Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

Just had a quick look online about Zika and it says the WHO has recommended that women wait 8 weeks after the last possible exposure before attempting to conceive BUT men should wait 6 MONTHS as the virus can live in the sperm!! That's a bit scary isn't it! I don't think where we're going in Kenya is currently at risk but it does make you think!

Wiggleyfingers · 20/12/2016 09:59

Wow! That is scary! Especially as I thought sperm renewed every couple of days! Blush So much to learn!

juneybean · 20/12/2016 12:34

I got my period last night so decided to start temping this morning, although I woke up at 4am and then again at 7am so I did it at 7am but not sure how reliable it'll be, but this is just a pretend cycle to see what my body is doing.

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 20/12/2016 13:00

Ooh exciting Juney. Sounds very scientific. I think I'm going to stick with those clear blue ovulation tests. I need to get my implant out first. Not sure if everything returns to normal right away so might take a few months to be able to track properly. Are any of you giving up alcohol while TTC? I don't think I'd have the willpower!

Redpony1 · 20/12/2016 13:50

I gave up alcohol 2 years ago because it is a waste of money (i have never ever drank casually at home anyway so wasn't hard to stop drinking when out!) So that's one thing i don't have to think about luckily timefortea :)

This temping thing confuses me, i think i'm just going to DTD alot at first, see how far that gets me :D ha!

juneybean · 20/12/2016 13:54

Ahh I have to temp as in a same sex relationship haha

Wiggleyfingers · 20/12/2016 13:59

I have a January birthday so I'm thinking of cutting back after that! You're right, it is a waste of money but I've slipped into the habit of having a glass of wine some days after work so I could definitely try and cut that out in preparation!
Temping is so confusing! I've been temping for the last few months after having the coil removed and I've just found out I've been doing it wrong as my thermometer is only to one decimal place. Gaaah!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 20/12/2016 14:09

God I'm definitely just going to stick with one of those digital tests as this temping business sounds way too complicated! Wine is definitely my downfall and Doritos but I'll try dry Jan and go from there. I live in Dubai and everything here is centered around alcohol - bottomless brunches, ladies night etc. It's everywhere! Hard not to get sucked in but not doing my waistline any favours. I'm going to be strict on booze and carbs in new year. Glad there's a few of us doing this - we can keep each other motivated Smile

Hi ladies,

I too have been a recent lurker on a few boards, and yay i can join in on this one!

We're getting married in May and planning to TTC pretty much straight away. I've got at least 1.5 stone to lose before I feel I'm in good enough shape to think about babies but hoping the wedding motivation will help me with that after Christmas!

HbH04 · 20/12/2016 16:21

Absolutely pony! Give it a few months the old fashioned way and then try other things out if it hasn't happened!

My clinic just told me to google re. Zika and I found everything from 28 days to 6 months! My DH went today and they said six months for guys... I think our main concern will be not getting bitten in the first place... I will exist in a cloud of DEET for two weeks!

Wiggleyfingers · 20/12/2016 16:30

Good idea! If you can get hold of any incense they are really good at keeping mosquitos away too.

confusedat23 · 20/12/2016 20:13

Hey Ladies can I join?... im 23 and looking to start TTC in June. Currently in the process of coming off the Yasmin pill and waiting for my cycles to return to a pattern. We also have the whole Zika thing going on after honeymooning in Oct in Florida so deffo have to wait until April at least to try!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 21/12/2016 03:02

Hi confused and teaping- welcome aboard! Wow so there's a lot of worry about this Zika virus. So much to think about. April will fly in confused once we hit new year! We have a wedding to go to in early feb next year and then my parents are visiting in march so the first few months will zoom in quickly I reckon. Hoping the wedding will motivate me to slim down a bit! Went clothes shopping last night for christmas stuff and was able to grab skinny jeans in size 14 that looked ok so that's a start - i hate jeans shopping! Will be happy to get back to a smallish 12! Xmas Smile

Hey oyster - out of curiosity how quickly did you fall pregnant with DD? Did you track ovulation? Very exciting that your TTC no2!

OP posts:
Oysterbabe · 21/12/2016 06:43

Hiya!
It took 5 months from stopping the pill. It took a couple for my cycle to settle down. I used opks and took my temperature. Except for the month I conceived! I was on honeymoon so didn't worry about it and just had lots of sex.

confusedat23 · 21/12/2016 08:49

Hi Theres we have set ourselves an official month of June just so even if the cycles dont get a pattern we feel like we are doing something!... We arn't very good at sticking to plans though so we will see. The months will Fly by for you! I know for my wedding last year from Jan to Aug felt like ages but it flew! Also never judge your size by the skinny jeans! they are the most evil!... I am looking to lose at least a stone to be a comfy size 10... I have no will power when it comes to food so I am sure I will pile on the pounds when I get preganent. Does anyone else thinks its a good idea to start using OPK's early to get th know their cycle better?

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 21/12/2016 09:03

That's my plan confused - we're going to use the opks and maybe an app to chart things and then for the months we're avoiding (on hols etc) we can avoid DTD around those dates but it will still mean we know when to get cracking when ready if that makes sense. Going to start vitamins and folic acid too to be in prime shape! Time will definitely move quickly. I really don't know where 2016 has gone tbh!

OP posts:
Wiggleyfingers · 21/12/2016 09:12

I'm using the Ovia app at the moment! It's been about three months and it's beginning to predict my cycles with some accuracy! I would recommend it Smile It's so frustrating how long it can take for our bodies to regulate! Bloody hormonal contraception!

Redpony1 · 21/12/2016 09:19

Still no withdrawal bleed for me! I think i am broken :( ha!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 21/12/2016 09:23

Didn't you say you came off pill 2 weeks ago pony? Aww it can take a while to go back to normal. I'm not sure how long it takes with implant. I've had no periods for over 3 years so I'm not looking forward to the first one!

OP posts:
Wiggleyfingers · 21/12/2016 09:27

It will come pony! With the coil it took about 3 weeks. Hang in there!

Redpony1 · 21/12/2016 09:50

You know what will happen, it will come along on Xmas day when i am super busy! Xmas Grin

15 days off now i think....

It's not that i'm worried about it taking ages, it's that i always bleed heavy which is the main reason i started Cerelle in the first place. It doesn't start light, just nothing to full on red waterfall at a random time, so i'm never prepared! Damn body, being female is so hard

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 21/12/2016 09:55

Ah pony fingers crossed it comes along soon in a convenient manner. My SIL has just posted on fb that her son has chickenpox. Doesn't bother to tell any of us that we are going to the house of pox for Christmas! I've had it before so shouldn't be too bad but there will be 4 kids in house and a new born (two of the kids haven't had them) so this should be fun! Was already dreading the in laws Christmas as it is! Xmas Sad

OP posts:
teaping · 21/12/2016 09:56

I hadn't even thought about Zika! I didn't know it'd take 6 months for a man to be 'clear' either! So naive! We haven't booked our honeymoon yet but I just googled and it seems like it's everywhere we were thinking of going. Doh!!

confusedat23 · 21/12/2016 14:22

Theres Do you know what OPKs you are going to use? I have just ordered a massive batch from Amazon and I am going to just start using them straight away because they are so cheap! Have you thought about what app you are going to use yet and what vits you are going to take?

Wiggley I have been trying to use Ovia but i find it a bit infuriating! Xmas Blush I am sure it is not getting my timing right at the moment. What do you input into it? The hormone thing is so annoying! how long have you been off the pill?

Red That would be so typical if AF turned up then! Maybe if you feel she might show up put a pad on ready? I was on the normal pill and I have found that although my AF was really heavy before being on the pill is seems to be lighter since coming off which makes a nice change! I hope it will be the same for you

Teaping Where are you thinking of going on your honeymoon?
