waiting to TTC January- anyone else?

Hi everyone!I thought I would see if anyone else is in the same boat as me!

I am currently on my last pill packet, with the view to use condoms until January (planning in some time for my cycles to settle, though no idea how long that will actually take!)

We are going to 'see what happens' in January, as I don't want to start out too obsessed (though that is likely to escalate!), then if nothing happens within a few months we could start tracking.

I want to sort my diet/ exercise regime out before January really as I have been quite lazy recently! I have been taking folic acid and vit d for about a month now as I read that it is good to build up the supply in your eggs or something? This could be total rubbish though..

Is anyone else waiting until the New Year to TTC? What are your plans re tracking etc.? I am a bit clueless as about that!

Yeh there’s never a perfect time. I just don’t want to wait anymore, there will always be a reason to wait if you look for one.

I know I’m ovulating in the next couple of days had it’s so tempting to go ‘ah fuck it!’ But I think I’ll order some lovely unpasteurised cheese instead to keep me going

Shefliesonherownwings · 24/10/2018 13:17

Is anyone considering a flu jab this winter? I get a free voucher for a jab with my work, I've never had the flu jab before but am wondering if I should get one in case we get really lucky and get a BFP in January or February and then i'm covered. What do others think?

mama1DC · 24/10/2018 15:04

@becca3210 I hate cheese 😂 with DD we bought everything and so much expensive crap! DH said I can't have what I want this time as long as we don't buy anything till at least 30 weeks!, I won't be getting loads though it just goes to the charity shop in the end and it's a waste !

mama1DC · 24/10/2018 15:05

@Shefliesonherownwings when I got pregnant with DD (jan 2016) they booked me in for a flu jab but I'd already had one because of work (nhs) so I think I might get one next month as will probably have to get one anyway (or be advised to)

mama1DC · 24/10/2018 15:08

I also know I will more than likely be induced due to GD! So need to wait those extra 2 weeks😂

With DD I think I conceived New Years eve but hospital told me mid December (not possible as I had AF those dates) she was due 16th September, so ladies anytime after Christmas Day should be fine 🤪

sw2102 · 24/10/2018 15:19

Yes I still dont understand how my DDs conception date was supposedly 10th Dec (AF). Due date was the 18th Sept. Actually came a week late in the end too. Waiting in theory/ideally till Jan for DC2 but maybe not... we shall see! interesting reading everyones reasons..mine has a lot to do with school too as I am a teacher..telling myself that if it was to happen sooner or baby was early that every thing would be fine though!

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 24/10/2018 17:15

Hello all, please can I join? We will be TTC #2 end of December/January. We have a little boy who will turn 2 next month. I will be having an ELCS after a EMCS if all goes to plan. I will be on 5mg of folic acid once we start trying (prescription) then baby aspirin if all is well from 12 weeks.

Like a few of you I need to get my diet and general health into better check in the next month or so. I lost all my baby weight then promptly put just over a stone on earlier this year

mama1DC · 24/10/2018 21:28

@sw2102 that's the same for me I was due 16th has AF 14th December apparently when I conceived ! Really confused me and DH

sw2102 · 24/10/2018 21:45

Yep we were quite suprised?! I mentioned it but they just said the scans are so accurate that it couldnt really be wrong! Could at the earliest have been the first day post AF but that is still a few days out and would have been at a very strange point in cycle to have conceived.. guess we will never know! I had been using ovulation tests as well but never got a positive result. Hoping for a more chilled approach to hopefully conceiving DC2 as I definitely stressed myself out a bit worrying about it not happening and stuff the first time around!

Shefliesonherownwings · 24/10/2018 21:48

Can i ask why some want to avoid a summer baby? Genuine question, I am interested in the reasons. We're going to be ttc#1, DH and I both 35. We just moved in the summer and are having loads of work done to the house but this should be done by the end of year which is why we're waiting. Plus hubbys sister is getting married just after Christmas so want to enjoy that!

mama1DC · 24/10/2018 23:14

@Shefliesonherownwings baby's born in summer start school after there 4th birthday, anything after September start and then turn 5th quickly after, it can make a huge difference.... for me though I want my DD to be 3 before baby arrives. My friend had a DD in August there is almost exactly 2 years between our DC but only 1 school year between them...

craftymum01 · 24/10/2018 23:25

Can I join? My dh and I are waiting until after Xmas the ttc our second. We have had a couple of bad losses this year and I had an appointment yesterday where they said there is no medical reason why we can’t try again. Want a Christmas with Brie and alcohol first though 😊

becca3210 · 25/10/2018 08:07

@shefliesonherownwings the whole 'Are summer borns disadvantaged at school' is quite a controversial topic I think. I work as an infant teacher and you can normally spot the summer borns as they seem younger - boys can find it harder particularly as schooling becomes more formal. Of course though not all summer born children do find it harder and many catch up/go on to achieve well. A plus is that they get to have a lovely sunny birthday away from school and assume for parents of summer borns childcare is cheaper as they can go to school earlier. I think I will still be TTC from December as will probably take a few months and if is does happen straight away/baby comes earlier and ends up being a summer born will probably just be over the moon that it has safely arrived :)

ladybranstonpickle · 25/10/2018 14:35

Hello, may I join too?

I am turning 38 in November (!) and got married last December. We decided to wait to TTC for a year while I started a new job and we settled into married life. So the plan is to remove my Nuvaring in mid-Dec after we get back from holidays and TTC starting January.

My company has just revamped its maternity leave policy to 5 months full pay - from SMP - so that's good news. Just to need to make sure I am in the qualifying period.

I have been lurking for a little bit and really looking forward to joining in the chat smile

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 26/10/2018 09:44

Well I wobbled a bit this week and had a day of ‘maybe we should wait a bit longer’ till we had a condom slip when I’m ovulating and realised this really is the right time. Hopefully I’m not pregnant just now as that would be a bit of a pain, but I now know we’d both be really happy if I were and that fills me with a lot more confidence.

coconutlatte44 · 26/10/2018 13:49

Hi everyone, new poster here

Waiting until after Christmas - have been broody for a while but my husband and I decided to make the most of this year before starting to try.

Reason for waiting these last couple of months is that I'm also a teacher and should we be lucky enough to conceive quickly, I would prefer for mat leave not to overlap with my summer holidays! Once we start trying we won't worry about the dates after that - whatever happens happens. :) I am 32 and husband is 33.

Excited that it's finally almost here. Good luck to everyone!

boodles101 · 27/10/2018 07:03

Can I join you guys? I'll be TTC #2 from December. Going to come off the pill at the end of this packet and hopefully period returns to normal over November. I've been broody all year but my DH wasn't ready for another. Main reasons for waiting til Dec now are to avoid August born baby and it would help us out more financially as DS would be closer to getting 30 hours childcare free. I'm finding it quite a struggle with the wait - seeing as I actually wanted to start ttc ages ago. I'm telling myself that just another month or 2 to wait is nothing but the impatience keeps creeping in. My heart (or ovaries) says sod it lets just try now but my head says just wait a bit longer.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 27/10/2018 09:50

Welcome! If you want to avoid August baby wouldn’t it be better to wait till January? Assuming baby can come two weeks before or after due date?

boodles101 · 27/10/2018 10:36

Yes it would make sense but I've worked out some dates and i wouldn't be ttc til the end of December anyway. That's obviously assuming if my period returns to normal straight away! My first was overdue and I know that doesn't mean 2nd baby would be the same but telling myself December is helping to keep my impatience at bay! It might not work out to that anyway so will just play it by ear once we get to then! A baby is still a baby at the end of the day so I'm won't exactly be too disappointed if it arrived early.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 27/10/2018 10:48

Yeh there’s really only so much control we can ever have! Life is what happens when we’re making other plans and all that.

Has anyone got any plans for getting baby making healthy? We’re starting the vitamins today but I really want to try and lose a stone and get exercising at least 3 times a week, especially lots of lower body stuff to help my poor pelvic floor muscles!

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 27/10/2018 12:05

@IsTheRainEverComingBack yes, I will need to be on 5mg of folic acid so when I go for my super exciting smear test in November I will book in to get a prescription for that. Like you I would like to shift a stone however I've said that for six months now and have lost the grand total of 2 pounds, ooops!!

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 27/10/2018 12:53

Oh dear! I lost 5lbs but then this week has gone a bit wrong and a daren’t weigh myself. I’ve signed back up for the gym though and feeling motivated to get in there, I’m better with a clear goal in mind.

What reason do you need 5mg for? I had a look and I don’t think I need the increased amount, but will be mentioning TTC to the doctor in a couple of weeks as I’m asthmatic (mildly) and have pelvic floor issues.

DoYouLikeHueyLewisandTheNews · 27/10/2018 13:51

@IsTheRainEverComingBack that's really good, well done! I need to get back into running as I find I end up eating better as well. Good idea to have a dr appointment before TTC. Will this be your first? I have one child who is 2 next month. My asthma didn't require any additional monitoring but definitely worth investigating as everyone's different.

I will need 5mg folic acid as I had placental abruption with my first during labour. Will also be on baby aspirin after 12 weeks.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 27/10/2018 14:25

Yes it’ll be my first. Probably won’t need any monitoring but as I’m going for something else (the pelvic floor) I thought I’d mention as there’s context.

becca3210 · 28/10/2018 18:46

Can totally relate to the heart versus head thinking/wanting different things! We were tempted the other night to ‘have a try’ after a friend’s wedding but glad now that we didn’t! Husband not keen on vitamins but just ordered a load of nuts/seeds other zinc filled things! I am also going to try and do some more exercise try and watch my diet etc though with birthday and Christmas coming won’t keep on the straight and narrow all the time! Grin
