Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Hi everyone! Hope it's ok to join. Hi Loki!!

I had a mmc on 5/1 and am just waiting for my first period before TTC again. It has been really tough but I'm feeling ready to look forward again now. I don't want to obsess though so glad I found this thread :) got my BFP on first cycle last time (we started TTC mid cycle and I thought I'd already ovulated that month). It was a huge shock as I had major surgery in 2011 for pancreatic tumour and my body really struggled afterwards. I thought it would take ages to conceive if it was still a little imbalanced for that reason.

Want to build my strength up again and lose a few pounds if possible!

thisisbloodyridiculous · 24/01/2016 03:12

Hello fellow newbies! I am awake and up at 3 am (haven't been to bed yet) as I've a stonking head cold that means if I lie down I feel like my head might explode! Supposed to be honeymooning it up but not so much haha! Instead trying to get post wedding stuff sorted - but instead sat here looking up baby names and daydreaming about being up at this time for a good reason (to see to a tiny little person!). I might be a bit crackers forgive me Grin

Pointlessfan · 24/01/2016 12:35

Nice to see more new faces.
I'm not doing any tests until my period is late. Just enjoying the erm... fun part of TTC for now!

latinata · 24/01/2016 12:46

Morning all, hope you are having nice Sundays! Just needed to share the hilarity of being in a cottage with the in-laws and trying to keep DTD regularly. Turns out DH doesn't find the presence of his mother on the other side of the wall hugely arousing! So obviously I'm super chilled out, i.e. You need to get over it!

Having initially decided to be very low-key, not use opks etc, having had very irregular cycles I'm now quite keen on OPking to (hopefully) make me more sane. I got a positive OPK test yesterday on CD23 (obvs much later than anyone with a regular cycle). Had I not been testing I would have concluded that I hadn't O'd this month (and of course still might not) and probably geared up for a few rounds of cocktails!

Very amused by the number of comments about researching things like a loon- I'm exactly the same, and have given up caring what my work browsing history looks like to anyone in the IT department! Maybe they will learn a thing or two...

Lemon27 · 24/01/2016 16:27

Happy Sunday everyone! Was out for a few drinks last night so slightly delicate today 😬

I have just had my between pill 'period' the past few days and starting my last pill pack this week. It's going to be weird next month not starting a new pack! Starting to really come around to the idea now, I bought decaf tea as I was being really good on green tea in work but was having normal tea at home so gonna start making little changes like that so fingers crossed when I get pregnant I will be already living the healthier life!

Just thought of something, we have a family wedding in Spain in October that we've booked flights for. I know you're not supposed to fly if you are pregnant in your last trimester (which I should be fine as not even starting to 'try' till around May) but are you ok to fly between 0-6 months??!

stumblymonkey · 24/01/2016 20:29

Welcome Jen and Mel!!!

Lemon....I found this advice about flying...how many weeks might you be if you conceived straight away?

Most airlines will not allow you to travel after week 36 of pregnancy, or week 32 if you're pregnant with twins or multiples.**
If you're planning on travelling by plane, you should discuss this with your midwife or GP.

Before you book your tickets, check with your airline and insurance company that they will allow you to travel while pregnant. After week 28 of the pregnancy, most airlines require a letter from your midwife or GP confirming:
• that you're in good health
• that you have a normal pregnancy
• the expected date of delivery

What a lovely welcome! Thank you! I'm totally over eating and drinking lots of Coke at the moment, think my hormones are everywhere with the recent miscarriage.

Need to try get healthy though - new week tomorrow...

stumblymonkey · 24/01/2016 21:26

Sorry to hear about your mc Mel... Thanks

I did a couple of weeks of eating very healthily, then fell off the wagon and ate like a pig in a growth spurt last week...so back to healthy eating tomorrow!

Lemon, I flew short haul when18 weeks pregnant with ds, it was a high risk pregnancy and the doctors and midwifes thought it was absolutely fine.

I'm really wavering about when to start trying, April is our first chance but I seem to keep finding reasons why it should be afterwards. Need to get it straight in my head, as with ds we couldn't pick the time as I went to the preconception clinic for 10 months waiting for them to give me the ok and then just went for it when they did, but this time they have just said whenever you are ready and it feels weird having a choice.

AliceScarlett · 25/01/2016 01:02

Vanilla, I can see how it would be in a way a bit more difficult now you have a choice, I guess if there isn't much choice you just go with what you have to do. What are the reasons to wait til after April?

Our thread is growing , its going to be exciting when all our bfp's happen (very soon of course) 1st one happened 1st cycle, here's hoping we all have similar luck :)

latinata I had Ovia open on my tablet when a colleague walked past last week, opps, but researching certainly makes the day go quicker. I read "The impatient womans guide to getting pregnant", it took the Relaxed attitude and threw it right out the window once I realised each month there is only a 12-24 hour window to concieve in Hmm

In other news I've got tonsillitis so all my symptom spotting is well and truly null and void. I'm avoiding sudafed and ibuprofen just in case.

Had such a good day on Saturday, DH and I have finally got round to redecorating the spare room and it makes sense to keep in mind that it could be a nursery within a year so we were in IKEA looking at all the baby furniture, I was soooo excited, I know the baby doesn't exist yet but it made it all so real. IKEA do a welsh dresser type changing table, I will buy this, positive attitude today regardless of the fact that I'm too ill to sleep, its 1am and I have to get up in 6 hours for work. Bleurgh, maybe not actually..... I'd take a sleeping pill but I might be preg and I need to get used to life without medication.

stumblymonkey · 25/01/2016 07:23

Alice...I like the sound of that changing table

I've started getting some brown spotting which I usually get for a few days before AF so pretty sure I will be on cycle number two soon! We didn't really try this month though...next month we will be DTD every other day through the ovulation period.

I'm going to read that article.

On the upside although you only have a 12-24 hour period to conceive sperm can live inside you for a few days....there's around a 20-25% chance of getting pregnant in any one cycle for a woman in her 20's and up to 35 is about 15-20% if I remember correctly.

Oops....fingers slipped and bought some maternity clothes from eBay ConfusedBlush

There were some lovely Isabella Oliver pieces on there and I couldn't help myself. Trying to buy as much as possible second hand as saving for house deposit and maternity leave!

OP posts:
latinata · 25/01/2016 12:51

Haha, stumbly, I have been scouring ASOS and GAP all weekend! Not yet bought anything as I think DH would think I had gone totally mad, although probably wouldn't really notice, to be fair...

Alice, did your colleague notice, do you think?!

I think I'm just about in the 2ww although not sure exactly whether I have O'd yet. My latest panic is that we have a holiday in Mexico in mid-Feb and all of the Zika stuff is really terrifying. I should be able to test before we leave and confirm BFP/BFN, but if BFN then trying in Feb (in romantic Mexico hotels) is out, as I think Zika can stay in your system for up to three weeks. Then DH and I not in the same country until April. And if I got a BFP this month... a lot of thinking will be needed!!

Lemon, as I live overseas I've got quite a few flights this year and am having similiar thoughts. I have a flight in early September so didn't start ttc in Jan just in case, but think I would now comfortably be in the window of time which stumbly mentioned. Then if things got more complicated for any reason I'd just ditch the trip.

Sorry my posts always seems like mini essays all!! Happy Monday :-)

stumblymonkey · 25/01/2016 13:58

Latin...I'm going to sneak the stuff in and hide it away Grin

I've previously been pregnant and DP got a previous girlfriend pregnant (both unwanted pregnancies in our late 20s...not the right people, not the right time)...so technically we should be able to conceive. I think that knowledge is making a little over-confident that it's not going to take years and years and so buying some bargainous maternity wear is fine.

It will be absolute Sod's law that it doesn't happen. But I guess if that's the case selling some maternity wear on eBay will seem the least of my worries.

The whole Zika thing had passed me by...I had to google...I've probably been too wrapped up in conception research to pay attention. How awful for mothers/want to be mothers over there...! Like you say...you can test this month and then make a decision from there...

So I'm trying to start my healthy eating. Trying to stay hydrated (without caffeine) and eat more fruit and veg. I've had a banana, veg soup, garlic potatoes and a clementine. Not all together I promise! Hopefully a good nights sleep tonight.

TheresaMarie55 · 25/01/2016 20:03

Hi ladies, hope everyone is well. I finished my January pills on Friday. Pick a new box up on Wednesday and once they're gone I won't be taking any more! My pills will run out on the 16th of april, three days after my birthday. Works out quite nicely as it means I can have a drink if I fancy it on my birthday. Also means that even if we did conceive first time the earliest my due date would be is late January so not to close to Christmas. don't want to wish the next three months away but hard not to keep wanting April to hurry up!

Hope everyone is else is well, good luck to all those already trying. X

Lemon27 · 25/01/2016 21:23

Thanks Stumbly, Vanilla and Latinata...pretty sure I wouldn't be past that week so presuming flying up to that point would be fine. We might also have a trip in September so could be just a few months then fingers crossed. Friends of ours are finalising plans for their wedding in South America next March/April which we were so excited about hopefully going to but to be honest I can't really see it happening now if all goes as planned, going to have to wait and see.

I had a lovely swim today and made some dishes from a new cookbook I got at Xmas....vegan bread and brownies. Both surprisingly lovely and meant I had 2 brownies for dessert tonight with zero guilt! Going to try a lot more in the next while, keep up the healthy buzz!

Stumbly you are so funny buying maternity clothes already! I will google that brand...nothing wrong with being prepared! And Alice...definitely will check out ikea baby stuff too....I can see how looking at this stuff will get addictive!

AliceScarlett · 25/01/2016 21:35

Well done everyone with the healthy eating, mines gone out the window, I just want carbs when I'm ill, but I need to gain so its good overall. Don't think chinese takeaway is on the fertility diet though Grin meh.

Vegan brownies sound amazing!

Does anyone else have a cat litter tray in the house? I'm worrying about mine, nhs says to change it every day and wash it with hot water :/ DH is just not that organised.

stumblymonkey · 25/01/2016 22:25

I almost 'fessed up to DP about buying some maternity wear when he asked me all about my day.

Then thought...nah...this is the kind of crazy shit you need to keep to yourself Stumbly GrinGrinGrin

stumblymonkey · 25/01/2016 22:28

Alice...I have two kitties and yes, a litter tray.

I found this booklet which put my mind at rest a lot!

I have 4 cats and 5 litter trays - I read Expecting Better which covered the risks which are really very small so I'm not worried! OH empties them anyway Wink
Really recommend that book though!

We went looking at kitchens and bathrooms today ready for extension layer this year. Very excited. May have lingered in the children's furniture section of ikea - I love their stuff too Grin

AliceScarlett · 26/01/2016 07:24

Then thought...nah...this is the kind of crazy shit you need to keep to yourself Stumbly

Pahaha! That made me laugh.

Thanks for the leaflet, that is helpful.

5 litter trays Shock excellent work having them as OH's job Wink

That's the 'trouble' with IKEA you have to walk through the children's section. Shame.
We finished off the spare room yesterday, it's sparse ATM but I have in my head exactly where all the nursery furniture will go Blush.

Pointlessfan · 26/01/2016 07:39

We have a cat and litter tray. Dealing with it was DH's job when I was pregnant with DD and has remained so ever since - result!
If my calculations are correct I'm ovulating today. Poor DH will be pounced on the second DD is in bed tonight (sure he won't mind really!).
Last time I was ttc we dtd every other day in ovulation week and I got pregnant first time trying so trying that tactic again!
Have agreed to a weekend away with friends in May which promises to be quite drunken so if I'm not pregnant by then I'm consoling myself with that to look forward to!

stumblymonkey · 26/01/2016 18:27

Will definitely work on 'forgetting' to pick up cat litter duties post-pregnancy.

DP relies on me for research so I might just tell him I can't do it while breastfeeding. That gives me some more time to think of a reason I can't do it after that!

Hi everyone. I came on today, ugh, looking forward to no more af! Weigh day for me tomorrow, hate the week I'm on though as I never seem to lose as much even if I've been really good. I've been 100% on it though, really got it in my head I'm doing it this time. The fact I'm coming off the pill in April is spurring me on more, great motivation! X
