Old thread just about finished. Here is a new one... Fx for lots of well earned BFPs for those ttc over forty. We also welcome stories from those who have successfully had their babies over forty and we love hearing back from our graduates.

Hi again kkmppet, Does CREATE test them genetically to see how the embryos develop?

ababsurdum · 21/07/2016 19:53

How awful Bloopbleep, I would have expected them to give it six months maximum given your age. Can you see a different GP?

This attitude and the 'wait and see' approach is why we just went straight to private IVF but I appreciate that wouldn't be everyone's approach, the cost notwithstanding. I'm not sure a private doctor could instruct your GP to prescribe clomid, after all the GP has your test results. They could, presumably, prescribe you clomid privately. I've no idea what it might cost.

I'm sorry you're in this position.

Bloopbleep · 21/07/2016 21:04

Thanks ababsurdum - it was a consultant gynaecologist who told me I had to wait a year. I asked about the 6 months due to age thing as so many women over 40 say they only had to wait 6 months for help but was told it would be irresponsible of him to treat me now. He also said he didn't think they'd say differently in the private sector with regard to clomid but might take a different approach with relation to ivf or iui, which really is beyond our means at the moment (of course they happily offer that costing upwards of £5k.) I'm not as upset as I expected to be because at least I've finally got confirmation that there is something wrong which I've known all along.

ababsurdum · 21/07/2016 21:32

I can't remember if you're seeing an acupuncturist? I've read that they can help to normalise ovulation. Worth a try if you can find a fertility specialist in your area, certainly cheaper than a private consultant.

It still sucks though, I'm sorry.

ababsurdum · 21/07/2016 21:33

Plus you often find that the private consultants are the same guys working in the nhs part time.

Bloopbleep · 21/07/2016 21:37

I have been getting acupuncture since April and I haven't ovulated since it started. Last cycle's temps were good and it looked as if maybe I had ovulated but the consultant thinks that my scant period suggests that yet again I didn't. I'm not sure it's worth keeping it up. I'm going again next week and I'll speak to them about it and see what they say.

The gynae did give me names of his two colleagues who deal specifically with fertility at the private clinic as he's a general obgyn

AmandaJL41 · 22/07/2016 00:07

Bloopbleep I'm so sorry for the crappy service you're getting from our good old NHS. It really does seem that us 40+ers get the raw end of the stick when it comes to help with our fertility. Sadly it seems that you get what you pay for, even though as another poster has said, the same bloody consultants are working for both the public and private sector. Is a private consultation completely out of the question? I would imagine that you'd have to pay privately for your medications too. I think with IVF the cost of the meds is part of your bill, and not done via your GP at prescription cost. I assume other private fertility treatments would be the same. I hope you find a way, because it's so unfair to keep you waiting for so long. How the hell does a mc in Jan followed by months with no ovulation constitute normal fertility? Can you get a second opinion? So frustrated for you. Angry

MSW thanks for your reply. Yes, donor eggs do give us a wider window of opportunity, which for me has definitely helped to take the pressure off a bit. In terms of time healing, unfortunately with child loss that's not to be expected. The grief changes and softens over time, but it stays with you until your last breath. I can't really explain it to anyone who hasn't gone through it, but it affects you in ways that you wouldn't imagine. I hope that no-one else in this lovely group has to ever find out what I mean. But thank you for the support, and I wish you all the best also. I like your plan for trying various holistic methods - anything that gets you feeling proactive has got to be a good thing xx

Bloopbleep · 22/07/2016 09:13

I'm going to speak one last time with GP to get more day21 bloods done (or whatever days are required) and if they refuse I'm going to sell my
Oh and look at private

IAteSomeofthePies · 22/07/2016 10:40

Bloop do you think you'd get a good price for him? Wink kidding aside, this is so frustrating for you. I'm sorry. I guess they do also have to consider the potential risks to you of any treatment, and you might weigh that differently to their professional ethics. But that isn't much consolation!

Ewcm here, no time to have sex as we are leaving to go camping, and then we'll be sharing a tent with DS! Guess we're out for this month. I'm getting a bit resigned to that, though.

Baby dust to all.

Bloopbleep · 22/07/2016 19:18

Probably not pies ... well maybe, he's an ex chef...

You could always have a knee trembler in the shower block while Ds is asleep ;)

IAteSomeofthePies · 23/07/2016 17:04

Ooh, Bloop an ex chef! That is not what I need around the house in my quest to lose weight.

Thanks for the suggestion. The showers are in converted horse boxes, so that knee trembler would be quite atmospheric!

TwinklyMusic · 23/07/2016 20:05

Just catching up. So sorry to hear so many sad stories! Kk, April, MSW - really sad for all you've been going through. Flowers Amanda you've really been through such a tragic time! Sad it's impossible to say anything to help except we're all here to listen.

It's cheering to see the hope that is still coming through. Chinese medicine article looked interesting. Also, the started with an egg book is good.

Just into the tww (although I think it's not quite that long with me!). Opk showed early ov again, but I was watching for it this time.

Yes, thanks for the book recommendation. I'm waiting for it to be delivered. In the meantime we've raided the overdraft bank account to start taking CoQ10, bought some natural organic paraben-free toiletries, and filled the fridge with fresh fruit & veg. I tried a natural deodorant too, but I think that'll end up in the bin Blush. I'll stand on one leg and whistle if it gets me a good embryo!!!

Fingers crossed for everyone xx

Beegee3 · 24/07/2016 12:50

Freaking out a bit ladies... is this what I think it is? Confused x

Fabulous forty + ttc and having success!
AmandaJL41 · 24/07/2016 13:19

Beegee3 It most certainly is!!! Congratulations! Grin

Beegee3 · 24/07/2016 13:46

Amanda thank you so much xx I am not believing it yet and restraining my positiveness in fear of it not happening. I am either 9dpo or 10dpo ovulated a bit later this cycle...must test more x

IAteSomeofthePies · 24/07/2016 14:07

Yay, Beegee! That is fabulous!

Beegee3 · 24/07/2016 14:11

pies thank you so much...still not sure x

ababsurdum · 24/07/2016 14:47

Beegee that is fantastic, congratulations!!! Just what we need on the thread.

I got similar lines at 10dpo with ds.

So happy for you Grin

AmandaJL41 · 24/07/2016 14:47

It's most definitely there, but I understand your restraint. I've had 2 CPs and a mc at 9w, so I won't celebrate until I've got a crying baby in my arms. But a bfp is still worthy of a mini celebration! And you definitely have 2 of them right there!

ababsurdum · 24/07/2016 14:55

Amanda is absolutely right, it's good to be cautious at our age. This is the first hurdle though and you are over it. Definitely worth a mini celebration. No booze though Wink

lidlisposhaldi · 24/07/2016 15:01

Hullo Ladies, at the beginning of this thread you invited success stories, so I thought I would let you know that I gave birth to my first a month shy of my 40th birthday and my second four days before my 43rd birthday.

Best of luck to everyone on this thread.

Beegee3 · 24/07/2016 15:13

Thank you so much ababs you are so supportive and kind. I feel bad because I haven't posted much on here lately, but just been struggling a little with life and needed to step back and bit and try to get a grip xx

Beegee3 · 24/07/2016 16:40

Fingers crossed 😀! xx

AmandaJL41 · 24/07/2016 17:27

Yay Beegee3!!! Congrats! Now, step away from the evil pee sticks and have a mini-celebration for getting over the biggest hurdle! CakeWishing you huge plumes of sticky baby dust xxx
