There wasn't any more room for moaning with all those grinny smilies's eyes following me around the room.

Suspected (my own self-diagnosis) perimenopause, anyone?

Sorry im crashing again Janus i had a hsg (hypestersalpinogram) it involves a thin like catheter being inserted into your vag to check your tubes are ok,its more uncomforatable than painful try not to tense up ( i know very difficult in that situation) for me it was more emotional than anything else, i had mild bleeding after and periody type pains i went hope took some strong painkillers hot water bottle on my belly and the ret of the day of work.Be kind to yourself as it can be upsetting.
Girls ive left some bucks fizz and thorntons chockoes on the table for you.
Debbsy leaves quietly. xx

Janus · 05/02/2007 22:48

Ah Debbsy, you can crash whenever you like!!
Thanks for the info, I don't think I'll find it emotionally upsetting (it's been 15 months since my m/c and I get upset about that but don't think I'll be upset about science-y thing) but more worried about outcome iykwim. Did they find anything with yours?? Maybe I'll stick my head way in the sand and not think about it until this time next week when it'll be all over!

Debbsyandson · 05/02/2007 22:53

No they didnt we had been trying for about the same i think. But they do say it increases your chances though as it cleans your tubes out, known it work for plenty of people on here.Good luck.

Littlefish · 06/02/2007 06:56

Hi Janus, I've had one too. As Debsy says, it's uncomfortable, but not unbearable. I took nurofen before I went which seemed to help. Also, try and take lots of deep breaths while they are doing it. The more relaxed you are (impossible really I know!), the easier it is for you.

Remember to take a sanitary pad to put in your knickers afterwards as the dye can leak out (sorry if tmi!). They might give you one, but it will be like a brick and you will walk like John Wayne .

Hope it goes ok.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 06/02/2007 07:09

Hi

I had a HSG, its a useful test to have done as it can give information not easily accessible by other methods (like a lap operation for instance). Its a tubal x-ray. Deformities inside the tube can only be seen on x-ray.

The procedure should not cause any undue pain providing the dye is injected really slowly. The person should be able to tell you at the time whether your tubes are patent (open). I was given a couple of painkillers prior to having this done and that helped. Do take your own sanitary protection along, that dye does leak out afterwards.

Impatience · 06/02/2007 08:25

Hi Janus. I had an HSG too. The thin tube goes through the cervix into the uterus, and then they inject the dye. It's like having a smear, in that you lie on a table and someone inserts a speculum, and peers up your vagina. I found it much less physically uncomfortable than a smear and the two IUIs I had. (When I was having the insemination it was so painful, and the nurse was complaining about my wonky cervix, that I wanted to tell her to go and get the lovely HSG ladies who put that tube up with no trouble!) Anyway, I am of the type who watches an injection go in etc, so I was fascinated by the x-ray shots that clearly showed my uterus and tubes. It's really interesting. My uterus is over to one side, which is apparantly quite common and not a problem, but it just looked so odd. And I felt so kindly toward it. Remember that this was before I started t/ftc, they were just checking everything was clear in order to give me the goahead for insemination. I think if I saw my reproductive organs on a screen now I might start getting quite aggressive!

beansprout · 06/02/2007 08:52

Good luck with the HSG Janus, hope it goes well. What day is it?

Duchesse - how is that thumb?!

duchesse · 06/02/2007 10:05

Even worse this morning, Beansprout, which kind of scuppers our Thelma and Louise plans. I mean, I doubt I could even hold a revolver at the moment.

OP posts:
beansprout · 06/02/2007 10:49

That's a shame. Surely we can find some sort of weaponry that doesn't require the use of the opposable thumb?

Does that mean I get first dibs on Colin? He's been in the boot all night now, I feel we should at least let him out for a bit of fresh air.

feedmenow · 06/02/2007 12:15

I wouldn't mind having a go with Brad Pitts "weapon" [win]

feedmenow · 06/02/2007 12:16

That wasn't meant to be [win], it was meant to be !!

sideways · 06/02/2007 13:14

oh ffs, am I the only person really annoyed by that thread asking if 30 is too old to have a baby?

Try being 40 and ftc love, then you can think about age .

No offence meant to you spring chickens on this thread btw

duchesse · 06/02/2007 13:32

Now what a smug little thread that sounds like! Given that average age for first time mothers is nudging 30 now, I wonder who is likely to have created that one? Not somebody who'd waited to get settled into a career, I'll wager.

Just one of the reasons I never venture far from here on Mumsnet...

OP posts:
duchesse · 06/02/2007 13:34

ps: I had my first three in my twenties, but mainly because I am a hopeless underachiever with no career to my name.

In an ideal world we wouldn't have to fight for our right to stay in the labour market despite our inconvenient propensity to be the ones doing the duplication.

OP posts:
Cryptonomicon · 06/02/2007 13:40

I haven't looked at any other threads for days in case my rage spills over. People can be so insensitive. I frequent another forum with a babytalk board an I just saw another 'I can't believe it, I am pregnant after the first month of trying' post - there are numerous posts on there about people struggling etc, why do they have to be so smug about it? Grrrrrr.

feedmenow · 06/02/2007 13:45

Can't we back track to talking about Brad Pitts weapon?????????
The 30 year old "too old for no. 3" is probably from the Isle of Sheppey where anyone over 18 is considered old to be pro-creating!! (Sorry if any of you are Isle of Sheppey-ites!!)

beansprout · 06/02/2007 13:47

I couldn't get past my initial response of, "are you taking the p*ss?" so decided it was probably best that I didn't post on that thread.

If you really need the ask the question, then frankly, I don't want to talk to you, stupid.

duchesse · 06/02/2007 13:49

Ooh, I don't know, Feedme. It could be Aldershot/Cove/Farnborough. I once sat through a PHSE lesson during my teacher training with a bunch of yr 8s (12/13 yr olds) They went on and on about wanting to have sex asap etc.

I asked as a matter of interest how old their parents were. Result: mostly 27-30.

Draw your own conclusions.

OP posts:
sideways · 06/02/2007 13:53

"If you really need the ask the question, then frankly, I don't want to talk to you, stupid." - exactly my feeling. Has the woman ever spend any time on Mn? If so, she would know that there are LOADS of women on here who have babies in their 30s and 40s.

Oh well, I think I'd better stay in the hut for the rest of the afternoon, before I upset myself too much to function.

Vodka anyone?

feedmenow · 06/02/2007 14:01

Duchesse, I had no idea that that part of the world was like that! Imagine being 30 and already having a teenage child! I think I would feel like I was "playing" at being a grown up!
Anyway, back to Brad Pitts weapon........

duchesse · 06/02/2007 14:19

Feedme- exactly. You may well imagine that the parents themselves had a tenuous grasp on what we see as standard education- such as the ability to read, write and add two two-digit numbers together in shops. The parents seemed very keen that their children should not do better than they had at school. People aways assume the Hampshire/Surrey/Berkshire might be full of rich, over-schooled people, but nothing could be further from the truth.

Catbabymummy · 06/02/2007 15:08

Ype I'm in agreement, here I am nearly 32 and ttc my first. BTW I can conceive at the drop of a hat, unless I just got really lucky, just had some trouble persuading my little bean to stick with me
Avoiding any threads with scans, I should have had my dating scan today and showing everyone my pic of mini-me

duchesse · 06/02/2007 15:29

Wait a minute...

Raised temperature

Headache

Feeling like shit

Yes!! I've

got a cold...

OP posts:
Impatience · 06/02/2007 16:15

I'll have a vodka, thanks. Ditto all that's said about gormless 30 yr old. Ditto also comments about Surrey! I grew up there then fled north. The hipocracy really gets my goat.

I did venture into another thread today, and it backfired. Someone was asking about OPK lines and I wanted to reassure her that they don't always show a clear positive, then I was told that my confidence I am ovulating (because of all my various signs plus temp hike) are misplaced! Apparantly you can still get a temp hike without releasing an egg. So now I have NO idea what my body does. Such a shame: she didn't mean to floor me in this way, but all I can do is now drink virtual 70% proof in here with you gals. Should have known better.

And I also have a stinky cold, with a ton of work to get done today and tomorrow. crap crap crap.

sideways · 06/02/2007 16:20

Here's a large one Impatience.

Maybe we should only be allowed one outing from the Hut each per week.

Been wondering how you were doing.
