Hi Beegee3. I've just read my post back and realised it sounds like I'm on a listless downer-luckily I'm not.

I meant I'm not too bothered about whether I'm pregnant this month (10dpo) which is unusual and strange so I'm putting it down to the magical powers of she-oak!

I'm pretty much a new person too as I posted a bit in June and then nothing til now. This thread is great though as like you said it's often just DH and you who know what you're up to and sometimes DHs don't know exactly what we're up to what with gadgets and tinctures and acronyms.

kitkat2016 · 23/01/2016 22:54

hi everyone
Im new and would love to join you all if that's OK
Im probably the oldest here but very very keen ttc DC 2 but having major issues
So at the grand old age of 45 Im wondering if it is too late as this month for the first time I have not ovulated - Im using ovulation tests and it showed for the first time negative results throughout my cycle and no LH surge at all

Does this mean that its the end of the line if now there is no LH surge?
Any advice greatly appreciated

totalnamechanger · 23/01/2016 23:00

kitkat I don't think that in itself can confirm you haven't ovulated- only bloods or temping. You might have just had a very short surge.

Would you consider temping? I find it really useful but know some people think it's a faff

kitkat2016 · 23/01/2016 23:16

thanks totalnamechanger - I tried temping but with DS I end up getting up at different times every day so found it just not that practical

I am thinking of going to the drs - what tests should I ask for? Is it FSH and are there any other tests you think I should have?

Thank you so much

Beegee3 · 23/01/2016 23:57

totalnamechanger no you didn't come over like that, you sounded like you said quite zen Smile. It's good to be able to have some calm. No I think only we can obsess and plot and plan and understand the intricacies quite like us. This thread seems kind and supportive, lovely ladies Flowers. I haven't heard of she-oak ?
Welcome kit-kat2016 i'm new too, I think there are ladies on here who have had success at 45+. It's silly really we are all a similar age but it this realm it seems to five us slightly different stories x

kitkat2016 · 24/01/2016 00:11

thanks Beegee3 - its encouraging to hear that there are others who are a similar age to me who've had success - I was beginning to think that I must be crazy for even thinking that I could attempt

I was told it was impossible to conceive a few years ago by a consultant and then the following month conceived my DS so there you go! But now I am older so am very anxious but I guess all I can do is try

are there any tests that would help determine my chances?
Many thanks x

Beegee3 · 24/01/2016 00:28

Hi kit-kit2016
I think that if you have the feeling that you would like another baby, you've got that feeling and there's nothing you can do...but try Flowers. I don't know about the tests I am afraid but people on here have spoken about them, I have had a little look back through the posts. It just helps being able to talk to others ttc x

kitkat2016 · 24/01/2016 00:35

thanks Beegee3 - I'll have a look at the previous posts and see if I can find out about the tests
yes I agree - it definitely helps talking to others who are ttc x

totalnamechanger · 24/01/2016 05:18

Blood tests are taken Day 4 and Day 21 (if your cycle is 28 days- mine is longer so I had Day 4 and Day 25). This confirms whether you ovulated that cycle. My doctor threw in lots of other tests like thyroid and testosterone. I don't know if that's common but it was useful.

I'm up stupidly early because I couldn't stop coughing. I had to take temp an hour early and not sure whether it's accurate because my mouth could be cold so I know what you mean about the impracticality. My son also wakes up any time from 5-8. I set my alarm for 5.30 when DH and I get up for work and go back to sleep when I'm not working- when DS allows it... I'm not too worried if it's half an hour out or so as you can still see the main pattern.

She-oak is an Australian bush herb that reflexologists sometimes recommend Beegee

Beegee3 · 24/01/2016 10:01

Morning totalnamechanger I know how you feel with the coughing, I have been hacking away for the last few days and it's not good for the sleep. All my glands are up too, wow I feel (and really must look) sexy Confused. Hope you feel better soon. I will look into the she-oak x

ababsurdum · 24/01/2016 12:30

Welcome kitkat. When I was 40 (I'm now nearly 44) and ttc for the first time I was told by a consultant that I probably ovulated in 90% of my cycles. If we are tracking them so closely it stands to reason that at some point we're going to notice that cycle. Try not to let it put you off. There are people who have graduated this thread who are not far behind you/similar age.

Inshock73 · 24/01/2016 15:03

Hello everyone, I used to be on this thread (well the 40+ thread) up until early last year when I had my little girl and popped on recently to be a cheerleader :) I'm now considering whether to try for a second :) I had my little girl 9 months ago aged 42 and will soon be 43 so if I'm going to try for another I need to crack on :) Lovely to so many keeping this thread alive. I'm reading with interest :)

Inshock73 · 24/01/2016 15:03

Oops sorry for the heavy handed use of smilies!

kitkat2016 · 24/01/2016 15:30

Thanks so much totalnamechanger and ababsurdum - that's really helpful :)

I'll look into the 3 day and 21 day blood tests and get that organised soon - its so helpful to know and reassuring to think that this could be just one cycle that Im not ovulating and not a norm although I have to say my age is still glaring at me in a big "you must be kidding" kind of way to even think its possible to conceive and even my DH thinks Im a bit crazy for trying but I still want to try! Where's there's a will there's a way!

Would an AMH test which I had done before be useful and also an antral follicle count, both of which Im assuming I'd have to go privately and pay for or would the 3 and 21 say blood tests be adequate and sufficient for determining where things stand?

Any help much appreciated :)

kitkat2016 · 24/01/2016 15:32

Meant to say hope you feel better soon totalnamechanger and Beegee3 - I had a similar thing over christmas and its not nice - hope you get better soon

ababsurdum · 24/01/2016 20:25

I can't help with tests I'm afraid as I've only ever had an AMH test, I'm sure others will advise.

I've no idea if I've ovulated yet. I often get pain but not always. We dtd last night and will again tonight so hopefully that will cover us. A quick search of Dr Google (so in no way verified) told me that dtd daily means fewer sperm but better motility. Dh's count was good when he was tested nearly 4 years ago so hopefully we'll be OK.

Welcome back Inshock73. Good luck ttc number two. There would have been no chance of me conceiving when ds was 9 months old as I was far too knackered from lack of sleep for regular sex! Kudos to you Smile

I hope all those who are poorly are better soon. There seems to be a lot going about.

Beegee3 · 24/01/2016 21:09

Hi inshock73 SmileSmileSmile well I am 42 -43 in may. So I guess we are same age. Congrats on your 9mth old. I have 14 and 10yr old boys..divorce.. now ttc my#3 his #1. I'm new on here and very keen to get my little babba.
Thanks for the get well wishes kitkat and ababsurdum, i still sound like a 90 yr old chain smoker Confused.
Well I got my dp to come over and we dtd - somehow even though my bed just wanted to give a squeaky musical accompaniment which ever kind of position we were in or however hard we tried (tmi?) It ended up being frustrating tbh. Anyway deed done, 4th day flashing smiley, a little cm I think. Who knows if my static smiley will come and if I will ovulate? Fx I do and in a couple of days as I will have dtd oops. .I am so demanding 😕. ababsurdum it sounds that you are covering all your bases so fx for you this month x

Beegee3 · 24/01/2016 21:10
  • dtd opps
ababsurdum · 24/01/2016 22:26

Chewy, Twinkly, Fatty - how are you guys?

Slinki I hope all is well with you.

ababsurdum · 24/01/2016 22:29

All bases covered Beegee, I think we've done all we can this month.

I used up a whole pack of opk's testing madly this weekend. The madness has to stop! Blush

Beegee3 · 24/01/2016 22:45

Everything crossed for you ababsurdum Smile. Yes, I am just on 2 tests a day at the minute-going to have to get another pack...Yes madness Blush x

kitkat2016 · 24/01/2016 23:54

I agree - these Opk's for me are madness - so far I've used 25 this month all to confirm that I am well and truly NOT ovulating and each one I take is more demoralising than the last so I think time to stop testing for me and time to head to get some tests to see whats gong on apart from driving myself crazy!

This month as well for the first time Ive had absolutely no ovulation signs e.g. no pain in ovary and (sorry for TMI) no ewcm so does this all mean that its well and truly over and I should give up trying or could this just be a one off occasion??

very worried about it as Im 45 and up until now Ive ovulated every month so am just now panicking
has anyone else had this and then gone on to ovulate?
Any advice greatly received

wotsitsmaltesers · 25/01/2016 00:08

I had a very low progesterone result one month which suggested I didn't ovulate that month. Figure was high the following month meaning all okay. Doctors said it's normal for women not to ovulate every month. One doctor also told me You can produce ewm and still not ovulate and have lsh surge and still not ovulate. If you're still having regular periods it's not over.

Beegee3 · 25/01/2016 00:23

kitkat I think wotsits advice sounds good, it could just be this month, don't give up Smile. It's only my first month ttc and already I am in deep, I just know I am going to drive myself mad Hmm. The thing is that for me I feel like I am 'doing something' with the opks and I guess gives me a sense of control (as if). It only takes one egg and one speed - ah if only it was that simple for us x

Beegee3 · 25/01/2016 00:25

*sperm - my phones predictive text obviously didn't like that word.
