Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

avriljen I'm so glad that someone else is in the same boat as me... I have been going mad with this for months... I am also a bridesmaid in June and this is the main reason I have had to put off Ttc!! Had mc last year and then had to just stop trying.

The dresses are bought, although haven't been to dressmaker yet but there is not much room for putting on weight! If, IF Ttc works first time in Feb then I will be 16-17 weeks by the wedding. At this point I am desperate to get started after waiting so long.

I have had a lot of people saying that you can't put off Ttc for a wedding and I wish that I hadn't nowSad

isthatpoisontoo · 05/01/2016 15:08

Can I join, too?

I'm getting married at the end of Feb, really want to start to TTC now, but I'm trying to hold off because I'm sure I'll want a drink on my wedding day! We made plans in August last year, and I got to work straight away losing weight. I had to stop in November, realised I was feeling awful on 1,200 calories a day. Sad I hope you're all doing better at this healthy eating thing than I did.

Did anyone else find coming off the pill a bit of a roller coaster? I don't think I was very nice to live with for a couple of months.

It's nice to read about people in the same boat as me. Sorry to hear about
your losses Loki and Toffee.

Avriljen · 05/01/2016 15:18

Felipa I'm so sorry to hear about your mc and I'm sorry you've had to put off trying for a while.

I think there's always potential for dresses to be let out by an inch or 2, that's what I'm hoping anyway! If it comes to it then could you order a maternity version/larger size last minute? I'm considering quietly saying to the girl in the dress shop when she measures me to leave a wee bit of space just in case! (Would need to whisper so the others don't hear!)

I do think I'm maybe being too optimistic though - I have had health issues for 7 years, been left with ME although lead fairly normal life now, hoping it won't affect fertility but don't know, plus DH had mumps as a teenager so there's a chance he's infertile. So it may be that I'm fooling myself even thinking about it!

TheresaMarie55 · 05/01/2016 15:21

Hi poison, hope you're well.

I was around 11 weeks with my first at my wedding. I Will admit it would have been nice to have a drink, wasn't to bad though as I now have my gorgeous girl.

I only started my healthy eating on January 2nd but am doing good so far. Limiting calories but not being silly with it, eating plenty fruit and veg.

I personally wouldn't put a hold on ttc for someone's wedding unless it was my own (and even then I didn't lol). When you feel ready to ttc I think you should go for it and let nothing hold you back x

isthatpoisontoo · 05/01/2016 15:46

Thanks Theresa. If it happens, then I won't be upset! But it seems like there's enough to be getting on with, and a couple of months isn't that long.

For those worrying about dresses, I used to work in a shop that did made to measure bridal and bridesmaids' dresses. The seamstresses were quite quick on the uptake, even if the customers were subtle. Customers would say something like 'my weight fluctuates a bit' and they'd suggest forgiving styles or make sure they left huge seam allowances so things could be let out.

Vanillaradio · 05/01/2016 16:25

I'm taking the pregnacare trying for a baby as well as folic acid, did this before pregnancy with ds too and I didn't have any bad effects.

So funny seeing about people being bridesmaids as I have just been asked to be one in July! The bride is one of my oldest friends and only just got engaged so quick work ! She is well aware of my potential baby planning so not going to let it affect when we start trying!

Hi YogaYoga BTW. Diabetes sucks doesn't it. My hba1c was 8.8 when they referred me before pregnancy with ds, although 7.5 was my "magic number.' before being allowed to start trying. Hoping I am fairly close to that now. It is definitely doable as is being diabetic and pregnant but hard work!

TheresaMarie55 · 05/01/2016 16:41

I will just start to take folic acid about a month before I come off the pill. I never took any with my last two and thankfully fell pregnant first time and had no problems. Our next baby will be out last so want to really enjoy every aspect of it all. Not that I haven't before lol but just wanna really embrace it x

stumblymonkey · 05/01/2016 17:12

Well day two of healthy eating nearly done for me....just got to make a stir fry for dinner.

I'm not sticking to a specific calorie limit but I can't imagine I'm eating that many as sticking to porridge for brekkie, fruit/Greek yoghurt or a baked potato for lunch and a healthy dinner plus snacks of raw carrots/fruit.

I already do boot camps three times a week so hoping that will be enough!

Feel massive after the Xmas period! I think I'm probably at my heaviest Shock

I've just done day one of healthy eating too... Lots of fruit and veg and no sugar. A bit too much caffeine but also a lot of water. Am panicking a bit about caffeine as I am definitely addicted! Although I don't have an excessive amount I definitely have too much for pregnancy!

TheresaMarie55 · 05/01/2016 18:50

Felipa, could you try switching to decaffeinated coffee and tea. My husband can't have caffeine and I started drinking his coffee when mine ran out. It tastes slightly different but not loads x

YogaYoga · 05/01/2016 19:12

I think I'll have to restart the healthy eating tomorrow ladies as I just managed to work my way through half a packet of biscuits Blush

beardsrock · 05/01/2016 20:35

Just checking in with everyone to see how we are all doing?

Had two coffees today - bad but only small ones. Loads of water, steak and salad and veggies for lunch. Porridge and toast for brekkie, no bad snacks.

Been googling ovulation kits, I know this thread is relaxed but I might get some - anyone had experience of them?

Been dreaming about sex the past few nights so thinking this maybe a sign I'm ovulating - might have to seduce DH tonight Grin

isthatpoisontoo · 05/01/2016 21:02

I've bought a huge pack of cheap ovulation tests from Amazon, beardsrock. So far they seem to be telling me I'm not ovulating at all (so did the more expensive supermarket ones). I'm tying not to let that worry me, I have a fairly textbook cycle and I don't see what else that tiny bleed very month on day 14 could be. I've heard very good things about them from other people.

stardusty5 · 05/01/2016 21:06

I've not gone so far as ov kits yet but i have been tracking my cycles for over a year now. Had a tentative TTC last month but my period came over a week early, which means we way over shot the fertile week! That'll learn us! I normally have quite a long cycle.

Clearly more DTD required!

Writerwannabe83 · 05/01/2016 21:51

When I was TTC DS I was obsessed and I bought a pack of 30 cheapy pregnancy tests and was testing twice a day from 7 dpo!! Grin

I didn't use opk strips but I have a feeling I'm going to get addicted to them too this time round Grin

Pointlessfan · 05/01/2016 21:54

They sell the ovulation test strips and pregnancy test strips in Poundland if anyone wants to stock up!

Writerwannabe83 · 05/01/2016 21:59

I got mind from Amazon, 30 hpts and 30 opks for about £5 Grin

I actually got my BFP from peeing on an opk because I had ran out of hpts to pee on Grin

TheresaMarie55 · 05/01/2016 22:02

I'm not gonna get ovulation strips as I will get super obsessed lol. I was really chilled first time around and only realised I was pregnant at around 7 weeks. With my second I was testing from 10 dpo lol, I think I would have really stressed myself out if I hadn't got my bfp! Really want to be chilled this time around but love all the ttc chatter. I think I would get ovulation sticks if I didn't fall pregnant in the first three months. If people want to use them though I say go right ahead, as long as you don't stress about it (easier said than done) what harm can it do! X

Pointlessfan · 05/01/2016 22:13

I agree, I don't think I'll use them unless it's proving difficult.

Nuttypops · 05/01/2016 22:59

Hello! Can I join in please? Relaxed sounds like the way to go to me!
We have a DD who is 13 months, so this is ttc#2 for us. I am 30 in Feb, and DH is 32. Not in a huge rush for #2 but I would love to have another by the time DD is 3, so we thought we may as well just see how we get on.

I desperately need to hide the left over Christmas chocolate before another pregnancy, I have only just managed to rejoin the gym after having DD and moving house a few months ago, but ended up in hospital over Christmas and needed surgery so I can't go to the gym for a while.

TheresaMarie55 · 05/01/2016 23:15

Hi nutty and welcome 😊 .

Hope you're ok and surgery hasn't been to hard on you. Is swimming a possibility? I have a three year old and 14 month old so can't really go to the gym but go swimming with them. X

TheresaMarie55 · 06/01/2016 06:15

First weigh in for me this morning (will weigh at 6am every Wednesday) I'm 13st1.6lb. Really happy. I was 13st2lb on December 18th, was terrible for two weeks eating all sorts and then went on the healthy eating in January 2nd. Given me a good boost to keep at it x

Nuttypops · 06/01/2016 07:35

That's good going TheresaM, well done, particularly over Christmas!

Swimming is a good idea, thanks! I can't for a few weeks but once the stitches etc dissolve I should be fine to and it is a lot more doable than the gym. The gym/pool has a crèche that my daughter likes as it is the same staff as her nursery so that lets me go by myself for a bit. Not easy with 2 of them though I don't imagine!

Pointlessfan · 06/01/2016 07:44

Took my first folic acid tablet this morning. I've also booked a smear test, might as well make sure everything is ok before ttc.

Felipa · 06/01/2016 14:06

theresamarie I bought a big bag of half caff from M and S today and it's actually really nice. I do have a mild headache so will need to have some more this afternoon but at least this is the first step to cutting down.

As for alcohol, I never want to see it again after Christmas! (Famous last words!)
