  • Thou shalt not tell everyone to eat yams
  • Thou shall accept being called a muppet for testing at 7dpo at 9pm at night

Hi yammers, I hope you're doing ok.
Congratulations @cupcakesandglitter. Wishing you all the best through the rest of your journey.

I'm feeling very low this morning, 11dpo but also cd1 of new cycle, bleeding first thing giving me a 29 day cycle, I haven't had anything less than 33 days since getting af back. My poor OH is sad and disappointed. It's heartbreaking seeing him try to mask it to make me feel better. I think this af is worse because it caught me totally off guard, no bloating or cramps which I usually get two days before. Just a big horrible surprise! Could metformin have anything to do with a shorter cycle?

NoseringGirl · 28/07/2019 11:52

@Lilzpk sorry AF got you! Do you track your ovulation at all? Could have ovulated earlier than usual?

Lilzpk · 28/07/2019 12:22

Thanks, I do track ovualtion usually I use clearblue advanced digital and wondfo strips, but I only used the strips this cycle, I had positive strips on Tuesday 16th and wednesday18th so I'm pretty sure.

dragonmummy17 · 28/07/2019 13:24

@cupcakesandglitter so happy for you. Hoping all continues to go well... please stick around and keep us updated.

Sorry I haven't been around much for a few weeks. CD6 and feeling pretty fed up. DH found out last week he will be made redundant by Christmas. Plus after weeks of chasing our fertility referral it got to the central referral hub, was reviewed and sent straight back to the GP. I don't know why and can't get a phone appointment to speak to her until Friday 2 weeks after it got rejected. So 2 massively stressful things going on at the same time. Life is tough sometimes!

NoseringGirl · 28/07/2019 13:54

@Lilzpk would that match up with your AF then? Hoping this is your cycle now with the metformin!

@dragonmummy17 that sounds really stressful! My referral got rejected last time around and my GP had to appeal for me. It got accepted the second time though. Hope you get some answers soon.
Sorry to hear about your DH's job. Hopefully he'll manage to find something new by Christmas!

CD26 here. My temps had gone up as if I'd ovulated but have dropped right back down again. I had some spotting a few days ago that didn't turn into anything, so I'd hoped it was implantation but got a BFN today. I hate how confusing my body can be.

Lilzpk · 28/07/2019 18:15

@NoseringGirl, I normally have a 13 day luteal phase, I guess two days off is not that early but it's the first cycle that it's been shorter. It would be great if my cycles will be shorter now with the metformin but I'd have hoped that my follicular phase would be the bit that got shortened. 🤔 It's crap that you got a bfn this morning. Do you use opks or just track through temping? I know it's no consolation but I think all women are confused by what their bodies are doing at times, it's a minefield trying to work out what going on when they throw a spanner in the works!

@dragonmummy17, sorry about your OHs news. Mine was made redundant last month, it's tough but he's now excited to move on and do something that he'll hopefully find more fulfilling, I hope the same for yours, it might give him some better opportunities.

dragonmummy17 · 29/07/2019 11:10

@Lilzpk sorry to hear your DH was made redundant too... I'm glad he is feeling more positive
@NoseringGirl sorry for the bfn. I hope your body is just having a little wobble before getting some more regular cycles again...

NoseringGirl · 29/07/2019 19:53

I had that blood test to check my iron levels this morning. GP receptionist called with the results this afternoon. I wasn't expecting it to be that soon! My levels are low so she's prescribed iron supplements. I'm now googling iron levels and fertility to see whether it's going to help 😆

impatientmammy · 29/07/2019 20:16

👋 today I have cried. A lot. I got the horrible spotting that means my period will come tomorrow. I tried to clean the carpets but mostly I've cried. It's been nearly 2 years now we can't afford IVF and I don't think I can stop trying but I don't think I'm going to get pregnant either. It seems to get harder every month. Has anyone got passed this or are we just destined to live like this? X

NotMaryWhitehouse · 31/07/2019 16:52

@impatientmammy I'm m sorry you're feeling down- I hope you're feeling better today. I go through waves of it- some days I'm fine, others it just washes over me and my mood goes so low.

It's hard to be positive all the time and frankly I don't think we should be. This is the hardest, most frustrating thing I have ever been through and I feel practically powerless to do anything to help.

Lilzpk · 31/07/2019 19:11

@Impatientmammy, it sucks that you're feeling so down. I think for some couples/or single parents, the journey is just hard, unfair, long! It totally fine to feel how you feel. I'm in Ireland so any healthcare is expensive, and ivf is very expensive, in that aspect I understand the fear and sadness of thinking that money is holding you back from what you want, it's rough. We're all here with you though and getting it off your chest can sometimes help. Are you being offered any help at all, after two years? It's such a long time

impatientmammy · 31/07/2019 19:42

@NotMaryWhitehouse thank you. It's definite waves I'm feeling so much better today I had a similar evening a couple of months ago but they seem to be getting more regular.
@Lilzpk I am sooo fortunate to have a little boy which means I'm not eligible for anything but the blood tests.
Thank you both ladies I had 3 days of spotting then nothing today but I do have cramp and a very negative pregnancy test. How's your cycles going? Do you get any help in Ireland @Lilzpk ? X

Lilzpk · 01/08/2019 22:16

Aww so glad to hear that you have a little boy! ❤️ That's amazing. The only help that you can get in ireland for fertility is 20% back in tax return on the cost of medications. It's really nothing. And fertility treatment is 90% consultant led, private fees per appt are on average 300 per go, not including the fees for scans, blood tests, writing scripts etc! I am under care of a free public endocrinologist for thyroid problems but it's only two appointments per year. It's really an intense pressure to be able to access the right medical help, it's such a shame that money can be a barrier to having our babies. ☹️

impatientmammy · 02/08/2019 01:01

@Lilzpk have you thought about or have the abuility to travel for treatment? I've looked into ivf abroad Im not sure if that's where your at yet though x

@impatientmammy how are you feeling today? Its such a hard journey... and those waves of emotion are so hard to cope with sometimes. I can't remember... have you had any tests done at all? We won't be able to afford IVF (and similarly have DS so nothing will be funded) but we are getting all the initial tests done and a referral

impatientmammy · 02/08/2019 13:58

@dragonmummy17 I had blood tests my other half was offered a sperm test but they won't work around him at all so by the time he got the letter he'd already missed his appointment. I was lead to believe we wouldn't be offered any further testing though so it felt like an unesacery stress. That was nearly a year ago now though so I might go back. What tests have you been offered? My periods still not arrived but a negative frer this morning so maybe I didn't ovulate x

impatientmammy · 03/08/2019 20:18

AF came today for me it often feels like a relief and a fresh start and this is one of those times as I feel like I've been waiting for it for so long x

dragonmummy17 · 04/08/2019 10:23

@impatientmammy story for AF although I totally get that feeling of fresh start. I've had blood tests and DH has had one SA done which came back as incomplete so he has to have it redone. We are being referred now to the fertility clinic although we cant get to the next stage without DHs results. Definitely the referral is on the NHS but I don't know what happens after that

impatientmammy · 04/08/2019 11:10

@dragonmummy17 that's good to know as the initial consultation is over £100 here x

impatientmammy · 04/08/2019 11:11

It's really quiet on here lately. I attempted the August but but have found it overwhelming x

cupcakesandglitter · 04/08/2019 11:54

Hey ladies, just wanted to check in and see how you're doing - I can completely relate with actually wanting AF to turn up so I could start again... I hope you're all well xxxxx

impatientmammy · 04/08/2019 11:59

How's your cycle going @cupcakesandglitter ? X

cupcakesandglitter · 04/08/2019 13:36

I'm okay thankyou @impatientmammy I ovulated quite late so I'm quite early on, doc was scared of an ectopic because I had some spotting so have a scan tomorrow to check... how're you feeling today? X

Lilzpk · 04/08/2019 14:36

I can totally relate to the relief of af arriving after a certain point. Especially earlier in the year when my cycles were long. I was gutted this time at 10dpo though, I felt really positively that something different was going on with me, which is was but not what we were hoping for, this cycle will be a total unknown for me after such an unexpected short one. @impatientmammy we have thought about going abroad which is really the only viable option( money wise) for us if we go down the ivf route. Our fertility clinic partners with a couple of places abroad so in that sense we'd have a supportive doctor at home, but we want to give it more time before we commit to it. My bmi is 31 also which I really want to reduce to have the best odds of success and to a avoid the conversations around weight as an issue.
