Not pissing money down the drain and avoiding the heartache of BFNs is exactly what I hoping for Bertie, and the book is so enlightening. I got it for about £8 off amazon. My brain was scrambled (with masses of info, not confusion!) and racing by the time I'd finished reading last night but it's so easy to read, and actually quite funny, I was completely hooked. She has a website as well. I haven't been on it but I'll find you a link if you haven't seen it.

And you're soooo right on Ovia vs FF. Ovia asks for a lot of info and then dishes out the same generic crap every day. It's been useful as a record of symptoms, but I could have made a note anywhere. Do you pay for it for the bells and whistles? I'm a bit tempted but not sure how long I'd sign up for and it is expensive.

NoCats, if you take it the sameish time every day I don't think it matters, you'd still see changes. She suggests doing it as you walk to the bathroom if you're desperate for a wee, and ways around working nights and things.

DH knows I'm temping and isn't worried about knowing where I am in the cycle, but he hasn't noticed me actually doing it at all. I bought the £16 digi one on amazon and the beep is barely perceptible. When I'm half asleep I have to struggle to hear it. I keep it on my bedside table, wake up, pop it in, take it out and then doze or get up.

I've had two horrendous nights sleep, last night I was awake for an hour and a half from 4:30, the night before I was awake every hour for about 10 minutes from 4. Bad sleep doesn't do much for temp consistency! But it's still useful.

I had no idea that 18 consistently high temps after ov mean you're pregnant. That's what she says and it would certainly save money peeing on sticks!

I'll stop banging on about it now, sorry, I have the zeal of a convert Grin

What it doesn't answer is why the fuck I'm not pregnant when we tend to DTD every day or at least every other day and have never missed ovulation. But at least I'm getting more of an insight into my cycle, just from a nerdy knowledge perspective. She suggests every other day works for some people but only if your partner has a proven sperm issue.

Beautiful chart grumpy, god I hope this works for you xxxx

Crossing everything!

Yellow thanks! It does seem like a bit of an unknown!!! Well I have just had a phone call back from gp to say that she did phone observed and gyne and talked to them about it and while they aren't too sure on the benefits in prevention for everyone without a specific reason they would prescribe it at rmc so they are happy for me to be started on it now... I feel pleased that at least I'm trying something.. I know it might not make a difference but it makes me feel I'm doing something to give this pregnancy the best possible shot.

yellowfrontdoor · 14/07/2017 15:36

@Smurf123 I'm glad you got the green light. In fairness though, I bought mine over the counter for 86p so I would've tried it anyway, I'm at point, like a lot of us are.
I spoke to my old boss today who's a doctor & she said aspirin is very very good, 'works really well' & taking it on my next pregnancy (touch wood I get another chance) would give me a head-start if I did need to be referred but please don't let me miscarry again.
I've also decided to completely ditch caffeine, whereas before I was having a small cup of coffee a day; and DH is giving up beer when we start trying again (I don't drink anyway). He doesn't drink a lot but I think he just wants to make me happy, bless him.

You guys make me want to try temping! It confuses me though, does your temp go up when you ovulate? @AnneLovesGilbert I feel like you could be our temping rep! Grin

TurquoiseDress · 14/07/2017 15:50

@AnneLovesGilbert
You have inspired me to maybe start temping again!

I started back in September last year, did a couple of months, saw my temp go up following ovulation but lost interest & motivation to carry on (no BFP).

Also funnily enough, I ordered that book off Amazon market place a few days ago, got it for less than a fiver with postage a couple of quid on top.

In some ways I've kind of lost hope as it's been so long we've been TTC, I'm not sure what else we can do to "improve" things.

Doing something like temping may help keep me positive.

More births announcements on Facebook, people I didn't even know were expecting- and to be honest, I don't even really know or see in RL.

Also, the ones now expecting number 3 after having had their first barely several months before I had my LO.

Makes me think a bit like, what the fuck have we been doing all this time?

Then I remind myself, for the last year or so, we have been TTC unfortunately to absolutely nil effect
Hmm

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/07/2017 16:11

I haven't even done a month yet yellow! Promise, I know barely anything, but can't recommend the book highly enough! If it wasn't so massive heavy I'd suggest we post it around each other Grin

Bertie's our expert, she's so knowledgable and wise.

Smurf123 · 14/07/2017 16:27

Yellow that sounds really positive! Thanks.. Tbh I was happy to go buy it in the shop but I really just wanted reassurance that it was OK to take and that it wasn't going to do any harm (I also have mild asthma so needed to check that)..

Smurf123 · 14/07/2017 16:32

Grumpy keeping all fingers crossed for you!!
Anne the book sounds good.. Interesting that you have now been able to work out you ovulate later than you thought.
Nocats like you I've been keeping track etc without my husband being too aware. For him it just adds too much stress if we i constantly talk about ttc..
Hope everyone on here gets some positive news soon.. You are all so nice and really kept me going the past few days when I have been a bit of a nervous wreck... For now I'm going to keep trying to stay busy and not obsess too much..... Chances are slim but I'll try....

BertieBotts · 14/07/2017 16:33

Yep, if you're not pregnant your temp will drop back down again on the first day of your period. If you are pregnant it will stay high and some people find that it continues rising which causes what is known as a "triphasic" chart.

I would guess 18 is just because people don't have a luteal phase that long.

AnneLovesGilbert · 14/07/2017 17:06

Yes, that's a very good point bertie and it's thanks to you I started temping at all. I'd been put off by assuming it was a hassle but you reassured me and it's become part of the day now. Thank you.

There are some useful graphics in the book I'm very happy to photo and paste if anyone's interested.

There must be so many books which claim to have the answer to finally getting a baby and they probably all have merits and limitations. But at this point I'm pretty open minded and will try if not everything then new things!

That's so difficult turquoise, can you hide them on fb if there's going to a deluge of pix and gushing?

What I didn't realise when I was younger (and paranoid about unplanned pregnancy, ha!) was how there is no fucking justice in baby making. Constant reminders of the effortlessly fertile is a kick in the balls. Do you ever feel like the next person who says "oh, all he has to do is look at me and I'm pregnant" is going to get a punched nose? Fuckers.

On the opposite side, my friend's whose baby was born last week hasn't said a word on fb or text. I know because her mum told my mum and I sent cards and a present which arrived last weekend and haven't heard a peep. Hoping she's got her hands full of gorgeous new born and all is well.

We had a baby visit from a colleague today. I steared clear but babies are easier than bumps which a few people have said and while I didn't go in for a cuddle it was okay.

emvy · 14/07/2017 20:36

I'm not one for temping but this talk of aspirin is making me want to try it with my next bfp (if I'm lucky enough for one of those one day). The fact that the rmc have said it can't do any harm is basically all I needed to hear! I've been a little unsure whether it could be unhelpful but haven't actually read anything or spoken to anyone about it.

Pretty sure af will be here in the next 24 hours. Spotting has increased along with cramps (and nausea and breast tenderness which is so annoying).

Smurf, some hayfever advice - I asked the pharmacist what she'd recommend during ttc and she said the drops for eyes and then a salt spray for the nose (because I get a super itchy nose). I can't remember the name but it's a natural salt spray in a white and blue bottle. I'll send the name and a photo later! It's also safe during pregnancy.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 14/07/2017 22:39

Testing in the morning, aargh. If temp has dropped should I not bother? Will report back...

BertieBotts · 15/07/2017 01:32

Yeah if temp drops (below cover line) don't waste a test. Unless it goes longer than 48 hours and no period. Or you don't care Grin

One of my friends has announced #2 at about seven weeks (gaaah) and I'm sure that another friend is TTC just from random things she has said, plus her DS is about 2 now. I would love to be pregnant at the same time as her so I'm sort of anxious every month that she's going to overtake me Hmm The nature of where I am means that there will be SOMEBODY pregnant at the same time as me, so I really don't have to worry at all, but yes. It's annoying.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 15/07/2017 05:09

Negative test argh. But temp still elevated. Waiting till Monday now

Keeping it all crossed Grumpy!

Lime19 · 15/07/2017 09:20

Is it possible to die from period blood loss?! I'm just joking, but this is quite a bright red gushing period. Every time I stand up it's pretty bad. You know how I said I couldn't wait for my af... well now I can't wait for it to piss off!

OP posts:
emvy · 15/07/2017 09:20

Best of luck for Monday Grumpy!

emvy · 15/07/2017 09:24

Only natural lime, bloody sucks really! My first af post second mc arrived this morning. Relieved/gutted. In all seriousness, if it really is consistently so heavy you can't stand without soaking a pad/tampon you should probably speak to the doctor. Also, get yourself on iron supplements asap as you'll probably be feeling a lightheaded!

Ekphrasis · 15/07/2017 10:11

Oh I'm sorry lime.

My body is weird; I really can't be pregnant as dh withdrew (sorry tmi) so I must be ovulating again? A frer was negative, I'm 13 dpo apparently but could be 11-12. I haven't bothered temping this time but I don't feel that extra heat I don't think.

Or is there definitely another LH rise near af? I'm due today or tomorrow, no sign yet. Top is opk.

We're ovulating again, so let's jump our men. It's TTC after miscarriage thread 11
Ekphrasis · 15/07/2017 10:13

lime I second checking iron. I'm a bit weird and find my iron is better, without supplements (which mess up my tummy) when I avoid milk too. I do the odd milk free month to keep it up.

yellowfrontdoor · 15/07/2017 10:13

@Ekphrasis your LH can surge again before AF.

Ekphrasis · 15/07/2017 10:21

Ah good thanks yellow. I wasn't sure if that was a definite thing or not.

Do you release an egg?

It sounds nuts but we decided to wait this month as we are going abroad long haul in a few weeks. I felt as I wasn't pregnant yet it might be best to wait. We will try before we go but I won't know if we are successful till we are coming back.

Though don't know if jet lag will mess everything up? It couldn't cause an early mc could it?

Smurf123 · 15/07/2017 10:46

Thanks emvy.. I'll have a look for it I haven't stopped sneezing..
Grumpy keeping my fingers crossed for you!!
Anne and yellow and anyone else who has taken / is going to take aspirin... Have u been told what time of day to take it or does it not matter? It said dissolve in water and take with a meal. Gp said on the phone to start it yesterday but my thw time I actually managed to get dinner made it was about 7pm so I did take it them.. Just wondering should I wait to about the same time tonight or could I take it in the morning when I take the folic acid anyway.... I hope you don't mind me asking.. I'm just worried I'll do it at the wrong time..

Ekphrasis · 15/07/2017 10:48

Definitely take it after or with a meal. I'm not sure it matters but maybe morning / lunch so you aren't lying down at night with it in your tummy?

I think the issue with it is it can corrode the stomach lining. Maybe ask a pharmacist?
