TTC after recurrent miscarriage

Hi, just wondering if anyone else was in a similar place to me and wanted to chat about it? I'm 30, TTC my first and have had three miscarriages, all early (two natural MCs at five weeks, then a MMC where a scan at 6+5 revealed development had again stopped at 5 weeks). I've had RMC tests and am just waiting on the results of that but hoping to be able to TTC again from my next period, which should come any day now. I've found throughout the whole thing (have been TTC just over a year now) that it's really helped me to chat with people in similar positions, so if anyone wants to be TTC buddies please let me know!

Hi schnitzel - I'm really sorry for your losses, and hope you find this a supportive and helpful place to chat.

Spoke to Coventry last night - one good piece of news that I thought I'd share in case anyone else takes progesterone in pregnancy in future: she categorically said that taking progesterone doesn't mean that miscarriages are more likely to be missed. They used to think that but recent studies have conclusively proved that you still bleed at the same point, as progesterone stops the uterine lining from bleeding but can't stop the pregnancy tissue itself bleeding and passing. That was a pretty big weight off my mind, as I'd been convinced that I wouldn't bleed if taking the progesterone so not bleeding meant nothing.

That's interesting Lisa and good to know. I was told the exact opposite by the doc at my RMC so looks like the understanding of how it works is changing.

Hope you're doing okay.

Excited for you keepon!

Sorry for your losses schnitzel, you're very welcome in our small collective Flowers

How are you feeling fox?

Hello ladies may I join you? Though it’s sort of a thread that I never wanted to join (in the nicest possible way) two weeks ago today I had my third miscarriage in a row, me and Dh have been tcc for nearly 8 years now I don’t know where the time has gone. I’ve had 2 natural conceptions in 2013/14 Ending in early mc’s Started ivf this May, first cycle was terrible and bfn but second was much better and we transferred 2 5 day old embryos. I got my first bfp in over 4 years and an early scan due to concerns over it bein eptopic showed 2 little sacs. Sadly I lost both of them a few days later. We have 1 frozen embryo from that cycle but are ttc naturally until transfer.

I wish all you ladies well xx

79Karen · 15/11/2017 18:14

Progesterone wise, I was on a fairly high amount this time as they do for an ivf cycle, I still bled but it wasn’t anywhere near as much as previous mc’s I was worried that I’d hardly bled but a neg hpt and positive opk must mean things have sorted themselves out

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/11/2017 18:15

Oh karen, you haven't half been through the mill, I'm so sorry for your losses and everything you've been through.

What was it that got you started on the IVF, not having conceived or some sort of screening? What a journey. You're welcome here, hope you find it useful.

How long do you have to wait till the transfer?

79Karen · 15/11/2017 18:23

Thank you Anne I suppose it’s been a really long time, we’ve just ploughed on through and definitely not ready to give up. After not conceiving after 2nd mc we were referred for tests but nothing obvious showed up so we’re classed as unexplained and referred for ivf. We’ve been really lucky with funding in our area. Just before we started our first ivf cycle it was discovered that I had a uterine polyp which I was told could have been the reasons for our troubles however after it was removed we went ahead with the ivf as we didn’t want to waste anymore time. This will be our first time ttc since it was removed, who knows?

Oh and transfer of the frozen one is likely to be sometime early next year.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 15/11/2017 18:36

Karen I'm so sorry to hear of your losses - as Anne says, you've been through such a lot and I really hope you're able to take care and be kind to yourself at the moment.

I'm ok, Anne, thanks. Still very anxious. Got back the first beta, which was 297 - obsessive googling reveals that's on the low side but not outside the range of normal pregnancies, so it's all about whether or not it doubles now.

How are you doing? Is fertile week coming up? And how about you, fox? I hope you're feeling ok. Is anyone coming up to testing?

Gosh karen, you have been through it. I'm very sorry for your losses. Welcome to our little gang. I do hope you don't need that frozen embryo.

Lisa I'm glad the chat with Coventry was helpful and here's hoping for a result over 600 tomorrow.

Bertie that's exciting about the apartment!

I'm currently enjoying the joys of period cramps! But glad that things seem to be starting so soon after stopping the tablets. I was expecting a few days wait. Still currently managing to feel excited about TTC again which is good.

SchnitzelVonCrummsTum · 15/11/2017 19:09

What dpo was that Lisa? X

LisaSimpsonsbff · 15/11/2017 19:25

Really glad things seem to be moving quickly for you now, keepon - enjoy that condom free sex! Grin We just did withdrawal when we were not trying for testing, and was so glad to not have to deal with the, ahem, mess anymore...

V similar to the beta with my son at 19dpo x

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/11/2017 20:08

That sounds really good lisa. You are most definitely pregnant. God I hope this is the one, crossing everything for you. Hold tight little simpsonoff. Rooting for you all.

CD8 today and, green days coming up soon. Work is a massive bastard this week and I'm tired and grumpy. Got a big family do at the weekend and I'm already pissed off with all of them.

TheIntrovertedMum · 15/11/2017 20:31

Could it be something as simple as taking baby aspirin?

BertieBotts · 15/11/2017 21:08

We went to see the apartment this morning and it was SO lovely and perfect for us. Please keep your fingers crossed for us!! It would literally be a dream come true. I can't see a single downside of it.

BertieBotts · 15/11/2017 21:09

Apparently only one other person had looked at it other than us and the current tenant said he would put in a good word for us.

AnneLovesGilbert · 15/11/2017 21:15

bertie, that sounds amazing, so happy for you and excited about good things happening for you all! Fingers and toes crossed. When will you know?

BertieBotts · 15/11/2017 22:20

Don't know :( DH is impatient and wants to call them tomorrow. I've NEVER heard him volunteer to make a German phone call, ever, so I think he really really wants it.

Usually a lurker waves frantically
Just want to say that I've really enjoyed following your thread. I'm trying to conceive after a MMC last month at 13 weeks. Lisa I really hope your bloods crazily multiple for a sticky pregnancy. Anne, I've loved reading your journey, I feel like I could have a wild night out with you on the ale (haha not good whilst on this ttc lark). All of you are great and so informative (who needs google). I really hope you all get the BFPs you so deserve!

MogScratch · 16/11/2017 08:29

Lisa - that sounds a good starting point. I really hope the bloods today have shown the increase they should.

Bertie - fingers crossed you get the flat. Have you done your pre weekend test yet?

Keepon - great that your cycles seem to be back quickly and fingers crossed the surgery solves your problems.

Hi Karen - what a long time you have been trying, that must make the loses even harder to cope with. Will they change anything for the next transfer or just hope this time it works better?

Seahorses - have your cycles seemed to return to normal after miscarriage yet?

Foxtrot - have you done another test since Tuesday?

My scan is next week, feels like it has been a long time since the last one.

BertieBotts · 16/11/2017 08:57

Nope not tested yet. I am thinking I'll get one when I land, or just tomorrow, because the cheaper ones in the UK are much better than the cheap ones here and I can't do a dip strip in an airport toilet.

Have had no spotting yet which is tentatively good? I normally spot for 3-5 days before AF. I don't know my exact ovulation date, but I feel like I normally would be spotting by now. TMI though - have been constipated which is normally a period sign and when pushing yesterday that produced the slightest smear of (vaginal) blood so may be on its way. I'm not saying I'm out but I'm not hugely hopeful either. We will see.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 16/11/2017 09:44

Really hoping for you with the flat, Bertie. And fingers crossed for the test, too.

Blood taken, so just have to wait until tomorrow lunchtime to call for results. Which currently feels like a million years away!

MogScratch · 16/11/2017 10:42

No spotting sounds good. I have constipation pre period and early pregnancy. I think it is the same hormones that cause it so not a sign either way.

I hope you can distract yourself today and tomorrow Lisa.
