Anyone taking part in the Response Medical Trial or any other medical trial?

Hi, I'm taking part in the Response medical trial and wondering if anyone else on here is too?
It's been a very difficult year and a half and I have had three consecutive miscarriages, 1st in Nov 2013 at 12 weeks, 2nd in July 2014 at 7 weeks, 3rd in Nov 2014 at 9 weeks. It's a 4 month waiting list for my Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic so I'm taking part in the trial as want to keep things moving as worried I'm running out of time (I'm 36 this year - although I was 33 when first started TTC) but I'm in the 2WW and feeling terrified.
There's a lot of extra support offered as part of the trial but I'm feeling a bit lonely and out on a limb about it.
Anyone else on the same boat or had medical trial experience?

I did tests in the afternoon to, and found them to be a bit darker than the morning! I really thought with my morning wee A was going to say she couldn't see anything, but she did.

Good luck ringing them, they will be so excited! Hopefully they will get you in Monday or Tuesday.

claire I'm so sorry. It must be so frustrating and upsetting. And although I'm sure you're happy for others it must be tough.
Hope you have a nice weekend planned and a chilled bottle of something in the fridge. X

I found the trisl tests to be a bit rubbish. The reflecty window just bounced light away and they used a different test to confirm at the hospital.
Do get calling as at my hospital the protocol was that at the weekend one of the trained EPU nurses stepped in to randomise for the trial. They are prepared for non mon-fri BFP's thankfully.

Thanks Size, you give me a bit confidence. I think in reflection it may have been there for last two days but I put it down to a reflection & so did DH. Called and left a message for the trial team, so I'll see when they call back.

Meemsmum · 18/04/2015 08:53

Great news girlie! Fingers crossed for you. When I was in the hospital the other day my trial nurse said they're about to start handing out clear blue preg tests (not the digi ones). That would make sense as the ones they use are rubbish and i always thought it strange they forked out for the expensive ov tests but not preg tests!
I hope you don't mind me lurking here even though I'm off the trial now, really interested to hear how you're all getting on. X

Indiedog · 18/04/2015 08:59

How are you doing meems?

Have they told you that they can't resign you after a few months. I was told if anything went pear shaped, providing it was left a few months to settle you could probably get resigned to the trial.
Don't know if that is the case though.

Hope your ok xx

Meemsmum · 18/04/2015 09:16

I'm doing ok thanks indie, had a tough day yesterday, managed an hour at work and had to leave as was a blubbering mess (and also bleeding very heavily). It's settled down today though. Going to see the consultant in a fortnight so really hope something will come of that. My trial nurse said I only got one shot on the trial but I'll maybe clarify that with her when I see her this week. Hope you're doing well x

sizethree · 18/04/2015 09:23

meems I'm so sorry. You've been through so much already that this is unacceptably cruel.
Will you get scanned next week to determine what is happening?

OP posts:
philippa88 · 18/04/2015 09:34

Meems I'm so sorry. I really hope they let you stay on the trial. Hugs for you.

The trial nurse called me back and my hcg results were less than 1 - so 100% not pregnant. I knew it anyway and was initially fine once she'd told me, then after it hit me that this was yet another bump in the road. Had a cry and got it out my system, still no af though so no further forward :/ xx

sizethree · 18/04/2015 09:37

phillipa that must be tough but but a relief to have proper confirmation.
Have you thought more about going for reflexology / accupuncture to help give nature a kick up the arse?

OP posts:
girliesaints · 18/04/2015 09:39

Meems, continued big hugs coming your way. I was told when signed up that if the pregnancy did fail, then the trial would help you access the best after care, so hopefully this happens for you.

Philippa. So sorry lovely. Know you had been expecting it wasn't positive but to get confirmation must be gutting. Hope AF arrives pronto Did they say why you're getting the positive test?

Meemsmum · 18/04/2015 11:52

Ah Philippa, I'm sorry to hear that. Sending you hugs. It's all such a roller coaster isn't it?

I don't think I'll be scanned, I don't think there would be anything to see as it was so early. Hopefully I will though get some additional care next time. Xx

philippa88 · 18/04/2015 12:25

Thanks girls. They said they have no idea why the tests were positive, I'm thinking maybe a chemical - but only if I start bleeding soon. Been having cramps on and off but it just doesn't seem to want to come out lol! I'm feeling slightly better today, maybe cos the suns out! We're going to Scarborough for the night tmrw for the oh's bday so am trying to focus on that. Had a moment yday when we realised we're focusing on having a baby too much, like it's taken over and everything else comes second to it. We're gonna try and 'forget about it' which I know is easier said than done. Just worried in years to come we'll look back and regret all the stress and upset this last 2 years has caused.

As for alternative therapies, I looked at a place in the metro centre and it was £35 for half an hour. Not sure I feel like I want to spend that money on it tbh, maybe further down the line.

How is everyone else? Sunny where you are? Xx

Marchgirl · 18/04/2015 13:49

Hello all. I've been lurking for a couple of weeks but I think it's time for me to un-lurk.
I'm 37, dh 44, dd born aug 12. Completely uncomplicated pg. Ttc #2 since sep 13. 4xmc. All rmc testing and karyotyping normal. Went to the implantation clinic at Coventry last week and awaiting results but back ttc in the meantime. Currently CD2. I'm signed up for the trial and have my exciting goody bag (and the incredibly complicated date calculator! ), but depending on the results of the uNK testing may have to leave the trial. If I show high nk then I'll leave the trial and take the Coventry protocol (progesterone, heparin and prednisolone), if the nk are normal, I'll continue on the response trial. This is why I haven't joined you on this board yet, but today I just thought, sod it, I can always leave you again. Waves size and girlie from the rmc board.

hi to everyone else Smile

So sorry to hear this is happening again for you meems, really feel for you.

philippa, have you heard of community clinics for acupuncture? I go to one in Edinburgh. It's basically where they do two patients at once. Mine costs 15 quid for a half hour instead of the usual 50 quid an hour. She has two rooms and just pops in and out. First appointment was a standard full price one then joined the clinic after that. As it's cheap it means i can go every week. She's reduced my cycles from 33-38 days down to 29-30 and reduced my bbt which was too high.
If you're near a big city you should be able to find one. Try Googling 'acupuncture community clinic' and your town and hopefully you'll find one. I would recommend it for regulating cycles and stress.

girliesaints · 18/04/2015 13:53

Welcome March and glad you've officially joined us over here x??

sizethree · 18/04/2015 15:03

Hi March. Lovely to see you here!
How long til you get the results from Coventry?
Yeh the chart is pretty complicated but effective. I'm keeping mine fur next time.
Sounds like you have a good plan sorted. It always feels better when there's something to work to.

philippa88 · 18/04/2015 15:48

AF IS FINALLY HERE! Could not be happier right now lol, so ironic really. Hopefully next cycle is normal and I might even ovulate early! When do you think I should start doing the opks? Normally have 32-36 day cycles.. Xx

philippa88 · 18/04/2015 15:50

Welcome March, sorry to hear about your losses but hopefully the trial will help you. I might just look into acupuncture after all! Xx

Indiedog · 18/04/2015 16:40

WAHOOO Phillippa GrinGrin so pleased and relieved for you!! Thank f**k for AF! That's probably the only time we will all be releived it's arrived.

I hope it's lifted a weight if your mind! You can enjoy your night away knowing at least.

As for OPKs, I would treat it as normal, when you would normally start, maybe start a day or two early. Can you ask the trial team for more OPKs? Explain that you didn't get a smilie, and your worried you missed it, so please could you have some more so you could test twice a day.

If you messaged me your address I could send you the box and a couple I gave left. Don't mind. Xx

Marchgirl · 18/04/2015 17:21

Hoorah for af philippa!

girliesaints · 18/04/2015 17:24

Hurrah Philippa! Glad it's finally here.

Trial Nurse has rung and left a message to say they will call me back tomorrow to let me know when I'll be called in.

Meemsmum · 18/04/2015 17:50

Hurrah Philippa, what a relief! Smile

Welcome March! I'm really interested to hear about your acupuncture. I was just about to start looking into it. I'm in Edinburgh too - where do you go for it? X

clairemorgan81 · 18/04/2015 17:52

please af has arrived philippa yippee!x

clairemorgan81 · 18/04/2015 17:55

Welcome March x

Marchgirl · 18/04/2015 18:09

I go to charmaine shepherd at the centre for holistic health on York place. She's absolutely lovely and specialises in fertility and women's stuff. They have a sliding scale of 15 to 25 pounds per session but i just pay 15 as i couldn't afford much more and it's likely to be long term. I would recommend her Smile
