Thread 28, TTC #1 | We may be hormonal giraffes but we don't eat no low fat humous

Calling all OPK-ers, Temp-ers, Clomid-ers, Femara-ers, IUI-ers, IVF-ers and anyone else on the TTC #1 Bus.

We've been going a while now so the novelty has worn off and we're slightly battle scarred and bruised in the cervix area. We don't get a lot of baby dust in these here parts, we just keep it legs spread and fingers crossed (LSFX). We love a baby bomb from a prior bus-mate but if we get told to 'just relax and enjoy it' ONE MORE TIME you will get a punch in the face!

Hop on board, post your stats and prepare to be dazzled by the wealth of TTC knowledge we long-timeys have to share...

Key:
HS - have/had sex
GOS - good old shag
ELH - enthusiastic lavatory happenings
LSFX - legs spread, fingers crossed

Sorry AF got you binky and flash xxx

sk1pper · 21/04/2017 19:32

Everyone's trying to loose weight and I'm just here trying to desperately get my body to retain enough body fat ready for IVF. I'm eating 3 egg breakfast muffins for breakfast, eating a full dinner for lunch (and dinner), and eating peanut butter sandwiches before bed. In a month I've put on about 2 pounds...

I hope no ones takes offence at this, honestly not trying to gloat. I'm a rake and have no curves so it's not the best thing in the world being this thin. Stupid body...

SmittenPears · 21/04/2017 19:41

Alexia yes, so very sad for them. I'm so happy their GoFundMe has surpassed it's goal. Awesome of you to donate . :)

Sending you good weight gain vibes, sk1pper! Everybody's got their different challenges!!

Flashinthepan · 21/04/2017 19:44

Oh skipper if I manage to lose some I can package it up and send it over. Sorry you are struggling. Is there any sort of nutritional advice you can access via NHS for trying to gain weight?

harrietm87 · 21/04/2017 19:54

skipper you've prob thought of this already but smoothies can be a great way of getting in extra calories without feeling really stuffed? Especially if you add peanut butter or avocado (full of good fats). There are lots of delicious recipes online. Nuts generally are really good, and Greek yoghurt.

I'm still in work. Told my bosses I needed Monday off for a "routine medical procedure" and they've basically told me I need to do all my work in advance instead. To be fair they would prob be understanding if I told them the truth but I really don't want them to know I'm ttc as they will definitely see me differently, in a bad way. It's sad.

sk1pper · 21/04/2017 19:58

Harriet - yeah I've thought about smoothies but not sure I can make them in a blender? Do I need a proper smoothie maker? Avocado is a great shout though, I love it.

AlexiaB · 21/04/2017 20:10

No offence taken skipper, I've always known you had that 'issue'. Definitely second what harriet said. If you can afford a Nutribullet I'd get one. Brazil nuts are great for ttc and so high in calories it's ridiculous! You could maybe even add those weight gain powders too?

Can understand you not wanting to mention it harriet, even though it shouldn't be that way!

Flash I'm sorry I must have missed af had arrived. Grr! FlowersWine Hope you're alright.

Glad you're ok Jam Smile

glitteryvibes · 21/04/2017 22:50

harriet you can legally self certify sick for 5 days so if you feel you need more time then please take it. As far as I'm aware then if you are off sick then you are under no obligation to make up hours missed/work not done due to this. I had some time off after an operation and originally my boss said I would owe back all my on call nights missed, a little reminder of the law/massive arguement later, I did not! Sorry you are going through this.

skipper i used to make smoothies in the normal blender, worked fine, add in just plain whey protein powder as well and top up with full fat milk if you don't mind it?

flash and binky sorry af got you.

Pyjamas81 · 21/04/2017 23:18

Thanks for not judging me on the vaping and the cheeky 🍹 😊

Just came home and went straight to bed so DH couldn't pick a fight about me having a few - have PT session at the gym at 8am tomorrow so doesn't give him an opportunity to give me a hard time. He's probably stewing downstairs knowing I had a couple more than is acceptable but he'll be over it by tomorrow hopefully 😊

Londonjam · 21/04/2017 23:25

No judgement here pyjamas . It's sweet your DH cares this much but he really needs to cut you some slack. Relaxing and enjoying life is as important as any other changes you make to enhance fertility.

Harriet you are being incredibly strong and I absolutely take my hat off to you. Thinking of you this weekend xx

I've had an evening of the PILs to myself as DH is away. Very intense! And lots of talk of family / becoming grandparents. Bless them they can't wait but it's heartbreaking. I kind of want them to know we're trying and we've been trying so long but DH doesn't want them to know. Ugh.

Binky a low carb, higher fat diet (healthy fats obviously) is said to be good for pcos. Majority of the ladies on some pcos facebook support groups I'm on do this and seem to get good results, so I'm going to try this.

skipper no offence taken, I echo several others suggestions of using smoothies with some nice healthy fats in them like avocados etc to help get some extra calorie in. Waitrose are selling nutribullets for £35 at the moment!

Sorry about AF flash Flowers

Could HSG trigger ovulation? Had it done Tuesday morning. Since late Wed/Thursday I've had on and off pain over on my right side which feels very similar to ovulation. Temp has increased past 2 days too, which could mean I ovulated on day 13. I never ovulate that early. Confused

Pyjamas81 · 22/04/2017 09:59

Thanks jam - you're right, I've woken up in a much better mood today, it felt so good talking and having a good ol' bitch with my friend! Went to PT at the gym this morning at 8am which blew away the cobwebs and I feel really energised 😊 DH has a bit of a face on and is holed up in his man cave - but I'm just totally ignoring it and being my normal cheery self.

Sorry AF got you flash and binky 🙁 Hope you're both ok.

Had my weigh in at the gym - I'm just under 10.5 stone, BMI of 25 and a shocking 41% fat so I want to lose a stone and seriously bring down that fat number!! The work starts now!

Definite positive smitten - go and jump on him! And great work on the GOSing Alexia!

Kathrino · 22/04/2017 11:06

I did Day 1 of C25k this morning! And then ate a doughnut but I think it's all about balance isn't it?

Glad you're feeling better today pyjamas and had a good evening out!

Pug, I don't know about HSG and ovulation. I wouldn't have thought so because it's not going to effect your hormones is it? But our bodies are strange things so I'd imagine it's not unheard of!

Hope you're doing okay Harriet Flowers

kwick · 22/04/2017 11:40

@harrietm87 Flowers please take the time you need. I basically "shut down" for about a week after each of my MCs and then had another week to try and be myself again. TBH this last time J could gave done with another week off work - as when I went back no concession was made and I found those first few weeks very hard. It is not just the physical aspect but I am still not 100%.

SmittenPears · 22/04/2017 16:03

Kathrino, way to go! I just finished week 1 yesterday. Grin

Kathrino · 22/04/2017 16:47

Thanks Smitten and well done to you for getting through week one!

Meanwhile, CD1 of cycle 17 here. Not a surprise at all so totally fine about it.

Londonjam · 22/04/2017 17:00

Pug how was your HSG? I've got mine next cycle

Awesome work pyjamas kath and smitten on your weekend workouts

OP posts:
Gaelach · 22/04/2017 17:02

CD1 cycle 10. I'm an absolute misery guts. No 2017 baby for me. Sorry you're in the same boat kath, flash and binky

InspectorPenguin · 22/04/2017 18:01

AF arrived over here too. Early though - ended up with a 27 day cycle just as I was thinking I had finally settled into a pattern of 31. Still, at least it gets it over with with more quickly....

Well done on your C25Ks and PT sessions everyone, and glad you had a good night out Pyjamas, you deserve it after all your recent ups and downs.

Sorry you're struggling Gaelach. Hope you can find a way to enjoy the rest of the weekend Flowers

Hopefulbunny · 22/04/2017 18:04

Hi ladies,

Harriet, thinking of you, if you have to have GA you will need to be off work for the week at least which you should have regardless as its a big thing your going through and your health is more important than work.

Gaelach sorry for AF and same to all the others with AF hopefully won't be too long for your BFP'S

Pyjama's hope you enjoyed your drinks!

Pug & London how do you get referred for HSG? is this a test everyone is given for possible fertility issues?

Flashinthepan hopefully you have sorted your issue out? but if you still have a problem try lactulose its very good stuff!

AlexiaB · 22/04/2017 18:13

pyjamas glad you enjoyed yourself, you deserve it!

Jam I feel for you with your PILs situation Flowers It's hard when you just want to blurt it out in convo!

So sorry about AF Kath and Gaelach FlowersCake How shit.

Inspector Sorry about AF, too WineFlowers Hope you've got a nice distraction. Since you had a recent long haul flight to Japan do you think that could have shortened your cycle? In 2015 when I flew to Canada AF greeted me when I landed on CD21 Shock I then had a 26 day cycle! Went back to 32+ afterwards.

kwick FlowersFlowersFlowers

Well done on all the exercise girls Brew Hope you're all enjoying the weekend xx

Hopefulbunny · 22/04/2017 18:14

It's been a few weeks since my operation and I am now able to walk in speedy snail mode!

The pain has got better but in the last few days I've been getting lots of new pains. Still yet to have my first AF post surgery which I have read can be more painful but will be interesting to see if there is any improvement.

I purchased the advanced Clear blue but didn't really do any opk's as I was worried if I didn't ovulate this cycle due the surgery which wouldn't be surprising as everything has been moved around and sewn up and goodness know what lol!

I'm not to sure whether I will find it more difficult when ttc again as at least before I had the fibroids as a possible reason for fertility issues.

But anyway enjoying some me time whilst recovering which may still take some time it seems!

Hi to everyone else hope you are well.

HepKestrel · 22/04/2017 19:43

Sorry for AF penguin and gaelach

Congratulations for starting c25k Kathrino and smitten - starting ( or restarting) is always the hardest. I'm afraid I failed to go yesterday Blush

Still don't know what my body is doing, but another bfn@cd35. Just feels like another replay of 2016 to me at present.

Think I forgot to sign in to this thread. Here goes for the newbies.

Hep
Age 37 and 11mo
Number cycles: bit of a mystery.
Opker
TTC since Oct 2015. AF stopped may2016 ( most likely due to anxiety/stress). Bfn's until July. Bfp in august, but was only 7w at first scan ( so conceived in July). Subsequent scans revealed mmc. Unsuccessful mmc and successful eprc in September 2016. AF reappeared Nov 2016.

Pugmummy87 · 22/04/2017 20:43

Sorry about AF Penguin, gaelach and kath

hopeful HSG seems to be a standard test you get referred for when you see a fertility clinic. It's to check tubal patency. Anecdotally there seems to be some evidence that you are more likely to conceive the first few months after having it.

london my hsg was not too bad thanks. Was over and done with in 10 minutes. It's a bit like having a smear test. I felt some cramping when she put the catheter tip through my cervix and then when she put the dye in, I got some intense cramping pain, but it passed within a few minutes. I took paracetamol and ibuprofen an hour before. The rest of the day I kept getting some mild period like pain on and off.
The radiographer showed me the pictures afterwards and confirmed that tubes were open and clear.

kath I thought the same about ovulation, but who knows. We'll have to see if my temps continue to increase.

Very sore arms and chest after boot camp today so MIL invited me along to her Pilates taster session she was running this morning. All going well until a friend of the family recognises me as DH's wife and starts asking me questions about him and he's daughter and my job. Then get asked the dreaded question 'so, you guys thinking of having any children soon, or has being a midwife put you off?'

Now I can deal with that when patients ask, but how do you deal with it when it's someone else? I just sort of shrugged it off with fake laughter 'not just yet'.

Londonjam · 22/04/2017 21:10

Gaelach I'm so sorry Sad I know just how you feel xx
