Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

This is my first week of DTD with the aim of conceiving! DH is away overnight on Thurs so I've said we definitely have to DTD on Weds and Friday Grin I'm like a kid at Christmas so blimmin excited!!!

AliceScarlett · 07/02/2016 19:59

He he :) Warning: the 2ww can feel like Forever. I thought I was cool about it, about 2dpo I was going mad Blush

SoozC · 08/02/2016 13:03

Currently just starting my 2ww. I didn't want to be obsessive but it's so hard not to! Temp every day, tablets for conception care, tracking symptoms... Phew!

stumblymonkey · 08/02/2016 13:31

I'm determined this 2WW to do no symptom spotting and no testing unless my AF is late.

Otherwise I'm going to become seriously neurotic if last month was anything to go by Grin

It's hard though when I'm a naturally impatient control freak!

Hi everyone, I hope you don't mind me joining?

I have been following your thread for a little while and decided to brave it!

I have been off my pill for nearly 18 months now but have been using other methods. Since coming off I have been diagnosed with PCOS and put on metformin. So far this seems to be improving my cycles so hopefully that is positive although they are not regular by any means. We have finally agreed to start trying after my next period though which is really exciting, but I am just trying to hold on to the idea that it may not be very easy.

Anyone have any advise they might be able to offer?

Thanks!

Hiya fellow relaxed-about-it-all ladies!

We aren't TTC quite yet, but will be less strict about prevention until April and will be TTC from May. We have a 20 month old little girl and I was hoping for a late winter/spring baby next time around because I just imagine that mat leave over summer will be soooo much better without a colicky newborn. Save the colicky newborn phase for when it's cold out and I just want to hibernate anyways Wink. So in that sense conceiving any time from April-July would be great!

I've not actually read much of the thread, will do now and see what everyone else is up to.

wispaxmas · 08/02/2016 16:30

@Devgal, very exciting, I'm sorry about the PCOS diagnosis, it seems like it's pretty common these days. I know several women with it and ALL of them have gotten pregnant. One of them fell pregnant without even realising it shortly after her diagnosis, and she ended up finding out because she had cramping and they did a transvaginal scan and saw the foetus!

Anyways, I don't have any practical advice to offer if you already know that OPKs won't work. Temping is great, though. Just be sure that you move as little as possible before taking it every morning and keep it as close to the same time as always. My chart was VERY clockwork the month I temped and I know others had erratic ones because they temped at different time and sometimes after standing up. Literally only move to grab the thermometer and shove it in your mouth. Get one with a memory on it if you can, so if you temp half asleep you can check it later and enter it into your chart then. Also, if you have a big night out excessive drinking will make your temp spike like MAD. Don't let that stop you having a life, though, just disregard the temp that day. HTH!

On the subject of prams and slings, I have to say that you don't know what your child will like until you find out. My DD never used the carrycot on her bugaboo because she hated lying flat. Sadly she ALSO hated the infant car seat, but like the 0+/1 seat that you can't carry them around in. She switched to her pushchair seat at 12 weeks and like it much better than the carrycot. We had a series of slings - a wrap and three different soft structured carriers. She had phases of loving and hating them and I would often have to take her out in the pushchair with the sling as a back up and switch her between the two for variety or she would have a melt down (This stopped around 7 months, though). We have never had to fold down the pushchair on the bus, though. It's definitely worth having if just to carry the shopping Grin. And if you're after a carrier I HIGHLY recommend a Tula!

Devgal · 08/02/2016 17:56

Thanks Wispaxmas.

Yeah I'm trying to not worry too much about it yet as without actually trying I won't know if it's an issue. I started taking Pregnacare in the new year, is there a better supplement anyone would suggest?

Looking forward to following what everyone is up to!

dynia · 08/02/2016 19:08

I went to the nurse for my smear today and she was so sweet when I told her we were starting TTC in March!

mangocoveredlamb · 08/02/2016 20:15

I fear I may be about to fall off the relaxed bit!
I ordered OPKs and preg tests from Amazon Blush

Cateroo · 08/02/2016 20:34

I got the Smile on the OPK this evening. Exciting!

mangocoveredlamb · 08/02/2016 20:52

Mine are being delivered to the Amazon locker near work tomorrow, as I think tomorrow is O-day and I'd like to double check!!

wispaxmas · 08/02/2016 22:57

I never got a +OPK last time, but temps told me I ovulated on CD 14/15, so pretty average. I don't mind having fewer piss sticks!!

stumblymonkey · 09/02/2016 07:12

If I'm not upduffed this month I will fall off the relaxed wagon...only because I have reason to think I might have PCOS so will purchase OPKs and take my temperature next month to check whether I'm actually ovulating or not.

Would rather know now if I'm not even ovulating than find out in 12 months time! Especially as there is a medication you can take to resolve the issue....

Pointlessfan · 09/02/2016 07:15

Just checking in. I came on yesterday earlier than I was expecting so I've obviously worked out something wrong somewhere along the line!

Devgal · 09/02/2016 08:58

Oh sorry Pointlessfan. Are you temping or anything?

TheresaMarie55 · 09/02/2016 10:25

Hi everyone, I'm still lurking and trying to keep up on here. Just popping on now and then though as I don't want it to be on my mind all the time as I've still two and a half packs of pills to go. I know it's the right thing for us to wait and am doing well with the weight loss so am happy to wait a while longer. Weigh day tomorrow, hoping for 2lbs off.

Having a big party for my birthday in April, birthday is the 13th party the 15th. Cannot believe the luck, I will be taking my last pill on the 15th! So I'll be secretly celebrating that to! I also know I'll be safe to have a drink then as I'll have the week that's normally the break between pills then I just won't take more. My family is aware we want another but they think I'm coming off the pill in the summer x

wispaxmas · 09/02/2016 11:51

Stumbly, that was me last time temping. I only did it to double check that everything was working as normal and it was alright. FX this is your month, though, it's a bit annoying having to wake up and take a temp every morning at the same time!

AliceScarlett · 09/02/2016 13:20

Devgal I take the Superdrug pregnacare vits, literally the same, just much cheaper!

Good point about slings/prams wispa

I thought consistent tempting told you more about ovulation then OPKS? Don't OPKS just pick up the LSH surge where the body is gearing up to ov, but doesn't show the rise is progesterone that you can see in the thermal temp shift?
Idk I'm fully converted to fertility friend now, if I've not conceived in a few months I'll temp and put it all in FF.

Doing quite well with charting CM and position though, can't believe how soft it is during the FW, who would have thought rooting around in my foof would be so illuminating Grin

AliceScarlett · 09/02/2016 13:20

in*

wispaxmas · 09/02/2016 14:57

Lol, Alice, I tried rooting around last time and could never reach anything, I must have short fingers. Still, definitely not something I'm going to attempt this time round. Keeping tabs on CM is grim enough. Temping is definitely the only way to tell if you're ACTUALLY ovulating, but unless you have an underlying condition it's fairly safe to say that if you see the signs you're ovulating fine. I temped because I had a moment of panic after a couple months and decided I was actually anovulatory. Now I know I'm not (the proof is currently napping), I don't feel the need to temp. I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to be sure everything is working as it should.

mangocoveredlamb · 09/02/2016 17:10

Help keep me relaxed.
All the apps say today is O day, but the opk is a big fat empty...

AliceScarlett · 09/02/2016 18:05

Did you opk in the afternoon after holding wee in for a good few hours?

Can you dtd just incase?

AliceScarlett · 09/02/2016 18:05

Any other fertility signs? Have a rummage! Wink
