Old thread just about finished. Here is a new one... Fx for lots of well earned BFPs for those ttc over forty. We also welcome stories from those who have successfully had their babies over forty and we love hearing back from our graduates.

Stepping back seems to have worked wonders for you!

If you possibly can I would try not to obsessively test (I speak from experience!). Especially steer clear of the digital ones now you have confirmation.

Crossed post Amanda Smile

AmandaJL41 · 24/07/2016 18:40

Yes, ababsurdum, each pregnancy this year I've spent far too much money (which we haven't got) obsessively testing. It did absolutely ZERO for me, apart from get me overly stressed or falsely optimistic, and can't do anything to change the outcome. I've promised myself not to do it next time (she says optimistically) but who am I kidding??!! Blush

Bloopbleep · 24/07/2016 22:16

Congratulations BeeGee!

ababsurdum · 24/07/2016 22:36

Amanda I think it's wanting some control, or the illusion of it, even though pg is one thing where you have so little control. I took so many tests with my first, trying to see if the line was getting darker. My IVF consultant (I was about 5 weeks pg when I went for my review meeting to discuss the failed IVF) said it was pointless as if anything had happened the hormones would take a while to clear from my system. I had first hand experience of that waiting for a bfn after my mc last year.

Twinkly here's hoping we have more good news from you soon. It's about bloody time for us, no?

Cd9 here so just started shagging week!

Zita West guide to improving egg quality

Bloopbleep · 25/07/2016 13:07

I got a clear positive on an ic opk. This is highly unusual. How many days should I be bonking for? (I know it's a frowned on word but I just love it) I'm concerned that it's just a false positive and the egg won't pop but I need to give it my best shot just in case my body decides to work this month.

AmandaJL41 · 25/07/2016 13:09

Thanks for that ababs. Very interesting. Looks like I'm doing quite a bit of it already. I chucked out all of our plastic food containers & canned food yesterday. 'Just' need to lose about 3 stone..... Shock

ababsurdum · 25/07/2016 13:13

Bloopbleep sperm meets egg plan says today and following two days. Have fun Wink

Great that you got a positive.

ababsurdum · 25/07/2016 13:17

Amanda I have been looking at their supplements but they are fairly pricey. I need to up my supplements game over the next few months while I give this my last best shot. I currently only take pregnacare conception, fish oil plus ubiquinol daily and maca on odd days. I'm generally eating better though so hopefully getting more via the diet.

AmandaJL41 · 25/07/2016 13:18

Bloop I think you should bonk away for a few days to be on the safe side, and then try every other day for a bit longer. We've conceived 3 out of 5 months of trying, all mc'd, but conception is defo not the problem for us. Our routine is to do the deed every night for a week, 5 days before estimated ov and a few days after. Then we put a few in the net a couple times more the week after, just in case. We usually do it at bedtime so I'm not getting up again for a while, and I lay with my bum on a pillow for maybe 10 minutes after. Seems to work for us. Good luck, and happy bonking!!! 😉

AmandaJL41 · 25/07/2016 13:24

ababs you're doing better than me. I just take pregnacare, and just started 600mg CoQ10. I tried Agnus Castus but it buggered up my cycle. I don't take any oils but I eat oily fish & add chia seeds to my porridge. I'm trying to get my nutrients from diet rather than supplements. I'm waiting for the egg book to be delivered so I might have to tweak things when I've read that. There's so much advice out there, you could spend a fortune and take so much you rattle. Mad to think that I conceived my boy 3 years ago on a diet of coffee, smokes and stress! He was as strong as an ox. Amazing the difference a few years can make.

Bloopbleep · 25/07/2016 15:49

Thanks but I've just got cystitis and piles :( This so so unfair.... Can't exactly ask him to just shove the bunch of grapes out the way down there - off to down bicarb and hope it all goes away before he's back from work tonight /sobs/

AmandaJL41 · 25/07/2016 19:17

Oh Bloopbleep, why are our bodies so cruel to us??? Don't know what to suggest. In the dark, you shove them out the way & guide him in...? Turkey baster? My body does this wonderful thing every month - on the day of ovulation I get pain, followed by bloating, nausea and terrible wind..... Thanks body. Feeling SO sexy 🙄

ababsurdum · 25/07/2016 19:44

Oh no Bloop, I hope it clears up fast.

How are you feeling today Beegee?

Beegee3 · 25/07/2016 22:40

ababs I seem to be needing the loo more. I feel bloated and I keep getting cramps. My boobs are generally tender and I am scared every time I go to the toilet or feel like I am 'wet'. Other half could have been more excited he seems to be in a state of shock x

wotsitsmaltesers · 25/07/2016 23:20

Congratulations beeegee3 - can I ask how old you are? Am in need of some positive motivation - another failed cycle for me and after an hsg. Not posted for a while as also needed to escape for a bit. Wondering when to decide enough is enough - trying for my first so it is very hard to stop.

Bloopbleep · 26/07/2016 06:49

Want a laugh at how sad my situ is? I applied lidocaine to said pile... Wee while later we dtd. It must've spread because it numbed us both down there /points/

lousylear · 26/07/2016 08:34

I'm 41. Have 3 kids already. (12,10,8) In a new relationship. He is 39 with no kids. Had my coil removed. So, fingers crossed! I'm taking folic acid already hoping this will help.

Beegee3 · 26/07/2016 09:06

Hi wotsits, I remember you, hope you're okay? I am 43 and 2 months now. I didn't think it was going to happen and with it being so very early I am very nervous.

AmandaJL41 · 26/07/2016 11:17

Keeping everything crossed for you Beegee3. I understand your anxiety completely. It's impossible not to worry. One of the mums on a child loss forum I use said 'the only thing worse than not being pregnant is being pregnant'. This rang very true for me. But women of our age succeed all the time! It's more likely to be OK than not. Sending you tons of luck and hoping that this is your time xxxxxx

ababsurdum · 26/07/2016 11:27

Amanda gosh how true that statement is, I was s*it scares when I thought I was pregnant the other month (and when I was last year) - mc, chromosome issues, multiples, effect on ds. It's hard.

Beegee know the feeling well. I think I checked for blood every time I went to the loo when I was pg with ds. Maybe some mindfulness practice could help?

AmandaJL41 · 26/07/2016 11:28

Bloopbleep well done for getting one 'in the bag' on time, in spite of everything 😊 Sounds SO romantic.... 🤔

ababsurdum · 26/07/2016 11:45

Bloop congrats! I conceived ds when I was getting over a bout of cystitis. I was a bit anxious about it flaring up again but thought sod it. I imagine the lidocaine effect was odd though!

Welcome lousylear and welcome back wotsits.
