Wondered if I could join the thread? I've been a bit of a mumsnet lurker.

I am 27 and oh is 32. My last period started 27th June. We dtd using withdrawal method (arguably not really a method just a mood killer haha) on the 11th/12th of July. AF due 24th July. But the chances are pretty slim aren't they?

Since then we decided to ttc. No pressure but we are just seeing how things

Anyway hope it's OK I join. Love these threads- all seem very supportive and informative.

physicskate · 19/07/2017 11:40

Hi Sylv! Of course you are welcome!

It's quite a quiet thread these days... but there's a few of us kicking about. Keeps it a bit easier to keep track of who is where doing what tests. All of us still ttc are into fertility clinics and testing. We left the Brazil nuts and agnus castus behind quite awhile ago!

Mimilicious013 · 20/07/2017 11:44

Jamon · 20/07/2017 20:31

Hello!

Tee AF is due tomorrow and I haven't bothered buying more clomid so I guess I'm not going for third time lucky! It will be nice to have a month off it

Kate I hope you're getting somewhere with the clinic. I think it's self preservation mode with infertility and if you need to hide away a bit then do that. I definitely do

Welcome sylv

Hi mimi good to see you, hope you are doing well

It's not long until IVF starts so I'm hoping I cope with AF okay tomorrow.

Tee4me · 20/07/2017 22:38

Jam I hope you get a massive surprise tomorrow and AF stays away!
Hey Mim, lovely to hear from you, hope you're good.
Welcome Sylv!

So got my results back 😬
Appears I have an overly aggressive immune system. My activated NK cells are above the normal range, which means my body has potentially been attacking pregnancies like they are infections. He has prescribed steroids to be taken from ovulation for 10 days, then I have to take an early pregnancy test; if negative I stop the steroids and restart again at next ovulation, if positive I go in for an intralipid infusion (drip) which I would repeat at 8 weeks and 12 weeks (this treatment apparently calms the immune system). Would also have scans at 6, 8, 10, 12 & 16 weeks.
I have to say I'm pretty delighted to have a diagnosis and plan of attack! Annoying not to be due to ovulate for another 3 weeks, but hey ho. Going on holiday tomorrow and can COMPLETELY relax with no pressure of anything.

physicskate · 21/07/2017 10:50

Oh jam I can't wait for your ivf! It feels like a chance! Do you get one round or more?

I am actually glad they've found something that can help you tee! Though it sounds like lots of interventions and work, so I hope you're ok. This sounds like a really good result for you!

Hi mimi!!

So I've had the letter through about our next appt. august 28. They said 5 weeks at our July 3rd appt, so I'm a bit miffed at that! Still not hearf anything about the test orders though!!! It's all a bit annoying really. 4 dpo and pms symptoms starting to show... so really won't help me when I have to ring them again asking the same thing I've asked them every other day this week: where are our test orders?!

Tee4me · 21/07/2017 21:29

How annoying Kate! Hope you get somewhere chasing them this time.
Jam did AF show?? 😬

Jamon · 21/07/2017 23:08

Tee so pleased you have a decisive outcome and a reason previous pregnancies have failed - that's great you'll know next time you're doing everything you can and hopefully it'll be the key that fits the lock to get that sticky BFP

Ah bless you Kate I can't wait too. We get one fresh and one frozen transfer on the NHS. Glad to hear you've got your appointment - there is so much bloody waiting in fertility!

No news here AF was due today and has not showed. It's a bit unusual for me but I've read clomid can lengthen your cycle. I'm feeling pretty crap about it and just want AF over and done with. I started getting my hopes up yesterday but today I've had period pain on and off all day so I think it's coming. Meh

Tee4me · 22/07/2017 07:46

Oh Jam, the torture! Anything overnight? x

Jamon · 22/07/2017 09:27

She's here - cycle 21 starts today!

What an arse. Got terrible period pains to boot.

physicskate · 22/07/2017 17:02

Oh Jam that's rotten! At least you won't have to put up with more Clomid?

Yes there is a lot of waiting... and waiting to wait. So the test orders have come through, but it's pretty unclear what the procedure is on how to book them in... so ringing up on Monday about that. DH is stalling about his SA saying loads of people are on holiday.... getting to come in late one morning is going to be a nightmare..... blah blah. I can tell he's trying to put it off as I'm 5 dpo wo will test in like a week... I've once again told him it's the one test he has to do whereas I might have o undergo surgeries, have bloods taken again and again (especially as I'm literally being tested for only three things). Man up and take one for the team.

Still trying to distract myself by doing up the house... but dang is it expensive!!! I am a woman of expensive tastes!

Tee4me · 22/07/2017 23:16

Sorry Jam 😔
It's crap you're having to fight over tests so much Kate. It's the last thing you need.

More results my side, Thyroid (TSH) has come back high, putting me in under active thyroid category. Not good for TTC. I need to start Thyroxine, but annoyingly on holiday until next weekend, so can't start until then.
I have only received an email about all this today, as I'm in and out of phone signal. I'm attaching a screen shot of part of the email, would you girls take this as I should avoid 'trying' (again) until re-test results are back?! 😱 I will obviously have to ask this question when they are open again on Monday, but scared of the answer 🙈

SQUARE ONE TO GRADUATES! Come on ladies we're huntin' BFPs!
physicskate · 22/07/2017 23:25

Ideally, you should be between 1-2... have they tested for anti-thyroid antibodies?? It's fine to ttc with high tsh (hypothyroid) but can cause early miscarriage.

I used to take thyroxine. It's good stuff!! So I know a small amount about hypothyroidism... I'm probably 'sub clinical' at the moment...

I'd probably suggest getting yourself stable with the meds before ttc. Sadly, it can take ages to find the right dose for you. I guarantee they are starting low and will increase if necessary (which it probably will be). There are very real health dangers of going hyperthyroid (less than about 0.5), so you want to avoid that!!!

Tee4me · 23/07/2017 09:19

Thanks for the info Kate. I'm not sure about the antibodies as I didn't bring all my paperwork on holiday, but I assume so, they tested for so much. My level is 4.24 and he wants it below 2.5 for pregnancy. The email didn't explicitly say I couldn't try until the correct level is established, but from the sound of it I'll no doubt get that instruction when we speak in more detail. So frustrating that'll be another few wasted months. I know eventually I'll see it's a good thing this stuff has been picked up, and that it's best that everything is fully in check before we start again, but right now pregnancy feels a million miles away 😔

Tee4me · 23/07/2017 09:21

PS. What is sub-clinical?
They are starting me on 50mcg, is that low?
Thanks again for all advice!

physicskate · 23/07/2017 09:43

That's a reasonable, but not high, dose. Everyone responds differently. You also need to keep an eye on your t3 and t4 levels, as those should be in range as well, but that generally happens anyway when your tsh is lower.

I probably am sub-clinical because I am symptomatic but tsh is not high enough for them to prescribe (it was 2.6 I think last time we tested, can't quite remember). So that's annoying as I know it should be lower and I used to take thyroxine when I was at uni and my tsh then off meds was somewhere about 3, which isn't very high or anything, but thyroxine made me feel much better!!

Tee4me · 23/07/2017 10:11

Thanks Kate, so handy for me that you know so much about this, although I'm sorry it's something that's bothered you over the years! My mum has been on Thyroxine for a long time, and I know her levels were so bad that she used to fall asleep in theatres when we were younger. She won't know how it relates to TTC though. The consultant has sent me a prescription (private I assume), DH is saying I should go to GP to get the Thyroxine prescribed, but they won't be concerned with the TTC aspect, so could get messy if their advice conflicts with my Consultant. Think I just have to swallow this bill too!

I have to say, now looking at hypothyroidism, I can relate to a lot of the symptoms, have always felt that I lack energy and definitely feel the cold way more than most.

My T3 & T4 were normal x

physicskate · 23/07/2017 11:45

I believe you get all prescriptions free if you are hypothyroid?? But I may have made that up. I think the upper limit for gps is 4.5... I'll double check later. If it's that high, I wouldn't bother with the gp with your numbers. My experience is that it's definitely not understood by most gps!!! Well, the ones I've gone to anyway...

I totally get you about the cold! My husband jokes that I'm either dead or a white walker. I apologise for being dead....

Tee4me · 23/07/2017 13:37

Thanks so much Kate! When you say you wouldn't bother with GP, is that because you're saying my results aren't bad enough? In your opinion do you think there's nothing really to stress or worry about here? I can feel myself getting really anxious about it already. I'm hoping this is just a really common thing!!
Me & DH are forever arguing about temperatures!! He's constantly opening windows and I'm always shutting them!! 😆

physicskate · 23/07/2017 14:19

I think the guidelines say the upper limit is 4.5, so I don't think it's bad enough, nor is your GP likely to have enough expertise to take the lead on these (few do!!).

A website that you might find useful:
www.thyroiduk.org.uk/

You shouldn't be worried as it is easily remedied by thyroxine, but getting the right levels for meds might take some doing. Higher TSH shows a link to increased miscarriage and infertility (hence why I asked for mine to be tested last November....). I'd be very torn about whether to ttc in your shoes until levels are sorted - you can get pregnant, but I wouldn't want you to blame another miscarriage on this!! Or feel there was something else you could have done...

Tee4me · 23/07/2017 21:08

Thank you again for your wise words on this, it's been so helpful to bounce my thoughts off you! FlowersFlowersFlowers
I suspect he will ask me to wait until my levels are sorted and I'll try not too get too down in the dumps about that, as you say, going through another MC would be horrible and I would almost certainly blame myself for being impatient. I suppose there's always a small chance he'll feel my levels are moderate/safe enough for TTC, but with close monitoring if/when pregnant?! I guess I will find out next week. I drive myself mad with second guessing.
I will check out that website now.

Good luck chasing down those tests (and DH!) x

Mimilicious013 · 24/07/2017 15:30

That is so exciting!!

Mimilicious013 · 24/07/2017 16:40

I'm soo shocked. I haven't stopped pacing up and down Grin.l don't even have money to buy another test today.

Tbh I am not sure how far along now because the test started changing as soon as I dipped it and wasn't expecting it. After so many months of clear bfns!!!. my last proper af was either the 2nd or 10th of june. It is the first time in forever l can't remember when af was . which makes me about 6 or 7 weeks.eeeek
