Anyone else fresh off the pill!?

Hi ladies!
As my DH and i habe decided to TTC I took the last pill in my packet on 17th December and had my breakthrough bleed start on the 22nd and end on the 26th. Now the wait begins to see whether my cycle snaps back to normal and of course whether I concieve! I had been on microgynon for circa 3 years.

Is anyone else in a similar position and entering 2019 pill free!? I thought this would be a good place to track and share our experiences as they happen!

My cousin is giving birth any day now and my sister in law is due in June so hoping for some hand me downs to save a bit of money! 😂

Have you guys thought about finding out the baby’s gender when you do get pregnant? DH and I have decided we want a surprise when it’s born 😊

Arewethereyet19 · 02/01/2019 17:51

@laurenann1991 mine went pretty much back to normal straight away which I know is really lucky. I have had 2 periods when the app predicted so hoping it stays that way.

I would try not to worry, 2 years is a really good amount of time to try and conceive Smile

peaky297 · 02/01/2019 18:20

@pumpkinsmum18 I think I would find our the sex, simply because I don't.know if I could wait! Haha
I'm taking pre-natal vitamins, exercising and eating healthily... just have to hope that mother nature is kind now!

I would find out but more for practical reasons. My sister has all girls so really wouldn’t need much whereas if it was a boy would need to stock up haha

MiaMoo007 · 02/01/2019 18:42

I've always said I wouldn't find out the gender...DH wants to. I don't think I'll truly know how I will react until the time comes.

PumpkinsMum18 · 02/01/2019 18:47

@Miamoo I might change my mind nearer the time too!! DH wants a boy ‘to carry on the family’ and also so he can play Lego with him Hmm

PumpkinsMum18 · 02/01/2019 18:47

Family name**

thumper59 · 02/01/2019 19:17

@PumpkinsMum18 I'd have to find out the gender! I'm to impatient 😂

I'm hoping my periods will go back to normal. I wasn't ever really irregular before going on the pill from what I can remember, but they was fairly heavy Hmm

I'm also super exicted. One half of me is reasonable and trying not to be because who knows when/if it'll happen. The other half has already got nursery ideas pinned on Pinterest. Blush
I'm 23 for reference. And this will be our first child Grin

@miamoo007 I didn’t know Yasmin was a combined pill. I was out on it too because of acne so I’m praying my skin doesn’t get bad! I never actually connected Yasmin with weight gain but I’m hoping I drop weight now you’ve said this! I have been on the pill for 11 years, Yasmin for 8 of them years and in that time I’ve went from always being 8st to now at my heaviest 10 1/2 stone. Took my last pill on Xmas eve and so far good!

LanieM87 · 02/01/2019 20:52

Hi everyone, interesting reading all your stories! I’ve been on the pill for approx 13yrs, most recently I was taking the mini pill for around 3yrs.
I took my last pill at the end of November, had a withdrawl approx 2 weeks later, but since then nothing! Natural cycles tells me I’m on CD 38.
I was hoping to TTC in the next couple of months but that seems to be getting less and less likely! I really hope it doesn’t take months to get back into regular cycles!

PumpkinsMum18 · 02/01/2019 21:01

@thumper59 Oh I started making a nursery ideas Pinterest board months ago 😂

Arewethereyet19 · 02/01/2019 21:27

@LanieM87 I would try not to worry too much, it can take a bit longer for some.
You can still conceive it just means that initially it is harder to date the pregnancy but you can still ovulate before your period comes back.
Fingers crossed it will make an appearance soon. (I never thought I’d say that haha)

Hi All,
Hope you don’t mind me joining.
Me and my husband have finally decided we are ready for a baby. I have never really been broody and always felt too young to have children and there was never a ‘right time’, but turning 30 last year it was like a switch had flipped!
I came off the pill on 17th December, had the withdrawal bleed, like I normally would after a packet, on 20th December for a few days. Now waiting to see if I start to ovulate.
It’s funny I’ve spent 12 years consistently on the pill hoping not to get accidentally pregnant that I never thought to even ask what it was doing to my body and how it would affect me when we did decide the time was right!
Fingers crossed my cycle gets back to normal (whatever that was, 12 years ago!), just hoping we haven’t left it too late :(!
Love hearing everyone’s experiences on this thread, thanks for all the helpful tips!

Out of interest, how many of you had regular bleeds during your week break from the pill?

I always did and just assumed they were my normal period, but now after looking into it I'm not sure if they were or weren't.

It's hit me that for 10years+ I've been pumping myself with hormones with no really awareness of what it was doing to my body.

Gem1188 · 03/01/2019 08:16

@aimingfor2019 I was on the combined pill for 14 years and the mini pill for 2 (different years for the last 16). I haven't had any form of bleeding for 13 months and counting. I have taken a pill for 34 days now and still nothing.
Like you I am starting to wonder what I have done to my body Sad

Gem1188 · 03/01/2019 08:17

*not taken a pill
(Sorry)

MiaMoo007 · 03/01/2019 09:32

@aimingfor2019 this is my understanding - your "period" during your week break from the pill is technically not a real period. The way the pill works is it contains a hormone called progesterone. This is the hormone the body produces when an egg is fertilised. In simple terms it basically tells your body not to have a period. During your week break, you're not taking in progesterone which tells your uterus that it can release the lining - your period.

When you come off the pill, you're body needs to get back to normal. I guess with any hormone supplement it can take any period of time for your body to recalibrate.

What I have read though is that just because you haven't had a bleed since your withdrawal bleed it doesn't necessarily mean you're not ovulating. Also remember everyone's cycle is different. 34 days isn't that long. Try not to stress Flowers

Gooseygoosey12345 · 03/01/2019 09:45

This was me 2 years ago. I was on the pill for years, took my last pill of the packet in September, never had a period and conceived at the end of October. Just a bit of hope for everyone trying that for some people it does happen straight away.

LanieM87 · 03/01/2019 09:50

@arewethereyet19 - I know! I never thought I’d be wishing my period on! For 2 years on the mini pill I loved not having them but like you @gem1188 I had no idea what the consequences would really be! It sounds like we stopped taking the pill at the same time!

PumpkinsMum18 · 03/01/2019 13:20

@Gooseygoosey12345 that’s good to know! Seems like each woman’s experience can be very different

PumpkinsMum18 · 03/01/2019 13:46

If you look it up, the inventors of the pill decided the pescribe the drug with a break/bleed week to satisfy the Catholic Church and the Pope.....

I’m serious - google it!

Gem1188 · 03/01/2019 16:10

@pumkinsMum18

I never knew that! It made for an interesting read 😊

aimingfor2019 · 03/01/2019 17:26

@MiaMoo007 thanks!

@Gooseygoosey12345 such a relief to know, now just to wait and cross my fingers!

peachypetite · 03/01/2019 23:02

Hi all is anyone else finding that the folic acid is causing stomach issues? I had diarrhoea when I first took it and now bloating.

LanieM87 · 04/01/2019 00:14

@peachypetite I’ve not had any issues! Are you taking it with a meal?
