Good morning ladies. I saw this quote and had to share

"Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life.

Tip toe if you must, but take the step. "

Awh, that's lovely Cloud - Thanks for that. x

What a lovely quote cloud thanks for sharing!!!

Just left home, in cab going to st pancras to take eurostar to paris... My first work trip in what feels like ages!!!!

shoes very good going on ticking boxes! I have pineapple with me for next 2 days (as well as injections) Grin

Cloudburn · 09/03/2016 17:48

I really liked it (so much in fact I apparently posted it twice! Wink)

Caution and Kwick I bought one pack of ClearBlue digital (I don't trust myself to interpret a cross or a line!!) and one cheapie Boots brand (though turns out not so cheap - only one test per box!). Will probably be going back for more! ;)

Kwick I hope you have a safe and enjoyable trip!

Shoes How are you feeling today? Any better, or still tired and a bit rubbish? (I hope it's the former!)

I have to admit I'm feeling pretty shattered today, kinda like I'm drugged. I'd thought my body was getting used to all the extra progesterone but possibly not. Of course I also went for a swim for the first time in about six weeks (shocking). Only lasted 10 minutes mind, so not sure it counts! Felt pretty exhausted afterwards though which I'm not used to. I think I just need to get more sleep.

How are the rest of you ladies feeling?

booboo16 · 09/03/2016 18:27

Hey! Progesterone makes me so so tired! I could literally sleep forget and ever! I have to test every month, so I usually only use IC's! The time I had a chemical pregnancy, it clearly showed up on an IC test. FRER's are known to give false faint lines & my doctor advised me to keep away from the digital ones, as she has encountered them being faulty on several occasions. The doctors only uses a cheap pregnancy strip test anyway. Correct me if I'm wrong.

booboo16 · 09/03/2016 19:12

*forever!

cloud I love that! I guess we will all get there one step at a time.

caution Good luck tomorrow. It's great you can get everything done all in one go.

Taydex I have picked up a few pieces of maternity clothes, well at the beginning of TTC. I never thought it would take so long to get pregnant. 😕

Kwick709 · 09/03/2016 22:20

I have had a couple of womble twinges and my boobage is killing me - but this is my normal reaction to crinone gel and I am actually injecting progesterone also, so even more hormones.

caution let us know how you get on tomorrow & best of luck

cloud do your clinic let you swim? I have to stay away for 2WW

booboo I did not know FRERS have been known to give false positives... I have been recommending them to everyone really should buy shares in the company

I used to use cheapie OPKs but not the Boots ones which I found to be pants. My "expensive" ones of choice were clearblue but not the digital ones. When you start medicating with hormones the OPKS cannot be used, as the hormones mess with the results so just relied on the scans and then told when to trigger ovulation.

Must go to sleep... Well past my bedtime and have a really early start tomorrow :(

booboo16 · 09/03/2016 22:42

Apparently they give really faint lines, that women take as a sign that they are pregnant, only to find out they are not. Google it and you will see reports of this. Maybe it was just a dodgy batch...I dunno 😕Cyclogest gives me really sore, not to mention enormous boobs! Have a nice trip Kwick! Bon voyage 😆

Cloudburn · 09/03/2016 22:51

kwick my clinic doesn't really tell me anything so who knows! Wink They did give me a print out of things to watch out for, but no swimming wasn't there. I figure most woman wouldn't know they were pregnant at this stage and would go about their normal business without any real harm, so hopefully it's okay. I'm too knackered to do it again though!!

Booboo glad to hear it's not just me who progesterone makes tired - I just wish it made me sleep as well! And yeah, after a few rounds I will probably revert to the cheap strip ones (the tests that is), once you know what your looking for I'm sure they're easy enough! Smile

Right, bedtime for me too. Night ladies!

Kwick709 · 10/03/2016 06:27

cloud my clinic advises no baths or swimming for 2ww due to risk of infection - and then if preggers up until 12 weeks.

Slept fitfully... Boobs are on fire!!! Hope I dont scare the poor people I am training today!

OP posts:
taydex · 10/03/2016 06:57

Just to add confusion, my clinic says swimming is fine during 2Ww and pregnancy. The books don't say anything about the 2WW but do recommend swimming for pregnancy.

INeedNewShoes · 10/03/2016 07:58

Morning :) Sorry to have been away for a little while. I see a couple of questions have cropped up for me, so here goes (sorry if there's too much info, once I start I'm an expert witterer!)

Booboo the process with my clinic is really simple. It's basically to test for the LH surge using OPKs, then when you get your surge you phone the clinic and book an IUI appointment for roughly 24 hours later. Because I have decided that I don't feel the need to choose a specific sperm donor I don't even have to reserve the sperm.

When I get my LH surge I phone the clinic, say 'hello my name is INNS and I've just had my LH surge. I'd like to come in tomorrow for insemination at X o' clock and I would like a contactable sperm donor'. It's as simple as that!

They don't scan as a matter of course. I only had a scan last week because I had booked a trip to Copenhagen to time with the point in my cycle I had ovulated for the last six months but then my cycle went haywire! So as I was there anyway I thought I may as well ask for a scan to find out where things were at. That day, I walked into my clinic at 9am, explained the situation and 15 minutes later I had had a chat with a nurse and been scanned. I love my clinic! That scan showed one obvious lead follicle with a couple of others not far behind, and then some smaller ones that wouldn't be viable this month.

The insemination process itself is very straightforward. You just turn up at the clinic, sign a form, hop on a couch that has been specially designed to put you in the most comfortable and dignified position possible (as far as it can be with legs apart ;) ) ,then they insert a warmed speculum, then put a catheter into the cervix and insert the sperm. I'm hopeless with speculums and usually find them very painful but my clinic seem to know how to make it ok! Then they remove all the kit and leave you to chill out for half an hour in the lovely clinic room which has paintings and candles and music.

They don't give any specific advice for after the IUI apart from not to have a bath and avoid aerobic exercise.

I've read lots of different things about what to do and what not to do. You just have to decide which seem right to you. So I'm eating plenty of protein, eggs, milk, avocados, iron. I've given up badminton, cycling and Pilates for the two week wait. I'm keeping warm (sitting with my feet on a hot water bottle if necessary). The other thing I'm trying to do is to keep really chilled out. I can be a bit highly-strung at times so I've had stern words with myself about not letting work etc. stress me out.

Caution If I were to get a positive pregnancy test, my treatment at the clinic ends there. I will just go to my GP and everything will proceed in the same way as if I had become pregnant naturally. The clinic will contact me to check that the pregnancy is healthy at a certain point for their stats.

I've got a feeling that if/when I ever get a BFP I will pay for an early scan as I will want reassurance that everything is progressing as it should.

INeedNewShoes · 10/03/2016 08:07

Cloud I love that quote and the picture is lovely too :)

Thanks for asking after me yesterday. The tiredness has lifted a bit. I've got an event tomorrow evening which I'm looking forward to but for which I'm really feeling the pressure. I'll be happier once that is done and dusted and then I've got a feeling I'll generally feel a lot better! I will have to make a concerted effort to stay calm tomorrow whatever happens as I'm sure that severe stress won't help things at all.

How are you? How many DPO (days post ovulation, just in case anyone's not familiar with the acronyms) are you?

INeedNewShoes · 10/03/2016 08:07

Kwick How's your Paris trip going?

CautionHormone · 10/03/2016 11:17

Boy, you lot have been talkative whilst I wasn't here Grin! Nice to see so many people on the thread now. I've not been feeling great, hence why I haven't really been on for the past day or two.

Shoes - I see! At least you don't have to keep flying back and forth to Copenhagen in your first twelve weeks. I totally agree with you on getting a scan ASAP when you get your positive test... I'd be the same & want peace of mind that everything's alright.

So... Yesterday i found out my godmother is 15 weeks pregnant!!! I'm so excited, this'll be her 3rd, and I'm making up a baby box for her with loads of clothes, teddies, shampoos etc in for her. Will hopefully help curb my broodiness for a bit!

I have my scan in just over an hour... Keep getting the pains still, but not due on til next Monday so no idea whether I will or not! I'll let you know how it goes. I'm not sure whether I'll get the results there & then or have to wait til I see my GP in a week/two weeks...

Kwick - how is it in Paris? Hopefully warmer there than here!!! X

INeedNewShoes · 10/03/2016 11:24

Caution if you're having an ultrasound you'll most likely find that they discuss their findings with you then and there.

I hope it all goes well.

CautionHormone · 10/03/2016 13:09

Thank you Shoes.

They've found a cyst on my ovary - but it's only 4.5cm so I don't think they're going to do anything about it. She also said my ovaries look small, and said "I don't think you've been ovulating"... Great! Got to make an appointment with my GP tomorrow to discuss things further & what they're going to do next. Xx

INeedNewShoes · 10/03/2016 13:22

There is a silver lining to this cloud Caution

This will mean that the NHS should be willing to do further investigations. Far better like this than you having started fertility treatment and wasting money on attempts that wouldn't work.

Hopefully you can get to the bottom of this with the help of your GP and a gynae referral and then you'll be in a better position to plan fertility treatment.

CautionHormone · 10/03/2016 15:48

I never thought of it like that Shoes.. You're right, the NHS should be doing more scans and different bits to try and get to the bottom of it, and sending me to gynaecology, so at least I'll be better prepared for when my time comes.

I've got to go back to my GP tomorrow so we can talk about the findings, the radiologist who did my ultrasound said that the report would be with her by later today, so I'm going tomorrow because the quicker I get this sorted the better!

Do you (or anyone else) know what it means to have small ovaries?? When I had an ultrasound in March last year everything looked fine (I had an ultrasound because they thought it was my ovaries but turned out to be appendicitis). Xx

Cloudburn · 10/03/2016 16:13

Caution I agree with Shoes, now at least you've found something and can start to resolve the issue - even if you have to demand they do something about it! Well done you on following up and getting the scan done. Will keep my fingers crossed they get to the bottom of the ovulation issue quickly.

Shoes Oops, I've gone swimming AND had a bath!! Whoops! My clinic tells me nothing! In fact I re-read the fact-sheet they gave me, and it says swimming is fine. Didn't mention baths tho. Ah well, no point worrying about it now I suppose, I'll have either picked up an infection or not.

I have to admit though my nether regions have been a bit crampy these last couple of days (hope it's not said infection!). Nothing major, kind of like mild pre-period cramps, except my period is still a week away. (Shoes I'm currently day 8 since insemination.)

Good luck with the event tonight Shoes, I'm sure you'll be fine. If it helps, I use the phrase "It's just a job" to get me through potentially stressful situations at work. I find it helps me get perspective and reminds me the job isn't everything!

Have just bought some more cheapie test strips. Thought I'd test to at least see if I still have the hormone in my system I'm bored. Will let ya know how I get on tomorrow.

Kwick709 · 10/03/2016 17:38

caution when I first saw your post I read Grandmother not godmother!!!!! Bit of a shock!!!!
Sorry to hear about the cyst - but it is good that you can now get that investigated and sorted. I am not even sure what small ovaries means... Could it be you were dehydrated during the scan? I found this impacted my scans quite a lot always hard to get balance right between drinking too much and too little when you have a small bladder

shoes your clinic sounds ace - mine is more, well clinical, no candles, more like a conveyor belt Grin I hope your event goes well - remember on people's death beds they never wish "darn it I should have worked harder" - oh and by the way do as I say not as I do Hmm

cloud are you on crinone? I get cramps from that...

So I spent the day training new HR Leaders on how to be well HR Leaders... It went well even though:

  • I slept really badly
  • I felt very queasy this morning
  • For some bizarre reason I could not catch my breath most of the day....

Tomorrow I am taking a back seat and will just be in the room whilst my lovely colleague does most of the work :)

We are off for dinner at the Trocadero so we get a view if the Eiffel Tower. Bon soiree everyone!

Hi all,

Gosh, sounds like you've been busy! I'm on my phone so apologies for rubbish reply. Just been up to my Nan's for my aunt's funeral Sad Is it weird that it was nice to see my family? Now on the boring 3 hour drive home... Shattered. Maybe I'll nap once I've finished writing this.

The sheet from my clinic recommends swimming. Weird. Guess it's low impact/supportive exercise. I wonder how big the risk of infection is. I've got 4 pregnancy books at home and none say don't swim... I think the bath thing is also to do with the temperature as you don't want it so hot that it raises your body temperature. That' how I read it anyway. Anyway, what's done is done and no point worrying. I will write a list for here of all the things that I did that weren't ideal and it still seems to have worked for me. I'm a bit superstitious though so you'll have to wait till after my scan tomorrow.

Kwik - breathlessness can be a sign of pregnancy #justsaying .I know I felt it a bit but didn't realise till I saw it in one of my books. Yes, I've become a book geek!

Shoes - Your clinic sounds lovely. More like a spa! Mine's not like that, it's more clinical inside but like a country home in nice grounds on the outside.

Caution - No idea about small ovaries, sorry. Sounds like you're in a good position to get it checked out on the NHS while you're saving up. Might even mean you get some NHS funding for your fertility treatment?

Kwick709 · 10/03/2016 20:19

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!! I have just realised over 24 hours later that my lentogest injection was due today not yesterday... What am I supposed to do now? I injected it yesterday, next one due saturday - should I just try and get back on time, contact the clinic or the third alternative which I am too tired to think of? I was just so anxious to inject when I got to the hotel yesterday pm I DID NOT THINK!!!!!

taydex good luck for your scan tomorrow :)

I feel just like I have done after each IUI - boobage on fire, cramps in womble.... So that could either mean no luck again, or these are the side effects of the crinone gel or the third alternative which I am... Yes you guessed it... Too tired to think of!

Going to schleep now....

OP posts:
INeedNewShoes · 10/03/2016 20:33

Kwick contact the clinic as soon as possible in the morning. They may advise bringing forward the next one, but we can't possibly know.

Try not to worry. I get the feeling these embryos very much have a mind of their own and our actions have less control over the situation than we might like to think. 24 hours difference with an injection can't make that much difference, can it?
