latenight good luck with your iui! I'm happy you will have the good doctor.

shoes that's fantastic news about your appointment. I hope the next week flies by for you.

INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2016 12:59

Late - great news that you've got your positive OPK Smile Good luck for your IUI tomorrow!

Don't worry about supplements; the only ones that are really important are the folic acid (though you would be better off with folate) and vitamin D.

INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2016 13:03

I've been doing a pregnancy tests experiment over the past few days, comparing the sensitivity of the tests.

All of these are 'early' tests, supposedly sensitive to 10mlu, so they should be as sensitive as each other.

The blue ones are the absolute internet cheapies called 'One Step'

Then the middle ones in each set of three are Cassanovum and the top ones obviously FRER.

All three of the lower tests were dipped in the same pot of wee this morning, yet you can barely see a line on the One Step.

Latenightreader · 01/09/2016 13:44

That's really interesting to see. I have the One Step tests (about £3 for 15 I think!) and bought the Boots digital last month, but it looks like I might invest in some FRERs...

Karendvm · 01/09/2016 13:53

Love seeing all those lines shoes!

INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2016 14:08

Sorry Kwick I've just realised I missed your folate question.

I've been taking Solgar brand Folate because it's very pure (I've got various food allergies which make finding suitable supplements a bit of a nightmare).

They only seem to go up to 1000mcg, but you could presumably take five of them. My local health food shop stocks the Solgar range. You might want to do a bit of your own research because it's possible that you'd need less folate than you do folic acid because folate is more readily absorbed.

Bell & Croydon, a huge posh pharmacy on Wigmore Street (perhaps ten minutes walk from your clinic), stock all of this sort of stuff and there are a couple of very knowledgable staff there who can advise. It's

Lovelyholiday · 01/09/2016 15:06

shoes look at all those lovely pink lines.....
Great news re your appointment, so excited for you! Have you figured out an EDD yet?

Late Good luck for tomorrow, try to relax and un tense your uterus, take some relaxing deep breaths before your appointment.

Im wondering now if I should look into taking folate rather that multi vitamins, or am I too late now?

kwick · 01/09/2016 18:31

late I was actually considering, should I be so lucky as to get a bfp, to only continue with folic acid, vitamin D, vit E, vit C and vit b complex... At the mo I also chuck in a "trying for a baby supplement"....
Good luck for IUI - your womble will be grand Grin

shoes yay for appointment!!
I love your science experiment... So are you saying best avoid internet cheapies and stick to FRERs Wink?
Thanks for folate advice. I LOVE John Bell & Croydon... But will try somewhere more local as knowing my beauty product addiction I will likely buy up the place

No news from clinic today so still on alert for ET tomorrow. Crinone & cyclogest side effects are in full force. So glad I did rest up yesterday... I have been exhausted today at work.

OP posts:
INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2016 18:47

Kwick - You were right re FRERs! There, I said it Wink

But I'm still proud of myself for having only bought two FRERs this cycle. My bank balance is grateful anyway Grin

Will you go in first thing for your ET, or do you wait for a call?

Lovely - The EDD is early May Smile

How many weeks are you now? 6? You could switch to Folate and take Vitamin D separately (It is NHS guidelines now that all pregnant ladies should also be taking Vit D) but if you've been happy with your multi-vitamin (which one is it?) then you could just continue with it as long as it has 400 units of folic acid and a decent dose of Vitamin D, and no Vitamin A (unless in the form of Beta-carotene which is ok).

pickle162 · 01/09/2016 18:51

late hope all shoes well tomorrow, will be thinking of you.
And you kwick hope egg transfer goes okStar

Karendvm · 01/09/2016 19:04

shoes that's interesting about the vitamin D. just started it and now I'm glad I did.

Lovelyholiday · 01/09/2016 19:39

Shoes Im currently taking an extra vitamin d supplement on top of vitabiotics pregnacare, so far so good as no horrendous symptoms have kicked in as yet. I have ordered folate 800mg ......Do i just take one a day? What is the recommended dose?

Im 5 weeks with an EDD from egg collection of may 3rd (I dont think you are too far behind me ;)
Kwick I bet you cant wait to get little egg back on bored!! Good luck

kwick · 01/09/2016 20:02

Why the fcuk can't you get Folate 5mg online? I find this so bloody frustrating. Taking 5 mega tablets a day just seems tough when I can get a small little 5mg folic acid tablet... How do I know if I am assimilating it?

shoes I may have gone a bit overboard with FRER purchasing but I did have some vouchers...

They usually do ET in the afternoon - they have to give me at least 2 hours notice as I have to stick a suppository up my jacksie.... Good job I remembered to go through my meds again this evening!

Oh and shoes I got some great advice about administering the Clexane if you are interested.

I guess I really should try and connect my new Sky box tonight as I will not want to exert myself for the next few days but a) I am very lazy and b) it seems whenever I try and do something technical EVERYTHING goes wrong. Should I just bite the bullet and get a Task Rabbit in? ☺️

May is such a nice month to have a baby....

OP posts:
pickle162 · 01/09/2016 20:20

kwick stern look- do your sky box but not this second as masterchef oz is taping!!!( Did you watch yesterday with who won the last apron! I was very happy!) it is easy peasey to set up I promise, I did mine when I moved a couple of years ago just plug the wires in and hey presto! Save those penny's for babies not task bunnies :)

INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2016 21:22

Kwick - I knew I had a problem of some description with folic acid because of the effect it had on my stomach, but I don't know if that was something else in the tablet (the binding agent) that disagreed with me (so it might not be that I wasn't metabolising it). But it made sense to me to just change to folate which is the natural, definitely absorbable version. Apparently only 1 in 4 people can't process folic acid, so odds are that you're ok with it.

Lovely - The standard recommended dose of folic acid or folate is 400mcg, which is what I'm taking, but 800 should be fine given that many women (Kwick included!) are on 5000mcg.

Kwick - I'm sure you can sort out your Sky Box. There's bound to be a step by step guide in the box. I didn't have a TV for ten years but recently got one and a Now TV box. I was convinced I would have issues setting it all up, but I got it working really easily thanks to very basic instructions in the box!

INeedNewShoes · 01/09/2016 21:23

Kwick - Any tips on the Clexane will be gratefully received. I had it once before when I had a broken foot but I only had to use it for two weeks. I imagine that it'll be a lot worse injecting myself over a longer period of time.

kwick · 02/09/2016 07:49

pickle I still have not seen the last apron episode - tonight! The thing is to unplug I have to find the socket - which requires moving loads of stuff... I did not do it

shoes so for Clexane you inject in stomach - grab some fat (real easy for we as I am well covered), put the needle in with the blunt but facing down, needle at 90 degrees, inject, pull out needle, let go of fat, DO NOT RUB!!!

What a God awful night - tossing and turning. Did not help that I realised at about 2am that I put cyclogest up my fanjo and this will probably make ET harder... Had nightmares about that rest of night. Have an upset stomach and all my wrinkles have suddenly decided to show up all at once!!! Angry
I need to just calm myself down.

late best if luck!

Hope all goes well today kwick and late, let us know how you get on xxFlowers

INeedNewShoes · 02/09/2016 08:07

Sounds like a rough night Kwick. Try to look after yourself. Drink plenty of water and have a plain breakfast (white toast?) to settle your stomach.

Hopefully it's just all tied in with IVF anxiety and things will settle once you've heard from the clinic.

Distraction might help! Do you have to work this morning? If not, maybe find a nice film to watch.

Thinking of you today Flowers

INeedNewShoes · 02/09/2016 08:56

Late - Good luck with your IUI today. Hopefully you can go in feeling positive knowing that your good doctor will be doing the IUI Smile

Remember that a long exhale does wonders for keeping calm and for dealing with anything that's uncomfortable.

Looking forward to hearing that it's all gone well later on Smile

Karendvm · 02/09/2016 12:28

late good luck with today. I hope everything goes smoothly for you.

kwick I hope it goes well/has gone well. Not sleeping really sucks. I hope it's just stress and that once the transfer is over you get lots of good rest this weekend.

It's an exciting Friday! Hope everyone else is well. X

kwick · 02/09/2016 16:28

shoes I had cayenne pepper for breakfast...will force feed myself again when I get home Hmm

So the deed is done & I have the pictures to prove it!! Off home to start 2ww action plan:

  • Pineapple including core for next 5 days
  • laugh a lot
  • keep feet and kidneys warm
  • PMA, PMA, PMA
  • cayenne pepper
  • what am I missing?

Embryologist had a right laugh when I put my One Direction on...

late how did it go?

OP posts:
INeedNewShoes · 02/09/2016 17:14

Great news Kwick Smile I'm so pleased it went well.

The things I did were:
Plenty of water
Try to get 8 hours' sleep a night
Eggs
Avocados
Cayenne Pepper
General good intake of veg
Two portions of fish a week
Two portions of oily fish a week
Chocolate (because it makes me happy Grin )
After the initial rest, I made sure I was as active as usual in terms of walking

It has been eerily quiet on here today – I've been wondering how you and Late have been getting on all day!

pickle162 · 02/09/2016 17:21

Glad all went ok kwick. One direction Grini think I would have Disney songs (altho find very hard not to sing along!) hope you are also planning some rest and chilling in that too :) (& catching up on masterchef lol)

late I hope you got on ok this time with the lovely consultant

kwick · 02/09/2016 17:33

Thanks shoes I will add all these to the list Grin

pickle umm I was singing along... And as I said to the Australian embryologist when he started laughing was "and your point is?"

So has Mastercgef changed its HQ? And phew what a relief Miles made it through - I found the other two intensely irritating! On to last night's episode.
