not far ahead of you and each cycle has been different, but like you my withdrawal month was awful and full of symptoms but it's calmed down since 😊

FlapJackered · 04/03/2019 16:34

@daisiesandpeonies don't put yourself down, so many of us have felt like you do now and it's completely natural and ok to feel rubbish and hurt sometimes. It is a gruelling process ttc and it is made even harder by seeing our friends and family get pregnant and have babies. Since the MC I can barely look at a baby without either feeling angry or like I am going to cry. I am having to avoid all tv shows with babies in too. I know it's not rational but that's ok with me as I know I will pick myself up and try again, as that is all we can do. Don't give up, if it helps I allow myself to be upset when af comes but once I have had my cry I try and focus on making a plan of action for things to try and being positive for the new cycle. Easier said than done but try to push the negative thoughts out of your head when they surface, like how long you have been trying and worrying about what ifs. It will happen and dwelling on those thoughts doesn't help and isn't healthy. I know it's hard as we have both been here a long time but I got a bfp after a year of ttc and there is no reason why next cycle won't be your time. Xx

@KatBeCool am I allowed to be cautiously optimistic for you!?! So excited for your testing tomorrow, I have everything crossed!!!

@Ferii I have been trying for over a year now - one of the longest running thread members! I did get pregnant in January but sadly miscarried at 6.5 weeks which was not fun. I am hoping that it wasn't anything to do with the hypothyroidism but have booked a blood test to check my levels anyway. Fingers crossed your periods are ok now! I wouldn't have thought it would mean anything negative for fertility but good to get some reassurance from your doctor.

Thanks @BabySquid - mine is still a strong positive after a week. The docs did say it might take upto 3 weeks but I just want to move on now and start ttc but I don't think it's a good idea unless I am getting a negative. It's a weird feeling poas and desperately wanting it to be a bfn 😂

Hi @hiddenfigure - unfortunately coming off the pill can really mess up your cycle for a while as your hormones regulate again. My periods are a lot lighter off the pill, I expect that was your period and as you build up your lining they should start to get heavier with time.

FlapJackered · 04/03/2019 16:35

🙈 sorry for the essay!!

daisiesandpeonies · 04/03/2019 16:52

Thanks so much everyone for the messages - can't tag everyone but truly it means a lot to me. I allowed myself a good cry and am now on my way home with this period haul.... BabySquid Glad I'm not the only Monday mini break down! (Could that be a new Mumsnet term, a mmbd?😂)
@FlapJackered you've been through it far worse so thanks so much for your kindness when you're struggling. All we can do is keep going! Our first borns will be so loved and wanted when they finally arrive ❤️

@hiddenfigure arrrghhh coming off the pill! Category 1 nightmare. My longest cycle was 67 days and shortest 27... very heavy and PMS and skin have been horrific. Seems to be settling down now though, less surprises each month. Like everyone's said, each body reacts differently.

TTC FIRST BABY - Thread 14!
Jessikka · 04/03/2019 17:26

@daisiesandpeonies please can I join you in munching that?

I just restarted slimming world and it's proving a good distraction - but I miss eating my weight in choc 👩🏻‍🍳

Jesus I'm only on day 3. I need to get a grip. 😂

KatBeCool · 04/03/2019 17:34

@FlapJackered I don't know. My boobs feel, I don't know how to describe it, I am just very aware of them, but no soreness. I get some pulling feeling maybe couple times a day. But nothing other than that. IC was negative yesterday but that may not mean anything. 13dpo today, if anything, progesterone is helping in keeping AF away. I guess I should buy a frer, AF most likely won't come until I stop progesterone and I don't want to wait longer than necessary.

@daisiesandpeonies I see chocolate! 😂

TTC34 · 04/03/2019 18:16

@LuckyPenguin well well well! We are cycle buddies (I'm only a day behind you) and yes same age - until this weekend anyway and I may have to change that profile name Wink
Shall we keep each other company this month? Any weird or wonderful tactics you're trying?

LuckyPenguin · 04/03/2019 18:21

@TTC34 - I'm 35 in July! @BostonFern is cycle day buddies with us too!

I am doing SMEP (starting this month), taking my temp with my basal thermometer (new this month) & OPKs.

How about you? X

OhMarnie · 04/03/2019 18:24

Are the internet cheapies messing with me again? Should I just chuck the whole packet in the bin? 😣 🤷🏼‍♀️

TTC FIRST BABY - Thread 14!
TTC34 · 04/03/2019 18:27

@LuckyPenguin @BostonFern let's do it! Nothing too hardcore this month for me. I've a pretty text book ovulation pattern so just lots of POAS and BD and I'm also taking evening primrose oil (until ovulation) as I don't get a lot of EWCM. Fx for March, it would be a lovely Mother's Day surprise for us all.

PineappleC · 04/03/2019 18:32

Hi all, can I join? This seems like a fun group!! 😁

TTC #1, cycle 5 (But had to go back on the pill for a month last month for my wedding, so technically cycle2 🤷‍♀️) and currently 3dpo. Let's hope it's a good month 😁🤞🤞

BostonFern · 04/03/2019 18:41

Evening ladies!

Sorry you've had a tough few days @daisiesandpeonies X

@FlapJackered Sending you hugs, I can't imagine how tough seeing babies and related announcements must be at the moment x

@TTC34 yep, CD 8 here- and another turning 35 very soon. I'm still doing OPKs this month, decided against buying a BBT and starting that yet. I think it might just stress me out more this cycle.

Hope you've all had good days. I'm feeling a bit down today, had a lovely dream that I'd found out I was pregnant (at 11 +3 and panicking about getting booked in- as if I'd go that long without POAS 😂) and then woke up feeling a bit blue when I realised it was only a dream. I've also got a chronic pain condition, which has been bad today and trying to take absolutely minimum painkillers has probably made it more challenging.
Doing SMEP again, so at least I feel like we are going to do the best we can this cycle.

MrsR16 · 04/03/2019 18:43

@TrashKitten10 super excited for you to test tomorrow!! I've got everything crossed for you x

@OhMarnie that looks like a line... have you got a FRER? I'd test tomorrow if I were you!

@daisiesandpeonies sorry, kinda late to the party, but you got this!! That baby will come along before you know it! (I'm not even on my period and I'd come and share that haul with you!) 😂

@PineappleC welcome! This is definitely the best place to be 😊

@FlapJackered you wonderful lady, it's fantastic to hear from you! I hope you're doing ok. I've missed your essays! 🤣

@hiddenfigure I've been off the pill since last summer and my periods are still all over the place... some really heavy, some really light! I was on the pill for 10 years due to awkward AF - 7 days on, 7 days off! It was horrendous...

orangeloo · 04/03/2019 19:09

@OhMarnie what dpo are you? Definitely test again. FX for you x

@Ferii @PineappleC welcome! This thread is a great support system.

OhMarnie · 04/03/2019 19:15

@orangeloo literally no idea! I don't track and I have long/irregular cycles. My boobs have hurt for 2 weeks but to be fair that is normally what happens before my period. Not holding out much having been burned by these tests before but will pick up an frer after work tomorrow and see.

MrsH497 · 04/03/2019 19:21

Hi ladies how are we all?

@OhMarnie I would say that's a good line but totally understand your apprehension.

@FlapJackered how are you?

Welcome to all the new ladies this is a lovely supportive group.

X

starkid · 04/03/2019 19:41

@OhMarnie - That's a definite line! FRER time Grin FX!!

OhMarnie · 04/03/2019 19:48

I've taken two more tonight because apparently I don't have any self control 🙄 DH isn't sure (he expected to see a line as dark as the control) but we shall see. Sorry for the test spam I just don't want to talk to anyone else about it until I have a clear answer so you ladies get a stream of my conscious thoughts I'm afraid!

@OhMarnie another vote for here for BFP...good luck! Will look forward to your Frer picGrin

orangeloo · 04/03/2019 20:22

@OhMarnie yes, seconding what others have said. Totally under your apprehension - but on the other hand that is 3 now. Everything crossed for you lovely! x
