Relaxed TTC Feb/March/April 2016

Hi,

We've just agreed to start TTC #1 in March so just starting to look at preparing for that - prenatal vitamins, losing some weight, etc.

I'm 33 and have only been with my OH for just over a year but we're both sure this is the relationship for us...we'll be getting married but want TTC as a priority and fit any wedding around Mother Nature.

Not planning any temp checking or charting or such like....maybe I'll change my mind if I'm not preggers after six months or so!

Anyone planning TTC about the same time and want to keep in touch on this thread for relaxed catch ups about preparing and then TTC?

Sarah X

Welcome newcomers!
I keep forgetting to take my folic acid.
soozc pregnant women do gain around 2 stone but that includes the baby, amniotic fluid and even extra blood. I lost it really quickly - mixture of breastfeeding and long daily walks with the pram. Remember that when the baby is born you lose about 7-10 pounds instantly!

thisisbloodyridiculous · 20/01/2016 10:20

I take a B vitamin complex tablet that has folic acid but only half the recommended amount if TTC so I've ordered some Seven Seas TTC tablets to start taking in Feb :) also ordered a few tests...!!

AliceScarlett · 20/01/2016 10:41

I'm taking the superdrug conception and pregnancy vits, slightly more expensive but they are pretty much a multivitamin and folic acid without the vit A.

Ugh this 2ww is killing me, could I moan anymore? Hmm Thua morning I was googling CM after ovulation...why?? I don't need to know that. Just obsessing ATM.

stumblymonkey · 20/01/2016 11:17

Lemon...do you mean Berocca or something else?

Alice...I think I might have gone crazy already. I'm already having psychosomatic symptoms and peeing on sticks waaaaay earlier than it would show anything. Keep telling myself to calm down otherwise I'll drive myself mad if it takes a while!

DP was a bit shellshocked, Alice. It didn't help that he didn't get home until after 8.30pm, I'd been holding the news in for so long that I just blurted it out at him when he was talking about groceries. He fell asleep looking at baby clothes on the internet.

I'm kind of envious of you all with your weight loss. I'd been intending to lose a couple more kgs before we started to ttc. Oh well, I guess the good outweighs the bad, here! Well done Theresa and Jenny.

stumblymonkey · 20/01/2016 14:35

I go to boot camp at my boyfriend's gym on Weds morning. I have to get up at 5.50am and it was -6. I was tired and cold and therefore the most petulant child while he was trying to train me. Grin

So, I know I am a bit late in joining this thread, but thought I'd go for it anyway. Am 33 and have been TTC for over a year now, for the first 6 months we said I would just come off the pill and let nature take its course for a while, but had no joy. Then I got an app to track my days etc and tried that for a couple months and no joy either (apart from one really heartbreaking false alarm). Since then have been using OPK along with my app.

Am currently half way through the 2WW and today have started feeling some mild cramping, which isn't normal for my cycle

stumblymonkey · 20/01/2016 16:52

Hi snowy We're the same age! How have you been finding the OPKs? Have you been ovulating at the time the app estimates?

Sad times for me at the dentist today. Not a big fan of the dentist so haven't been for about three years and I need loads of work done.....they've quoted £2.5k!!!!!!! SadSadSad

Hi stumbly, OPK seem to be spot on for me, since coming off pill have had very regular 28 day cycles, apart from the one false alarm mention above which was 36 days. Have been referred for tests and just had day 21 this test this week, so hopefully hear back from that soon.

Ouch on the dentist bill

latinata · 20/01/2016 17:58

Hello all. I've very much enjoyed reading this thread over the last few days and decided to plunge in for the first time. I'm 30, TTC #1, cycle #1. I've been off the pill for 6 months (and can't recommend enough coming off it early if you know you're going to start trying at a particular future point- I've had some very irregular cycle lengths but now after 6 months getting a bit more predictable). Really enjoying the overall chilled out vibe you all have! I've got a great app called 'Clue' which has taught me far more about my body and cycle than I've ever known before!

Just decided this cycle to stop all contraception and see what happens. Not the world's best timing given a very long visit from the in-laws at the moment, but at least it's a creative challenge! Am on CD20.

Stumbly- I might be wrong, but don't you get free dental treatment on the NSH when prego? Might be worth trying to postpone if you can!

stumblymonkey · 20/01/2016 18:19

Hi latinata....welcome to the thread!

Sadly I can't get an NHS dentist around here....the waiting lists are crazy long to get NHS treatment and/or they're refusing to take on anymore NHS patients.

My parents live in Stoke so I'm going to give their dentist a call and see if I can get it done cheaper there as if I can I'll go and stay with them and get it done!

Stumbly - Berocca! That's the one! Thanks I couldn't think of it!

Good luck to the ladies on the 2ww!

latinata · 20/01/2016 18:44

Stumbly.. that is a complete pain! I'm sure we can all think of much better things to spend 2.5K on!!

Thanks for the welcome!

Pointlessfan · 20/01/2016 19:58

£2.5k - blimey! You get free dental treatment when pregnant, can you hold off for a bit??

stumblymonkey · 20/01/2016 21:22

Pointless....it's only free on the NHS and you can't get a dentist on the NHS around here for love nor money.

Also my dentist said today he wouldn't recommend having any dental work done during the first trimester so I really need to get the two most urgent things (extraction and crown) out of the way asap!

Me again! Not at all pregnancy related but we got a brand new bed, mattress, white company mattress topper and bedding delivered today.

We've had an 18 year old bed up until now so cannot bloody wait to get in it!!! DP made me double pinky promise not to try it out before he gets home Grin

Can't believe how excited I am about a bed, and to think a couple of years ago excitement would have meant being kicked out of a bar at 3am

OP posts:
AliceScarlett · 21/01/2016 19:25

Oo new bed :) ikwym, I'm very excited about my new sofa...beats getting drunk in clubs any day!

DH is out, I'm going to go freak myself out and watch one born every minute.

Pointlessfan · 21/01/2016 19:35

That's rubbish about the dentist stumbly Sad

stumblymonkey · 22/01/2016 09:08

How are other people's DH/DPs about the whole thing?

The gender(?) or maybe personality divide in our case is huge. DP is super laid back so is just going about his usual life with a vague background thought that at some point we might get lucky.

I, on the other hand, am reading pregnancy books, researching conception, making lists of everything we need for a baby, choosing nursery decor ideas, mumsnetting like a loon, etc, etc

OP posts:
Avriljen · 22/01/2016 09:18

Hi stumbly!
My dh is taking conception vitamins but that's it, although he did let slip that he'd thought of some names he likes! So I think he is secretly thinking about it, I think guys are maybe never outwardly excited.
But I also am not doing too much, I'm on here (I now have a mn addiction!) and I'm tracking on ovia but trying not to get too ahead of myself just in case it doesn't happen. I know I'll be so frustrated if it doesn't happen quickly that it would just be worse if I had picked out nursery ideas and read up all about pregnancy stages. I think I'll just take it as it comes!

Avriljen · 22/01/2016 09:19

We do talk about it quite a lot though, tends to be when we're out walking dog so not a sit down discussion, much more casual!

AliceScarlett · 22/01/2016 09:32

My DH is chilled about it, I'm the one researching like a loon. He just looks forward to me letting him know when the fertile time is upon us Hmm

snowy1982 · 22/01/2016 09:51

DH is outwardly being very calm about, it's his way of trying to keep my crazy in check, but I know him and I know that it is something he is worrying about, we have been TTC for over 12 months and I know it is worrying him. Also his SA is looming so I know, as much as he is trying to hide it, he is freaking about that. Also he just isn't a person who gets very excited about things. I know if we are ever lucky enough to get the BFP he will be delighted, but excitement won't kick in until I'm in labour, that's just the way he is. I on the other hand get excited/worked up/worried so easily, so it's good I have him to reign me in

isthatpoisontoo · 22/01/2016 13:00

My DP was quite engaged from the moment we decided we want kids. We chose names months ago. He did a fair bit of research on his own to prepare to TTC (turns out that wasn't needed!) and he told me yesterday that he's chosen the pram!

DP is very into preparation, I think that's great but he seems to have skipped ahead nine months. I'd find it really hard to be with someone who was laid back about important things, although I can see the advantages in theory.

What's an SA, snowy? I'm obviously not up on the lingo.
