I had quite a bizarre encounter with my GP's surgery today. I rang for an appointment - on hold waiting for ever, which I suppose was to be expected after the bank holiday. Said they had none and could book in for two weeks' time, I asked if there was any way to see someone sooner than that and the receptionist asked what was wrong and I said I'd just lost a pregnancy at five weeks (I emphasised very clearly that it was that early). She said she'd ring me back and then called and said the doctor said I should go straight to A&E! I tried to explain that this definitely wasn't necessary but she was having none of it (I'm not blaming her for this, obviously if she's been told by the doctor to tell someone to go to A&E she's going to take that seriously), and she eventually 'found' me an appointment for Friday, but kept emphasising that I must go to A&E in the meantime... I feel really guilty as they obviously completely misunderstood what was happening and how serious it was, but I did really clearly state that it was fine and I really just wanted to check in with the doctor after what had happened!

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/04/2017 12:46

How weird Lisa, but I guess good they were so keen to act and took it seriously? If completely misread the whole thing! Bless.

Good you managed to get an appointment. They have a phone triage at mine, you HAVE to talk to a doctor before you get an appointment in person. Often saves a lot of time, they'll dish you out ABs after a phone chat for all sorts of things. Didn't work quite as well with an ear infection.

I ended up in A&E post MVA as I was doubled over with pain 3 days after the op on a Sunday night. Wasn't anywhere else I could go and they took it incredibly seriously. Turned out to be an infection so I had an exam, painkillers and ABs and went home. I was really resistant as I "didn't want to make a fuss" but thankfully my DH dragged me in and he was right to worry and be vigilant.

conkerchops · 18/04/2017 12:54

I downloaded their plan and then used my own music - the app has a rather annoying woman called 'Laura ' who says lots of motivational stuff as you run!!!!

LisaSimpsonsbff · 18/04/2017 12:55

Yes, as I said not her fault at all, but it was all just weird! Of course I know there are reasons why you might well need A&E as part of a miscarriage, but I've been bleeding for three days now and it was so very early - although I find this quite a painful thought, physically I am just having a period. It's actually been much easier this time than last in terms of heaviness/pain, which makes sense as although I lost them at almost exactly the same time it felt like the first one got further somehow - I had much stronger symptoms.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 18/04/2017 12:58

I've just realised - I went to go see the GP when my symptoms went with the first one - she did a test, said I was pregnant and not to worry, and then I never bothered going back when I lost it. I wonder whether they looked at my records before calling back and so even though I'd said how it early it was thought I was much further along? Anyway, pleased to have the appointment for Friday - sure there's not much they can do, but I want to discuss it.

I was actually quite fond of 'Laura', conker, but I can see how she would grate!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 18/04/2017 13:56

Dancing my discharge papers said quite clearly to test after 14 days and to call my GP or EPU if I did't have a negative. I'd give someone a ring about it anyway, if they think it isn't a problem then they'll tell you, but it'd be good to have it checked sooner rather than later.

Lisa I ended up being sent to A&E with my mmc. I was in France and was ambulanced there! It was completely ridiculous as I'd had the tiniest spot of blood and felt absolutely fine, but they said they couldn't risk it because of a potential ectopic pregnancy. I guess ectopic is what they are worried about, but it does seem rather silly that they waste A&E's time with it, when all they do is send you to the EPU anyway.

DancingUnicorn · 18/04/2017 13:56

Glad you have an appointment Lisa, even if it did cause some confusion. I hope the bleeding stops quickly for you.

Thanks Anne, I've tried calling the EPU, but can't get through. Will try again later/tomorrow.

yellowfrontdoor · 18/04/2017 14:32

My bleeding stopped yesterday but I wasn't even told about re-testing. I had the surgery this time last week.

The consultant I saw just said we could get back to trying as soon as we wanted, we didn't have to wait for my next AF.

Should I test too?

conkerchops · 18/04/2017 14:42

Our hospital says to expect bfn after three weeks - this is one of the v frustrating things about miscarriage care - it varies so much across the country! I would defo ring EPU to ask their advice?
Good that you got a gp appt @lisa - maybe as you say the dr didn't hear the 5 week but and thought it was precious pregnancy? Still good they can fit you in this week.
Our go being a village one I have to say is v v good and have never not been able to get an appt on the day! Realise we are v v v fortunate though!

conkerchops · 18/04/2017 14:42

Previous -
Not precious I meant to put - of course all pregnancies are precious

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/04/2017 15:19

It's super annoying there isn't more consistency conker but I have to say I was incredibly lucky with the EPU and the ward. My consultant who did the op was just lovely and they're not always the friendliest breed!

Haven't had any dealings with my GP about any of my pregnancies but they get copies of all the letters, so currently from the RMC. I get copies which is a handy reminder of what was discussed.

swimchick1980 · 18/04/2017 17:49

You're all making me feel guilty with this talk of exercise!! I spent the weekend drinking wine and eating Easter eggs Grin. Will try to be more virtuous this week......

I'm on CD23 so staying to get to the trying not to but can't stop symptom spotting. One of my "symptoms" is hunger, which is clearly as a result of stretched my stomach beyond all proportion with Easter eggs! I hate this bit..... I've never been one for early testing as has taken so long to conceive each time but I'm still holding out a bit of hope for the"after you have a MC you're more fertile" theory....

Welcome to the newcomers (sorry you find yourself here) and lots of support and wishes of luck to everyone Flowers

conkerchops · 18/04/2017 18:16

I so hope the being more fertile after a miscarriage thing is true! I had a miscarriage between my son and daughter and got pregnant the next month - then between my two mmc' I had two cycles - so am keeping everything crossed it happens quickly again!

yellowfrontdoor · 18/04/2017 18:37

Against everything I thought would happen I got pregnant quickly too.

I'm holding onto the 'more fertile' theory; hoping lightening strikes twice.

I plan to seduce wiggle my eyebrows at DH tomorrow evening. Blush

lookatthemoon · 18/04/2017 18:46

I think that statistic about being more fertile after miscarriage actually extends to the 6 month period after mc. Well I hope it does ...

swimchick1980 · 18/04/2017 19:05

I'm hoping so too. I’m already more than 3months down the line but cycles and bleeding were all over the shop so this feels like my first real shot.....

DancingUnicorn · 18/04/2017 19:11

Thanks for all the advice re positive hpt. I spoke to the EPU and they told me to expect a positive for 3-4 weeks!! Quite different to other people's experience. Think the nurse was a bit frustrated if rung, but better to be safe. Fingers crossed af shows up quickly so I can 'get on it' so to speak.

Swim chick zero exercise here. I'm useless. I'm trying to carry on eating as little as I did in pregnancy to keep my weight down! There is so much chocolate at home though!!

AnneLovesGilbert · 18/04/2017 20:48

Downloaded the first week podcast with perky Laura and it was fucking brutal at times because I'm spectacularly unfit! But it was lovely being out and doing something. I barely exert myself beyond yoga and shagging so very proud of myself. DH is still in shock I did it Grin

I know this isn't ttc related so thank you to the people sharing your wisdom and advice. It's part of me being fitter and healthier and if it gets the blood flowing which helps baby making all the better Wink

Hope everyone's okay tonight.

dancing you were absolutely right to call them, im glad you did, and your health is the only thing that matters so don't be afraid of being a pain, doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

Very impressed by your fertility conker! Fx for a sticky one soon.

Lucky DH yellow, have fun x

swimchick1980 · 18/04/2017 21:32

Very impressed Anne. I think I need perky Laura in my life! I actually have a PT and he has been texting me saying we really must get your routine my routine is once a week with him and nothing else back on track. Please come in for a chat at least. I can't face it! I am a comfort eater and have been out of control of late. I know it's not good for TTC (or anything in fact) but it feels so good (temporarily of course, then I just feel fat, unfit and shit Sad).

lookatthemoon · 18/04/2017 22:07

Well done Anne! I'm became a couch 25k convert (like the others) and have never looked back since. It's great to be able to pound all the TTC stress into the ground.

conkerchops · 18/04/2017 22:20

@anne yay well done!!!! Give in I would say maybe 5-6 sessions and you will be hooked!!!! Running and the endorphins are addictive!!! Well done on calling the EPU @dancing - that 3-4 weeks fits in more with what they say at the Rosie!
Right going to drag dh away from
Shouting at Laura kunesberg on the news (he hates her!) and persuade him dtd would be more fun!

DancingUnicorn · 18/04/2017 22:25

Have fun conker!

Doublechocolatetiffin · 18/04/2017 22:59

Dancing it was good you called the EPU. It's frustrating that the NHS doesn't deal with things consistently, they really should have given you some guidance. Don't worry about the nurse, most of the people I've spoken to at my local hospital sound frustrated all the time. I guess the NHS isn't a place for happy workers at the moment sadly. Fingers crossed you get that bfn soon.

DancingUnicorn · 18/04/2017 23:17

She told me I needed to have listened to what I was told when I was there; I could feel the undertones of 'don't google the shit out of everything'. Problem is no one wrote anything down and I was in a fog of grief and general anaesthetic!! She wasn't rude, and told me to go straight in if there's more bleeding or pain. Can't really complain, she was lovely on the day I was in. Feeling a lot more positive today. Hoping that sticks around!

WLMcI · 19/04/2017 07:34

Lisa I'm not sure how it works for your area, but our EPU will only see people on referral from A&E, or after they've had a MC previously (at that point they give you the direct phone number). So I had to go to A&E for several hours, where they did a HCG test and booked me in to EPU for the scan next day. Probably a triage situation--our EPU is a tiny room off the gynae ward and seems only to have about 2 staff on at a time!

Anne well done! One of my friends did couch 2 5K and ended up running a marathon within about a year and a half! I used to run every other morning...unfortunately I hated every minute of it and only did it because I thought I had to in order to stay in shape (body image issues), so eventually I gave it up but I do a lot of walking and hiking anyway. Wish I liked running though, as it's a very quick way to get your exercise in! Good luck Smile

3 days till AF is officially due, 5 days until I'm testing...Lord preserve my composure lol!
