Ladies, the old thread has now closed so I created a new one but can't post the link, hopefully you'll find it and we can continue.

I'm so tempted but scared. Thinking what if the dye is still in the tubes and will mix with the egg or the sperm and somehow affect the baby. Stupid thoughts I know. I have found online an American ob-gyn saying you can ttc the same month because there's little to no risk to the fetus. Also on the leaflet I was sent from the hospital it only mentions not to have sex prior to the HyCoSy. If there were negative effects I imagine they'd mention to abstain altogether through the whole cycle.

Afternoon hope you are all enjoying the weekend! Does anyone here temp? Could you give me any advice about getting started and what I need to buy. Any recommendations? I've always been adamant I wouldn't do it but I'm getting to the point where I need to try everything. I'm never completely sure when I ovulate. I have symptoms for about a week on and off so it's all guess work. Do you do it all month or just around ovulation? How many hours do you need to be in bed for? I normally always have to go for a wee about 4ish and then get up about 7. Would this work?

Cleozeta · 25/03/2018 15:30

Hiya, you just need a BBT thermomitor, they are quite cheap. I use fertility friend on my mobile phone to record temps. They say you should do it after 4 hours sleep but I don't think it really matters to much as long as you have just woken up, so 3 hours should be fine. You'll need to take temp as soon as you wake up at around the same time everyday. I started doing it everyday but during af tends to be quite erratic so you won't get much info from that, so I dont bother doing it then. I also dont bother for the 2nd week after ov either as you have all the info you need by then, and it can be quite stressful as its easy to try and annalyse too much!
Generally I find temping really useful to pinpoint ovulation but also quite stressful if things do not go as expected!

KeepingTheFaith9 · 25/03/2018 17:47

Good query Jo Jo - I too have considered this route... although likely it might stress me out! Cleo can I ask - do you really have to do it lying down or can you get up and go next door to the loo and do it? Thanks! x

Cleozeta · 25/03/2018 19:12

Have to do it lying down annoyingly! Needs to be done as soon as you waje and before you move to be acurate.

Random question - does anyone else get stabbing pains in their boobs before af? Wondering if it is an age thing, a normal thing or another annoying perimenopause symptom

JoJoyorker · 25/03/2018 19:40

Yes I can see me stressing and analysing it but I feel at this point I really should give it a go! I think I will get one ordered ready to start on day 1. So it shows you when you've ovulated so would you DTD on that day when the temp changes?
I don't get any boob twinges or pains these days. I used to suffer terribly when I was younger but nothing now which concerns me, maybe my hormones are too low.

Cleozeta · 25/03/2018 20:32

You won't know ov has happened through temping until the boat has sailed, so it is really useful alongside opk's. So dtd when opk says go, and temps will confirm ov has happened after a big temp rise has been sustained for 3 days. But afterwards you will know the exact day it happened, which is always the day before the spike. I normally get a dip before the spike but not everyone does. FF is really useful as you have your chart with temp data but you can also add other info like cm changes and opk results. FF will then put up really satisfying crosshairs when ov is confirmed

Alibaba2 · 25/03/2018 21:20

Here’s a conundrum for you...

Last cycle I ov’d early on cd8 so I was hoping this cycle it would be later, especially as I was still spotting on cd5. Today is cd8. This morning I had the chance to dtd (first time this cycle) but decided to leave it until tonight. But I’ve been having twinges all day and fairly strong twinges this evening at about 7pm. When I got home at 8pm I did my first opk this cycle - stark white! We dtd this evening but I feel that I’ve missed ov.

Now, as you’re talking about temping... I temped for quite a few months and I always got the temp rise 2 days after the ov pain. For example, I would have ov pain on a Monday but get the temp rise on a Wednesday.

When I last conceived 2 years ago, we dtd fri night and I got ov pains sat afternoon.

So: is dtd tonight too late if ov was this afternoon? Or could ov pains be before ov given the temp rise pattern?

I personally found temping stressful but it was interesting to see the pattern and to confirm ov.

Orchid, sorry HyCoSy and the indecision about dtd was stressful. I always find pre-ov a stressful time, if that’s any consolation.

Cleozeta · 25/03/2018 21:40

Ali, it sounds like if you had pains on a monday and temp rise on a weds, then you would have ov'd on the tuesday as ov day is the day before the rise, so if you are following the same pattern and had the pains today then ov would be tomorrow. But then is pattern the same? I know mine changes every month. This cycle I had pains 4 days after my apparent ov. Bloomin bodies.

Alibaba2 · 25/03/2018 21:50

My ov pains are usually really strong (worse than AF) and normally coincide with the LH surge. So was really surprised to get a blank opk tonight. Oh and I had creamy cm which is normally happens on day of ov.

Who knows? Anyway, I guess at cd8 I can pretty much write off the egg anyway.

I’ll see what the next few days hold and also when AF arrives.

I do sometimes get boob twinges before AF but I wouldn’t say they were stabbing. When are you due?

JoJoyorker · 25/03/2018 21:53

That's interesting. I assumed your temp went up when ovulated and you then had 24 hrs before the egg died. So it's useful for future months as will show you a pattern of the day of ovulation? I think I'll give it a go. It's not costly so it's worth a try at this stage. Your app sounds good I will download it's

Alibaba2 · 25/03/2018 22:26

Doing a quick bit of research, it seems that as soon as the egg is released, the corpus luteum starts producing progesterone which causes the temp rise.

So is it feasible that I have ov pains around the time of the LH surge then ov happens the next day then the temp rises the day after ov?

I guess only a scan would say for sure.

Some sites say it can take longer for temp to rise though. The fertility friend app always put ov on the day after the ov pains.

Cleozeta · 25/03/2018 22:45

Yeah ov is the day before rise. But it's possible to have pains before, during and just after ov apparently.

Boobs are definitely stabbing today. Due af anytime between now and next saturday, depending on weather ov was cd14 when I got the first dip and rise or cd18 when I got the 2nd dip and rise! Also depending if I have my usual lp of 11 days or last months lp of 13 days. Complicated. Feel it's imminent though

JoJoyorker · 25/03/2018 23:20

I have been tracking my pains the last couple of months. I seem to get the ovulation pains 2 days before I get the peak on clearblue. I did wonder if I was ovulating before the LH surge was picked up as a couple of people said on here about over 40s ovulating before the surge.I don't think that's the case as I still have the ewcm. So I read into it and you can get the ovulation pains before you ovulate. It's most common to have pain 48 hrs before you ovulate.

JoJoyorker · 25/03/2018 23:22

Yes just having a look it's the follicle filling with fluid as the egg matures and ovary enlarges causing pains before ovulation.

Alibaba2 · 26/03/2018 07:26

Fingers crossed for that then!

Orchid222 · 26/03/2018 07:48

Morning all. I'll be interested to see if I get any ov pains this month. The last few cycles they were really strong on my left side. I know that this cycle the egg is on the right hand side so I'm curious to see if I get pain there at all or it's just my left side acting up. Despite of the doc on Thursday saying I'd ovulate in 2-3 days my cb opk showed a flashing smiley for the 3rd day in a row meaning high fertility but not peak so I'm assuming I haven't ovulated yet which is good- I can call my clinic today and ask more about the dtd right after Hycosy.
Thanks Ali. The decision about dtd was stressful because I found it to be a topic with most conflicting comments ever! It should be a simple yes you can or no you can't shouldn't it? The whole ttc thing is stressful enough why add more stress to it? 🙄

Ooooh! Away for a day and I come back to a plethora of useful info from you ladies! Great discussion - thanks. And Cleo thank u for temping advice. Lots to take in. Good news from me is that I’ve had sore boobs!! Yes!! A symptom - after the no show period I will take anything !! Oh and some EWCM so I’m taking it that there is something going on, DTD last night (what shd have been day 12 if AF had come on time) historically days 11 and 12 have been good for me so let’s see.. Also shoved my Mooncup in for good measure .. but only for a few hours as I find it uncomfortable.. the things we do!! I think temping has to happen tho, is it possible to get a silent thermo that doesn’t keep beeping?
Orchid hope you get to talk to someone today. 😊 Happy Monday all! X

littlemimosa · 26/03/2018 08:53

Orchid they told me to wait 24-48 hours but other than that sex was fine the same cycle.
We didn’t do it but I would have if my DH hadn’t have been ill! Did you bleed afterwards? I bled a bit on the same day but it stopped by the following morning. She said it was normal. I too ovulated two days after the procedure.
I did a quick google and of course found loads of women saying they’d conceived that very cycle. I never read anything about ectopic pregnancies tho. I’d go for it if I were you!

littlemimosa · 26/03/2018 08:55

Wait I tell a lie. We did dtd but it was 4 days after the HSG and 2 days after ovulation. So chances of pregnancy are very low.

Cleozeta · 26/03/2018 09:56

Faith - I don't know about silent thermomitors but if you find one let me know!! I have to muffle mine under the duvet so as to not wake DH!!

MATTSMAMMA · 26/03/2018 12:09

Morning Ladies - AF got me at the weekend - trying not to be too down about it and doing ok but keep having odd emotional moment!

All the posts about temping are interesting. I’ve never done it as it seemed too complicated but I think with ovulation being far too unpredictable nowadays to predict it might be worth giving it a shot. It does seem complicated to me though Confused

We are due another BFP on here ladies - here’s hoping one of us has good news soon! xx

Orchid222 · 26/03/2018 13:10

Mimosa we did go for it but dtd sat morning and then Sunday night so if I ovulated yesterday hopefully the sat morning swimmers were still alive and we didn't miss it. If opks are anything to go by though I haven't ovulated yet so hoping I still have a chance. Kicking myself for not dtd Sunday morning but it's not easy with the little one around :(
I too read a lot of success stories and apparently it boosts fertility for 3 months so hopefully you'll get a BFP next month 🤞

If you want to temp but don’t like the faff you can always try a tempdrop or an Ava bracelet.

KeepingTheFaith9 · 26/03/2018 22:11

Thanks Karigan will look into both - have you used them?
Also - do sore nipples mean ov is happening or has passed for you ladies.. I’m confused .... again! 😝 Thanks.
