Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Hi group, I'd like to join please Smile

Me and DH have a 21 month old son and we'd always decided to just have one (due to health implications with me) but about 6/7 months ago I got the craving for a second and I have finally managed to convince DH we should TTC.

I have been taking 5mg of Folic Acid for about 7 weeks now (I have epilepsy) and me and DH are deciding whether to just crack on trying or whether we should wait for an appointment with the Epilepsy Nurse first as I was under her care for my first pregnancy.

A great opportunity has arisen for me at work too which has made me want to slightly delay TTC for a while.

It is the above two factors that determine whether TTC'ing may start anywhere between now and April.

Excited!!!! Grin

Pointlessfan · 02/01/2016 21:31

Hi writer your DS is the same age as my DD. If your first pregnancy went well I'd have thought you could crack on but I know nothing about epilepsy! It is exciting though isn't it??

Writerwannabe83 · 02/01/2016 22:01

I was signed off sick at 10 weeks gestation and remained signed off throughout the rest of my pregnancy. It was initially because I was having random fresh bleeds and then when I hit 20 weeks gestation my epilepsy destabilised a little and my heart started playing up. I had been on beta blockers prior to TTC due to previous SVT and arrhythmia, but had come off them as they aren't advised during the first three months of pregnancy and I was fine until 20 weeks and then had to go back on them. I had to have an ELCS because of my health.

The only issue I have is that when I was 20 weeks my dose of my epilepsy drugs was increased as the concentration of the drug in my blood was dropping due to our circulating volume increasing so much, and after having DS I was just kept at that heightened dose. I'm trying to decide whether I should warn back down to the dose I used to be on and then TTC (to reduce the risks of causing health problems to baby) or whether to just TTC on the dose I'm on. My epilepsy is really well controlled and I don't want to rock the boat by reducing my dosage. The likelihood is that even if I do reduce my dose for TTC I will still end up back on the heightened dose by the end of the pregnancy anyway Grin

Sometimes I hate the fact that I can't just simply want a baby and have one. I don't like complications.

Hi there.

I would like to join this group, as am planning on ttc baby no 2. I'm going to start a new diet to lose weight in preparation and hope to start ttc in March. I'll be celebrating my 36th birthday soon so am conscious it may take a bit longer to conceive then the 6 months it took for me to fall pregnant with DD1.

TheresaMarie55 · 03/01/2016 00:50

Hi all, could I join please 😊 . I'm hoping to start ttc at the end of April. Waiting until then as I want to lose some weight first. Also I already have two little ones born in October so a bit of a gap between birthdays wouldn't be a bad idea lol. My girls are 3 and 1 and I also have a 12 year old stepson. I'm 24 and my husband is 34 and we've both decided we would rather have our babies closer together. I have one pack of pills left and will pick another box up at the end of the month. The plan is to take the next three packs taking us to late April but if I've lost a good amount of weight by the end of March I will stop taking the pill then. I was lucky with my girls and fell pregnant first time but am aware I may not be as lucky third time around so don't want to leave ttc to late.

Hope everyone is well x

Pointlessfan · 03/01/2016 07:31

writer that sounds very difficult. Would you have to wait long for an appointment with the nurse?
Welcome new arrivals!

Vanillaradio · 03/01/2016 10:01

Hi, I was 36 when I got pregnant with ds. He's 2 years 2 months and i'm now 39. So well aware that it may take a while this time. But then I said that last time and can't believe how lucky I was. Writer I'm with you , would love a non diabetic low risk pregnancy but have to deal with all the isues around my condition instead Hopefully get my 5mg folic acid today or tomorrow so I can start on that.

AliceScarlett · 03/01/2016 11:16

Stumbly low like 3 times a month low Confused. I just think it's about gently encouraging it at fertile times and backing off the rest of the time so he doesn't feel so pressurised.

TheresaMarie55 · 03/01/2016 13:57

I never took folic acid with my other two but will be this time. When do people start? A month or so before coming off pill or other contraception or just when you do come off? I'm on day two of the diet and feeling pretty good. Once I've lost the weight I'm gonna do my best to carry in eating healthy. Put a whopping 4 stone on with my second and don't want to do it again. I'm back to pre pregnancy weight but still have a couple of stone to lose x

bobcat85 · 03/01/2016 14:34

Hello,
Thought I'd join as I've been reading other posts for a while.
We're both 30 and been married for 3 years and we decided to start TTC last year.
However, I was on Cerazette and my cycles weren't normal for a long time. Doctors thought I may have had polycistic overies but scans and blood tests confirmed that was not the case thankfully. It appeared to just be the pill working out of my system.
Now everything is back to normal we've started properly but want to be quite relaxed about it. I'm tracking my cycles with the My Days app and hoping that will work.

Looking forward to chatting to you all.

Loki17 · 03/01/2016 14:55

I don't know whether I'm crazy to post in here already but here goes. I have a 4 year old dd and we started ttc #2 in September. I got my bfp in November but on the 23rd of December we found out at a scan that our baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks. I'm devastated by our loss and only started to miscarry yesterday. I'm hoping that things are straight forward from now and that we can start ttc again after my period next month.

TheresaMarie55 · 03/01/2016 18:16

Hi bobcat, I think relaxed the is the best way to be about it, sometimes easier said than done though lol.

Hi Loki. Sorry to here about your loss. Hope you get your bfp soon and everything goes smoothly x

AliceScarlett · 03/01/2016 19:12

So sorry to hear that Loki. I hope things turn out more positively next cycle.

Pointlessfan · 03/01/2016 19:33

Sorry for your loss loki Flowers

I've decided to start gradually reducing my caffeine intake as it was a big shock to the system with my first pregnancy when I could only have 2 cuppas a day, I had dreadful withdrawal headaches for ages. Going to try and lose one cup tomorrow, then another after a few days etc. Also need to buy folic acid.

toffeeboffin · 03/01/2016 20:00

I am totally on board with this thread.

DS is two and I found out I was pregnant a month ago. But it wasn't to be as I sadly miscarried last week which has been pretty rough. Christmas has been shit. I was around 6 weeks.

Anyway, I'm focusing on moving on. We weren't really trying but now that this has happened I know I'm ready to seriously start TTC again for number 2.

I've bought prenatal vitamins, reduced my caffeine intake and have really upped the fruit and veg intake. Lots of soup made from fresh chicken stock. Not too bothered about alcohol but am pretty much cutting that out too.

Back at work on Monday, planning lots of stews, roast veg and soups. Trying to avoid processed stuff. Avoiding bread and pasta. Am also trying to exercise, hard when working full time. Drinking masses of water.

When trying for DS I lost 30 pounds. Don't need to do that this time but I are loads of veg and exercised lots so will follow these principles too.

I really don't care about not eating treats etc if I can conceive. I'm going to put all my energy into healthy, clean eating.

toffeeboffin · 03/01/2016 20:06

P. S. I'll be 34 in Feb. DH is 40.

I'm conscious of the ticking clock, I am definitely tired quicker now I'm older, feel more knackered easily. Which is why I reckon sleep, good food, water and little caffeine or alcohol is the way forward.

Had a huge salmon and avocado spinach salad for lunch with homemade leek and potato soup. It'll be harder once i'm back at work to eat so healthily though. Will focus on good snacks, almonds, boiled eggs, fruit etc.

Will try to batch cook too to make it easier.

bobcat85 · 03/01/2016 20:20

TheresaMarie - absolutely hehe. Wish I had more control over the situation but nevermind.

Loki - Sorry for your loss.

TheresaMarie55 · 03/01/2016 20:38

Toffee, I want to lose weight but also just want to be healthier. I definitely feel better and have more energy when I'm eating well and with a three and one year old the energy is needed! Im making big batches of Smoothies mix and stir fry veg, freezing them in freezer bags and then just pulling them out the night before. X

fridaylady7 · 03/01/2016 20:52

Hi all,

I'd like to join! We're starting to try from next month. I'm 30, DH is 35 and we got married last Spring.

Due to a suspected hormonal imbalance revealed by a scan, I started temping last month, just to confirm ovulation. Thankfully, I'm ovulating, so now it's just to start trying.
I'm kind of torn between the whole 'wait to try, enjoy your marriage first' and the 'just get on with it, babies are a joy not a problem'. I'm far more inclined to go with the latter!
Also I think I'm more likely to be relaxed as this thread describes if I'm not panicking and wished we'd started sooner!
So apart from EWCM and temping, that'll be it for us - do let me know if that excludes me from the relaxed group! Lol. Good luck ladies. Looking forward to seeing how this thread develops!

Writerwannabe83 · 03/01/2016 22:19

Loki - I'm so sorry to hear of your miscarriage, how utterly awful and sad for you x x

pointless - I'm hoping I won't have to wait long to see the Epilepsy Nurse, I'm seeing my GP to mirror to get the referral done. I'm also going to ask about having my Mirena taken out. Exciting times.

Regarding folic acid, I was told to take 5mg for 3 months before even starting TTC so I had good stores in my system.

TheresaMarie55 · 03/01/2016 22:36

Thanks for that writer. I think I will get some fix acid next month and start taking them. Won't be ttc until very late March at the earliest (more likely April) but can't do any harm taking them a few months before x

toffeeboffin · 04/01/2016 00:59

Theresa, that's a great idea, freezing smoothie mix! Never thought of that.

toffeeboffin · 04/01/2016 01:01

Just realised 'temping' is taking temperature, not just short term office job contracts! Grin

You learn something new every day.

tspika1981 · 04/01/2016 01:28

Hello! I'm in a similar boat – starting 2016 by no longer avoiding it…but not exactly "trying" to do anything (beyond being a bit less rubbish with what I eat and drink).

I've been drinking tons and eating delicious terrible things ALL THE TIME for forever so it'll be good on the health front if nothing else. I'm finally ready to admit that perhaps I can no longer eat like my skinny 14-year-old self anymore.

stumblymonkey · 04/01/2016 06:44

Welcome all the new people....some threads are awesome at welcoming each person individually but I may as well confess now that I'm unlikely to be organised enough to do that!

Sorry for your losses Loki and Toffee...Thanks

Sadly I think we all have to prepare for potential miscarriages....I have a friend though who has just had a baby after five miscarriages in one year so it's nice to know that story personally to help stay relaxed that an MC and even multiple MC's can still end in a BFP.
