Anyone else waiting to TTC?

I thought we could keep each other company while we wait!

Your age/DH age: 29/39
Baby #: This will be #2
When are you TTC: I think we should start in June when DS is 2 but we are so broody it might be sooner
Why are you waiting: We are doing some house renovations at the moment & sorting out some stuff financially. Everything seems a bit up in the air & I can only stress about a couple of things at a time. I'm looking forward to life settling down only to have a newborn mess it all up again Grin
What are you doing to keep busy?: I'm project managing house renovations & enjoying one-on-one time with DS before he (hopefully) becomes a big brother. DH & I are having a huge joint birthday party in September for my 30th & his 40th so I'm enjoying planning that!

@NoseringGirl it must be so difficult and frustrating to have to monitor your diet and sugar intake so much so all credit to you for managing it at all. I think it’s fair to let yourself off it over Easter though Grin

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever my poor dp has been getting it in the neck a bit for winding me up by not engaging in talking about ttc. But now we’re back on opposite shifts, all frustration and annoyances are forgotten and I just miss him... now noones here to listen to me whinge!

@FlapJackered unfortunately I don’t know enough about thyroid levels to be of any use, sorry. When were you planning on ttc? Hopefully the GP can either reassure you or act quickly to rectify the issue. Two weeks must feel like an awfully long time to wait for answers to such an important issue. So don’t be sorry for ranting and do so as much as you like. I think this is what this chat is here for - all these issues that mean so much that we want to keep secret from the rest of the world.

NoseringGirl · 06/04/2018 18:53

@Getmeamagiclamp it's even worse in pregnancy. I've had gestational diabetes in both pregnancies (very common in women with PCOS). It was diagnosed at 13 weeks last time so I had 26 weeks of testing my blood 4 times a day and be super careful about what I ate. It's all worth it, that's what I keep telling myself anyway Grin

Jelliestogether · 06/04/2018 20:59

@flapjackered fingers crossed your GP will look into it and monitor it/refer you. If they are useless just request another one as that result is so borderline! That's how I've managed to get repeat bloods done before with my GP. Fingers crossed for you

HidCat · 06/04/2018 21:16

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever my DH drives me nuts at some point nearly every day but I figure that would be the case with anyone I spend so much time with lol.

@FlapJackered my cousin has hypothyroidism and has had 2 successful pregnancies and is currently pregnant with twins. No major issues with any. I think the key is having it under control so getting the GP onside is definitely a good idea.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 07/04/2018 17:44

Glad it’s not just me that’s on edge with DP.
That’s being said, we had sex without protection yesterday. Blush I’m on natural cycles and yesterday was a red day. Haven’t ovulated yet and had a negative LH test so I’m hoping everything is all okay and that I won’t end up walking down the aisle 7 months gone.
So frustrated at myself!

FlapJackered · 08/04/2018 15:00

Thanks all for the kind words. I am going to ring the docs every day and try and get a cancellation appointment sooner. @HidCat - that is reassuring to know, thanks.

@NoseringGirl that sounds tough. I will be joining you on the low GI diet too, apparently that can help with the thyroid thing.

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever - Same with me - I seem to be lacking will power massively on that front!

ParmaVioletz · 08/04/2018 17:28

My age/DH age: 26/27
Baby: #1
Starting to TTC: Pencilled in for summer 2019.
Why are we waiting?: Finishing repaying a loan (ends April 2019). Both of us are learning to drive. A full bathroom renovation is also needed, planned for mid-2019.
What are we doing to keep busy?: That's what I need help with!

Good afternoon! Lovely to meet you all. Smile

I'm so glad to have found this thread - I'm driving myself nuts with broodiness this weekend. Blush

My husband and I have been together since we were 14/15 years old and for years now we've felt emotionally ready for children. However we've agreed that our bathroom needs re-doing before we even consider starting our family; it's the only bathroom in the house and it's in need of some serious TLC.

Alongside this, we also want to get the expenses of an outstanding loan and both of us learning to drive out the way.

It's feeling like the longest wait, but we know it will be worth it in the end.

So can anybody recommend things we could do to keep ourselves busy in the meantime? I'm in need of something that still feels like we're working towards TTC without actually TTC for now...

Pinkroseuk · 09/04/2018 19:31

I have just started my second round or provera - starting to feel like this will never happen- keep occupying myself by looking online for baby bits but don't want to lead myself astray when it could be another couple of years before the tablets work-
Anyone got any ideas of things to take your mind off the situation?!
We moved house last year so I'm currently designing our garden but the weather has been so awful I haven't really been able to get on with it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

BusyBee27 · 09/04/2018 22:42

Sorry folks, I’ve lost track of what’s been going on a bit, but scrolling through, I can see that lots of us are struggling with the wait ... same here, although DH and I have spent the last week and a bit painting our study and will soon be moving on to another room! Maybe some of you ladies can keep yourselves busy by getting your diy on too?!

Oh and to the person that said their DP was getting on their nerves now that they’ve stopped taking the pill: I think that’s completely normal, as I couldn’t stand my DH for a while after I came off mine a few years ago Blush Needless to say, that passed and I adore him again now Wink

RandomUsernameHere · 10/04/2018 06:50

Completely agree BusyBee, DIY definitely takes your mind off TTC! I've been doing loads since we moved and TTC went right to the back of my mind (although we're away at the moment so started obsessing again).

Welcome @ParmaVioletz !

FlapJackered · 10/04/2018 12:49

Welcome @ParmaVioletz

@Pinkroseuk no suggestions I am afraid, apart from throwing yourself into a project/work. I am the worst for baby procrastination! I have made a filofax of pregnancy tips and what to buy/good books/birth plan and general info. Very sad and over obsessed, but I will be super prepared when the time comes! Grin

HidCat · 10/04/2018 13:07

@FlapJackered I instantly thought of Monica from Friends when reading your last post lol

BusyBee27 · 10/04/2018 14:45

@FlapJackered wow, can I have a copy?! Wink I’m going to tell DH about that, he didn’t think there was anyone else out there who liked to plan ahead and organise as much as I do! Grin

ShortandStout1 · 10/04/2018 15:12

my/DH age 24/25
TTC baby #1
Waiting until May.
reasons for waiting - I finish my degree end of May so didn't want to be dealing with morning sickness why studying also came off the depo last May so wanted to give my body chance to sort itself out before we started TTC.

ParmaVioletz · 10/04/2018 17:57

Thank you for the welcomes! Smile

It sounds like a lot of us are trying to distract ourselves at the moment. Hopefully we can help to distract and encourage each other!

@BusyBee27 DIY isn't a bad idea! We'll need to clear out the second bedroom anyway, so may as well get started now. Just got to move DH's computer out of there, which he'll be chuffed about. Grin

@FlapJackered you sound a lot like me - I love a good bit of over-preparation and list-making! What sort of ideas have you gotten together so far? And I'll second BusyBee27 in requesting a copy! Wink

Hope everyone is having a good week so far!

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 10/04/2018 21:25

I’m keeping busy by wedding planning. We’ve got an idea to do our table numbers along with childhood photos of ourselves at that age.
Going through both DP’s and my baby photos has really made me excited to see what our children will look like.

Pinkroseuk · 10/04/2018 22:01

Thanks @FlapJackered I think I might try and keep a book of useful info - at least will help to keep a track of research I have done!

We moved house last year and still have the kitchen and dining room to redecorate so will try to focus on those! Thanks everyone :)

BusyBee27 · 10/04/2018 23:00

Glad the diy idea was helpful - it really does take up all of your concentration, so will hopefully be a good distraction for us all Grin

@ParmaVioletz: exactly what I did ... persuaded DH to get rid of the computer and painted the “study” a nice neutral yellow, just in case it might be needed for someone, I mean something!, else in the future Wink

@Assume: how exciting, I loved wedding planning! Do you guys have a theme or a colour scheme?

NoseringGirl · 10/04/2018 23:43

Home renovations have been our focus too. It really is a good one! I know some people like to start with a more relaxed approach when TTC so this may not be for everyone, but I've been focusing on really getting to know my cycles again and doing lots of tracking. I really enjoy all the science behind it all! It helps me feel more control before TTC.

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 11/04/2018 08:28

BusyBee Me too! We've still got 7 months to go but everything is planned now. Bridesmaids are a dark, grape purple. Centrepiece flowers are a mixture of purple tones. Everything else, table linen, chair covers etc is white. Cannot wait! It's definitely helping the wait to TTC go by that little bit quicker!

Nosering I've recently started Natural Cycles and I love getting to know my cycle too! Haven't ovulated yet though. According to the App it can take up to a year to get your rhythm back and the NHS website say 1-3 months to ovulate again.

FlapJackered · 11/04/2018 09:39

Haha! I AM Monica from friends! Blush
I have noted down everything from rubbing Almond oil on bump daily etc to stop stretch marks and taking Vit E supplements - to nappy rash cream - to eating dates in last month of pregnancy for an easy labour/birth!
Yes you can tell your DH at least there is definitely someone more organised obsessed out there! Ha!
It will be sods law that this Thyroid thing means I will become a childless crazy old cat lady with a massive file on pregnancy and parenting! Wine

FlapJackered · 11/04/2018 09:44

@AssumeItWasSomethingClever I am using Natural cycles, although finding it a tad depressing this month as no sign of ovulation and my temp chart seems to be doing the opposite of what it is supposed to do!
-The wedding sounds amazing - impressed you have got it all sorted already.

Jelliestogether · 11/04/2018 10:24

House renovations here def keeping me distracted too. Just starting the kitchen which will keep us busy in the mean time! I've been using flo app but I don't temp. although this cycle is over 2 weeks late 🙄

AssumeItWasSomethingClever · 11/04/2018 14:41

FlapJackered Mine is as well! I've had a peak about 10 days before I should have and my graph is constantly up and down. No idea what's going on. Glad it's not just me though!

TheOneWithTheBaby · 11/04/2018 16:02

I love reading about all your projects! The wedding sounds beautiful, love the picture idea.

We're just back from holiday today. DH will have the Zika test in a few weeks and we are waiting for my gyno referral. Once the Zika test comes back we could start in two months.
The holiday was amazing. Adult only AI and such an adventure. I would love some more holidays like that but I want a baby as well. I thought this last bigholiday would help us be ready but I think it actually made us feel like more travelling? Confusing!
