Since coming off the pill I have had my period bang on time, arriving always on the 3Rd or 4th of each month. Therefore I was expecting my period to come today or yesterday (sat/sun).. Instead since Friday j have had odd bit of brown discharge which I've only noticed from wiping or once using a tampon for a few hours.. I've since been wearing a panty liner and had nothing show up.

I didn't expect to be considering pregnancy this month as I'm the pervious weeks we have been on holiday and avoiding pregnancy via the "pull out" technique. We were told by our nurse before going on holiday to avoid pregnancy until we returned and had a test for the Zika virus.

We hadn't had sex since coming home two weeks ago but haven't had the money to have the test for Zika yet.

Any thoughts on whether this sounds like pregnancy? I haven't really had any other symptoms x

Thanks x

Sorry to jump in, but I think I remember you from a previous Zika thread 16MrsE, and seen you'd mentioned Zika in your op? Did you manage to get the tests? Are you still carrying on TTC regardless?
Sorry for the questions, feel free to tell me to mind my own! Just that my fiancé and I have recently returned from holiday where the Zika risk was high, and we're unsure of where to go from here...

16MrsE · 08/06/2017 21:53

That's correct. We went to Malaysia and Thailand last month. We were top to avoid pregnancy while there due to Zika. Husband wouldn't use condoms so whenever we DTD he would pull out but I know you can still get pregnant that way. We haven't looked too much into getting tested due to not finding one local (sheffield) and not having the money. We haven't DTD since coming back from holiday thou. I was thinking of just getting the Husband tested because if he has it we can't convieve for six months but in women you are cleared after 8 weeks of returning with safe protected sex x we really don't know what to do thou tbh. The risk is extremely low and we don't have money to get the test and travel to London :( just want to keep trying

Yes we feel the same. As far as I'm aware, neither of us were bitten (no red, itchy spots at all), we were very careful to avoid the mozzies! So we had no signs of bites, and no symptoms of Zika, yet we still feel strangely cautious. Used a condom once when we got home and then had sex once more without, so technically would have to start our six month wait again from that point, but it feels so long 😞

jensterr · 08/06/2017 21:58

Just sounds like a slightly off period to me. I also think you should be buying your own pregnancy tests but that's a different thing. Hope you get your BFP soon Smile

16MrsE · 08/06/2017 22:05

Thesearethegoodolddays - I know what you mean, the idea of not trying for another six months just breaks my heart. The Hubbie got bit once and I get three on my legs but we didn't see anything or what actually bit us. They weren't sore or itchy. But the doctors said you can be bitten without knowing and also have Zika with no symptoms until months later. Where in the UK are you? X are you close to London? I know a few on here have been there for the tests x

Jenster - I have my own test but just thought they would at least offer a blood test as it's meant to be more accurate x

Yes, the advice is all over I think! No-one is 100% sure what we should be doing with it being relatively new.
No we're in the NE, I believe a company in Newcastle does the test, but its £269 each 😕 soo much money! Especially when we're hoping to be married fairly soon. Are you definitely going to get the test done?

16MrsE · 08/06/2017 22:34

Im in Sheffield so if there is one in Newcastle that would be easier for us. All I've seen is London and that's just even more money to get down there and back just for a blood test. I really don't know. The Husband hasn't really said anything he's not pushed to go get it done but that's the lazy side of him x

I'm not sure how to do links on here? If you google Better 2 Know Newcastle it should come up Smile
I've just had a quick look there, the blood test for 7 days post exposure is £295!

16MrsE · 08/06/2017 22:46

Thanks hun. It should be cheaper for a blood test more than two weeks after you return xx

You're welcome Smile would be great if you could keep me updated on your journey! Very few people are aware that we're wanting to TTC, and even less about the Zika situation, so it's great to have someone to 'talk' to about it all!

16MrsE · 08/06/2017 22:56

Feel free to message whenever you like hun. I know exactly what you mean. I didn't tell anyone. Only my husbands mate knew but after the Zika news and the thought of not being able to for so long I gave in and told my mum but only she knows and I don't go into detail with her in case I get her hopes up. So hard not telling my best mate or mate at work :/ x

Yes it's very hard! And so frustrating thinking of the possible wait!
Are you going to get booked in for the tests? Or just carry on? I think statistically the risk is fairly low, but we keep going back and forth over whether it's worth it..

16MrsE · 08/06/2017 23:01

I honestly don't know. I'd be more tempted to do both, to try but also get the Husband tested but it's just the money situation.. I know it's not worth a baby to get Zika but the risk is extremely low :/ x

OP posts:
TheseAreTheGoodOldDays · 08/06/2017 23:07

I don't think we'll be getting the tests.. We just need to talk and decide what we're going to do and stick with it! Either use condoms consistently for the next 6 months, or throw caution to the wind and hope that the lack of bites and symptoms mean we'll be ok. I have a feeling it will be the latter.

16MrsE · 08/06/2017 23:24

Same for us. I'm too impatient and he hates condoms

The test would be ideal for you both wouldn't it :) if you decide to get booked in I will keep my fingers crossed that you get a negative result! 🤞🏻

16MrsE · 09/06/2017 11:15

Thanks hun but need to win lotto first lol x

Did a clear blue pregnancy test this morning.. Negative. Did OPK at same time and got a very faint line after some time. Still getting brown when I wipe, this is day 8 x sooo stressed out about it. And I can't help watching one born every minute.. I'm obsessed with seeing those cute babies born x

Haha if you do have a big win feel free to send some spare Zika test cash this way Grin
Hmm that's very strange. Have you been off the pill a long time? Could this just be your body getting back into the swing of things?

16MrsE · 09/06/2017 18:14

Will do :)
Been off pill for six months. Ever since then they've coma at same time each month and have always been heavy and painful. Always have been that way never experienced a "period" like this one x

Hopefully you will know one way or the other soon! Do you have some more pregnancy tests? Maybe give it until Sunday and try again if there's no sign of a 'proper' period x

16MrsE · 09/06/2017 18:42

I have one more clear blue. Think I'm gonna just leave it now, too disappointed when I get a negative :( x
