Getting ready for baby challenge

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 19/12/2016 10:51

Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

Awhhh Grumps it's so annoying when Men do that... they can never make their minds up! My DH is just making me broodier by the day talking about baby stuff but doesn't want to bring trying further forward than April even though i am thinking a Nov birthday would be nice! But i don't want to push it and then
Him go the other way and not TTC

Oysterbabe · 08/01/2017 11:35

DD was born almost 5 weeks early so planning when you want them doesn't always work! I ideally wouldn't want a summer baby but shouldn't imagine I'll care once we start ttc, I'll just be keen to get pregnant as soon as possible.

confusedat23 · 08/01/2017 12:06

To be honest Oyster a march baby would be nice as then i would get summer off as Mat Leave but I can't imagine a newborn in summer is the best... so there are pros and cons... i guess what i am saying is that i would like a baby right now loool

HbH04 · 08/01/2017 12:24

What are your DH's reasons for April confused ? x

Oysterbabe · 08/01/2017 12:35

DD was 7/8/9 months over summer and it was really nice. We did baby led weaning so we went to the park and had picnics where I just put some food on a mat in front of her and let her go nuts. At least there were a few meals where I didn't have to clean the floor afterwards Grin

confusedat23 · 08/01/2017 12:36

Ermm i think it is just moneywise
Now... at one point i think there were things he wanted to get out of his system like Getting wasted with the lads etc but since we moved further out from london about 3 months ago he's turned into a homebird and survived so i think that has changed. The money thing is difficult because we have a £7k baby fund to use which is very fortunate but DH (like most men) doesnt realise how much this will help after he has watched SIL struggle through the first 2 years of motherhood and thinks it will be the same for us

confusedat23 · 08/01/2017 12:36

I should say he has come forward from June already though! Lol

DancingUnicorn · 08/01/2017 12:49

Confused maybe you can end up with a happy 'accident' before April?! 😉

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2017 12:49

I know confused it's like once you've made the decision you don't want to wait even though it's sensible! I want a Feb /march baby also as I don't want to be off work over year end review cycle etc but waiting until May June to conceive seems ages and I'm worried it won't work! Right now a snuggly baby next Xmas sounds great.. plus I need an excuse for my massive tummy (for someone who normally has a washboard stomach I'm struggling massively with this continued bloating)

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2017 12:51

Also we are in the middle of decorating our house in a rather major way so I want all that to be ready - motivation to get it done is c high right now!!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2017 12:55

V high I mean

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 08/01/2017 13:26

So tempted to have a happy accident myself!!! Also really hungry today! Nearly home time (in four hours ahead of U.K. time). Anyone else weighing in tomorrow?

HbH04 · 08/01/2017 13:35

Weighing in about 10 mins HELP!

Don't have scales at home so have to do it at the gym!

Have drunk a litre of water tho.... Might Have a wee first!! (Every little helps!)

DancingUnicorn · 08/01/2017 13:39

I need to wait until later in the week. This weekend has been a write off!!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 08/01/2017 13:44

Good luck HB!

unicorn - I've deliberately set Monday as weigh in so I don't go off the rails at the weekend. But yeah, I know what you mean!

On the plus side - first week of Jan out of the way girls. One step closer to those later months!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2017 13:53

Am weighing in tomorrow dreading it!!

Oysterbabe · 08/01/2017 16:23

I weigh almost every day. I expect and don't worry too much about the fluctuations. I only record lower weights on my app. It means that sometimes a weight doesn't get recorded for a few weeks but when it does my app gives me a little cheer Grin

Good luck with the weigh ins!

confusedat23 · 08/01/2017 16:39

Oh Dancing dont worry I am hoping for a very much happy "accident" Grin lol... speaking of that does anyone know if you are allowed a hot bath in a completely accidental TWW? I love a good hot bath

Oyster that is my thinking too!... that sounds really cute with DD btw i will have to remember that idea

Grumpy can you not seduce DP into not using a barrier method? Maybe trying pull out as well? It holds a one in four chance in a year to get preggo so i'm happy with those odds until April!

About the whole good time for mat leave thing i work shifts and i really struggle during the later winter months so i am willing to sacrifice not having summer off to have those months off lol

I need to wait for weight in too.. Dancing what day are you delaying to? good luck to those who are weighing in today and tomorrow

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2017 16:48

Confused we aren't using anything so he is understandably nervous lol but we are not actively trying yet

TheGrumpySquirrel · 08/01/2017 16:50

So yes relying on pull out most of the time but not being super careful

DancingUnicorn · 08/01/2017 17:42

Confused I'm thinking of weighing maybe Wednesday. But will probably cave. I tend to do it too often anyway... I would guess you're probably ok with a hot bath. Just finished reading Expecting Better by Emily Oster, which had a section on tww. But other people may have different opinions. (I think I'd be happy to have one)

DancingUnicorn · 08/01/2017 17:44

I think for me timing may leave would suggest waiting, but neither me or oh want to wait. So I guess it's out of my hands. Will see how long it takes. I imagine it's pretty hard to fully control?!

MrsC2017 · 08/01/2017 18:06

unicorn must give that book a look, I'm in the market for a new book and I need to distract myself coz I'm getting too much in my head thinking about things now and over analysing which is classic me so maybe a book would calm me a bit, also being back to work will help, less time for obsessing!

confusedat23 · 08/01/2017 18:11

Oh ok Grumpy yeah I understand then... i have a friend who has been TTC since September but she cannot get her DP to have sex with her either... and it was his idea!

Yeah tbh Dancing i will probs weigh tomorrow and just feel down lol.. oo is that expecting better good? I had a hot bath anyways lol i couldn't resist!

Also I don't think you can ever really time it... i will try and be more careful in March because i do not like the idea of a christmas baby but it could be late and not be a christmas baby anyways lol

HeyJupiter · 08/01/2017 18:12

Hello :)

Just wanted to say hi and ask if I can join you all. This is our first month actively tying to conceive but also would be good to have some support to keep eating in a healthy way at the same time. Managed to lose some weight last year before my wedding but would still like to lose some more. The Practice Nurse happy for me to cut calories (a bit) as long as eating balanced whilst TTC...

So
Age: 32
Kids: None
TTC: Now! Cycle day 12 and just got solid smiley face on OPK which means I will ovulate in next 12-24 hours. We've been DTD regularly for last week (DH doesn't know what's hit him... "What? On a weeknight??!" haha)

AF due in two weeks. Fingers crossed. Not feeling confident it will happen that quickly but really keen to keep up the healthy eating and exercise.

Good luck everyone!

Grumpy I've been trying to keep the ovulation chat to a minimum as I know my DH thinks its over the top to even be using OPKs etc when we've only just started trying. I might end up continuing to use them anyway and not mentioning it so much so he doesn't feel overwhelmed by it or something. Guess we're all trying to adjust to this at the moment (DH's included!)
