Fabulous news Barking. Just what you were hoping for.

Tiger that sucks about the ivf protocol. Though superb news about Mr Tigers jizz. I also had a fc appt today. There is a more detailed plan in place now for if I ever get diffed again (daily heparin injections) and I have to start now a prescription dose of a huge amount of folic acid. About 12 x the usual amount! I asked what happens now as we are at 20 month mark and my jaw dropped when he said we could be referred for IVF if we wanted. I thought he would throw clomid at me for a bit. He says from deciding we want it there is a 6 week wait during which there is a lot of form filling and then the process is started immediately (which he said would take 7 weeks). How can areas vary so much in terms of what they offer and when? So unfair.

Good luck with the basting RP.

HB and Bushy hope you are noth happily PUPO'ing away.

Good night all

Ooops! Somehow I bolded all of that sentence instead of just your name Tiger !

barkingtreefrog · 13/05/2014 23:20

Wow funky that's amazing! Did you diff naturally before? Round here that would put the 2 year count back to 0 Shock . Ridiculous.
Beaky apart from the inconvenience of multiple dildocams and injections IUI has been fine so far. The most distressing bit was seeing the lady who went in before me this morning come out in tears Sad . She was waiting on the doorstep with me last week as well (they do all scans and blood tests between 8-9.30 in order of arrival, so to get one of the first appointments and get to work you have to turn up and queue outside from 7.30). I told DH he had to come with me this morning in case it wasn't good news but now we know there's just one follicle and everything seems ok I'll be going on my own tomorrow.

As if today wasn't exhausting enough I rode my bike to the cinema with DH tonight and only just got back. 8 miles of steep uphill all the way there!! I want the bike emoticon! How do I do it from the app?! Bike ?!

tiger good work mr t on the SA. I gave DH man vitamins but he's still on the same packet I gave him months and months ago Angry .

barkingtreefrog · 13/05/2014 23:22

Woohoo!! Bike Bike Bike Grin Grin Grin

greatbigbushybeard · 13/05/2014 23:42

Mmm, hunkering down under the duvet of divine hope!

tiger go mr tiger! that's a mega improvement! I think it really boosts men when their count is improved, not so easy for us ladies to so quickly or easily improve our side of things. When I was told I had low amh and low ovarian reserve I asked was there anything I could do to improve the quality of what I had, the rather blunt doctor said no, apart from not smoking or being overweight.he thought diet and supplements made no difference to egg quality. I beg to differ, I've taken royal jelly and think that has made an improvement, i was also taking co enzyme q 10 too which is meant to help too. At Ivf they said my eggs looked good so maybe it's helped.

I would def second getting a laparoscopy done. It was suggested to me after the dildocam revealed small ovaries and low follicle count. Our lovely doctor wanted to see if endometriosis was affecting things. She was right, it was, one of my ovaries was stuck and they found a lot of stage 2 endo, which I wasn't aware of at all, that all got lazered off. They also found that my tubes were sluggish when they also put the dye through them. It's not a small op,it's done under ga, you have to fast etc and you will def need a few days, if not a week+ off work. I felt very sore afterward and had nearly 2 weeks off as I had the week of op and then it was half term. I think it depends how physical your job is, it hurt each time I stood up and sat down which you do a lot of when you're a teacher. They also say that for 3 mths after a lap you are very fertile as everything has had a good jetwash! It didn't work for me but another friend had one done, got a cyst removed and boom got up duffed.

Dildocams- I remember being horrified when I first saw the length of the flipping probe!! Now that I've done quite a few because of the Ivf, everytime I go past the clinic I have to fight a strange compulsion to drop my knickers!!

Well done barking, good news! glad the resignation meeting went ok too.

rp go basting!! What is your doctor like, er hello it IS a postcode lottery, perhaps you should print off that spreadsheet of all the different ccgs (?)allowances in that guardian article I linked to earlier. I think different trusts follow more of the NICE guidelines than others and some manage their money poorly. It's a tricky one as if they all gave 3 gos then there would be a big increase in budgets and expenditure.

On my god, the kittens were lush, they're less than a week old and sooo tiny and squeaky!! Tad jealous when both my mum and dad kept banging on about what a good mother she is!!

greatbigbushybeard · 13/05/2014 23:44

barking ah poor lady coming out. Sounds a little crazy having to queue.

funkymonk · 13/05/2014 23:48

Good effort with the cycling there barking. I feel tired just at the thought of an 8 mile up hill struggle. Hope tomorrow's scan shows the 17mm follicle.

Yes I got diffed twice naturally. I was expecting that to restart the timer as well. I was sure he'd say 'have some clomid and come back in 6 months or so'. I think we will wait for another few cycles and see if we can manage a successful natural diffment with the injections.

The dog has decided to sleep on the bed and me and Mr Monk are squashed on one side while the big puppy takes up the whole thing!

Oh barking, pleased to hear you handed your notice in. My sister has been teaching just 6 years and can't stand it for the same reasons as you. She is planning on jacking it in and looking at counselling or something instead. She said a lot of her teacher friends are the same. Such a shame.

RosieintheAlps · 14/05/2014 06:37

Good morning, I should have checked MN last night to snuggle up under the duvet of hope. Have been having rather dark days with ttc and bereavement sadness...

barking, I echo everyone else's comments. Good to hear you handed in your notice and the IUI treatment seems to be progressing well. Fingers crossed for follie today.

tiger, wow, what an improvement for Mr Tiger. This has given me some hope that DP might be able to improve his SA results too. I have been pretty negative about this given the very low starting point. He has actually been very good with his vits (he has an alarm on his phone/ calendar set to remind himself to take them. Maybe something to suggest to Mr Barking (even if it is a bit geeky)?

Happy, the private FC I went to did an internal scan pretty much as the first thing when I saw them. I am used to them, at home (i.e. European mainland) they are part of the course in the regular, annual gyno monitoring. I have to admit I have quite strong views about the quality and extent of provision here compared to what I was used to before living here. At home, I can choose my doctors, have as many specialists as I want and I still feel the emphasis there is on prevention of illness/ disease rather than curing symptoms with paracetamol. My doctor at home is lovely and I would love to be treated by her, alas, you have to be married for IvF (stupid old-fashioned sexist attitudes) and that is currently not part of the plan.

Enjoy the holiday Rain, hope there will be lots of sun. Nolly, I've heard that advice before. It's often accompanied by a shrug which to me dismisses the pain of "assisted reproduction" - but then I am fully aware I overthink things and this advice usually comes from friends who are a lot more pragmatic than me.

Have a good day everyone. Sorry for long post.x

RosieintheAlps · 14/05/2014 06:39

RP, am confused about the basting. I thought that was a one-off for a weekend with the PILs? Why are you continuing it? Sorry, I forgot...

funkymonk · 14/05/2014 07:51

Sorry rp I missed your post last night. Your go sounds like a fool!

Hi rosie! Sorry to hear you've been feeling a bit down lately. Where is it that you're from? I was on holiday when you joined so missed your intro.

What are people's opinion on baby aspirin? Does anyone take it after ovulation?

OP posts:
funkymonk · 14/05/2014 07:52

Gp not go, obviously!

OP posts:
beakybeak · 14/05/2014 08:41

RP your doctor??! Crazy that she wouldn't know!

Funky glad you have a good plan in place and woohoo to your potential IVF referral and waiting times! They are excellent. I know what you mean about expecting to be sent off with clomid - I expected that too!

Bushy laughing quite loudly on the train re the knicker dropping! How are you doing anyway? Crossing everything for you.

Rosie sorry to hear you are struggling, come on here to vent or chat anytime. Bereavement and ttc together must be extremely difficult. Hugs to you. It sounds like where you are from has great health care, I also hate how treatment here is reactive rather than proactive and even then you have to push and be persistent so as not to be fobbed off. Shame about the IVF criteria though.

beakybeak · 14/05/2014 08:44

Funky I think I will try the aspirin next cycle, I'm going to try everything I can find for a fufc before iui. Mainly cause I'm so stressed about having to have time off work for iui!

Bunnygirlie · 14/05/2014 09:18

Glad scan went well barking hope all continues to go to plan!

tiger my consultant suggested endo (as well as PCO) at my first appt, I assumed by painful periods were just what every woman got. During my laparoscopy and hysteroscopy she cleared away the endo, also detached one ovary which was stuck due to the endo. And my periods after were less painful by the way Smile
Sorry to hear about the long wait though, the trusts really are so different to each other.

BlindKitty · 14/05/2014 09:56

rp wtf re your GP?! I'd worry about what else she doesn't know!

barking how many mm is the folly at today?

barkingtreefrog · 14/05/2014 10:10

rosie sorry you're having dark days, come perch on the pouffe of possibility and see how you go.

funky I was debating the baby asprin thing, but don't want to take anything at the same time as the IUI is happening.

beaky the time off work is a killer. So far I've managed to get to work by 8.35 after the scan, but as I'm working from home today I wasn't so desperate to get there and queue outside at 7.30 because yesterday there were only a couple of other women there by the time they opened the doors anyway. Big mistake. I got there at 7.50 and there were already 10 women in front of me waiting for the clinic to open Angry. I've only just got home and turned on the computer now - I usually start work at 7 so now have three hours to catch up Sad. I had three scans at the beginning but that was because of the spotting, normally it would only be one.

16mm folly today, have to call for my blood results later. From the results of the bloods I'll either be treated tomorrow (unlikely, they normally wait for 17mm but she said some women ovulate on a 16mm folly, I can't imagine I do if my ovulation is usually very late anyway) or I'll be in for another scan tomorrow and treatment will be Friday or Saturday, which she thought more likely. So assuming one more scan tomorrow then treatment, in two weeks that will be 7 visits to the hospital. Good job DH found a road to park on with cheaper parking than the hospital car park....

I really hope it's not tomorrow, I panicked this morning when I realised if treatment is Friday and the swimmers need to be 2-5 days old we'd have to dtd this morning as we were both knackered on Monday and didn't get in until 11 last night - so made demands of DH at 6.30am Shock. The swimmers now need 48 hours to rejuvenate! Friday or Saturday would be 2-3 days which would be perfect!

BlindKitty · 14/05/2014 16:50

barking we weren't allowed to dtd until afterwards in case I'd overstimmed! It was amazing haha, we both well and truly needed a holiday from sex at the time! I bet your 17mm tomorrow

barkingtreefrog · 14/05/2014 17:05

kitty they didn't mention anything apart from the 2-5 day thing, but we hadn't dtd this cycle until this morning, and we already knew there was only 1 follicle! No dtd until afterwards now, although by the next day there probably won't be much point in ttc terms! Not looking forward to the longest two weeks of my life... I can't remember, did you cave and poas before the official test?

RevoltingPeasant · 14/05/2014 17:33

Helloooooooo!

Barking congrats.

So we basted last night - can't remember who asked, but due to DH's ED, we can't always dtd but he can achieve results on his own, so this means we have more chances. But it was about 24hrs after OV by my reckoning so may have been too late?? I think I OV on CD16 and we dtd CD 13, 15, and basting 17. Phew!

I must say, syringes are super-romantic, just like in the movies....

Kitty where are you at now? You must be over the halfway mark - ?

My GP is pretty okay actually, she's mostly on the ball. I just don't think she knows about other parts of the country - and why should she, as she's not going to be referring me there. She certainly beats my old Yorkshire GP, whose highlight was jabbing me hard in an infected kidney, and, when I remarked through tears that that hurt, rejoined 'I'm not bothered about that'. Well I fucking well am you old trout

Anyhow, peace and sunshine, peace and sunshine.....

BlindKitty · 14/05/2014 17:42

barking they told me we could dtd the evening of it even though the sperm wouldn't be great quality but after that it was pointless. I like to pretend the winning sperm was from then!

rp erm try being due a week tomorrow!!!' Grin. Tbf to your GP I guess she doesn't spend every waking minute on mn like we do talking to other people in the uk! How are you doing anyway?

RevoltingPeasant · 14/05/2014 18:37

Good but undiffed.

Due. In. A week - !!

How the friggety frig did that happen?

Do you know what you are having yet, I forget?

And will you post a lovely birth update, pretty please? because you will probably not have much else to do

HampshireBlues · 14/05/2014 19:35

RP if that had been my GP I would have probably leant over the desk and throttled them!
Rosie really sorry you are having such a hard time, berry hq is always open for you.
Barking I can't believe that you have to queue; what a waste of everyones time, and how stressful for both patients and staff.

TheRainDrops · 14/05/2014 20:05

What is it with this country and queuing?? A fertility clinic is not a fish and chip shop - where's the dignity?? Pffff. Hopefully Friday is the charm barking

I am trying to be organised and pack tonight even tho we don't fly till Saturday, have just bunged a load of shit in the suitcase and will just hope for the best.

I found myself wondering to myself earlier whether I even really want children, and then felt awful. I am so messed up in the head!

funkymonk · 14/05/2014 20:11

Good stuff with the follie growth Barking and naughty you for giving your husband a 6.30am booty call! Very necessary though of course!

Beaky the aspirin thing seems widely used and I have been taking it for a couple of cycles too. My consultant was cross when I told him yesterday and said a leading professor claims that aspirin affects the quality of the egg. I have done a bit of research and it seems that aspirin can improve implantation rates but also can affect the egg quality and the quality of the eggs getting ready for the next cycle. It's a tough one. I'm not sure whether to continue it or not. I'm thinking maybe I'll start it at 7dpo until af???

RP I hope your basting efforts didn't miss your window of opportunity.

Tiger do you have the option to pick another fertility clinic in your local area that may have different policy? If not is the place that you are living a long-term thing? Would you consider moving home, even just a few miles could make a difference. That may seem like drastic action. About 6 years ago a friend actually moved from Wales to England so they were entitled to more IVF. That sounds extreme, but they only lived 14 miles away from the border! Hopefully as you say though, your wait might be reduced to maybe just another 6 months if their policies are being reviewed?
