HB what the heck is a MTHF(K)R gene?! Grin. Are you going to consult Dr Google or be good and wait to speak to your doc?

Phe sorry to hear your bad news. Flowers

Gillster · 20/03/2015 23:32

I saw that too Smidge, great naughty minds think alike Wink

So glad you're sticking around Phe, I think we all need all the help and support we can get as well as being a great place to share knowledge.

This is all new to me HB. I'd deffo try and tap your haematology work pal for more info.

Thank Crunchie it's the weekend.

beakybeak · 21/03/2015 00:17

I also thought of the mthfkr thing! Sounds like that gene may be a bit of a one. Can't add anything re test results though, HB, sorry.

Phe glad you're hanging around, but sorry you need to. I would say re the icsi, my clinic do it as standard if you get a low number of eggs so it must just depend on their policy. I had long protocol IVF in jan/feb but didn't respond very well at all and only had one follie of a proper size and one really small one. I suppose like Gill says it's very much trial and error which I know isn't helpful but seems unavoidable. I haven't a clue when I can do another cycle, but finally have a follow up next week.

Tiger no news on the house yet. Best and final offers next week I think Sad are you back with MrT and puppyT? Re the buserelin, I had no side effects at all (but did drink tons of water anyway) and in fact I felt better than usual. I felt crap and had terrible mood swings during stimming though, for me that and afterwards was worse.

barkingtreefrog · 21/03/2015 09:38

HB you need to update us on the mthrfkr gene! (that's what I saw immediately too Grin ). Without wanting to make light of it, I quite like the image of a little badass gene, wading around in my ovaries and controlling everything Grin .

beaky it's so hard to tell yourself your clinic knows what it is doing and you can trust them completely when every clinic does everything so differently! More research desperately needed Angry .
I hate house buying. Got into a bidding war over our current one and ended up paying more than I should have done because I had to have it Blush . Fingers crossed for good news on the house front next week.

phe how are doing today?

Anyone got any advice on uti's berries? Only ever had one once before, then had one during the iui and for the last few days I've felt like I need a wee all the time, only I don't. I've been upping the fluid intake to help the eggs, but it's the feeling of still needing a wee when I've just been. I'm convinced the uti had an effect on the iui so I'm really worried it's going to mess up the ivf.

happylass · 21/03/2015 10:31

The MTHFKR thing didn't cross my mind >>>> innocent Smile but I did see it mentioned on the (mammoth) thread that Rain posted a link too (very informative thanks Rain). It was mentioned alongside thrombophilia/Leiden V which I believe some Berries do have experience of? Barking? Marie?
Barking hope the uti clears up soon. Fortunately I've never suffered so no advice I'm afraid. Could it just be all the water combined with ovaries/womb being bigger than usual? Hope you feel better soon.
Phe hope you're ok, thinking of you.

OP posts:
beakybeak · 21/03/2015 11:07

Barking tons and tons of plain water is the only thing I can suggest, it's the only thing that works for me. I know what you mean about paying over the odds because you have to have it! I can't decide how far to go. Eek. Also with you about the fc's all dishing out different advice. Mine is very much of the do what it takes to make it work rather than a more natural approach tuning into your own body etc which is why I think they do icsi if there's not many eggs. They're clearly control freaks!!

Phe also thinking of you here, how are you? Flowers

Does anyone know is there an upper age limit on adoption? Shock

WildflowerMarmalade · 21/03/2015 11:31

Shock I'm shocked at you all with the mthfr thing. It took me ages to see what you meant.

barkingtreefrog · 21/03/2015 13:29

beaky the accepted adoption age varies according to local authority, but it's usually a maximum age gap rather than age, e.g. 45 years. So at 47 you could adopt a 2 year old but not a baby.

happy I love the theory about my ovaries pressing on my bladder - much better than my theory about another uti! I'm drinking fluids squash as I'm rubbish with water and I'll pick up some cranberry capsules, so fingers crossed.

rain great link, I've bookmarked it although I'm not sure why as if this doesn't work we don't get any more rounds

IamKuma · 21/03/2015 14:46

Barking - I find the sachets of cystitis relief powder from Boots really help, they neutralise the ph of your urine so you feel less uncomfortable. They won't usually give you an antibiotic unless you've had symptoms for a week. Hope you feel better soon.

I hate the stress of house buying. We went into sealed bids too, paid 50k over asking price I wanted it so much Blush

All good at today's scan and have now started all the drugs, 4 azithromycin antibiotics today, 3 indomethacin a day now for the 3 days till EC. feeling quite rough though, have sore throat and don't think all the drugs in my system are helping any...

Agree on the different clinic different approach thing. With this cycle I getting loads more after transfer drugs. Aspirin everyday, cyclogest pessaries, fragmin every day and up to 10 weeks if get a bfp. Progesterone blood test a week after transfer. Sheet says avoid anything strenuous for 2 weeks - including housework!!! Other clinic said return to normal, there is no proof rest helps.... So.... I will try and rest but I'm extremely bad at it.

Really good articles - thanks. I'm quite reassured by my treatment reading Rains post.

Have a great Saturday Berries.

tigerdog · 21/03/2015 15:49

Barking I get irritable / overactive bladder sometimes, particularly if I eat wheat now that I'm gluten free. I think it's quite common. Could just be all the meddling and drugs rather than an infection.

kuma great that things are moving on. Everything very tightly crossed for you. Interesting on the views about resting. I'm planning on taking two weeks off for ivf, Mr T is joining me for 10 days then the rest I'll be at home but like you I'm not great at doing nothing.

beaky we also bought our house via sealed bids. Ours was such a huge project we were unsure so went in 12k below the asking price but wrote a letter about being first time buyers with morgage approved and deposit ready plus Mr T using his firm for conveyancing so could do everything super quick and it worked even though we were only third highest! Still chuffed about the bargain we got!

MTFHR just sounded like a place in Wales to me Wink

I'm on my way to acu having been shopping whilst Mr T has been slaving away in the garden clearing away shrubs and an old shed. Feel slightly guilty! but not that much

We had a 'what if the ivf works' chat this morning. We don't normally let ourselves think to much about it. Mr T wants to take 3 months of shared mat leave, then go part time to 2-3 days a week, plus we fancy both being off for a month together at the end.

beakybeak · 21/03/2015 17:39

Wow Kuma £50k over! You must've loved it! So pleased things are looking up with your cycle, I'll also be keeping everything crossed!

Batking good luck for trigger later! Surely you wouldn't get most kids as babies anyway when you adopt? Sorry I don't know much about adoption apart from that kids in care take a long time to get through the system. I know they haven't all been through that though.

Tiger what a bargain! I think we have to set out our position too which isn't the strongest compared to an investor but I would be doing my own conveyancing and we are just about exchanged on our sale. I don't want to offer too much! Interesting "if it works" chat. Sounds like a fab plan! I dunno what we would as we would be screwed for money Confused

Off for a nice meal and wine for dh's birthday soon Grin Wine and Shamrock - for luck!

beakybeak · 21/03/2015 17:40

Oops! Autocorrect has resurrected Batking instead of Barking!

WildflowerMarmalade · 21/03/2015 18:04

That's a really good link Rain. Thank you.

Tiger I have been slaving away in the garden while DH watched the rugby. At least I earned myself a cup of tea and a slice of ginger cake.

Good luck with trigger Barking

barkingtreefrog · 22/03/2015 08:47

beaky the last time I was called batking was shortly before I got my last bfp and while I was pg. So I am taking that as A Sign. Grin Along with the fact that my dog is still sticking to my side. Even when dh was downstairs this morning getting ready for a bike ride he stayed in bed with me rather than pestering him for a walk Smile.

The adoption thing varies. There are obviously lots of children in the system a lot older than babies. I wouldn't adopt a baby anyway, you'd be waiting too long for a match.

I think the trigger shot must have done something, I woke in the night with really bad cramps. They're not collecting the eggs for another 24 hours though, hope nothing is happening too early?! trying to halt the paranoia

Kuma excellent news on the scan. Grin
A nurse at the clinic told me not to take those sachets during treatment last time (it said on the box to not take if pg if they are the same ones). I got some cranberry tablets and drank loads of water so fingers crossed. I asked yesterday when I called the clinic for the timing of the trigger shot and she said if I was still worried on Monday they could do a dip test for me Smile.

tiger given both times previously I was weeing blood and not able to leave the toilet for more than two hours within hours of my first symptoms, I'm hoping this is just an irritation rather than a uti, my mind went straight to worst case scenario!! The 'what if' dreams and conversations are quite nice when you're in that place when you feel that this could happen Smile . We're doing the opposite. Shock DH has seen a job going in Zambia. Closing date is Friday so he'd have to apply before we know if it has worked. If it doesn't work it's exactly the kind of thing we want to go and do before returning and starting the adoption process, so seems silly to let it go completely. There's nothing to say he'd even get an interview or the job anyway (although he will get an interview, as I'll write his application for him and I've never written an application for anyone who hasn't then got an interview from it! smug jinx , so no harm trying!

tigerdog · 22/03/2015 20:53

Hope everyone has had lovely weekends! Shame they're so short.

Good luck tomorrow barking!

IamKuma · 22/03/2015 22:12

Good luck tomorrow Batking! Smile

I'm not far behind you, trigger done and EC at 8am Tuesday - provided I don't ovulate before I get there - the worry never ends.

IamKuma · 22/03/2015 23:54

Good luck Gill too, if you're in tomorrow!

Gillster · 23/03/2015 06:03

Excellent news Kuma, hope the follie behaves until tomorrow morning.

Good luck Batking and try and enjoy the rest. Hoping for the most eggcellent quality eggies.

Good memory Kuma, my op is at 2pm. AF has not appeared so looks like we are on. DH has had to go to London though so I'll be on my own. Hope the medical staff don't think I'm a battered wife - fell off my bike yesterday so am now sporting a couple of scrapes and bruises. Could have been much worse though as came within a whisker of hitting a car. Think I was more worried about the bike. I kind of ended up on my back with the bike on top of me, the car had stopped and the guy asked if I was OK and needed help, my response was, "Can you just hold my bike please!"

If I ever get to the 2ww wait, I'll most definitely be sticking to walking!

Off to pee in a pot now (for the hospital). I might stick a test in it as we did have sex once on day 13 but pretty sure I had ovulation cramps day 29 so certainly not get my hopes up! Just putting my mind at rest.

Gillster · 23/03/2015 06:20

BFN of course! I have put my pee for the hospital into a travel size Molton Brown bottle though - classy!

happylass · 23/03/2015 06:40

Good luck Batking and Gill. Will be thinking of you both. Let us know how you get on.

tigerdog · 23/03/2015 07:03

Good luck gill! hope all goes well for you and barking today. Flowers

barkingtreefrog · 23/03/2015 08:48

Good luck gill Ouch on the bike front. I'd be the same - check the bike is ok first!!

I'm Angry. We were told we had to be here at 8am, but I'm third in for EC and not until 11! I was told we'd be here an hour before, and during that time we'd see the nurse and be getting ready, so I didn't bring my knitting. Now I find out I've got 3 hours to sit waiting!! I could have got loads done! Angry. I've got a book with me and there's a TV, but 3 hours?!?!

beakybeak · 23/03/2015 09:00

Oo Gill Good luck for your op and also plenty of sympathy for the painful sounding bike fall Shock

Batking good luck for when it's finally your turn this morning! Waiting is the worst. I am crossing everything for some really super quality eggs for you.

Kuma how did your trigger go and also how was your performance?

happylass · 23/03/2015 11:11

Barking that is pants. If they are going to keep you hanging around then at least let you know in advance so that you can prepare yourself. It'll be even worse if they keep you hanging around for ET with a full bladder though!
Hope you're in now as we speak. Let us know how you do.
