Getting ready for baby challenge

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 19/12/2016 10:51

Hi all, we are planning on TTC in the new year. Before that I want to get a bit healthier lose three stone and generally be in the best shape possible to get pregnant and run around after a baby. Is anyone else in the same boat? Would you be up for a little thread to keep us all on track? Planning on doing a dry January as a kick start and then will be dragging my arse to the gym after Christmas as well. Very open to suggestion and ideas to shift the bulge. Would be good to have a few buddies though. Anyone fancy joining in?

Evie so you are two weeks late and got a faint positive.. how long have you been off the pill? Can you take another test and show us a pic?! Maybe the first BFP on this thread - how exciting!!

Re diets, I found skipping dinner twice a week (so kind of like 5:2 except without calorie counting) works really well. And yes limiting the hours a day you eat as intermittent fasting does help burn fat.

confusedat23 · 02/01/2017 15:52

I just had a lovely visit from the in-laws! They did the whole we will be round in 30 mins thing and i had to rush around like a mad woman to make the place look like a show home! Just a question does anyone else have a problem with their DP and drinking? Once mine is out there is just no way I can get him to come home unless there is no other option! MIL was talking to me about it and made me feel really down and upset

Oo Evie those are like IC strips! Did you not get any mid-stream pink dye tests?

I think i might start skipping breakfast as all other meals are the same as DHs

EvieSparkles0x · 02/01/2017 16:38

Oooh thanks grumpy, although I'm doubtful, just as I was sitting down thinking yeah that looks like a definite line, I start cramping and (tmi alert) get a glob of blood when I wipe :( :(

However, it was pretty brown and it was literally just that, it's already stopped?? I just don't know what my body is up to, I came off Micronor in September and have regular periods, including when I was on it (it's a progestin only pill so you take it every day).

Really, really frustrated, I thought it was coming to a head either way twice today, first thinking I got a BFP and then thinking AF had finally arrived. :(

Oh well, will just wait longer and will try to get a pic up later :) and grumpy the skipping breakfast is a great idea, if I'm not pregnant I will be joinig you on that!

confused sorry about your in laws! And with regards to your dp, mine used to go out for ages just listening to music and chatting with his friends if he went out and would sometimes have to text him reminding him its nearlt 2am or something! Doesn'thappen anymore but I know what you mean. Do you think you can ask him to come home by a certain time? I think its usually a pretty reasonable request, not like you're not tellinh him to go out or anything :) And get him to do dry January with you!

Wiggleyfingers · 02/01/2017 16:46

As someone who regularly skips breakfast I wouldn't recommend it! Unless you have incredible will power it's really difficult not to snack/binge before lunch. Theres I agree about drinking more water, I'm usually dehydrated! My plan is a yoghurt for breakfast and soup for lunch. I've done well today! No snacking and chicken with lots of vegetables for dinner. No exercise as of yet but I'm aiming for every other day or I won't stick to it otherwise. Charging the FitBit tonight as it hasn't been used at all this month. Evie exciting news!! Everything crossed for you. Keep us updated!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 02/01/2017 17:26

Yeah I skip dinner, not breakfast! I am always hungry in the morning. I find if I work out in the evening it's usually too late for dinner after that and I'm not hungry immediately after exercise so I have a herbal tea and go to bed.

EvieSparkles0x · 02/01/2017 17:38

Thank you Wiggley Halo It does sound suspiciously like implantation bleeding but can't see how it would be given I'm 2 weeks late, however I remember be confused at my dating scan with DD as the dates seemed waaaayy off (so much that she ended up being 8 weeks at the scan instead of 11), so maybe I have a weird ass cycle Confused

That's also really interesting I find it much easier to skip breakfast and drink lots of water, my weakness is chocolate which DP gets me all the bloody time and big dinners! Still trying to decide what exercise to do though, is anyone planning on doing any strength/weight training?

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 02/01/2017 18:28

Ah evie im really hoping it's good news for you. I might give weight training a go. It's meant to be more effective than cardio and takes less time.

Confused - what happened with the MIL? What did she say? My DH has his moments too! Sometimes he comes back absolutely hammered but hopefully he'll grow out of it, the big kid!

I've just downloaded a new app called Nutra Check. Very similar to My Fitness Pal but easier to use and sets good targets. You can also adapt it to your goal such as low carb/fat/sugar. Quite useful for me with my sugar addiction! Hope everyone has had a successful day 😊

confusedat23 · 02/01/2017 19:20

Thanks for your help ladies... MIL just has her moments. To be honest its not all DH fault I can be a bit to over worried because he was drugged by a friend a few years ago and he was on his own in Central London and thought he was going to be murdered and it was awful i have just nevet gotten over it really... i used to work with a ladie whos husband was the same and that helped it's just if he goes out I can guarentee he will not be in until at least 5-6am anf i tend to wake up worrying! MIL actually asked me if I regretted getting married... and it's like a huge kick to the stomach because I don't know if DH thinks that too?

Sorry for moving away from the TTC stuff

TheGrumpySquirrel · 02/01/2017 19:48

Ahh confused try not to read too much into her choice of words. But your DH will have to start acting a bit more responsibly now that he is planning to be a father.. my DP (now DH) in the past did not communicate when he was out which was a bone of contention however now we have a rule that either of us will text if they are out beyond a certain time. Or say in advance that it will be a late one so the other person can go to sleep without expecting anything. This is much less worrying for me. But neither of us are huge party animals so it's not a regular thing. Worst case he's back 1am. 3am on his stag! Bottom line HE has to WANT to change his habits xx

DancingUnicorn · 02/01/2017 19:50

Oh confused I'm sorry. Not a nice question to be asked!! Hoping you have struggles to think of healthy snack wine and chocolates to make up for it!! I get panicked when oh is in late/out drinking even with no rationale behind my fear.

confusedat23 · 02/01/2017 21:22

Grumpy he is definately not perfect which i understand but it's hard to explain he is alot better than he used to be before we got married. He had not been out at all for over 2 months before Christmas so he was due a bit of a blow out. There is a lack of communication also when out but that wasnt an issue over Christmas and there is now a rule that if he wants a big night out he will stay at a friends in town so like you say I don't have to worry about him getting home. I guess it was just a really hurtful thing for her to say about her son and so that hurts me too.

Dancing it's nice to know i'm not the only worrier out there! Sometimes I feel like I am mental lol... no goodies but I did prepare lunch and dinner for the next 3 days how sad! Lol

TheGrumpySquirrel · 02/01/2017 22:00

Confused of course, not a nice thing to say at all! Anyway I hope you're feeling a bit better about it all.

Today we picked up my DD from her dad and I told her I'd stopped taking my "anti baby pills". She is so excited to have a baby brother or sister. She has been sworn to secrecy!

Redpony1 · 03/01/2017 09:20

Happy New Year everyone! I have been silent over the xmas break as i hate using MN on my phone, it's just not as easy as on a laptop Sad

Anyway, still no AF for me, last pill was 28 days ago Hmm

Not getting hung up on that though, going to concentrate on slimming down and staying fit. Did my normal running over xmas so no change there.
DP weighed & measured me on 1st Jan & the switch to low carbs & healthier eating has been pretty easy already, I've not been hungry at all. I already run 3 or 4 times a week, but going to do other exercise on my non-run days too.

I have a 10 mile XC race on Sunday to look forward to as well!

Hope everyone is ok & settling back in to work Grin

confusedat23 · 03/01/2017 09:34

Awhhhh Grumpy that is just so cute! Do you worry about her telling people though?

Omg Red how have you not tested!?!? Did you come off the normal or minipill?

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 03/01/2017 10:13

Aww Grumpy my friend told her DD that she was pregnant early doors as her DD kept climbing over her and jumping in her tummy etc - anyway her DD kept telling everyone "mummy's got a baby in her tummy" in Tesco and the like! So funny!

Having another saint like day - beans on toast brekkie, salad for lunch (pretty much all leaves!) and having Diet Coke chicken for tea. I expect the clothes will be hanging off me by the end of the week (a girl can dream!)

Hope you're all getting on OK.

confused I took my last Cerelle on 5th Dec to get my body back to normal, in hindsight probably should have stopped earlier! I did put DP on a sex ban as we hate condoms, but we did DTD on NYE (sober, as neither of us drink!) I'm not ovulating so unlikely for that to have done anything Grin
Hope you are feeling better about things now

TimeForTea Diet coke chicken as in the SW recipe? I like that!

TheGrumpySquirrel · 03/01/2017 10:29

Red how do you know you aren't ovulating? I was on same pill as you. Took last one 26 Dec. Have brown spotting today but not sure it is / will be an actual period.

Confused my DD is 11 and very responsible- i know I can trust her with this secret. She feels very special to be "in on it" as only the three of us know Smile. Not planning on telling family or work until I'm 20-25 weeks gone - if i can hide it that long.

Redpony1 · 03/01/2017 10:49

Grumpy I have secretly done some OPK's and always negative, last OPK i did was actually on NYE, not sure how accurate they are though?!
Oh & have i missed something, how far gone are you? Grin

I'm a bit Confused about the whole thing, i know very little about it all, i have been on period stopping contraception for most of my adult life. I don't physically know the signs of ovulating or anything like that. I have a lot to learn!!

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 03/01/2017 10:59

Don't worry pony I haven't got a clue either. I think using the OPKs is probably the easiest thing.

And yes - the SW recipe. Trying to stick to SW this month and see how I get on.

OP posts:
Redpony1 · 03/01/2017 11:08

Ohhh jealous! I need to dig the recipe out and make it now TimeforTea !!

My work has a small gym (I work at a uni) and they have just emailed saying they are offering 2x free 20min circuit training sessions a week before work for January. I have signed up. Sigh.

TheresAlwaysTimeForTea · 03/01/2017 11:32

Ah go for it Pony - at least it will be out of the way before work then. We have a gym in our apartment building (they all have gyms in Dubai) and I've literally been twice since we got here. I'm always knackered after work and I'm really not a morning person but think maybe 2017 is the year to change that!

OP posts:
Redpony1 · 03/01/2017 11:47

I keep forgetting you are in Dubai TimeForTea ! That sounds amazing, my DP would love that haha.

I have just seen a couple of PA's and they have signed up too so i won't be a loner at least.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 03/01/2017 12:41

Sorry for confusion pony I'm not pregnant - the secret is just that we are TTC! Don't want family speculating etc.

TheGrumpySquirrel · 03/01/2017 12:48

I've also been on the pill for most of my adult life so no idea of natural cycle really.. may get the fertility monitor out next month if still no AF.
