TTC after recurrent miscarriage

Hi, just wondering if anyone else was in a similar place to me and wanted to chat about it? I'm 30, TTC my first and have had three miscarriages, all early (two natural MCs at five weeks, then a MMC where a scan at 6+5 revealed development had again stopped at 5 weeks). I've had RMC tests and am just waiting on the results of that but hoping to be able to TTC again from my next period, which should come any day now. I've found throughout the whole thing (have been TTC just over a year now) that it's really helped me to chat with people in similar positions, so if anyone wants to be TTC buddies please let me know!

I've also wondered about sperm dna fragmentation testing? I've read that this can also cause early pregnancy failure (and mine all were) - does anyone know any more about this?

Thanks both. Do you think just start with a call to the GP? I know I'm ovulating so what tests would they do?

keeponrunning85 · 07/11/2017 13:12

I think a GP appointment is best Anne. It took me 10 months to get pregnant again after my second MC. I went to the GP after about 6 and the first one wouldn't refer me but was happy to do initial fertility bloods and some of the recurrent miscarriage bloods. I then went back a couple of months later and saw a different GP who referred me to the fertility clinic. They accepted the referral amd saw us. I don't know how much of a difference it made that my abnormal uterus had been picked up in EPU scans because that was the only thing looked into further at this point. The Consultant did say she would want us to be trying for a year without a pregnancy before any further tests and 2 years without before she'd consider any treatment. So the usual time frames really but I did find it helpful going to the appointment.

So definitely worth pursuing. Is there a particularly sympathetic GP at your practice?

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/11/2017 13:18

Booked a call with a nice one! Thursday lunchtime. She was helpful about my B12 levels when I was pregnant last year.

In the 9th month now since last pregnancy. I know it's not ages. But I feel a bit like I've used all my fertility up and still not got my baby Confused

That's useful to know keepon. How are you doing at the moment?

So what do I ask/ask for?

BertieBotts · 07/11/2017 14:08

I would ask for general investigative testing and see what they suggest.

It's been 14 months since our last pregnancy :( The other two happened so close together I thought that was a good sign but it just seems to be so random.

BertieBotts · 07/11/2017 14:09

Fragmentation test looks to be in its infancy so not particularly useful yet although apparently though fragmentation can cause issues with natural conception it doesn't affect IVF rates of success.

AnneLovesGilbert · 07/11/2017 14:33

Thank you bertie. God that's awful. How do you stay calm about it? It is random. Makes so bloody sense and the lack of any reason is so frustrating and exhausting.

You've got your clinic appointment in January haven't you, will that only be about DH and his translocation? And could the translocation affect conception or just viability?

I'm so sorry you're going through this, I don't know how you keep your chin up so well. Hope the carpet bombing is going well. Have you stopped temping for now?

I've been trawling the taking charge book again as I read it so fast I wanted to go back to some of it.

desperately seeking hope despite knowing full well AF will be here tonight or tomorrow, can't seem to help myself

bernard105 · 07/11/2017 16:55

Hi all, hoping this is the right thread for me to be on! A little about me....I've had 6 miscarriages since 2013. 3 under 6 weeks, 2 at 8 weeks and an ERPC at 11 weeks. I have one son (nearly 2) who arrived miraculously after the 3rd miscarriage, so 3 more since he arrived. Currently under Mr Shehata following the complex NK cells program and half way through my first cycle of superovulation. And breathe....! Just looking for a bit of hand holding! All getting a bit much!! X

BertieBotts · 07/11/2017 17:04

Yes we do and I did go a bit crazy a couple of months back but then remembered we have DS's birthday, my trip, Christmas and new year to look forward to. We'll be busy and then we'll see. I also like stats and I have quite a good feeling for stats, so I don't mind random, in theory!

A translocation can affect both so yeah we have to look at what the results will be. They are going to take family history and are a fertility specialist so if they suggest any other testing we'll probably look into it.

Carpet bombing missed a couple of days at the end because DH wasn't feeling well so I don't know if we made it or not, but did sneak one in today which is CD20 so should have covered everything important.

Hi bernard, welcome. What's Mr. Shehata and the NK thing about? Can you tell us more about it? Superovulation sounds good!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 08/11/2017 07:29

Was weak and tested again on a FRER. Super faint line (and nothing at all really showing on internet cheapies). Far fainter than I got on 12dpo with any of my failed ones, which hardly seems like a good sign! Will have to retest on Friday and see if it's gone by then, as otherwise I'm not sure what to do about the progesterone as obviously I won't start bleeding by myself unless I stop taking it. I guess I'll have to call for advice if I'm still getting a super faint line then.

OP posts:
LisaSimpsonsbff · 08/11/2017 07:35

By 'super faint' I really do mean 'barely visible'. I know this is my own stupid fault for testing!

Lisa! That doesn't look super faint to me at all... I think that's quite strong actually. Fx for you. I would call today and ask.

keeponrunning85 · 08/11/2017 08:09

That's not faint! I could see it without opening the picture. Eek Lisa! Finger crossing for you.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 08/11/2017 08:10

Thanks Bertie - as I say, I'm feeling very doubtful as I'm sure all three previous were better than this, and two of those were gone by 5.5 weeks! I'll just have to wait and see what happens by Friday - if a darker line or another faint line then I'll call them, if it's gone then I can just stop taking the progesterone as normal.

MogScratch · 08/11/2017 08:33

That's a clear line and from what you said yesterday, sounds like good progression from yesterday. How certain about ovulation day are you? Could that be why it is fainter than you expect? I've not used frers so can't compare lines.

Anne - how was your temperature today?

MogScratch · 08/11/2017 08:36

Ps I forgot the most important part - to say a tentative congratulations!

BertieBotts · 08/11/2017 08:52

Don't worry about faintness vs strength of lines. It's not a problem. Even progression isn't very reliable - a pregnancy test is simply a binary measure, it tells you yes or no. The only way to tell your hCG levels is with a blood test.

If you think you can talk yourself down you could try one of the digitals with weeks estimator, but even they are notoriously unreliable, so only if you can cope with getting a low result.

Definitely a line. Congratulations. Remember every time there is a chance. And you have a treatment plan this time so believe in that as strongly as you can. I would get booked in for hcg bloods at your gp for next week. Two days apart. It helps. And then if you can face a scan at 6/7 weeks? It helps to break it up into smaller chunks I feel. Or even days, like congratulate yourself and bean for every day that you make it through. I am willing and hoping that this is your one Lisa. All the best.

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/11/2017 12:46

Oh wow Lisa, massive congratulations! That's clear as a day, a beautiful line Smile

So happy for you x

AnneLovesGilbert · 08/11/2017 12:46

Through the floor Mog and came on with full force. Awful pain Sad

I'm so sorry Anne. I really hope you're able to take care and be kind to yourself today. Especially if it's a painful one too, you need rest and gentleness.

I'm much buoyed up by your wonderful news Lisa! Thanks for your kind words, and let's talk more about you!!!!!!! Smile

How are you feeling? What advice were you given about actions post bfp? I'd give them a bell and check, and definitely get your bloods done.

I'm over the moon for you x

keeponrunning85 · 08/11/2017 14:29

Sorry about AF Anne. Cake and Gin to you.

I was baby bombed by a colleague this morning. Surprisingly feel alright about it. I had anticipated it coming at some point.

Got my scan tomorrow morning and then all being well we shall be climbing back on the TTC horse in a week. Although goodness knows what all this oestrogen has done to my cycle.
