Strictly a general anaesthetic means you can't breathe for yourself - with sedation you can. I've had many many procedures with sedation - including two egg collections - and I'm always completely out cold. But a true general means you will take a lot longer to come around and will very possibly have been intubated. With sedation you might have an oxygen mask but you will come around from being knocked out cold very quickly xxx

bananafish81 · 01/03/2016 07:33

And in fact procedures I've had under sedation where the Dr has been able to talk to me during it, I've still had almost no memory of it whatsoever, because the sedation drugs induce amnesia (same stuff they use for endoscopies - basically massively souped up valium!) xx

lucieloos · 01/03/2016 08:04

Yes it's definitely not a general as I know you have to have tubes in your nose etc for that and that's not the case even though they call it a general. Also within 5 minutes of waking up you feel completely fine and not groggy and tired for the rest of the day. Maybe it is some form of sedative then I don't know but whatever it is it's pretty good and nothing to worry about!

loopylou1984 · 01/03/2016 08:52

Agreed, it's good! I vaguely remember them talking to each other, but not sure I could have sensibly answered any questions! Lol.

Glad I hadn't completely missed two newbies there Lucie! I did scroll back s bit to check :).

Feeling a little off this morning. Really hoping it's the slight cold I seem to have picked up and not the start of the medication making me feel horrific. Have brought the anti sickness meds with me to work just in case. Xx

bananafish81 · 01/03/2016 09:21

I'm appalled by the lack of instructions - you poor thing Boris

My Dr told me to do my last stims and Cetrotide at 7pm and then my trigger at exactly 36h before my scheduled EC time - so 9pm the first time and 9.30pm the second time. He wanted the trigger the last thing I took, but as I'd been doing my stims in the evening that's why he gave me very specific times to take them.

Safe flight Boris xx

BorisIsBack · 01/03/2016 09:44

Thanks for all the info and reassurance.
I used to manage a massive international travel programme so travelling and even undergoing medical procedures abroad doesn't phase me, but the lack of info does.

I don't blame the clinic, they do seem to be kind and they do appear professional but my co-ordinate there is really crap at communicating.

Flying tonight, we have a night in Vienna then an early drive to the Czech Republic.

I couldnt do this without you wise ladies.

Thank you all Flowers xxx

BorisIsBack · 01/03/2016 09:45

*My co-ordinator

lucieloos · 01/03/2016 09:53

Which co-ordinater do you have Boris? Is it Christina? I have heard a lot of people complain about her recently. I have Eva Kopecna who has been really good with me. If you ever need to go again which hopefully you won't then see about switching to her. Have a good flight and keep in touch xx

BorisIsBack · 01/03/2016 10:05

It's cristina yes. I'd definitely swap next time!

lucieloos · 01/03/2016 10:18

Ahh I thought it might have been! That explains a lot. She is terrible by all accounts. At least you're nearly done now but would have been better without all the additional stress.

JustTrixie · 01/03/2016 10:34

I really feel for you Boris having had such a tough time. I would definitely complain. You have coped with everything so well. Safe journey later Smile I had sedation for my EC, remember being very nervous but was absolutely fine. One min I was chatting to the anaesthetist, the next I was coming round back in the recovery room.

Hope its just a cold Sammy, lots going round at the moment.

Sounds like you'll be ok with the Intralipids Lucie.

stealthbanana · 01/03/2016 12:18

Safe travels boris! Agree with the others, the instructions have been crap and would defo complain.

sammy fx you've just got a sniffle.

lucie great news about your baseline!

MPP81 · 01/03/2016 12:46

Just a quick note to say good luck and have a safe trip Boris! :)

star1980 · 01/03/2016 21:24

Have a good trip Boris, good luck!!

lucieloos · 02/03/2016 08:12

Good luck today Boris. Hope you get lots of eggs.

I've managed to book in a few acupuncture sessions. I've got 2 next week before EC and then 2 the week after before transfer and one on actual transfer day as lots of studies show it increases implantation rates so thought it was worth a go!

Hi, can I join? I think I'm borderline eligible, just about to fail my 10th cycle of trying I think.
I've been for day 21 bloods and my progesterone was only 1 so GP said I haven't ov, and since I already have a daughter I'm not given any more help but they advise me to get cracking on private help- DP just got an unexpected windfall so thankfully we have some cash to fund this.

I've been temping this month and saw a definite spike around CD14, then it dropped for CD 19 and 20 and rose again from CD21 onwards. No idea what it all means.

Anyway I've contacted Guys fertility clinic and am waiting for them to get in touch so hopefully an expert will poke around and work out what's going on.

Good luck to you all, I've skimmed the thread and it seems there are lots of things going on so hopefully some bfps might start coming in the next few weeks.

loopylou1984 · 02/03/2016 08:51

Welcome noplan, sorry to hear your news, but brilliant that you have the cash to self fund. It all moves a lot quicker privately anyway so there's a plus to spending the cash.

Yes, there's a few of us part way through IVF cycles at the moment so lots going on round here.

You're in good company, this is a wonderfully supportive group Smile

loopylou1984 · 02/03/2016 08:52

I'm sitting in my car at work with a hot water bottle on my feet for the last few mins before I have to go in. The things I'll try for a thick juicy lining! Lol. Terrified about what Friday's scan will reveal. Xx

lucieloos · 02/03/2016 09:09

Hi noplan as Sammy says you're definitely in good company here. I'm surprised they wouldn't even prescribe clomid for you if it's just that you're not ovulating.

Sammy, bless you, I have a hot water bottle in work. Not really for IVF just sometimes it gets really cold in the office or I have used it when I have had a bad back before. Can you take yours in with you? Good luck for Friday. Really hoping it all goes well for you. Have you been feeling ok so far?

OP posts:
loopylou1984 · 02/03/2016 11:20

Lol, yeah I could bring it in, but might look a bit strange with it on my feet!

Yeah I'm ok so far. I felt a bit icky yesterday morning, but it passed. I'm inly on meds day 5 though. Xx

lucieloos · 02/03/2016 11:33

Haha say you have cold feet Sammy! Glad you are feeling ok so far.

Welcome Noplan. Hope guys give you good answers.

They got 13 eggs from me. I'm about to be discharged for the clinic. Hope enough are mature. I have to get my progesterone suppositories now too.
Thank you all again for your wisdom and support. X

lucieloos · 02/03/2016 12:02

Wow Boris that is a brilliant number! I'm sure plenty will be mature. Really pleased for you. Hope everything went well at the clinic. What are your plans for the next 5 days there?

OP posts:
loopylou1984 · 02/03/2016 13:26

Congratulations Boris! Xx

bananafish81 · 02/03/2016 13:33

Wow Boris that's amazing! Hope you are resting up and taking it easy for the rest of the day. Hope your eggs and DH's sperm are having a hot date in the love lab!
