I've just read Toni Weschler's book Taking Charge of your Fertility and found it really interesting. It took us over 2 years to have our daughter and we're trying for number 2 so I'm ready to give anything a shot. I'm just interested to know how well known this approach is, and also to hear of successful experiences.

And have you got to be 100% in a kind of sitting position!

fredly · 23/08/2006 15:18

I'll just add that the cervical position is an optional test. If the temp and the CM are clear enough for you I think there's no real need to check your cervix. You don't want to end up with too much information, it could be a bit too much to handle iyswim.

Babymad4num3 · 23/08/2006 15:27

My temp has gone to pot, and CM cant tell to day BDed last night with "pre seed"! So C/P is aother way for me today to see what my body is doing!

Piffle · 23/08/2006 15:29

I used pre seed the month I conceived

Babymad4num3 · 23/08/2006 15:33

I used an ov-test this afternoon and it was so dark it was almost black! So i dont know whats going on, so C/P is just to check, and to gave myself some selfbody information!
Thanks for the pre seed info,

MrsMcJnr · 23/08/2006 15:47

Babymad - in answer to how high, difficult to say but if you struggle to reach, that's high (that said, I am retroverted so maybe that is why I find it hard to reach). I really have noticed the change from being low just after AF to now and also from being firm to soft so have a go! Forecast for BD looking good!

Angsthase · 23/08/2006 15:49

ok I'm sold. will trawl ebay and amazon to make my purchase...

Babymad4num3 · 23/08/2006 16:02

MrsMcJnr thanks, what dose the thing i'm reaching for feel like!?

mummymelling · 23/08/2006 16:11

Hi there, just signed up and this is the situation for me, newly married im 39 dh is 31, ive got 4 boys 19,17,4 and 2yrs, been trying fir 5 cycles and today ive had 2 lines in the ovulation strip test , cervix is low soft and wet , no fertile mucus as yet and its day 13 in my cycle , so, apart from lots of sex in the next 48hrs any tips??????

Babymad4num3 · 23/08/2006 16:19

I tried last night "Pre seed" which is a sperm friendly lubricant. There's one tip

First relax, when you feel for your cervix the best position I found was, squatting, it pushes the cervix to the opening of the vagina, you can also put one leg on the bathtub or sit on the toilet, a bit the same way as if you are inserting a tampon, just make sure that you use the same position everytime you check, which should be once a day roughly at the same time.

The cervix feels like a lump I suppose, more like a soft lump when it is "ripe". If you have to reach quite deep then you are probably fertile, else you would not be able to insert your finger very far.

mummymelling · 23/08/2006 16:26

Thanks for that but wont be able to get thepre-seed by tonight, had thought of trying a very sexy headstand as a grande finale!!! dh will either die laughung or have heart failure

Mum2FunkyDude · 23/08/2006 16:27

I used to prop myself up with 2 pillows, legs against the wall....make sure you pee before...iykwim.

MrsMcJnr · 23/08/2006 16:34

Babymad - been trying to think of a way to describe it but Mum2's explanation was much better. It is really the only "thing" you can feel in the passage if you like, should be soft and pillowy if you are ov or close to it. If you had your kids naturally, the opening to your cervix will always be slightly open and more of a slit than a hole.

Just done a OPK and no line though I have best CM to date and cervix is soft and high - don't get it, maybe just too early or I should have one it first thing this morning.

Mummymelling - hello! Love the sound of all your kids, I always wanted a really big family but I think I have to realistic, I am 32 now, 33 in Dec and I don't even have 1 yet! Other tips are taking Evening Primrose Oil, drinking grapefruit juice and taking cough mixture with guifinnsin in it (the only active ingerdient) up until OV. These are all meant to make your EWCM better and wetter!

mummymelling · 23/08/2006 16:34

considering my age and the fact that all the other kids were conceived 1st attemt by other ex h, how long would anyone suggest trying b4 we seek medical advice , been using ov strips and doing cx and mucus for 5 cycles now.

Piffle · 23/08/2006 16:35

FWIW I noticed the month I conceived my cervix did not change back after ovulation, normally it almost snapped back 1-2 days after...

Babymad4num3 · 23/08/2006 17:05

mummymelling LOL at your headstand I like it i should try that one lol. I've been try for 13 months and i have two boys already and doctor said to me 12 months is the right time to go and see him going for blood test's next week, but 35+ sould go after only 6 months TTC, best of luck!

MrsMcJnr and Mum2FunkyDude Thanks for the advice on the C/P. I can feel it with out my finger going in to far, i am wet but think thats due to the "pre seed" but something feel's very big?? (soz if TMI)

Anyone else had a very dark pos-OV-test like black?

Babymad4num3 · 23/08/2006 17:22

Just brought my book, thank god, off Amazon.co.uk £11.87 and with post it came to £14.62, not bad i thought! Knowing my luck (and with any luck) I'll be Pg now i've broght lol.

CHUNKYMUNKEY · 23/08/2006 19:36

Hi, i have a dd aged almost 5 and having been trying to conceive no 2 for quite a while now due to irregular cycles. Can anyone recommend a cough mixture to try. On AF at the moment but i want to get one soon for later on in the month. Thanks.

Mum2FunkyDude · 23/08/2006 19:44

ChunkyMunky
Benelyn or Robitussin are both good, I combined mine with betacarotene tablets. Don't take Vit A as it is not very good for you, with betacarotene supplements your body takes what it needs.

CHUNKYMUNKEY · 23/08/2006 21:19

Thanks Mum2FunkyDude. Is it a particular type of Benelyn (such as dry coughs, chesty coughs) or can i get any? Also when do i need to start taking it, is it around Ovulation? Logging off now but will check this thread tommorow. So thanks for your help.

MrsMcJnr · 24/08/2006 09:10

Morning ladies - I think the EPO, grapefruit juice and cough syrup have definatley helped me this month, I have EWCM for the first time today also have the most awful headache which I know won't go away with tablets and I feel sick and really tired but I know I cannot be pg - anyone else feel like this around ov? I know it must be hormonal.

Chunkymunkey - there are a few cough syrups you can take. The important thing is that they only have Guaiphenesin as the active ingredient. It is an expectorant so normally in syrups for chesty coughs. I was using Venos but have just bought Robitussin in the red box this morning (that is the one specifically mentioned in the book). You take 2tsps 3 times a day until OV.

Mum2funkydude - thanks for the betacarotene tip.

Babymad - enjoy the book. You are so positive, I have such a good feeling for you this month! My Cervix feels big at the mo too so that is probably what you are feeling as we are both on CD13 and seem to be at about the same stage in our cycles.

Mummymelling - Toni suggests getting in touch with your dr if you are not pregnant after 4 cycles of charting, that is plenty of evidence for Drs to work out why not.

That was an interesting observation Piffle - I'll look out for that. How are you feeling? are you really excited?

mummymelling · 24/08/2006 09:14

Mornin all!!!! Well just managed the bd last night and ds[age 2] strolls in and plants himself in between us for the night, just wondering if this is really such a good idea, can i cope with new baby and even more sleepless nigts, oh well never mind more bd to look foward to tonight if im lucky.P.S. didnt try the headstand as ds was in bed , lmao ,so tried the two pillows for about 10 mins instead.

mummymelling · 24/08/2006 09:17
