WHy is there not more of a scandal about NHS Wales? That is absolutely appalling. Does the same thing happen in other specialities (surgery etc) or is it fertility only?

Happy Birthday gil. Wine Wine

beaky you poor thing. These are some of the most stressful events people can go through, and your'e doing it all at once. Make sure you look after yourself - seriously.

Good to hear from you kuma. Mental discipline - so hard.

Yesterday i went to a relax and restore yoga (1.5 hours) and i fell asleep 3 times. Basically it was Sleeping Lions but for grownups. Lush. I always think in yoga Oh my god my Feet, good thinkig re pedi tiger

barking you've recieved the Pet Sign. This can only be good news.

barkingtreefrog · 19/03/2015 08:28

Happy birthday Gillster Grin Grin When is AF due? Is it a concern?

beaky we love our house, but with 6 bikes between us we'd love a garage, which we don't currently have as we're in a terrace. At the moment they're all kept in the cellar, so we have to carry them up and down the stairs, and it's slightly damp down there. Looking to the future (given we fully intend to adopt if this doesn't work) we have some excellent secondary schools in the area, but we live in the catchment for a really shit one which pulls in all the kids from a dodgy council estate (yes, I have turned into that snob Blush but with both of us having taught in the area we know we don't want our kids there...) We'd also like to be a little further out and a bit more rural.
However, all the nice 3 bed semis are just a bit dull and small compared to our lovely 3 double bedroomed Edwardian terrace. We're not in any great hurry to move, but we'll have finished paying off the mortgage soon and it's a great mortgage - we're only paying 1.49% interest - so if we moved we could take the mortgage with us, while if we finished paying it we'd have to get a new deal. Hose prices round us are rising so we don't want to wait 5 years and then everything has jumped out of reach (houses in the area we were looking at 18 months ago have already gone up by £30,000).

That's a massive stream of consciousness showing you the backwards and forwards in my head right now!!! I'll stop myself before I ramble further on, at some point I'm sure they'll call me in for my scan..... Been here since 7.40....

barkingtreefrog · 19/03/2015 08:29

Ha ha! Yep, the price of a hose round here is shocking Shock Wink

tigerdog · 19/03/2015 08:49

Star Happy Birthday Gill Star

Good luck today barking and kuma hope the scans go well.

Love the stream of consciousness about houses barking I'm doing a lot of thinking about it too. Latest thinking is I don't want to move to London just yet after all, just hoping that the ivf gets me upduffed then we'll stay on where we are for another year.

Big hug for you beaky and fingers crossed for the house purchase. Nope, no new job for Mr T yet.
We're thinking about pausing for a bit to see if ivf works out then maybe staying put. Stabbing starts on Thurs, am feeling prepared now and ready to take it on!

pont everything crossed for you.

phe love the proactive approach! Wink

hb hope af shows so you can get on with the next steps.

nolly it's not just fertility - I heard that welsh cardiac surgery patients were dying on waiting lists last year. Sad

Had a follow up Mayan abdominal / all over body massage last night, it was heaven! Apparently I have a congested liver though, which would make sense with the heartburn and bad skin I've experienced. Few days of juice/veg in order i think.

Phephenson · 19/03/2015 11:11

wildflower I went one better than a box set, I bought a now tv box with an entertainment pass. I've watched all the series of Game of Thrones and I'm on series two of mad men!! I need help!!! Gin might be the answer x

IamKuma · 19/03/2015 11:30

Happy Birthday Gill!

Not much going on on the scan front, they didn't seem very happy as there was only a small follicle on left ovary. They'll keep doing daily scans till day 14 so get those pom-poms out for me. Otherwise I get the impression that it's out the door....

Hope your scan went well Barking!

Smidge001 · 19/03/2015 12:14

Oh kuma that sounds a bit disappointing, but don't give up yet - will keep the pom poms waving on this side of the planet for you. What day are you on now?

barkingtreefrog · 19/03/2015 12:15

Everything crossed for better news to come then, kuma, got the pom poms out!! Grin.

My scan: Three follicles, 20, 17 and 15, others too small. They'll have a meeting to discuss Saturday or Monday as it's a balance between giving the smaller two more time but not wanting the big one to be too mature. I'll find out when I call this afternoon. Bit disappointed to be honest, I asked the nurse what the average number of follicles was and she said 6-8 Sad. It only takes one.....

Smidge001 · 19/03/2015 12:15

Oh and happy birthday Gill!
Cake

TheRainDrops · 19/03/2015 12:47

Happy birthday Gil! Cake Flowers Wine

Kuma sending lots of growing thoughts to your ovaries (I don't even care how weird that sounds). Come on follies!

beakybeak · 19/03/2015 13:49

Happy birthday gill! Wine Cake Smile fx AF stays away for you to have the op and you can get going ASAP.

Kuma sending follie growing vibes your way and hope you get the size you need. My pom-poms are on the go for you! Shamrock

Nolly sleeping lions yoga sounds lovely!

Tiger Shock re cardiac patients dying, that's terrible. Your new plan sounds good, I think very sensible for the time being too. How exciting that you'll finally be underway next week!

Barking Shock at the price of hoses round your way! Sorry you are a bit disappointed with the follie count, I know exactly how you feel. I know you have a strict timetable but would it be worth seeing if you could forgoe this IVF and do an iui, then do IVF next cycle with different drugs? Since you only get 1 IVF it's maybe worth a shot. Having said that, I'm still optimistic for you and at an average of 2mm growth per day you could end up with 3 good sized follies by Saturday. Shamrock

barkingtreefrog · 19/03/2015 14:10

beaky I don't think that's an option, and there's no guarantee I'd get more eggs if I tried again anyway. Upping the dose from 50 (first iui) to 300 has only resulted in one more follicle!!

barkingtreefrog · 19/03/2015 14:17

Just got through to the clinic. Egg collection not until Monday. Got to go back to the hospital later to pick up more drugs Sad.

WildflowerMarmalade · 19/03/2015 14:39

Poor Barking. I know you were hoping for EC on Saturday.

nolly3 · 19/03/2015 16:37

bugger it, barking. What a way to start the week

happylass · 19/03/2015 17:19

Barking sorry that you've haven't had as many follies as you'd like but please hold on to the thought that it only takes 1 and it's quality over quantity. I tried to tell myself that it was totally out of my control and they could only work with what I had. Not very reassuring I know but hang on in there, we're all cheering you on Flowers
Nolly NHS Wales is generally pretty shit (waiting time targets are 8 weeks longer than those in England) but I think the IVF situation is especially bad. Having said that the manager that DH had a go at spoke to a few days ago rang back today to say she'd looked at our referral and could see that we've been waiting a long time (no shit!!) so we'll be sent for in 6-8 weeks and should be treated 3-4 months after that! I'm very Hmm as this could well be another BS story to get us off their backs. Guess we'll have to wait and see.
There's a programme on tonight about triplets. One of the couples featured went to Spain for their 4th IVF attempt after 7 years trying and 3 failed NHS cycles and ended up with triplets Shock It's stories like this that will put me off given this whole TTC lark up!!

OP posts:
Gillster · 19/03/2015 18:45

Sorry for the disappointing scan Kuma but could the pill be to blame? Might look better next month.

Also sorry for your disappointing scan Barking. Remember Bunny only got 4 or 5 eggs though. Focus on the quantity and some of the late developers might get their act in gear over the weekend.

I've dusted off the pom poms and oiled the unicycle so will get busy over the weekend for you both.

Massage sounds nice Tiger.

Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone, on train now heading into town for birthday nosh.

Given all I've been through in the last year (and assuming I was at least 5 years younger), I'm pretty sure I couldn't cope with much more than 2 IVF cycles. Not sure at the moment if I'd have another one (assuming we burnt through the frosties) as think all these polyp problems would just keep occurring and I really feel like I'm almost out of time. I'd also like to pursue adoption if things don't work out (although DH not really on board with that yet). Realistically though if we called it a day tomorrow it would be at least 18 months to 2 years away making me 43 in the best case scenario for getting kids. Sad

HampshireBlues · 19/03/2015 19:09

Happy birthday Gill enjoy your evening and try to forget all of these big decisions.

Barking sorry that your scan wasn't as positive as you hoped and that EC has been delayed until Monday; I know you wanted to have the weekend to recuperate.

I can have my scratch with this cycle and then have IVF with the next. As the scratch happens around CD21 I can book and wait my results. But still need AF to make an appearance....wondering if I have another cyst?

I heard an advert on the radio last night for IVF at a Prague clinic but didn't catch the name and not heard it since. Has anyone else heard it?

happylass · 19/03/2015 19:10

Oh Kuma I'm so sorry I somehow missed your post. Sorry to hear that things aren't going as well as they could. I'll be shaking the pom poms for you along with the others.

OP posts:
pontsian · 19/03/2015 20:07

Happy birthday *Gill" and try and remember age really is just a number and its how you feel inside that really counts.

*Barking" - I hope that EC is successful on Monday and it really only does take one!

Hampshire I have not heard an advert on the radio but I have been in contact with a clinic in Prague called Reprofit. If you look further up this thread I posted a link.

I contacted that clinic on Tuesday and today I had a very promising reply which I am (tentatively) excited about! I gave a brief history of my circumstances and they advised me on the IVF treatment and there is no waiting list! Considering the NHS were telling a minimum of a year and i hear maybe 2 before starting treatment this news is heaven sent! They said if I e-mailed over all my NHS records I could start treatment as early as my next period. Now I feel the ball is rolling I feel like getting straight on with it but realistically July is the earliest I can do it as I am restricted by school hols. I've totted up the rough costs and it will be around £3k but this does include flights and a week in Prague so I am more than happy to pay this to have treatment this summer and not in 2017! I feel pretty optimistic and mum cried when I told her and even my dad got very emotional and told me to go for it Smile

tigerdog · 19/03/2015 21:39

I'm as grumpy as hell tonight Hmm after shit day at work.

Fingers crossed for you kuma, hope things progress.

barking don't be too disappointed there is still lots of time for things to develop. Your body will do what it will do so just try and go with it and keep that wonderful positive mindset going.

Hope everyone else is well.

In bed already as off to 6.30 hot yoga tomorrow morning! Night berries!

Gillster · 19/03/2015 21:42

The Prague thing sounds very promising Pont, glad the folks are on board with it to. You can also turn it into a bit of a holiday too so that you can feel that you're getting your money's worth out of it.

WildflowerMarmalade · 19/03/2015 22:12

Pont that sounds promising. I doubt you will regret going out there + if it's abroad there is surely no way your FC could ever be told!

Tiger sorry you had a bad day but I'm impressed by 6.30am yoga.

Kuma pom-poms a-go-go for you here. Have faith. I'm sure it will be fine.

Gill Happy Birthday! I hope you had a lovely evening. We were out to dinner too tonight as it is our wedding anniversary. Home nice and early though as up early.

barkingtreefrog · 20/03/2015 06:49

kuma hope the overnight pom poms have persuaded a little bit of growth from the follicle on today's scan.
