Anyone taking part in the Response Medical Trial or any other medical trial?

Hi, I'm taking part in the Response medical trial and wondering if anyone else on here is too?
It's been a very difficult year and a half and I have had three consecutive miscarriages, 1st in Nov 2013 at 12 weeks, 2nd in July 2014 at 7 weeks, 3rd in Nov 2014 at 9 weeks. It's a 4 month waiting list for my Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic so I'm taking part in the trial as want to keep things moving as worried I'm running out of time (I'm 36 this year - although I was 33 when first started TTC) but I'm in the 2WW and feeling terrified.
There's a lot of extra support offered as part of the trial but I'm feeling a bit lonely and out on a limb about it.
Anyone else on the same boat or had medical trial experience?

Welcome Mimi. Hope you get accepted, it's certainly worth the extra care in my opinion x

Choccy- there's nothing else you can do but try and relax as much as you can- lots of hand holding x

sizethree · 26/03/2015 17:25

choccy very relieved you have a scan booked for the morning. Will be keeping everything crossed that all is a-ok.
You made me laugh with the word 'fanjo'. I wasn't sure what noun to throw in there as hard to gauge the tone!
Welcome mimi, you'll be in great company here. X

Grin sizethree.
Am ok, it's gone brown again. Just struggling to not think the worst, but still hanging onto hope as no pain.
Thank you for the hand holding x

sizethree · 26/03/2015 17:52

Brown is old blood hang it. So it's hopefully just been a random little blood vessel letting out some blood with is now ceasing and turning brown.
It must be worrying but tbh if a miscarriage was to start at this stage, there would be more than spotting throughout the course of the day. So please try to relax and think the best. Brown is good!

girliesaints · 27/03/2015 11:30

Phew and take a breath Choccy! Did they find a source of the bleeding?

Choccywoccydodah · 27/03/2015 11:55

Nope just said it was common and try to relax but give them a call again if I'm worried :)

girliesaints · 27/03/2015 12:10

Well at least you've been reassured. Naughty mini-choccy giving you a scare x

MimiDoddrioni · 28/03/2015 11:23

Hi girlie, claire, size, and choccy for the welcome. Sorry if I missed anyone. Am just waiting for my initial screening appointment at the moment, so fx I fufill the research criteria and then I can get my mitts on one of those lovely tote bags a few of you have mentioned Grin.

choccy am so pleased to see your scan went well and your sticky bean giving you a big wave.

sizethree · 28/03/2015 12:38

Hi mimi have you got a date for the appointment yet? Hope you get on and join the cool bag gang!
Don't know if you've had the chance read the whole thread but I'll give you a brief synopsis: Choccy is nearly 10 weeks and her appointments are on Tuesday's, I'm just over 8 weeks and my appointments are on Thursdays.
Claire and Girlie are TTC at the mo.
The injections are tiny so you can barely feel them and for me I like to feel an achievement each day when I get to injection time. It's helps punctuate the loooooong weeks of early pregnancy.
The extra support from the trial nurses is great. And that I. Itself has shown a better pregnancy outcome.

sizethree, my appointment has just come through for Monday. It's in the middle of the day in another city so have just had to text my manager to see if I can a day off at short notice or whether I need to reschedule, so not of to a flying start.

Congrats on being 8 weeks, have seen you seen many scans of your bean yet?

And no one has mentioned injections to me until now Confused! if this isn't too personal a question, whereabouts do you have to stick yourself? I've also read about the positive placebo effect of being in the control group and can honestly say I really don't mind which group I'm in, I just think the extra care and support I'll get will help to stop me going doolally next time I get preg.

sizethree · 28/03/2015 15:22

mimi v much hoping your manager gives you time off to make the appointment.
I've had 2 scans so far (at 6 and 8 weeks) but I haven't looked at the screen (being scanned is a big phobia of mine, as I've seen all 3 of my lost babies without heartbeats on those screens. So hopefully if I get to 12 weeks I'll have a peek.)
You get scanned fortnightly from week 6 to 12. Except where j am in a edinburgh for some reason, they skip the 10 week one. But my very lovely trial nurse is arranging to squeeze me in for one regardless.
You can inject in your upper arm, thigh or tummy. It's just subcutaneous so only goes into the fleshy skin not muscles or veins. I inject in my tummy as it's the nearest location to the reproductive bits.
You'll get a big wad of info about the trial at your appointment. But if you want to read up a bit first there's some info if you Google Nora Therapeutics Response Trial, and feel free to ask us anything too.
Where are you based?

Mimi, fingers crossed you can get the time off or rearrange asap. I have to say although I'm not actually yet pregnant, I already feel more relaxed about ttc as I feel I have a support network around me from the hospital when the time comes.

I'm also not a fan of needles so I asked the trial nurse if she could show me an example of a needle when I went in and it was the smallest needle that I have ever seen, so I was reassured x

Choccywoccydodah · 28/03/2015 18:38

Mimi so glad you've got your appt, does your boss know about your losses? Really hope you manage to get to your appt as then you can start with some hope of getting a sticky bean :)
The jabs are a doddle, I do mine in my belly too, like size said, it's nearer! But also I think it's more convenient. HTF you're meant to inject into the back of your arm is beyond me!!

Size I didn't realise you didn't look at this one :( totally understand why.
Please look at your 10 week one though, or at least get a picture for you to look at later on. It's amazing to see how much they grow, and as much as I know you don't want to look due to the fear of losing, seeing that blob with a heartbeat has made me more and more hopeful each time. And yesterday was just amazing seeing their arms and legs. Please think about it.

I have my next appt Monday afternoon. My trial mw rang yesterday to see how things were and also to ask if I could be moved to Monday or Wednesday as no one is able to scan me tuesday. I said I'd been into epu for a scan and she said I could still come Tuesday if I wasn't wanting a scan due to the one yesterday. Err no love, I'll come Monday Grin Would've preferred Wednesday as a couple of days later on, but the only day in the week we have ds is a Wednesday so I didn't want to change that.

How's the creaks girlie? :)

girliesaints · 28/03/2015 18:57

Back home Choccy and to the comfort of my bed Grin Still not at ov testing yet, which is a good thing as DH is really annoying me today and it's the last thing I want to do!

sizethree · 28/03/2015 19:12

Thanks choccy, it's just that I've seen heartbeats before and that flicker is beautiful but when you see a scan screen of a baby that has died, it's the most haunting image ever.
The ultrasound technition on Thursday was grea. She said she printed off a picture and popped it in my notes so it's there just incase I want to look in the future.
i am feeling reassuringly sick today. I have reversed morning sickness. I tend to wake up feeling great and gradually deteriorate throughout the day. So by this time of the evening I'm having to lie flat and can't stomach anything.

Lol girlie, you keep your legs crossed love!

Totally understand size. So glad that you've got a piccy though for when you need it.
Your sickness is exactly the same as me! It was always in the evening (on occasion all day!) but once I'd gone to bed I was fine. Mine's more or less gone now, last Sunday was the last time I felt properly rough, still not much of an appetite but am eating more. Hopefully it won't hang around too much for you x
