Well that's it. After 13 years of being on the pill I am now not. For various reasons I didn't come off a few months ago to allow my cycle to get back to "normal" (who knows what that is when I was on the pill twice as long as I had periods naturally) so I have no idea how long it'll take me to ovulate. Anyone else in the same boat? Having spent my whole adult life assuming I'd get pregnant just by looking at a boy without BC I am now realising it might actually take months or even years to conceive. Plus I'm not talking about this with friends; they either got pregnant vv quickly or are no where near that stage. So, would be great to hear from a few of you in the same boat...

At least your gettin to the problem now and you will be able to do something about it. Xx

Emilyjane11 · 25/09/2014 19:27

It's not too late for us ainat we are due at the same time aren't we? On our period I mean? Xx

Emilyjane11 · 25/09/2014 19:50

Ainat yours looks positive!!

fortywinx · 25/09/2014 19:52

I'm struggling with this waiting malarky. Also kind of worried what my reaction will be if I test early and get a BFN (which is highly likely seeing as it's first month ttc anyway). I like to think I'll be totally fine about it, but I cried over nothing at a gathering at a friend's house on the weekend, so I'm pretty sure my hormones will betray me.

Ainat266 · 25/09/2014 19:53

Emily we are due AF at the same time I think. Still a few days to go til it's due...

ThenewMrsB82 · 25/09/2014 21:35

Haha yes..

Wink

kezaroo · 25/09/2014 21:53

Know how you feel Foxy. I was expecting to come on this week and so far, nothing! Want to wake up tomorrow with guaranteed pregnancy symptoms or af!!

kezaroo · 25/09/2014 21:54

I meant forty not foxy... [Grin]

kezaroo · 25/09/2014 21:55

Oh dear i really need to get used to this forum!

Emz1989 · 25/09/2014 23:15

Hi. Hope you don't mind me joining - I've just spent an hour reading this thread and feel so relieved that I'm not the only one driving myself mad in month 1 of ttc!! Hubby and I got married on 15th Aug, and I came off the pill then.... Spent a month dtd as much as poss and was (stupidly) heartbroken when af arrived on Saturday. I'd actually managed to convince myself I was going to get a bfp... sore boobs, totally irrational tears, lots of cramping. Turns out I'd just forgotten what a 'real' period feels like after 10 years on microgynon!! Time to toughen up, I just get a feeling DH and I in this for the long haul and it could take a while, but I don't know why I've lost all positive, excited feeling. So pleased to feel I've got somewhen to come for a chat though!! X

kezaroo · 26/09/2014 06:54

I am getting that feeling too emz.

Still No sign of af for me and I have just found out im going to be an auntie for the first time so feeling lower that I already was (in a selfish way).

Saying that I refuse to take a test until I show any clear indication that I am pregnant. Took 3 tests so far and definitely can't hack seeing another negative.

Anyway.... My mood today shows in my text above. Having 'One of those days' and I haven't even got out of bed yet

Emz1989 · 26/09/2014 07:33

Know the feeling kezaroo! My af has been and (almost) gone and I've still got low, dull, achy cramps.... So hard to know what's 'normal' post-pill! Af was nothing like this when I was on the pill.
DH is desperate for a BFP too, I've had to talk him through the science behind ovulation etc. bless him! Wouldn't tell him I'm now a registered user on mumsnet yet though, he might think I've gone mad! Can't believe how much this ttc business is taking over my life already!
Possibly a daft question - but now that I've had a true af does that mean I will definitely ovulate? Or could that take a while longer to regulate?
x

TheProofIsInThePudding · 26/09/2014 08:43

That sounds tough scienceteacher I'm sorry, you probably already said, how long have you been TTC?

Emz you can't say that you will definitely ovulate, but most likely you will be ovulating each month now. You can track various symptoms (temperature, cervical mucus, cervix position) and/or POAS (pee on a stick) to give you a good idea if and when you ovulate.

Hang in there kezaroo You won't be waiting indefinitely. At some point soon you'll get an answer.

fortywinx · 26/09/2014 10:59

Emz and Kez it is definitely nice to have somewhere to chat with people in the same boat! My OH is convinced that we will get a BFP on the first month, but I have tried to explain the science to him and how long the wait is actually likely to be. It doesn't help that a couple we know who are good friends of ours got pregnant the first time they tried! Their little girl is 4 months old now, and my ovaries want to explode every time I manage to get a giggle out of her XD

Got my cheapy ovulation sticks and preg sticks in the post yesterday so at least next month I should have a clearer idea of when I am actually ovulating. Still, AF isn't due until Tuesday/Wednesday so I guess there's still some hope she won't show up!

jellypi3 · 26/09/2014 11:30

Technically you can ovulate without having AF, the best thing to do is use an OPK (this can be costly).

However, I've taken the approach of just DTD every other day in the hope I do ovulate (I haven't had a period for 5 years now) because testing stresses me out too much lol

kezaroo · 26/09/2014 11:58

I Am thinking that might well be the best way Jelly.

I keep getting twinges in my stomach - but it's not where I would get stomach ache, it's more to the left hand side.

Emz1989 · 26/09/2014 14:42

Trying to not get too caught up in OPKs and I wouldn't know where to start with checking my cervical position!! I've been reading online though, and am going to give it a go - thought I knew everything I needed to know about my body at 25, but I'm literally learning something new every day at the mo!! I'm finding the ovia app very helpful, it's making me more away of symptoms and it's handy to have a visual way to see my most fertile time...
I'm agreeing with you there jelly DTD (and trying to enjoy it!!!) is bound to be the best thing for us here!!

Blue500 · 26/09/2014 15:50

Hi all, I thought I would join your post. I'm first time Ttc and finding all of this such a minefield. These posts have been such a comfort the last couple of day that I felt the need to join in.
I've only been off the pill for 2 weeks and stupidly thought I would have a bleed straight away and then my AF would resume a month after that. I had no idea that it would take a while to get back to normal and I had no idea the side effects of coming off the pill - exhaustion, bloating, massive appetite, sore nipples. And that's before I even get pg!! To make things worse I've developed cystitis this week so that's put a dampener on dtd. I can see that this is the first step on a very long journey and I don't know how I'm going to cope if this is going to take months and months to get BFP.
I'm so happy to know that others are in the same boat! Smile

TeamJ83 · 26/09/2014 16:40

I am so confused - only been off the pill a few weeks and getting a lot of pg relayed symptoms. Although from everything I've read (and that's a lot) the symptoms of coming off the pill and ovulating are very simat to that of early pg. There's now thing that had happened and I though if throw it out here to get an opinion - I LOVE cheese but last night I couldn't eat it and felt really nauseous and even the smell of it I couldn't cope with. Same again today, even the thought of it is making my stomach turn...?? Is this normal 'coming off the pill' symptoms???
So confused!!!!

ThenewMrsB82 · 26/09/2014 17:06

Hi Ems.. I got married 15th August too..

Well AF just arrived so I'm definitely not pm..
Good luck for this month everyone.. Someone soon is going to have A BFP. (a real one.. Not the type I had where I peed on the wrong stick haha) x

Skiptonlass · 26/09/2014 17:34

I've been having very odd hormonal symptoms the last week. I was actually being sick (and I'm never sick...) and my boobs were sore, sense of smell heightened. Not sure what happened but it sort of went away after a week or so . Interestingly, I've just gotten my first positive on an opk today. It's a blazing positive, after four weeks of neither period nor even a tiny faint second line on the stick.
Needless to say, the husband has been dragged into the boudoir and told to get making babies !

Joey0805 · 26/09/2014 19:23

Hi new ladies!

Skiptonlass - I have up on my OPKs this month just sort of assuming I hadn't ovulated and have been waiting for AG but sounds like based on your experience I might want to keep going and wait for AF or a positive OPK... It was just getting so depressing with no 2nd line, not even a hint of a line, ever appearing!! Good luck:)

TeamJ83 - hmmmm, when are you due to POAS?!

Statistically one of us should get pregnant this month - looking forward to our first BFP (and, for many of us, first ovulation post-pill).

OP posts:
kezaroo · 26/09/2014 21:16

I do hope so Joey that would be fab for whatever. fingers crossed!!

Well I've had one slight bit of pink spotting. But I thought implantation would have happened by now.

Still not taking a test though!

kezaroo · 26/09/2014 21:16

Whoever Not whatever! Need to learn to type on my phone

Skiptonlass · 26/09/2014 22:07

Joey, I bought a ton of Internet cheapies and I've been obsessively peeing on them twice a day for the last four weeks! With nothing (not even a hint of a second line) until yesterday afternoon.
Tested with the digital clear blue doodah and got a high fertility smiley as well.... Just keep on peeing !
I had my mirena removed a little while back so I was unsure as to how long it'd take me to have a normal period (nothing so far) or ovulate (four and a half weeks.) I think the mirena doesn't stop you ovulating so maybe I just missed last time? I suppose it'll take a few cycles to get to know what's happening when.
Good luck to everyone! Hoping you get those positives soon :) and if not...hey ho, you can have a guilt free glass of vino to celebrate.
