I know, right? Just like that!

tygr · 30/01/2017 15:43

My colleague has just come in with her baby. She needs to make a decision about returning after maternity leave so I had a long cuddle whilst she spoke to our boss.

I told them that I'm considering donor insemination and was a relief to speak about it. First real life people I've told and they were supportive. Good that my boss is supportive. I'm on a contract rather than permanent so might or might not be an issue depending on if/when...

Struggling to book a GP appt to ask whether they can do any of the blood tests. The clinic suggested I ask them for the 21 day progesterone test. Is that on 21st day of cycle with day 1 as first day of period? Would they need that to be discussed and booked in advance as I can't get an appointment until around about that time. Day 21 would actually be a Sunday so would that mean I'd need to try next cycle or would Day 22 work instead?

I will contact the surgery but I find my GP can be intimidating and I'm it necessarily anticipating a favourable response.

tygr · 30/01/2017 15:44

*not

Pez82 · 30/01/2017 16:14

Tygr, the 21 day progesterone test is actually 7 days after you ovulate (or 7 days before your period) so not necessarily on day 21

I feel so relieved after talking to the doctor who did my IUI. He said not all doctors recommend progesterone but this was actually in my treatment plan from day 1 (due to lining issues). He said that the pessaries cannot stop ovulation once the LH surge has happened. It would need to be taken for about 7 days before hand to stop it.

He also said that looking at his notes he hadn't seen any follicle on the day of the IUI which means that I had ovulated by then.

So the drama is over, I feel so good. And to be fair, a bit stupid about panicking so much!! Thanks for bearing with me Smile

Still no AF but lots of pain today, the AF from hell is on it's way!!!

tygr · 30/01/2017 16:30

Thanks Pez and I'm glad you spoke to the doctor and he was able to set your mind at rest. Hope next go is the one :)

I've booked an appt for Day 22, which would be 7 days before according to my tracker app. I can book online with a 36 character note so I've done that. I usually see him for anxiety/ depression so it'll be a bolt out of the blue although I did mention wanting to conceive last year when I was reluctant to start anti-depressants.

I suspect I'll have to see the nurse for a blood test so I might have to be brave and ring the surgery and explain it anyway. Making phone calls sets off my anxiety and I don't find this an easy topic to broach.

I'll leave you all to your PMA. I'm in worry mode...

tygr · 30/01/2017 16:58

Have contacted surgery via online form. No scary phone call...

CautionHormone · 30/01/2017 17:10

Thanks late! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who can see the difference between the photos haha. I thought I was going mad! When I shown my family (grandparents, auntie, etc) they seemed reluctant to be happy for me/to say anything positive... It's so nice that I can come on here for a bit of support.

tygr can't you book online to see the nurse too?

pez I'm so glad you got everything straightened out with your clinic re the pessaries. You must feel so relieved! Are you going to try again next cycle?

I'm absolutely dreading Thursday (my gyno appointment, in case you've all forgotten 😂). I'm worried he's going to say I haven't lost enough weight, that his scales will tell me I haven't lost enough as mine do, that he'll scan me and find another cyst, that he'll tell me the surgery will be in a couple of weeks and I haven't had much time to prepare (it's all private, so it's probably going to be much quicker than normal)... I'm such a worry wart anyway, and because I just know something's wrong with my reproductive system, I'm worried about what the outcome will be.
Sorry to keep banging on about it ladies. Sad

Pez82 · 30/01/2017 17:18

Tygr, don't worry, most GPs would now have come across a single woman wanting to conceive with donor sperm. Mine wasn't nervous or surprised at all when I said it. No doctor since I started the journey has even ever asked me if I could afford it! (Although thinking about it I think the NHS system shows our salary bracket)
However there are some specific blood tests they can't order (they have to choose from a drop down menu on their system and apparently get penalties if they ask for too much stuff out of the ordinary). Don't worry if this happens as you can always get these done at your FC.

This said mine did all the standard ones with no problem (hiv, hepatitis, cmv, rubella, etc.)

Don't feel you have to explain anything to the nurses etc, they will have the prescription and they won't need to know more!

You've done the difficult bit and initiated the journey so well done for this!

Pez82 · 30/01/2017 17:21

Yes Caution, I'm doing another cycle as soon as this one starts!!
You'll be fine on Thursday you'll see, it's the bloody wait that makes us go crazy!!! Maybe just don't drink too much liquid on Wednesday and go to the loo before the appointment Wink. Every little helps

kwick · 30/01/2017 17:51

That makes a lot of sense late

So glad they did an IUI on The Archers - despite my mum's scientific background and my regular "15 minute trainings" I really do not think she gets what I have been up to - she is a massive fan of The Archers - so maybe now she knows more Hmm

pez so glad you got it sorted Smile

tygr I hate seeing GP too - maybe write down what you want and why so if you have a meltdown you can just hand it over?

caution good news you are seeing a specialist- they will either put your mind at rest or find a problem and deal with it.

I am exhausted... really not looking forward to day trip to Paris tomorrow- but this should be it for a couple of weeks.

OP posts:
CautionHormone · 30/01/2017 18:35

That's great pez! Onwards and upwards is the way forward! Best of luck with your second cycle, although I will wish you luck nearer the time too Wink
I know! Since this year started, I've just been anticipating the appointment, and it's been driving me up the blimming wall... I'm restricting fluids from Wednesday night and drinking nothing Thursday morning, and I'm going to make sure my bladder is fully empty Grin

kwick I totally agree with you. I hope he puts my mind at rest! My appointment Thursday is predominately to see if I've lost enough weight to go ahead with the laparoscopy. If so, I suspect we will be booking it then (it's in the private hospital, so I presume things will be done quicker than NHS) and I hope to do another scan.
Sorry to hear you're exhausted, and that you've got to go to Paris tomorrow - but I'm glad it's the last trip for a few weeks. Even though you'll still be rushed off your feet, you won't have the added stress of the trips for a while!

CautionHormone · 30/01/2017 18:36

Oh, and pez; I'm also wearing the lightest clothing I own. No big jumpers or jeans - leggings and vest tops is the way forward Grin

pickle162 · 30/01/2017 19:08

Yay pez I'm so pleased they managed to clear everything up and the same for you late good news all round.
caution hope everything goes ok on Thursday,it's definitely the waiting that's the hardest bit in any of this.

Had another bad tummy this morning, so much frigging pain!!! Day 1 of eating better-so far so good

CautionHormone · 30/01/2017 19:15

Thanks pickle - hope everything goes ok for you too on Thursday!
Sorry you've been poorly this morning... My mum suffers IBS and has had surgery and all sorts, so I know first hand how bad it can affect you! Look at the FODMAP diet - it's helped mum wonders xx

StorkAhoy · 30/01/2017 19:17

late any decision is a good one, so if you are happy that's good. And now you are informed, which is also good. I'm happy for you!

AF surprised me today, I used to be on clockwork 28 day cycle, but my first ivf round extended it to 40+ days, when my bfn happened, decembers was 32 days and Jans has shrunk to 29, I'm loving how quickly my body is snapping back (and frankly I've spent so long not liking my body for lots of reasons that I feel happy to be praising it!), so tomorrow need to book my pre treatment day 4-6 scan, and also my endo scratch for day 25. So anyone had one of those?

kwick · 30/01/2017 19:53

I am having a very nutritious dinner: lemon, ginger and manuka honey tea and skips Grin

pickle Flowers

Sorry stork cannot help you there.

tygr well done of sending your enquiry off, I'm not great with phoning either so totally get it. Hopefully they'll come back to you soon

Oh kwick you poor love, hope you feel better soon.

Get to take my little nephew swimming on Thursday (going there after my appointment) I'm so excited! Not sure I actually fit in any of my costumes anymore :/

kwick · 30/01/2017 20:38

pickle I feel fine - I had a massive lunch and saw the Skips in the £ shop... the saltiness is very comforting.
How old is your nephew? I used to love swimming with mine - he was forever inventing new styles and making me do them! They grow up so fast 😭

OP posts:
pickle162 · 30/01/2017 20:56

Oh that's ok then, thought you were still poorly :)
He's coming up for 4months old but he's been going to swimming lessons each week since he was about 7weeks old with his daddy but me and mummy are going it alone :)

kwick · 31/01/2017 06:47

pickle that is a lovely age!! I am sure you will have lots of fun!

I am sat on the Eurostar again... whilst I slept quite well I feel exhausted... will try and get some shut eye on the train.

OP posts:
pickle162 · 31/01/2017 07:07

Can't wait :)

Safe journey to Paris! I went to bed at 9.30 slept mostly all the way through and still think could sleep a few more hours 🙄

Have a good day everyone

Pez82 · 31/01/2017 07:41

I wish we could swap trips kwick, I'm off to Milton Keynes today and tomorrow (that's 8 hours of trains over 2 days Confused). Not that I'm saying the journey is easier but I don't go back to my home country very often so a trip to Paris sounds nice Smile hope you can get some rest on the journey

I also did my first decent night in 10 days and only woke up at 5:30am. AF is here!! But bloody painful 😖 (excuse the pun, only realised after I'd written it)

Stork, is an endo scratch for the embryos to stick? If you're getting more eggs collected this month does that mean the fertilised ones are then frozen and put back next month or put back fresh this month? So exciting you're about to get started again

StorkAhoy · 31/01/2017 09:26

Hi Pez! So endo scratch is thought to help get the embryos to stick. Its done on day 25 of the cycle before I start my IVF round, I then start AF a few days later, on day 2 of that new cycle I start my short protocol meds, 2 wks after that hopefully egg collection, then fresh blastocyst transfer of 5-6 day old embryos. Hopefully with some to freeze as well.

MiriAmmerman · 31/01/2017 12:03

Glad you're feeling better Pez Smile

We had a great appointment yesterday too; very reassured about everything. As this is cycle 6, we're throwing everything at it and having a fully medicated cycle. AF arrived yesterday lunchtime for DP, so today is now day 2 of cycle 6 for us.

Had scan and blood tests yesterday (Dr happy with everything). Our fridge is now full of Gonal F injections which I need to give to DP today and Thurs (day 4). Also have a dose for day 6, but they are scanning DP on day 5 so may tell us not to do that one. They don't want to overstimulate - we're hoping for a couple of very large eggs, not millions of eggs! We may also have an Ovitrelle trigger shot this time. Onwards and upwards - we're very excited again now!

StorkAhoy · 31/01/2017 13:15

Miri such excellent news! I found numbing my thigh with an ice pack made the ouchy injections more bearable!
