Well that's it. After 13 years of being on the pill I am now not. For various reasons I didn't come off a few months ago to allow my cycle to get back to "normal" (who knows what that is when I was on the pill twice as long as I had periods naturally) so I have no idea how long it'll take me to ovulate. Anyone else in the same boat? Having spent my whole adult life assuming I'd get pregnant just by looking at a boy without BC I am now realising it might actually take months or even years to conceive. Plus I'm not talking about this with friends; they either got pregnant vv quickly or are no where near that stage. So, would be great to hear from a few of you in the same boat...

Joey, I take my temperature as soon as I get up in the morning. Mine varies between 36.05 and 36.10, and I think I'm supposed to be looking for a temperature rise of 0.2. it doesn't really help to predict ovulation, it just tells you that ovulation has occurred, which is why I'm using opks too.

Thanks Emily, I'll have a look into that - knowledge is power in my opinion, so the more I understand the better.

AF arrived properly overnight - first one since having my implant out, so hopefully that's a sign that my body is trying to get back to normal. I serious cba with work today, I've got all KS3 today (I actually had to do a kid's tie yesterday cos yr7 can't dress themselves properly yet) and its open evening so I have to be here til 8 tonight.

Baffers100 · 11/09/2014 09:22

Did a test yesterday and got a BFN. I wasn't that surprised, but I wish I understood why I was getting such bad cramps an no AF! I am tempted to get a ClearBlue digital ovulation doo dah off ebay, and I am also tempted to buy the "taking charge of your fertility" book, but then I don't want to become the wife from hell, constantly truing to get knocked up (even if that's the intention!) Maybe it would explain things a bit more though. Has anybody got this book? Would you recommend?

Jessica85 · 12/09/2014 00:14

baffers I don't have it, and I've learnt a lot from MN and other google sources so I'll probs try a few months of this stuff before I start buying books for more info. I also use ic opks and an ic bbt thermometer, cos I'm not prepared to spend money on stuff like cbfm until I've tried the cheaper alternatives. But then again I'm saving for a bednest I'm a bit careful with money.

Ok. So here's my story which I hope brings some of you women some comfort.

I'm 24 and ttc #1. Husband and I decided it was time to get off the pill the day after we got married on July 5th, 2014. I had been on the pill for about 10 years and also thought it would take forever to conceive. Turns out I was wrong. Last Monday, we found out we were expecting. You can imagine my surprise when, less than 2 months off the pill, I conceived. Unfortunately I lost it not even 3 days later but that's not the point. I too was sceptic. It is in fact possible. And although we lost our first pregnancy, we are comforted with the fact that even the doctor gave us the go ahead to try again as soon as we were ready. We are trying to conceive again and hopefully, I'm one of those lucky woman who is extremely fertile after Mc.

TheProofIsInThePudding · 12/09/2014 01:33

Hello folks! We're just about to start TTC#1 too. We have been using condoms, so I don't have to contend with any artificial hormones leaving my system. AF is due today and I think I can feel the first twinges of cramps... it'll be all systems go in a week or so! I'm not going to be temping or using OPKs (at least at first!) We're just going to have regular sex, cross our fingers and see what happens. Good luck to you all!

Baffers100 · 12/09/2014 12:23

Joey I am in the same position! Ended on 19th August and have had nothing since apart from a 3 day withdrawal bleed. I've downloaded Ovia on my phone which is good and am going to test at the start and end of October. Fingers crossed.

ThenewMrsB82 · 12/09/2014 16:59

I'm reading the The Impatient Woman's guide to getting pregnant. It's got all the info that you find from various places in one go! Really good. x

Joey0805 · 14/09/2014 19:53

I'm not reading anything but now using Ovia given the good reviews. So far not being on the pill has been fine - no side effects at all - going to start using ovulation tests as, if my cycle were to get back to normal right away, that should be in the next couple of days...

I've read the book, its good cause you can skip past the chapters your not interested in or that aren't applicable. I just read it in one go this afternoon! X

ThenewMrsB82 · 14/09/2014 20:40

I'm on my first official 2ww.. Anyone else?? X

Emilyjane11 · 14/09/2014 21:56

ThenewMrsB82 · 14/09/2014 22:22

Emilyjane11 · 14/09/2014 22:31

The 28th for me!!

Baffers100 · 15/09/2014 15:49

Genuinely excited this morning at the arrival of EWCM. According to Ovia I am fertile this week, come on body!

Fizzy13 · 15/09/2014 16:45

Newbie here, can I join in?
32, married a year and off bc for 2 months.
As usual I think we're over thinking the whole thing. 1st month off I had ALL the symptoms of being pg but after an horrific late period I clearly wasn't.
Now having done some googling we think I probably was and it just didn't take hold. Now we're umming and aahing about whether we want a july baby and when might mess with my training contract the least etc.
Pretty sure it shouldn't be this complicated and there never is going to be the "right" time!

Emslifechoices · 15/09/2014 16:51

I'm a newbie who is about to embark on TTC too!

My last pill pack was meant to finish on Friday but was going camping for the weekend so ran anther pack straight away. Stupid question but can I just stop half way through a pack or should I wait until the end? I've also bought those ridiculously expensive vitamins too.

Baffers100 · 15/09/2014 16:58

Hi Emslifechoices
You can come off mid pack (I did). You will spend the next month in limbo though not knowing what your body is doing. If you stop mid pack, after 3-4 days you'll have a bleed for a few days whcih is because your body no longer has all these hormones through it. This isn't an actual period.
You're better off running to the end, having a 'pill period/withdrawal bleed', then having an actual period before starting, then you have a better idea about ovulating and when you're fertile etc, and this helps date the arrival oif your baby.

Emslifechoices · 15/09/2014 17:01

Thanks Baffers. I've only taken the pills for Sat, Sun, Mon from this pack so will those three days make that much difference?! I'm not convinced my body would notice the additional 3 days...

Shellbell0403 · 15/09/2014 20:33

Hi ladies...

I need help to ?? I'm new to this site and also the coming off the pill etc! But confused and uncertain about the whole thing ??

Help please...

Came off the pill on 13th aug, withdrawal bleed on 18th, got married 24th and just back honeymoon! ???? the dreaded one was supposed to come today and nothing has arrived... Done a test sat but neg?

Anyone any advice?

Thank xxx

Baffers100 · 15/09/2014 20:44

Hello,

Ye it would make a difference, basically because while you've been on pill the only reason you have a period is for 7 days you're not giving your body the usual dose or hormones in the pilll, and so you have a bleed. It's not classed as a true period by the doctors.

I came off on the 19th August after 8 days on a pack. I had a bleed for about 3 days that was a light period. Now, I've still not had a proper period but I know I am ovulating (won't go in to the gory details on this post!) so looks like I am "in business!"

Start taking folic acid as soon as you stop taking the pill, and if you haven't already, get an app on your phone called Ovia. It's free and really helps you understand what is going on!

Shellbell There's a few things, now you've come off the pill, your periods won't come when they used to. The pill was keeping them regular as clockwork, but you don't take that anymore. Unless you ovulated between stopping the pill and now it's unlikely (I think) that you could be pregnant yet. (To track ovulating, people on here take their BBT (Basal Body Temperature), or chart their cervix position and CM- look in to these. I do the latter two).
Plus, the earliest you can really test is the 1st day of the missed period (unless you get an early response doo dah).

I am planning on I DTD every 2 days, and testing once a month.

Emilyjane11 · 15/09/2014 20:49

I'm getting a little disheartened already, i don't know whats wrong with me. I think im ovulating now and i have been DTD every day haha. But for some reason i don't think the chances of me being pregnant this month are that high considering i have only just come off the pill. I think im setting myself up for a fall. And i really don't want to do that, does anyone else think they are getting carried away?

Joey0805 · 15/09/2014 20:54

Emslifechoices I'm not a doctor but I can't see why you can't stop now; it'll be a pill period however many more you do from this packet and if you take all of them or not your first cycle could be totally weird anyway. As i said, not a doctor though!

Emily I'm getting farrrrrrrrrr too carried away.

I'm like a woman possessed! TTC#1, been at it two months, ovulated a couple of days ago on day17. I know this because I've been obsessed with the phone app for 14months now, bought the ovulation sticks, bought the thermometer and now you've just told me about the cervix position thing!

It's our 2yr wedding anniversary 2 weeks today and I'd LOVE to have a BFP before then!

Hope you don't mind me joining!

Emilyjane11 · 15/09/2014 21:00

Not at all scienceteachergeek im glad im not the only one! Im so excited that i can't contain myself im inpatient person as it is! I'm not temping yet but submitting my info on the app and checking my cervix. Why can't it be "i want to get pregnant now" "oh okay here ya go, enjoy!!!"

Shellbell0403 · 15/09/2014 21:12

Thanks Baffers!

It's just so horrible that the symptoms are so similar to early pregancy! I think i did ovulate but don't think I am pregnant yet! Can't wait to be though! Have been taking folic acid and the conceive multivitamins too! Do you or anyone have any other tips etc? Xx
