TTC #1 after miscarriage - looking for some buddies

Clareinthemiddle · 29/08/2015 13:29

I have been ttc for 10 months. I'm 34.
Took it very easy the first few months and then went for it with OPKs, no caffeine, reduced alcohol and got my BFP in May, but sadly mmc at 12 weeks (a few days before my scan). The little thing had not made it past 5.5 weeks :(
Took July off to recover and then back on it again in August. Heard/read a lot about increased fertility the few months after a miscarriage so was really convinced August would be my month, but af arrived yesterday. Absolutely devastated.
Can feel a very lonely place, especially as I either have friends who conceived within 1-3 months, or those who always knew they would have issues so started with IVF a few years back and have thankfully all been successful. I guess I just thought I would have an easy ride, as my sisters did, but no such luck.
Thought it would be nice to share the journey with others dealing with similar situations or with success stories after a miscarriage. Please say hello :)

oh, frankie, sorry AF showed up - if nothing else, it's a sign that everything hormonal is probably working as it should. salute your positivity!

brenna your families sound lovely, your beans are going to be very lucky!

hi panda, god, what a horrible time you've had of it. you definitely deserve some good news soon. but you're definitely not alone, we all get it.

april and northern, you guys must still be in, right? i'm on CD27 here, no signs whatsoever of AF but also no signs at all of being pg. like, zero. i just want to get this cycle over and done without too much craziness, but that might be too much to hope for post MC!

Pandapop1 · 16/11/2015 15:50

Thanks for kind words ladies. It's taken me 3 years to actually join in the discussions, although have read the threads a lot. Glad I have now :)

Clarab0w My cycles have always gone a bit crazy after miscarriages. I was recommended milk thistle by a nutritionist and despite being really sceptical it did actually regulate things. Not totally clear on the science but something to do with your hormones being processed by your liver.

I've also tried acupuncture in the past and that helped too.

I think I just liked the idea of being able to do something. Having a miscarriage can make you feel really disempowered and out of control of your own body.

DancingAngel15 · 16/11/2015 17:24

Cycle day 10 2days to fertile window according to ovia !
I was away the weekend so couldn't do my ovulation tests as I was sharing a room with others & am quite a private person !
I will do tommorow :-)

Still BD last night when I came home so hopefully ov is soon and I could catch it!

Feeling positive this month !

Hope everyone is well

Turi1983 · 16/11/2015 17:35

mascaraisamust, Rhodes andsundayraspberry hurrah – so pleased for you all Grin.

frankiepants1 sorry to hear about your BFN Sad.

AF came Saturday 7 November and I saw the gynaecologist for the aqua scan on Friday 13 (it was horrible - I passed out!). He has confirmed that I have a submucosal fibroid. He suspects I had a second miscarriage a couple of months ago. He doesn’t know if the fibroid is the cause of the miscarriage(s) but he said I should get it removed before TTC. Seeing another specialist on Thursday and will hopefully book in surgery asap. Thank goodness I have private medical insurance.

I’ve been under general twice already this year – tore my ACL and had a knee reconstruction in April and then the ERPC in July. Let’s hope 2016 is kinder.

TTC is obviously on “pause” for me as I’ve no idea when I can start trying again after surgery but I will drop in now and again to see how you’re all doing.

Northernlight22 · 16/11/2015 20:57

Turi here's to a much better 2016! Take care of yourself!

Brenna24 · 16/11/2015 22:16

Turi, that scan sounds awful. I hope that they can take the fibroid out sooner rather than later. Modern generals are a lot safer. I am sure you will be fine. I can understand not wanting another though.

I had a huge cramp about lunchtime today. I have no idea whether it was just a random pre-AF cramp or an implantation one. I suspect AF is due about thursday this week and I had a few cramps yesterday and some again this evening. I also have that over-hot, clammy feeling that I had the month I conceived. Which was the thing that made me test. Although this time it is coming and going, not permanent.

Clareinthemiddle · 16/11/2015 23:07

Sorry af reared her ugly head Frankie.

God Turi sounds awful, but brilliant that you're being treated!

Welcome Panda and sorry for your losses. Joining in with these other ladies really helps. It's a great place to vent your anger and fears.

Fingers crossed Clara, Brenna and all you others who are nearing the end of the 2ww XX

Clara yup still in, CD31 and no AF yet, going to try and wait until tomorrow or Thurs morning to take another test.

Hugs Turi that sounds awful, I don't know what an aqua scan is but I'm not sure I want to. Glad you're getting some treatment though and hopefully some answers that will lead to sticky babies in the future :)

brenna fx these are signs again, it's so hard not to read into every feeling isn't it? I keep trying to remember feelings I had before but I think I'm alot more aware of my body now and so keep overthinking things.

Welcome to all new ladies, sorry you're here but you are very welcome. xx

Sophia1984 · 17/11/2015 09:57

Just went to get blood taken for thyroid test and first thing nurse said was 'So you're pregnant then?' Is it too much to expect that EPAU could tell GP I miscarried?!

Clarab0w · 17/11/2015 10:14

panda i completely know what you mean about wanting to just feel like there's something positive you can do to help your body out. i'm having weekly acupuncture at the moment too, but will def look into milk thistle - taking so many bloody pills and potions i feel like a science experiment but if anything helps, i'm game to try it!

turi the procedure sounds like it was horrible, and so sorry you're facing yet another medical scenario. but really, really pleased you've got a diagnosis and can start tackling it now. you'll be back on the tic wagon in no time. keep us posted on how you're getting on?

brenna and aprilshowers - sounds v positive for you guys - here's hoping for some BFPs!

thanks for the lovely wishes clare but pretty sure i'm out this month! i'm on CD28, AF would usually be due tomorrow but ovia's telling me thursday. hormones no doubt still all over the shop so not really sure what to expect. backache and cramps last night and this morning but feeling fine now. hormonal hijinks... but clare, how are you getting on? feeling relaxed and happy i hope? Smile

Turi1983 · 17/11/2015 10:26

clareinthemiddle it’s so good of you to keep posting. How are you feeling?

brenna24, aprileshowers16 and clarab0w keeping everything crossed for you. Keep us posted!

sophia1984 I can’t believe your GP wasn’t informed. So insensitive.

Thanks for all your kind words. An aqua scan is where a catheter is introduced through your cervix and saline solution is inserted into your uterus so the sonographer can get a 3D view of your uterus. It wasn’t painful but a very odd sensation hence passing out. Feeling a bit apprehensive about my appointment on Thursday – want it over and done with to be honest.

Had a big cry yesterday. When I was told by the EPAU that I was miscarrying I paid for a scan with a private practice just to be sure. I received a letter from them yesterday reminding me to schedule my 28 week scan… I called and told them I was completely appalled that they hadn’t updated their records and they weakly said, ‘you must have slipped through the net, sorry’. It brought the awful memories of the scan itself… a stupid sonographer who said, ‘you’re young, it’s fine’… ‘enjoy the time off [whilst you’re miscarrying]… your friends and family will be jealous you’re off work when the weather is so nice’.

AprilShowers16 · 17/11/2015 10:34

Turi Enjoy the time off? What the hell is wrong with people? And same for Sophia these people do thsi for their JOB you think they could be a little moer organised and proactive in ensuring they're not furthering their patients pain at an already difficult time. Sorry that you've both had these experiances

To add something positive I had a very good experiance at the EPAU, they were brilliant throughout, the Dr we saw at the 1st scan happily took my dh's call at the weekend when I was in a lot of pain and although there wasn't anything she could do it was reassuring to know we could talk to her.

Really wanting to take another test in my lunchbreak but know that not testing on a first wee is a bad idea

MaudGonneMad · 17/11/2015 12:02

Has anyone asked for tests at the GP? If so, what ones and have you had any luck in getting them to agree?

I think I asked at the hospital if the GP could run any tests, but they just kind of fobbed me off and said not really, but I would love to do something. Feel so helpless and like im just waiting to conceive so I can miscarry again Sad

Sophia1984 · 17/11/2015 14:26

I think the standard advice for doctors is that they have to wait till you've had 3 miscarriages in a row before they do further tests. Maybe if there is a specific condition you suspect you might have, you could ask for tests for that (like if you have other symptoms like painful periods they could check for endometriosis). It's so frustrating not feeling in charge of your own healthcare. Hopefully there is no issue and it's just been bad luck and you'll be fine next time x

Vap0 · 17/11/2015 15:33

turi that just sounds awful! I can't believe these people are so insensitive.

So good news here today! Bfp in the vap household. Frer at 10dpo. So excited but also terrified of it happening again. 3 weeks and 3 days pregnant. I'm going to see the Dr at 4.10 to see if they will give me any progesterone to try to help this one along. I'm absolutely on a cloud but also scared every time I go to the loo. Dp doesn't want me getting too excited. Not sure how not?

So, just for other ladies who scour threads like this in hopes for answers of how long might it take to get that bfp again. Well the answer for me 3 months. 27 months in total. Phew! I really deserve for this one to stick!

Best of luck ladies.

Turi1983 · 17/11/2015 15:49

Vap0 Fantastic news – and such an early positive too! I really hope this one is a sticky.

aprilshowers16 I KNOW! Personally, I think they’re in the wrong job. It’s encouraging to hear you had a good experience with the EPAU, thank you for sharing.

MaudGonneMad as Sophia says, I think they wait until three miscarriages before investigating. The only way I am getting my tests done through private medical care is because they’re not solely fertility issues. If they were, they wouldn’t be covered at all.

AprilShowers16 · 17/11/2015 15:54

Ahhh Vap Congratulations!! And knowing so early too - you're making me want to get a frer to test now as nothing showing up on my cheapy. Let us know what the Dr says, I've not heard of that as an option before - is it shown to make a difference?

Brenna24 · 17/11/2015 17:22

Grin Vap congratulations.

I still think I am just symptom spotting and AF will be here by the weekend. Never mind, off climbing for the first time in over a year tonight. :D

Clarab0w · 17/11/2015 17:36

wow, vap - amazing news! congrats! StarStarStar are you feeling ok, symptoms-wise? and curious about the docs, if you don't mind me asking - have you been told you've got low progesterone or just want the peace of mind?

brenna, if you've got symptoms to spot there's still hope!

MaudGonneMad · 17/11/2015 18:15

I'm curious about the doctors too, vap. Let us know how you get on asking for progesterone. Massive congratulations Flowers

mascaraisamust · 17/11/2015 18:31

Vap congrats, highly recommend the progesterone!

Vap0 · 17/11/2015 19:20

Hi all

Thank you so much for your well wishes!

So, dr said they don't prescribe progesterone anymore, she said it is a thing of the past which has no proof to have helped. She said that there is nothing they can prescribe that will help. She was an older dr. Not sure if that makes any difference. My progesterone levels were low on the day 21 blood test! They say you need a level of 30 to confirm ovulation but mine was only 27.1.
I asked her if I hadn't come in with a bfp and had called for the results what would they say about ov. She wouldn't answer that one.

I am still a little concerned by low progesterone levels but she seemed so confident I didn't need it that I feel "ok" I think. Not sure if I believe her about the progesterone to be honest. I told her I was taking a low dose aspirin as read that can help thicken lining and also reduce the chances of clots. She also didn't recommend that and said they would say don't take it but she also said it us up to me whether I continue to take it. I think I will keep taking that.

Mascara you're taking progesterone it aren't you? You had to go privately didn't you? I'm not sure if I should look into that or not. I want to try to stay as stress free as I can.

Zero symptoms by the way.

Best of luck to everyone else! I hope we have a few more bfp's on here before Xmas Grin we all deserve it!

Vap0 · 17/11/2015 19:25

P.s april the cheap tests even though they say are 10mlu they are nowhere near as sensitive as frer. Frer has come up with a clear line on both of my pregnancies when ic's have hardly shown any line whatsoever. I hear some from the pound shop of super drug are more sensitive than Amazon ones. Will update when my ic actually shows a line of any kind. I think it will be a while

mascaraisamust · 17/11/2015 19:40

I got the progesterone through the nhs gynae from my referral which I had got before I mc (never told them I got a BFP). Begged for the progesterone and they gave in. My Pg levels were 1 and 8! The private consultant says epu gives it sometimes, has to be prescribed through the hospital or privately. Your body should natutally be producing more progesterone and it should increase over time anyway as the baby grows. Maybe try get an early scan? And ask at the Epau? If you are worried. There is no proof but there is lots of debates on its effectiveness x

Vap0 · 17/11/2015 19:46

I couldn't get a pregnancy pack today as they had run out. These packs have all information in them about epu and midwives etc so until I can get one of those I dont know who to contact. I asked if I could collect one from somewhere else and they said yes, I asked where, they didn't know. Typical. Will have to just be patient! My previous levels were 5 on 2 occasions. So things have certainly improved!
