Another lurker here... Feeling sad that I've moved from lurking on the 35+ thread to this one now I'm 40. TTC for a while now. Potential mc in March. Went to a fertility clinic last year and all looked more than good. I bet things have become worse since then. Feeling that clock ticking...

citybumpkin · 19/10/2016 18:50

Where did the end of my post go? Its far easier to lurk! Greenglass sorry to hear your news

Gizmojo · 19/10/2016 19:21

Thanks, Pies - very encouraging to hear about people having success :) And good to hear you've been having some fun - it does all get a bit 'functional' sometimes, doesn't it?!! Do you mind me asking if you needed any treatment/help to conceive DS at 42? I don't know if we should be looking into treatment, clomid or whatever or whether to just 'wait and see' and if so how long for. We had some testing and they said there was no reason other than age that we shouldn't conceive but to go back in six months if we hadn't. Not sure where the mc leaves us in terms of that, as it was within that six months.

ababsurdum · 19/10/2016 19:47

Bloop fingers crossed for a bfp when you get back. Have a lovely few days away.

Pies glad you've enjoyed some stress free dtd. Hopefully the r&r will help with another bfp. Has your cycle settled down?

Welcome citybumpkin. Do they bin you off the 35+ thread when you turn 40? Wink. I'm sorry for your mc Flowers, fingers crossed you get a sticky one soon.

citybumpkin · 19/10/2016 19:58

Haha abab! Not binned. Just felt uncomfortable and thought I should act my age for once. Thanks for the good wishes. Onwards and inwards!

ababsurdum · 19/10/2016 20:01

Welcome too Gizmojo. I'm sorry for your mmc Flowers. I had one of those exactly a year ago. Successful scan at 7 weeks and then the Harmony scan at 10 weeks showed the baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks. It's very hard.

I saw a consultant a few months after I began ttc and was 40. His advice was to try for a fixed period, say 6-12 months, and then move straight to ivf as other procedures were less successful and obviously time was of the essence. We tried for a year with nothing and then I had a private round of ivf when I turned 41- we didn't bother with any investigations other than AMH and semen analysis. The ivf went well but was unsuccessful, amazingly I conceived my ds the very next cycle. So my advice would be to decide how long you're going to try naturally for and investigate what your next step is if you're unsuccessful. Clomid may help if you have ovulation issues but if you're ovulating then it perhaps won't. I'm no expert though so either speak to your gp or see a private consultant. Wishing you lots of luck!

Hello new peeps!

Well my wilderness isn't really wilderness. We (royal variety) have all modcons (except a local shop). No one else arriving until Friday so it's me and the internet for company until then. Yay for no humans

IAteSomeofthePies · 20/10/2016 10:24

Enjoy the silence today, Bloop! (As it's the 40+ thread people will probably now have Depeche Mode running through their head Smile)

Ababs I'm not sure what's going on with my cycle, but I did get a negative pregnancy test this morning. I have an appt to go back to the epu next week if no bfn before then, so this is good news. I last tested a few days ago and it was a faint positive.

City hope this thread brings you good luck.

gizmojo I didn't need any interventions for DS. I had a mc a few cycles before I was pregnant with him, and after that I took dhea and CoQ10. But I have no idea if they worked and I only took them for about a cycle and a half, which is less than the 'minimum' that all the internet articles so authoritatively state for improving egg quality. I think it was a lucky egg.

MrFuzzyGreen · 20/10/2016 10:41

God. I'm going to have that Depeche Mode song in my head all day now. Thanks for the ear worm Pies!!! After my mmc I carried on getting +hpts for about 2 weeks. AF arrived 3 weeks after the last +.

Good luck Bloop. It would drive me crazy not testing after a possible squinter! Kudos!

ababsurdum · 20/10/2016 11:34

Pies I got a -ve hpt 3 weeks after I passed the pregnancy and then AF 3 1/2 weeks later. I had a lot of spotting and breakthrough bleeding for a few cycles afterwards then it stopped. Hopefully things will get back to normal fast for you.

Fuzzy how are things going for you?

This time last year I was in having my medical management. It was grim and didn't work. A wasted, long, painful day away from my ds. I can't believe it's been a year already. 8 dpo today but not expecting anything this cycle.

Sorry ababs. Horrible memories. Flowers

I'm plodding on. Building up to the anniversary of my boy's death on 5th Nov. Hating all the Halloween stuff. This pic is us having fun last year. He was dressed as a spider. Can't believe he doesn't have any more Sad Going in for my egg retrieval tomorrow, so trying to stay focused on that for now x

40+ ttc: the one where we all get knocked up!
wiltingfast · 20/10/2016 13:20

Oh fuzzy. He looks so joyful. You must miss him every moment. x

ababsurdum · 20/10/2016 14:25

Fuzzy Flowers. Bonfire night will never be the same again for you. I'm so sorry.

They are horrible memories but you keep things in perspective for me as well as friends of ours who have been trying for their first for four years with no luck despite three rounds of ivf. I am lucky whatever happens.

I hope egg retrieval goes ok. I'm sure it will be a but uncomfortable but, as you say, you've been through worse. I had mine under a GA as one of my ovaries was difficult to get to. I was quite pleased about that actually even though it did cost about £500 extra!

OP posts:
MrFuzzyGreen · 20/10/2016 14:59

Thanks folks Brew

ababs one of my ovaries is in a funny place. It's been pushed down by a fibroid behind my womb. I'm going to talk to the anaesthetist in the morning because I really think I'd prefer a GA. I've had sedation before and, well, put it this way, I was still sitting up watching the film 'Castaway' on the ward telly an hour later, much to the nurses surprise! If they don't come out with an elephant gun, I'm going to need a GA!

Gizmojo · 20/10/2016 15:24

Oh Fuzzy what a beautiful boy Flowers Hope all goes well with the egg retrieval. I don't blame you for going for GA. I did laugh when you talked about the elephant gun! Grin

Thanks for the info Pies - I've never heard of dhea or CoQ10 - I'm really a bit clueless about all this!! Been looking them up though and sounds worth a try perhaps.

Sounds like it's a difficult time of year for you too, ababs Flowers In many ways I'm grateful I didn't have medical management (though a friend 'helpfully' said that it's better as it cleans the womb up or something), it sounds hard and especially if it didn't work for you.

MrFuzzyGreen · 20/10/2016 15:50

Gizmojo have you read 'It starts with the egg'? I started taking CoQ10 after I read that. I haven't taken DHEA as it's only recommended if you have diminished ovarian reserve, and I hadn't had mine tested. I might try it in future though. It's not for everyone, esp PCOS.

Bloopbleep · 20/10/2016 17:20

fuzzy much love coming your way.

Argh pies I've now have that tune in my head (but I absolutely love Depeche mode!)m

Gizmojo - I love ubiquinol which is what coq10 turns into. Did sweet fa for my reproductive system but I felt great and energised taking it. It's expensive tho.

Anyway a random question I posed on the secondary fertility threat I thought was worth asking here too (tho I may have asked before) - how do you find out if your lining is insufficient and what can be done (medically if nec) to improve it?
With these women in their 50s having IVF I'm assuming they need some artificial help in that department.

Bloopbleep · 20/10/2016 17:21

Oh and to update I'm sitting beside an open fire and haven't moved from it all day. I could live like this :) /gloat

wiltingfast · 20/10/2016 17:44

oh lucky you Bloop, I've had a flu jab and feel fluey, and that is exactly where I'd like to be.

Plus my mc seems to re-erupted. Is that normal? ...Probably is the usual answer I find Sad

Don't know if the supplements I've started taking with help the baby making efforts but I generally do feel a LOT more energized on them.

citybumpkin · 20/10/2016 18:54

Thanks pies. I hope this thread brings us all some luck!

I cannot express how sorry I feel for your loss fuzzy. I know nothing can really take the pain away but just know that there are many here (and elsewhere) who are only too ready to hand hold Flowers

I think I'm trying too hard by taking too many supplements (not going to embarrass myself with the list here). I read too many forums/threads full of advice and you think feck it, why not take them all.

AF started today. 5 days late. I've been late for the past 6 months or so but prior to that reasonably regular. WTF is going on?

furryminkymoo · 20/10/2016 21:39

I was referred to the early pregnancy unit as my cycles were chaotic and needed to determine how many weeks I am. They prescribed soluble aspirin and a large dose of folic acid, I hadn't realised that taking aspirin was encouraged to improve blood flow, is this normal? Or because I am over 40?

Gizmojo · 21/10/2016 09:32

Furryminkymoo I have read that before and in fact I asked my doctor if I should take it when I got pregnant but he said I didn't need it (only because it was the first time I'd been pregnant though, I think).

Fuzzy I haven't read that, no. I've just got a copy though so thanks for the recommendation! My AMH is pretty reasonable for my age - we got tested earlier this year - so perhaps I should try just the CoQ10 too. Like you, Citybumpkin I guess it can't hurt!

Clara101 · 21/10/2016 13:08

Fuzzy, also love your picture... Amazed by your holding it together ness and the positivity you bring to this thread.. That is a true tribute to Billy-Joe. We are all wishing for his little brother or sister to appear soonest and will be thinking of you especially coming days....

Ps
Now I'd like make many mumsnetty flowers appear but don't actually know how to do that!!

IAteSomeofthePies · 21/10/2016 15:03

Sorry/ not sorry for the ear worm. I've given you all the gift of a D-Mode flashback!

ababs sorry for the medical management anniversary. I hope you get some happy news this cycle.

Hope the egg retrieval goes okay, Fuzzy. I'd opt for the expensive no pain option. Surely that is the definition of money well spent. Thinking of you in the run up to such a sad anniversary. Flowers (Clara on my phone you tap the little happy face at the bottom left and emoji options come up.)

furryminkmoo in my successful pregnancy I was prescribed low dose aspirin and high dose folic acid.

Sorry for AF, city and the feeling fluey, wilting.

I'm jealous of that open fire, Bloop. You remind me that we really must get our fireplace sorted for winter.

What a lot you all know about your reproductive systems! Do you ever stop to wonder at it? You know you have ovaries in funny places. That is kind of amazing. I know just about nothing. I really should get around to some tests. I have no idea if my egg reserve was low. I was very much in a f@@& this all spirit post miscarriage when I threw dhea and coq10 at my system.

citybumpkin · 21/10/2016 15:51

I would get some tests done pies so you know where you stand. I was flapping more before I had tests done last year (all better than average for my age. However, its now a year on and I'm back in flap mode. Might get them done again. I'm not opting for DHEA as I think my reserve is okay (AMH last year was 26.6).

AF does mean a sneaky wine at lunch time. Small consolation though.
