Hello,

Was just wondering whether anybody has had a similar experience?

When trying for first child got pregnant the first month, however that ended in MC. Luckily I got pregnant again with DD after first month of trying again.

DD is now three, we would have started TTC sooner but I went back I Uni and I'm due to finish in November.

We have been trying for 5 months and no luck, worried that I've left it too late as I'm now 37.

yay metal :)

HazleNutt · 01/10/2014 12:09

newbie mine as well, or even Tuesday.

furtivefeline · 01/10/2014 13:10

Hi, I'm new to the thread but would love to join.

I'm nearly 34, have dd aged 2 and TTC number 2 for 5 months. I know it's not long in the scheme of things but am really struggling to remain patient and find each 2ww so hard.

Both my close friends who had dc1 at the same time are already pg/have dc2. All the toddler group mums seem to be pg or already have dc2. In fact I can't seem to walk down the street at the moment without seeing bumps!

I really hoped for a smallish age gap but had terrible PND after dd so decided to wait to TTC until I was fairly sure I could cope with a newborn again. Now wishing we had started earlier.

Does anyone have any tips for making the tww any easier? I'm thinking I need to plan lots of things to distract me!

GingerbreadHead · 01/10/2014 13:44

Hi everyone, lots of new names so hello and welcome to you, but sorry that you are here!
No time to reply to everyone individually (lunch break) but just wanted to say yey to metal and good luck! And loves I am glad you are feeling ok and fairly positive about the situation if is was a mmc, it does seem like a long time to have AF for, have you done any pg tests at all? I thought that the pg hormones stuck around for a bit after a mc, but it could well be different for a very early mc or chemical.
Well my scan went well, I think? She did an ultrasound and then the dildo cam, which wasn't too uncomfortable at all. If you ignore the fact a strange woman had her hand up my fanny for twenty minutes.....Anyway she said everything looked clear and how you would expect it to look Hmm She wasn't particularly friendly or interested in my situation, just said well it can take a while for some people to have another baby. No. Shit. and that I could discuss the results with my Dr in a week. So, still none the wiser.

Metalhead · 01/10/2014 14:28

Welcome furtive, I'm afraid I have no advice on 2ww as I'm always completely loopy by the end of it.

Glad your scan went well Ginger, even if the woman doing it was a bit of an arse.

I've got another blood test on Friday as GP wanted me to have one on the day I ovulate or day after, though I'm not quite sure why; progesterone is usually done 7 days after ov isn't it, so I'm fully expecting to be told to go back next week Friday for test number 3...

Also got my first acupuncture appt tomorrow so will report back on that!

HazleNutt · 01/10/2014 15:21

Considering that I have already peed on a stick this morning and am currently sitting here prodding my boobs to see if they are getting tender (lucky that I have my own office, eh?), sorry, no advice on how to handle the 2ww like a sane person Grin

lovesmycake · 01/10/2014 17:29

Nope no advise for the two week window except to get on here tell us all about it and be reassured that you are not, in fact going crazy and that you are in fact in excellent company ..... welcome to the madhouse :)

ginger I hope you have a good gp who will be able to tell you the results and reassure you! I'm sorry but the comment 'it can take a while for some people to have another baby' I'm surprised you didn't punch hergive her a piece of your mind. Oh well at least she didn't say 'just relax' !!

BobsyBoo · 01/10/2014 22:33

momwhereismy My OH is exactly the same just doesn't get that there are only two fertile days!

Metal yah for the +OPK & great that you managed to DTD last night.

Furtivefeline hello, it is hard seeing others who had their first at same time pg with second when you're struggling. I've been TTC that long I can't suggest anything to distract yourself on 2ww it's hard isn't it. Good luck.

Ginger glad you're scan went well sorry the lady performing the scan wasn't more helpful it's rubbish when docs/medical people aren't helpful or understanding.

HazleNutt I'm a terrible boob prodder.

newbie thanks for sharing that, was thinking of trying that anyway it's similar to the 'egg meets sperm' I've already warned OH that we need to DTD every other day from Friday.

HazleNutt · 02/10/2014 10:45

I think we've missed a month again thanks to "but do we have to, I'm tired.." Hmm No symptoms, not even the usual imaginary ones.
DH is normally a smart guy, how come he does not get it? And he really wants another and keeps asking "so?? anything yet??". Well, sperm needs to meet the egg first and that won't happen if there are no deeds done.

farfallarocks · 02/10/2014 10:49

hazle I hear ya, the DHs just don't get it and its so frustrating, mine is the same!
metal sounds like you have timed things perfectly!
bobsy good luck with the DTD, my DH is away this month at the relevant time, gah!

My monitoring cycle has been cancelled, my day 1 and day 3 blood results are bizarre, FSH at about 3 and oestrogen at 500 and then 1000! Doctor said I can't possible be having a proper period with those oestrogen levels and its a breakthough bleed or something odd and that we have to start again next month. My progesterone levels are low though (I thought maybe I weas preggers!) Very frustrating and very very odd indeed. I wonder if this has something to do with my period being so late? Apparently could be a cyst or some left over lining. They really questioned if I was having proper period and I really am, I mean I have had them for 20 years so I think I know what one looks like! Gah!! So another delay but I suppose these treatments never run smoothly.

HazleNutt · 02/10/2014 10:56

farfalla at least they know there's something odd going on and can start investigating. Better than being fobbed off with 'just relax!'

furtivefeline · 02/10/2014 13:25

Thanks for the welcome! Though I'm disappointed at the lack of suggestions for surviving the 2ww! Only CD5 here and already obsessing.

Yesterday I wrote a list of positive things about having a larger-than-planned age gap between dc1&2 and that helped for a bit. Obviously I'd love it to happen now but I wish someone could just guarantee it will definitely happen sometime rather than not at all!

Sorry to hear about all the non-compliant DH/DPs. Annoying that yours will be away during the important time farfalla. Think I might be in the same boat this cycle unless I can convince my stubborn ovaries to pop one out early.

HazleNutt · 02/10/2014 14:53

Actually, I've lost count now, would people mind making a list, so we know who is who? I can start:

HazleNutt, almost 36, DS 15 months. Been trying 4 months now. Everything seems to be in working order.

Metalhead · 02/10/2014 15:07

Sorry you're hormones are playing up farfalla, must be something in this water this cycle! I'm hoping my blood test tomorrow will finally show ovulation.

Had my first acupuncture session this morning. She said I need to drink more water as I'm dehydrated, and thought I might have a hormone imbalance with low progesterone. The treatment itself was ok, most of the needles just stung a little bit for a second going in, apart from one she put on the inside of my wrist which really hurt! Anyway, going back in 2 weeks for another session so we'll see.

Good idea re: stats hazle, mine are:

Metalhead, age 35, DD age 4, been ttc for 14 months (10 cycles) with 1 mmc in Feb.

LittlePoot · 02/10/2014 15:57

My only advice for the 2ww is to test and get the bfn as soon as possible so you stop thinking about it..... Grrrr. Still cross about mine - really thought I had it this month. Hospital appoinment in a fortnight, but trying not to hold out too much hope - just relax seems to be the standard advice.

Ginger - can you tell me anything else about your scan? Is this the first/only you've had or are there others? And was it just a scan or with that dye stuff added in? Would it pick up blocked tubes or weirdly scarred wombs?

My stats (which look even less pretty written down):
LittlePoot, age 39, DS age 3 2/3, been ttc for 15 months (15 cycles) My hormone/ovulation bloods looked fine, DH 98% abnormal forms (normal range up to 96%) but high count and got me pregnant 3 times before DS so they can't be that bad!

HazleNutt · 02/10/2014 16:03

little see that does not work for me either, I just convince me that it was too early to test and keep peeing on those sticks.
With DS, it actually took ages to get a line on the internet cheapos - ages after CB digital gave me a "pregnant". (No, not because I didn't trust the CB, I had a load of cheapos left over and wanted to see the line getting darker, as had a mmc the previous month).

LittlePoot · 02/10/2014 17:16

Yes - I do have the same problem, so I balance that with only buying one 2-pack of sticks a month and now I don't work near any shops, that seems to stop the peeing frenzy. Of course, there's always a little thought in the back of my mind that maybe it was too early, but that's easier to suppress after seeing 2 bfns and let's me get back on with my work! Definitely out this month though - can't pass this one off as an implantation bleed.....

HazleNutt · 02/10/2014 20:41

Yes, buying a bag of 50 one step pregnancy tests from Amazon (£7.92 ) is definitely not a good idea Grin

LittlePoot · 02/10/2014 20:56

No - dreadful idea she says while googling the Amazon site

furtivefeline · 02/10/2014 21:32

Hehe, yes that's my problem too - no matter how many snowy white test sticks I see, I can't quite seem to accept BFN as an answer - just tell myself it's too early etc etc. By the time AF arrives I'm usually quite grateful for a definite answer and an end to the madness.

I've gone the other way and tried to stop myself PO any S till at least 10DPO to limit the time spent getting my hopes up!

My stats: furtivefeline, nearly 34, DD aged 2, TTC no 2 for 5 months

BobsyBoo · 02/10/2014 22:37

What is wrong with these men they want another as much as us but are not prepared to do what it takes, it's so frustrating.

Thanks farfallarocks I'll have to warn OH again that we need to start DTD every other night from tomorrow because I'm sure he will 'forget'. Oh no. Sorry you're having problems hope the the doctors get it sorted for you soon. A lot of this I don't even understand all I get told as all my doctor can say is it's because of my age.

Metalhead Glad the acupuncture treatment went okay, I don't really understand much about it, how is it meant to help? I'm thinking of trying it myself.

Well I must be the only one who doesn't POAS! I just wait for the inevitable. Apart from the cycle before last when I had brown spotting at 10dpo and convinced myself it was implantation but of course got a BFN.

My Stats (probably over all the worst):

BobsyBoo, 38, DD aged 4, TTC no 2 for 21 months (21 cycles), also thinking about giving up but can't bring myself to do it and OH doesn't agree.

Metalhead · 03/10/2014 07:36

I'm a bit of a poas addict too, though it have managed to rein it in until at least 10dpo! I blame the cheap Amazon sticks...

My temp was up this morning so I'm hopeful I've finally ovulated and the blood test later will confirm it.

bobsy I'm not quite sure exactly how acupuncture is supposed to work either, you'd probably best google it. Something to do with pressure points... Confused

lovesmycake · 03/10/2014 08:15

bobsy I don't poas either I don't trust them because I got a negative for so long after I was pg with DS (and that was CB digital ones!).

My stats (should point out I'm also an imposter on this thread because no#1 wasn't easy for me took a year and a MC to get there!)

loves 32, DS will be 2 next friday, TTC no 2 for 12 months.

HazleNutt · 03/10/2014 13:23

Just sitting here, having no pregnancy symptoms whatsoever. Sigh.

MisterSafetyCatchIsNotOn · 03/10/2014 14:45

Oh I wish I had found this thread earlier, can I join you please? I got pregnant on the 4th cycle with DS, he is now 2.3 and we have been trying for 14 months for number 2. I have probable PCOS with very irregular cycles but have had blood tests which confirm I am ovulating, so no idea why it's not happening for us Sad DH has a semen analysis test next week and then we'll be referred on to a fertility clinic for more tests / treatment. I'm finding it so tough at the moment as have a grand total of 5 friends with similar age DC1 who are now expecting their second!

Will go back and read through the rest of the thread now (for as long as DS's nap lasts anyway) - oh furtive just spotted your idea of a list of positives for a bigger age gap, that's a brilliant idea I may have to steal. I was aiming for a 2 year gap and just feel a bit in limbo not knowing how long / if it will ever happen!
