New thread ladies! @PastaSauceHoarder @Goostacean @Barker26 @crazychemist @DoveGreylove @springsummerautumnwinter can't remember who else to tag.

I know @cupcakesandglitter has linked us to a new thread but I'm not sure I am strong enough to be surrounded by those TTC already!

dotty and pasta, we're getting there with the wedding organisation but there's still quite a lot to do. I live in France and my French is good but I still find it really daunting calling up wedding dress shops and florists and hairdressers in French and trying to sort things out when I don't really have a clue what I'm doing so I put it off and then get stressed because it's getting late and I haven't done it yet! And I'm busy with a really big project at work at the moment and I've just found out I have to go on a transatlantic business trip next week so I've had to rearrange several wedding related appointments. I just can't wait until it's our wedding day, this project is over, I'll be off work for a few weeks, and what's done is done and what isn't done isn't done so there's no point stressing about it... If you get what I mean!

And then once we get back we'll be looking for a bigger apartment. I really hope that by Christmas we've found something and then we can just relax, drink all the wine, eat all the cheese and start TTC!

Being pregnant would also be a really good excuse for not being sent on last minute business trips.

dottydally · 05/09/2018 07:21

@EthelThePiratesDaughter you've plenty of time yet! What colour scheme are you going for?

I'm feel nosey now.. but I assume you are not originally from France? How long have you been there to be able to speak French so well? I have a friend that can speak English and Spanish equally and I find it amazing to listen to her! She just flicks between the two like it's nothing and then there's me desperately trying to remember a few basic phrases from my high school Spanish Blush

Do you do many business trips? I'm going away later this year and I'm in a massive sulk about the impact it'll have on ttc. Made worse by the fact it's a zika zone and I'll have to wait 2 cycles when I get back not at all bitter.

OP posts:
EthelThePiratesDaughter · 05/09/2018 08:02

I've been here just over a year but my OH and I did years of long distance before that, so I've spent a lot of time here.

I find it absolutely fine socially, and 95% fine professionally, but it's when I have to deal with non-everyday situations (like wedding planning) in French that its stressful, because its vocabulary I wouldn't normally use.

After the wedding it'll be apartment buying vocabulary and medical stuff - I'm healthy so have managed to avoid doctors thus far but once we're TTC I'll need to find a doctor to get my coil removed and then no doubt discuss all kinds of weird stuff in French!

Colour scheme for the wedding is raspberry pink!

I've been wondering about zika too. It seems to be everywhere. We wanted to go somewhere exotic for our honeymoon but perhaps ten days in Greece or Spain or Italy is more what we need at this point in time!

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 05/09/2018 08:03

Also it must be frustrating not being able to refuse to go to a zika area for work because you can't tell your boss you're TTC. What do you do if you're already pregnant but haven't told them yet?

dottydally · 05/09/2018 09:21

@EthelThePiratesDaughter wow only a year! You've picked it up quickly. Good luck with the apartment and doctors vocabulary. I think it would freak me out too!

Raspberry pink sounds amazing. Are you wearing white?

Re zika. We are in the same boat on holidays. We love the long haul/tropical destinations and do them every year but now I am having to look closer to home. I'm worried that in itself will arouse suspicion as to our intentions!

I think if I was pregnant i would just have to tell work. It would be a case of telling those who needed to know but it being strictly confidential. These things have a way of getting out, though, and I feel like it would ruin the excitement/surprise for me. I'm really looking forward to keeping that little secret for the first 12 weeks or so! I may have to keep it longer as our family is very spread out (with some overseas - not far though) and I would want to tell them (in person if I can) before work. That said, I have no idea how big I might get so I might have to tell people at 12 weeks before they guess. I don't think I want anyone other than my parents to know before 12 weeks though.

OP posts:
EthelThePiratesDaughter · 05/09/2018 09:32

My French was already fluent for social situations before I moved so I was starting from a high level, but picking up all the professional vocabulary and for non-everyday situations has been challenging. I still feel very frustrated and like I struggle to communicate a lot of the time but I must have improved a lot in the last year. It just doesn't feel like I have because I don't notice the changes myself. (Always nice when someone else says I've improved though!)

I don't think travelling to different holiday destinations would arouse suspicion, honestly. I think zika virus is something that only people TTC tend to think about. It's when you have to stop drinking alcohol and eating certain food that people know what you're up to.

Blueberry001 · 05/09/2018 11:51

Hi Lovely Ladies,

Can I join? 👋🏻

I stopped taking my pill on Saturday (1st Sept) and currently on my withdrawal bleed, hubby and I have decided to use natural cycles for a few months whilst everything goes back to normal. We were going to just go for it, but I think we’ve decided to wait until the new year to properly start TTC! (eeek).

We’re going to wait just to have a last Christmas together as ‘us’ and it would be impossible to hide it from my family, but we also have a huge risk of MC in our family history so I also wouldn’t want to say anything until we were in the safe zone, and it gives us a little bit of time to consider getting our house back on the market and moving and all that.

We had sold it last year (twice!) but both sales fell through on the last hurdle and I was so disheartened I took it off the market. I mean it wouldn’t be the worst thing if we had a baby in this house, we have 2 bedrooms, it’s just not in the best area and we don’t have a garden/storage so I would prefer a bit more room!

Our stats are;

Me: 31
DH: 35
TTC: 1st
Waiting until January!

Hope everyone is well today! I’m currently finally having a day off work, and a sit down with a brew after blitzing the house work and washing! Xxx

dottydally · 05/09/2018 13:34

@EthelThePiratesDaughter that makes sense! If you can work etc. I'm sure it's good. Much better than ours would be.

Perhaps not. I don't drink much anyway and I don't think my eating habits would really change so hopefully I am good on that front.

Welcome @Blueberry001

Of course you may join us. Have you been using NC before now? It's taken me a while to get the hang of it and I got a lot of red days at the start. I was using it as I thought we'd start NTNP from the new year and then properly ttc from June, but recent events have shown me life is too short so we are going to ttc as soon as we can. I am still temping - hoping it might help when we do ttc!

Christmas sounds like a good plan. Why is the MC risk so high? If you don't mind me asking.

Jealous of your day off!

Hi everyone -
For some reason mumsnet have stopped emailing me so I haven't been getting notifications of posts!
I have started ovulation strips- does this look like the start of a line or am I too hopeful?!

@dottydally I think Hubby will find out when I have my next appointment with gynaecologist.

My ovulation strips usually look like that a week-ish before a get a positive, @Pinkroseuk. The few days before it gets darker and darker and then I get that lovely bold line! Not sure if its the same for everyone, but it might be worth keeping your eye on. Smile

Hi there, @Blueberry001! Hope you had a lovely day off. Smile

I had a wonderful thought yesterday; this time next month, I'll be TTC next month! I'm so excited!! ❤

Blueberry001 · 06/09/2018 21:01

Hi @Dotty!

I’ve just started using the app from Saturday, not quite sure of my way around it yet but I’m sure I’ll figure it out as I go. Although having to remember to take my temp at the same time is a challenge!

Well there is no medical reason, but for some reason my family have always sadly suffered, my Mum had 4 MC and a stillborn before me, my aunties suffered as did my grandma. I think maybe just bad luck rather than a condition but even so it makes me very nervous.

We were talking tonight about booking a little holiday in early Jan/mid Jan so we can have a last ‘no baby’, still have a few wines and eat what we want time away! There’s some good deals to the Canary Islands at the moment so I’m hoping I can convince him, as that would be a lovely last hurrah as the two of us hopefully!

@pasta, hello!

How is everyone today? Nearly the weekend! Any plans for anyone? I’m off to see my in laws, they are about 2 hours away so we don’t go too often but it’ll be lovely to see my nephew xxx

dottydally · 07/09/2018 07:27

@Pinkroseuk good luck!

@PastaSauceHoarder such an exciting thought! Very jealous but happy for you, of course.

@Blueberry001 I struggle with remembering to take it early enough. Im quite often 'awake' half an hour before my alarm god knows why as my alarm goes off stupidly early and I doze. But I think I should be taking my temperature as soon as I wake rather than when my alarm actually goes off. It's trial and error but my graph this month looks pretty good and is tying in with the other symptoms I have noticed. I had no idea before all this that there were so many things you could track.

Oh no that's awful. It's hard that there is no reason for it as well. We've got everything crossed that you will be okay!

A last holiday sounds like a lovely idea. My DP wants to go skiing in January though so not the relaxing holiday you've got in mind! I'll take a little convincing yet but I agree with the idea of having time just the two of you. Would you start ttc in February after your holiday? I think that's when we will start (all being well) as I should be free from zika worries by then.

The weekend here is expected to be nice weather so we might head out for the day. I keep saying I want to go ice skating but in reality I think I'm pining for winter. Other than that we will just be lazy. A few busy weeks coming up so taking the chance to relax while we can.

Hi Guys,

I've been stalking these forums for a bit but I've only just found this thread and am wondering if it suits me best.

basically I'm 30, 2 years married and desperate for a baby. However we are flying to Mexico a week on Monday for a dream holiday - thought I'd only have to wait 8 weeks to TTC and was devastated to find out it was 6 months :(. (bloody zika)

April is well and truly circled in my diary! Is this the right place to chat?

Im trying to use the next 6 months as a positive to save some money, loose some weight and work on my mental health (I am just about to start CBT after accepting help for anxiety and low self esteem.) The self esteem issue has caused pretty bad low moods and has made my sex life none existent.

Would really appreciate somewhere to chat, I dont really have anyone to talk to!

PastaSauceHoarder · 07/09/2018 19:07

Hi there, McHelenz! It sounds as if this is the thread might suit you well. I'm sorry to hear that you're having to wait longer than expected due to zika, how disappointing. ☹ It sounds like you've been going through a lot, this thread is a good place to unload if you need to. Flowers

I know what you mean about pining for winter, @dottydally! I am SO DONE with warm weather. Its been pretty cold here today which has been nice. Smile
Ice skating sounds great though!

Well my weekend should be eventful. Its my soon-to-be sister-in-laws hen do tomorrow night, and a couple of months ago her head bridesmaid told everyone to pay a certain amount for a ticket to a show. Well naive little me thought 'ooh lovely, I love a good show' and scraped up the money.
Turns out its a bloody male stripper show isn't it. Blush
I am the absolute last person to go somewhere like that, I'm such a little human mouse. I've never been on a hen do before so its all new territory!

McHelenz · 07/09/2018 19:35

Thank you :)

Its disappointing about the wait but I'm just trying to believe that this will be the last big holiday we will have together so need to enjoy it!

Oh no! I've never seen a stripper either, I dont really know how I'd cope haha. I think I'd just have to have a couple...I've found hen parties can be hit and miss, depending whose planned it!!!

PastaSauceHoarder · 07/09/2018 19:57

@McHelenz oh yes definitely! I've not been to Mexico but I've heard great things. Smile How long are you going for?

I've not met 90% of the girls I'm going out with tomorrow night so I'm not sure how its going to go. An older and far more experienced lady I work with told me that I mustn't shy away from the strippers otherwise I might get picked on by them. Blush

McHelenz · 07/09/2018 20:06

Oh god! Maybe go to the loo at that point. But I'd assume they'll target the bride!!

I'm going for 2 weeks. Really excited 😊. It's been booked for 18 months!

PastaSauceHoarder · 07/09/2018 20:33

I might have to! I guess I'll just have to see what tomorrow night brings. 😂

Wow so you've certainly been waiting for this holiday! Two weeks there sounds amazing, are you all inclusive as well? I bet it felt bloody ages away when you first booked it haha.

McHelenz · 07/09/2018 22:06

It did, it was like booking our wedding all over again haha.

2 weeks all inclusive 😊. It's for my 30th!

Hi guys thought I'd join in here as the wait is killing me!!

Pinkroseuk · 08/09/2018 07:50

Thanks @PastaSauceHoarder and @dottydally
Lovely to see so many new people joining the thread :)

Hope all goes well tonight @PastaSauceHoarder - it wouldn't be my sort of thing either!!

We're off up to Edinburgh this morning (well it will probably take all day actually!) for a weeks camping - got all the tent in the car just trying to pack up clothes and food! I always seem to pack too much!

Barker26 · 08/09/2018 14:39

Hi all sorry for being AWOL! Been settling my two bunnies in.... grins
Just going to catch up on the thread hope everyone is well! X

When TTC: new year (2019)

I've just removed the Mirena coil of 5 years a few weeks ago and we want to start trying as of next year - don't have a concrete start as we will see how we feel once Christmas is out of the way. We are in the same boat as others; want to do that final trip as just us (thinking about road trip west coast USA) I'm relieved to see your stories of similar goings on and gain more insight!

McHelenz · 08/09/2018 20:17

We did the west coast tour 4 years ago. It was so good!

dottydally · 09/09/2018 09:10

Welcome @McHelenz @bubblegumunicorn & @Nesscous

@McHelenz zika is rubbish! I have extended our wait by 2 months because I'm travelling to a zika zone Sad you'll have a wonderful time in Mexico though.

@PastaSauceHoarder I can ice skate well as I used to compete when I was little, but that was a number of years ago. I forget I'm not as good now and got a bit cocky and fell over. Very bruised bum!!

How was the hen do? I've only seen a stripper once but as others said he focussed on the bride to be so I was safe!

@Barker26 you got bunnies???? So so cute! How are things in the barker house? (I can't remember how long you've got to wait).

I had been doing so well. But it's pouring here and that woke me at 5am so I've been browsing baby clothes for the last 4 hours Blush
