I don't think either FRer or the Superdrug Early tests are digital, but I may be mistaken.

Dear/darling - it could be either Smile

auroraboringalis · 04/03/2015 14:59

Yes, the d in DC and dh and DP and so forth is darling in my mind. I think you choose subconsciously whether or not say dear or darling. Smile

Mumof1sofar · 04/03/2015 15:03

I always think of it as darling too!

Sorry my mistake, getting frer confused - I've been out of the game for too long lol. I've got quite a few pg tests left over from last time so I hope they'll still be ok! Smile

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 15:03

Mumsnet (ie the final word) has listed them both so we're all right Grin

auroraboringalis · 04/03/2015 15:04

Fyi radio4 now on your employment rights as expectant parent. So most of us don't have our bfps yet but obviously we're all getting them in the next two months, so very relevant!

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 15:16

Thanks aurora. My maternity pay is rubbish. Just the minimum 6 weeks at 90% then a pittance statutory thereafter.

Mumof1sofar · 04/03/2015 16:28

My employers would not give me flexible working with dd1 so I quit & now work pt self-employed. I can still claim mat pay though so that's good x

AvaAmulet · 04/03/2015 19:00

Yes, spek our discussions can get pretty gross, but it's so useful to talk to others in the same situation and the gals on here are so informative and helpful. Literally, ask anything you want, no one can see you Blush there's not many people I'd talk to in real life about EWCM, that's for sure Wink

mumo I don't think I'll be testing until the end of next week, if AF doesn't arrive when expected, tbh. My cycles have been all over the place since returning, so I'm kinda guessing my ov dates atm... I feel like I've wasted so much money on tests and as I just can't resist poas I don't tend to keep tests at home any more. I even did random testing before AF returned, thinking I'd be lucky enough to catch the first egg Hmm I'd have to be a few days 'late' to justify buying a test now Wink x

AvaAmulet · 04/03/2015 19:09

Poor pear - lack of sleep will do that to you Wink I envisaged your DS using his teeth as a screwdriver Shock sorry to hear your Lo is suffering atm hope it all settles down soon, and hope you both have a more restful nite tonight x

Mumof1sofar · 04/03/2015 19:20

Ava, have you looked on amazon? Last time I was ttc I bought something like 50 tests for £5 & they worked as well as any branded one (showed a faint +ve when I was actually pg). Saves money as otherwise the prices are ridiculous!

AvaAmulet · 04/03/2015 19:30

Thanks Mumo, my sister used these when she got pg - bought from amazon with ov sticks. She gave me her unused sticks when she fell pg and I'm ashamed to say, they were all gone in record time Blush when I told her how quickly I'd used them all up she asked just how often had we been dtd!? Shock ... Unfortunately though, the amount of times we dtd didn't correlate to the amount of sticks I used, I just got obsessed with poas (think I was willing hgc levels to rise miraculously throughout the day, even after fmu said no..Sad.) Gosh, I'm such a sad case, aren't I? Really need to get out more, lol BlushConfused

ispyfispi · 04/03/2015 20:07

Ava I've been known to POAS too in the ludicrous hope of ctfe! I think having spent years trying NOT to get pregnant, the idea you can dtd without protection and there not be even a faint chance is a foreign concept Grin

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 20:27

I think my poas tally often outnumbers the dtd tally too Blush Maybe that's the key to getting a bfp: dtd >poas. Sorted! Grin if only it were that simple

On a more serious note: did anyone what the programme about drinking while pregnant (on last night)? Very scary. Just as I was starting to enjoy the odd glass of wine, since dd now feeds much less. Sad

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 20:28

watch, not what. must proof read more thoroughly

Mumof1sofar · 04/03/2015 20:53

Poas addicts anonymous!! Lol it's awful isn't it but you just hope it might have changed!

Didn't watch it Mary, what did it say? I saw they were talking about it on the march bud. What channel was if on, might download it on sky x

Mumof1sofar · 04/03/2015 20:54

*bus not bud!

peardrop2 · 04/03/2015 20:57

Aww thanks Ava!

Mary - no I didn't know it was on. What channel?

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 20:57

Mumo it was on itv at 9pm yesterday. It basically implied that ANY alcohol, in the first trimester especially, could be dangerous. I suppose it makes sense, since this is the time when all the organs, brain and central nervous system are being formed.

AvaAmulet · 04/03/2015 20:59

I saw it Mary! I was teetotal for 6 months before I conceived DD in order to shift some stubborn lbs. The morning of my cousin's wedding I Poas (as it is my fave thing to do, apparently Hmm) and it was negative, so at the wedding I had 2 glasses of Buck's Fizz and a small glass of wine. A week later I poas again (really, I left it a week!?Shock) and it was positive! I told my GP in a panic and she just looked at me, totally nonplussed and said "that's nothing, I've heard of much worse" Shock anyway I can honestly say that, after that mini-freak out, I haven't touched so much as a lite beer since and I don't miss it at all now Smile x

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 21:07

That's the thing isn't it? Some people don't find out they're pg until they're quite far along and have been eating and drinking all the things they're not 'supposed' to, and their babies have been unharmed.

What I found so worrying about the programme is that it implied that, even though there may not be obvious/classic signs of FAS, there may still be SOME damage there.

I guess if you know you might be pg, then it makes sense to avoid alcohol. That's easy if you conceive straight away, less so if it takes a while.

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 21:11

I'm a total lightweight not a big drinker anyway so it wouldn't bother me really. Don't have much of a social life these days either!

Giving up/cutting down on sugar on the other hand would be an entirely different issue. Does anyone else have 'good intentions' for ttc/pg? I may need some support!

AvaAmulet · 04/03/2015 21:20

We did conceive straight away, but I never expected to Blush Looking back, the hgc levels would have been too low to detect a pregnancy, as I was only a week pg, and I never dreamed we'd be that lucky. I thought I'd have a glass to toast as a 'treat' as I'd been so committed to my new healthy regime for 6 months, but after the scare I will never view a small glass of wine as a 'treat' again. I take caution to extremes now and don't even take any medicine, not so much as a paracetamol, since DD was born as I Breastfeed and she has paracetamol in calpol and would also have 5% of anything passed to her through my milk... Blush

peardrop2 · 04/03/2015 21:34

Cool I'm watching it now on playback Smile I gave up drinking 6 months before TTC DS and never touched a drop when I was pregnant. I'll be doing the same next time except now I don't drink so much anyway because of lifestyle change so if I'm out I allow myself a glass of wine until I'm close to OV time doesn't happen much anyway

In my last trimester I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. It was at the low end but it was there. I'm a size 10 so it wasn't due to my size. I started eating a lot of chocolate when I found out I was pregnant cravings and IMO I think that is what sparked things off. Anyway, so that I don't go through the same trauma I shall be cutting out sugar from day 1 which is going to be really hard. I will probably be allowed a weekend treat to help but I certainly don't wish to do pin prick tests 3x a day as that was uncomfortable and made me feel really sad.

MarysPrayer · 04/03/2015 21:49

Pear I know I eat too much sugar, but found it difficult to cut down when I was pregnant. I only put on the normal/recommended amount of weight and I didn't develop gestational diabetes but dd was a big baby. I'm 5'5" and a size 8-10, dh is a very average 5'11'' and slim(ish) build so I do wonder whether the sugar intake contributed to her being 9lb 4oz. I'm determined to have more willpower next time!

I just find it difficult as there are so many easy-to-grab, high-in sugar snack available and not many healthy ones. Or am I just making excuses?!

peardrop2 · 04/03/2015 21:58

Mary my bump was small and DS weighed 6lbs 14 at birth so I certainly didn't look like the normal candidate. My body just couldn't breakdown the sugar down when I was pregnant so the results were high every time I ate too much sugar from any food like baked beans, baked goods, certain carbs...it's amazing how much I had to cut down to keep my levels low. Luckily I kept my levels low enough through diet so I didn't have to have any changes made to my birth plan.
