Hi all.

Have just called surgery for my blood results and the thyroid and blood count etc were fine, but the hormone test (i.e. prolactin etc) has come back as "borderline - refer to GP". I therefore have to wait until the GP can call me tomorrow.

So, I googled "prolactin" and was bombarded with a list of infertility websites as my results Great.

Not that any of you are doctors, but any help please from your experiences? I was feeling low at the start of the day and now am feeling myself go down even further. sad

help please x

tatatetelle · 02/11/2016 16:38

Hey Summer, the very little I know I learned today, I got results from by blood test today too and have a prolactine of 808, which is high too (progesterone levels of 60). Do you know how much yours is?

The Dr I spoke to told me a couple of things which I hope can help 1) under a level of 1000 it's high but not worrying as such - 1000 and beyond is cause for closer monitoring. 2) is that levels can skyrock because of a number of things, one is pregnancy, but others can be stress or fatigue, so don't panic there might be a number of reasons why yours were high on that day.

Because Prolactine is the gland in the brain that triggers ovulation (and lactation and a lot of other things) it's no surprise you landed on loads of infertility sites, it doesn't mean any of it applies to you.

I hope you can see your GP soon!! Hope this helped xxx

Spindle85 · 02/11/2016 17:06

Hi Summer and Tata
I also got a high prolactin result of 820 and was told a similar thing by GP to you Tata - ie levels under 1000 not worrying. She thought mine could be elevated due to stress and got me to have a retest a couple of months later.
It went down to 540 which is still just over the maximum normal level of 500 but apparently not significant and the fact that it has decreased is 'reassuring'. Apparently it should not be interfering with ttc/periods at this level... However a year after coming off the pill and not a squeak of a bfp and I do wonder about this..
Just FYI summer having googled extensively about this - America uses a different measurement for prolactin so values cited on US forums and websites aren't directly comparable... Mine seemed a LOT higher until I realised this!

MouseLove · 02/11/2016 17:19

Probably a weird thing to say but this afternoon I keep getting weird things in my tummy. Like I've got my phone in my pocket and it's vibrating.... only I don't have my phone in my pocket. Jeeze I've just read that back and I sound crazy hahahaha.

SummerHopin · 03/11/2016 12:27

Thanks tata and spindle for your messages.

So a bit of a false alarm it seems! The GP called this morning and my prolactin is 245.......erm, what?! She said that the receptionist must have read the results wrong it was the testosterone that was slightly high not the prolactin! classic!

So, good news on the prolactin front (although she said the same as both of you that they are only really concerned if it is over 1000) and she said that the increased testosterone is probably forcing out the progesterone which is what basically causes periods. This is why my periods have become so irregular. (sorry if that is common knowledge to some of you, but its new to me so I thought I'd add it in case it helped anyone else)

Am really pleased to have an answer. I'm going to start on some progesterone pills which should produce a bleed, and then we can go from there.

Will be mindful of american sites as well thanks for the tip spindle. :)

tatatetelle · 03/11/2016 16:40

Oh it's classic Summer! The progesterone is definitely going to help with your cycle. That's what they gave me before I started Clomid. Are you temping to track the ovulation?

Mouse that's pretty weird indeed..!

MouseLove · 03/11/2016 17:52

Think it was IBS style symptoms I was having yesterday. CD50 tomorrow. I'm fed up of waiting already. It's the limbo. The uncertainty that the pill could have made me infertile thats driving me mad in small random moments. Most of the time I don't even think about it. Maybe I need a MN break. Sad

Seven0fNine · 04/11/2016 08:43

Mouse my first cycle off the pill was 92 days. I have never been more relieved than when af came. Although she was only very light when she did. The pill hasn't made you infertile. It just takes time for everything to get going again. I started off totally obsessed and then pretty much gave up by cd50 but then I just put it to the back of my mind and enjoyed dtd, not taking my pill and chatting to you lovely ladies and eventually she showed up when I least expected it. I'm expecting another long cycle this month but hopefully it will be a bit shorter than the last although knowing my luck it will be longer!
Keep going my lovely x

LuciBee231015 · 04/11/2016 14:05

I got to cd52 with my first cycle off the pill. They are always long the first ones! I got slightly obsessed with MN and googling everything as well, it takes over doesn't it!

SummerHopin · 04/11/2016 14:19

HI mouse, I know exactly what you mean about the worry of what the pill has done after all these years!

If it makes you feel any easier, I went to see a gynae consultant recently and the way he explained it is that the pill introduces hormones to your body that you havent had to make yourself, so your ovaries after a while literally get lazy and hibernate because they are not needed to do what are supposed to. Coming off the pill means those additional hormones are not there anymore so the ovaries need to wake up and get going on their own - and quite simply, some take longer to wake up than others!

That might sound a little simple, but I felt very assured by him saying that as I think I thought that my cycles etc would simply spring into action once I had stopped the pill. When they didnt I was really concerned, but now I am much more settled knowing that there is often nothing wrong at all, it just takes a while to get the ovaries cooking again :)

Hope that gives you a bit of comfort x

Mummyme87 · 04/11/2016 17:18

I have a DS who is 2y4m and looking to TTC. I am going to finish this cycle of pill (microgynon) which will be Monday evening and then go pill free. I conceived whilst on the pill last time (messed up a cycle whilst on holiday and a line appeared when I poas 🙈) so hoping it will be that easy again. Due to family events out of the country I don't want to conceive immediately after coming off the pill, December would be perfect (I know this is wishful thinking).

looby1304 · 04/11/2016 19:02

Just checking in. I've had a cycle free from symptom spotting and I'm feeling a lot more relaxed than I was this time last month! I reckon I'm about 8dpo, AF due this time next week if this cycle is the same as last. I think I've judged ov about right - some symptoms (like loads of ewcm) I just couldn't ignore!

MouseLove · 04/11/2016 19:22

Summer thank you. That's exactly what I needed to hear. I'm 33 at the end of the month and those thoughts are creeping in more and more. It's hard to wash them away because you never think you'll be in this position. I almost feel hard done by when I hear about people coming off the pill, having a withdrawal bleed and then AF comes as normal. I've had nothing. Not even a little spotting.

But I'm still positive. Realistic and have accepted the fact I won't be pregnant this year. I'm ok with it.

tatatetelle · 05/11/2016 07:24

So I caved and tested yesterday morning....and got a clear bfp 😊 Round 1 of clomid woohoo!! Let's hope it's a sticky one!

MrsG280516 · 05/11/2016 07:53

Congratulations tata!

Seven0fNine · 05/11/2016 08:26

Oooh congratulations tata x

Lovechild2016 · 05/11/2016 08:46

Hi everyone,
I'm new to MN after deciding we wanted to ttc and thought I had better get involved rather than just stalking the forum like a weirdo. I am almost 32, took last bcp on 2/10/16 (it was microgynon), had withdrawal bleed (stupidly didn't write it down), 6/10, that settled then had spotting week later. I then had really bad nausea 26-27/10 then what I think after much internet searching was EWCM late on 27/10 that lasted about 24hrs (but could this have been mucus plug from BCP. Nothing since except lots of money wasted on BNF. It sounds like everyone has a variable experience coming off the BCP, stupidly I had thought it would be a case of stop it then get pregnant now I'm freaking out! I suppose I just have to wait for AF! Good luck to all of you Smile

MouseLove · 05/11/2016 09:02

Tata!!!!! Yay!!!! Congratulations!

Lovechild - don't worry. Let your body have a few cycles to regulate. I was on mycrogynon for 11 years with a regular like clockwork withdrawal bleed every month. It's not a proper period. Then from sept 2015-2016 I was on cerelle and had no bleeds. I've still not had my withdrawal or anything at CD51 today so since you had a withdrawal let your body have a natural period first. X

Tommygirl10 · 05/11/2016 09:09

Congratulations Tata 😊

And welcome Love 😊

Well Luci I have my AC ready to take when AF makes an appearance tomorrow. Hope everyone is enjoying the ttc/bfps as much as possible 😊 Xx

MrsG280516 · 05/11/2016 09:20

Hi Lovechild everyone is different. I came off microgynon early October (took my last pill 4/10) then got my withdrawal bleed on 8/10. I then monitored my temperature and used OPKs so confirmed that I ovulated 17 days later. Just took a pregnancy test (12 days after ovulation) and it's negative this month so we weren't first time lucky! However around ovulation time I lost a lot of mucus which was a result of being on the pill, so I think that has hindered us this month. Hopefully we'll have a better chance next month Smile

Lovechild2016 · 05/11/2016 09:36

Thanks everyone! MrsG we are in a very similar boat!- you're not out yet surely? Could still be a bit early... ?

I sort of want AF to arrive then i will have more of an idea about my cycle and I can start measuring temps and using OPK. We have some inconveniently timed family weddings abroad in the late summer/early Autumn next year so need to decide whether to have a break from ttc if it doesn't happen in the next month. As my OH says though, there will always be something in the way and i think I'll be too paranoid to stop trying incase I miss my lucky month! X

LuciBee231015 · 05/11/2016 10:12

Oh Tommy let us know how you get on with the AC. I took 2 tablets every morning until I got my positive opk.

I had the ones in the green and white packet from Amazon

Tommygirl10 · 05/11/2016 12:14

I will do Luci. I'm actually quite excited about it tbh 😊 I'm hoping it brings us more success, and makes me extra fertile or something lol. So did you take 2000mg every day? Because I think I have the same ones and they are 1000mg. How is pregnancy so far? X

MouseLove · 05/11/2016 13:37

I'm sat here absolutely balling my eyes out. I meant serious body chugging balling my eyes out. I'm so happy. I think AF finally arrived.

I have a little belly ache and a little red on wiping. DH has gone out for his hair cut so I'm home alone grinning like a Cheshire Cat. I really hope it comes in full effect, I don't care, I need it. CD51 might just have turned into CD1. Please keep your FX for me. X Smile

Mummyme87 · 05/11/2016 14:23

FX mouselove. Will be fab news for you
