Allo ladies! Wondering if there are any other over 35's (apparently the age of fertility suicide, who knew?) ttc for over a year wanting to chat? If so, pour yourself some virtual wine and let the chatting commence!

Hi Sebsmummy I've had this conversation with a GP, a nurse and an acupuncturist over the last month and they all recommend every other day as this allows for sperm to build up as opposed to every day, and as sperm can live inside you for a while every other day is sufficient to ensure there's always some hanging about waiting for that egg :)

Have you had any tests done in the last year? It's worth getting a few routine ones done like the 21 day prog test, thyroid function etc.

Inshock73 · 22/04/2014 10:01

One other thing Sebsmummy my GP did say that although we're told sperm can live for several days so in theory you can conceive even if you last had sex 4/5 days before you ovulated, that's based on young men with optimum sperm, older men's sperm don't live as long so every other day is a good idea.

sebsmummy1 · 22/04/2014 10:09

Thank you Inshock, really helpful. I had a light plan to DTD every other day from around cd8 (I ovulate cd13). So say 8, 10, 12, 14. Does that sound enough?

Unfortunately my doctors are less than interested. I went to see them the month before I conceived and he laughed me out of the room when I expressed concern I might not be ovulating. I guess he was right as I then fell pregnant. I have a regular 26 day cycle with OV tracked with both opks and temp rises. I know they say it can take a few cycles after mc to get straight again but obviously feel like time is running out on me. I had a full blood test done including thyroid etc about 7 months ago and things were fine.

I am considering private tests but I'm not sure which ones!!!

mampam · 22/04/2014 10:12

Hi all Smile

I'm still here, always reading the thread but feeling a little under the weather hence no posting.

Hope you are all ok and nice to see some newbies.

Inshock73 · 22/04/2014 10:23

Based on what I've been told that would be enough sebsmummy My fertility consultant said there's some evidence to suggest you're better off dtd the day before ovulation rather than on the day itself. It's awful to read you have such an unsympathetic GP, I'm really lucky I have a female GP who's really supportive and sent me for tests straight away. Having a regular cycle is a really good thing because it does show you are ovulating.

I had a full blood test inc. thyroid and the day 21 progesterone test which shows whether you have actually ovulated that month and my DP had a sperm test done on the NHS. I then paid privately to have an egg count test done, although it only tells you what your ovarian reserve is not the quality of your eggs and as my GP pointed out to me it only takes one egg to make a baby! My 15 mins appt with a private consultant along with my egg count test cost me over £300, it's very expensive.

sebsmummy1 · 22/04/2014 10:46

I was contemplating that test Inashock but another MN member warned me off of it because her consultant said no one has that test and feels any better. Can I ask if you found your results helped you at all?

Inshock73 · 22/04/2014 10:58

My experience was mixed "sebsmummy" I wanted the test to tell me I had nothing to worry about and still had an excellent egg reserve, the same as a 25 year old, I'm 40 :) The reality was it told me my ovarian reserve is low which is 'normal' at 40 but considerably better than most women in my age range, so it was a mixed result. I guess on the plus side it told me I still have eggs! and my consultant felt it was unnecessary to rush straight in to IVF and also said they would be able to work with me, I had no idea an IVF clinic can turn you down, but on the down side it doesn't tell you how good your egg quality is and the appt/test itself is expensive. I'm on the fence as to whether I'd recommend it.

sebsmummy1 · 22/04/2014 11:27

That makes perfect sense. I would be going into it with exactly the same mindset. Hoping it would say I have marvellous egg stock for my age but suspect it will say that I have normal, ie low egg reserve and tbh that would make me feel pretty terrible as I'm already kicking myself for my life choices so far hence trying for babies so late.

I am trying to focus on my son and being very very grateful for him. If by some miracle another one comes along then fabulous but it's definitely not healthy for me to be putting so much emotion into it each month.

KEGirlOnFire · 22/04/2014 14:53

Hi all,

I've been away from MN for the Easter Weekend so sorry that I've not been around.

Ginger, sorry about the spotting hun. Sad It's rubbish when it happens.

Welcome Carrotcake!!

So I'm on CD10, DTD last night and will do it every other night until OV, so CD11, CD13 and CD15.

I THINK I've found my dress for my 40th... The same as the attached picture but in Red.

It feels lovely on. I've ordered it and it should arrive in the shop this week so I'll be going in to try it on before making a final decision.

I hope that everyone is Ok. Waves to Mampam - sorry you're feeling under the weather hun. x

mampam · 22/04/2014 19:23

KEGirl that dress is absolutely stunning, very Envy

Inshock73 · 22/04/2014 19:39

Hope you feel better soon Mampam am I right in thinking your preggers?

KE Girl that dress is stunning!

How are you doing Ginger?

I'm 11dpo and this month I haven't yet succumbed to what seems to have become my routine pre AF migraine...feeling sick on and off today (could be the easter eggs!) and had stomach ache for the last few days. I'm not holding out much hope as I've completely fallen off my healthy regime this month.

Anyone else on crotch watch?

stubbornstains · 22/04/2014 21:07

Hello folks.

Well....not much to report, except that I have constantly been feeling sick, with tender boobs. This is both before and after my completely normal AF 16 days ago. So much so that I actually did a pregnancy test on Saturday- but BFN. So....my bloody body's playing tricks on me, which is v. annoying.

I went to the doctor's and started the ball rolling re: fertility tests. I've got my 21 day test (19 day in my case) on Friday....DP should have registered with a GP (slacker) and requested a sperm test but hasn't so far Hmm- I feel I must kick some arse....

Tranquilitybaby · 22/04/2014 22:19

kegirl OMG love the dress!!!

stubborn good luck with the tests, it's good that the wheels are turning x

Tranquilitybaby · 22/04/2014 22:20

I'm on cd11 and TMI but when wiping after a wee, I has EWCM that was blood tinged. Any ideas? X

spinningirl10 · 23/04/2014 07:39

Wow KeGirl I love that dress, you're going to look stunning!!

Thanks for the advice on vitamins, I'll get some evening primrose and is it right that I should only take these up till ov?

I'm 4/5dpo and had a funny tummy yesterday, I had this when got my bfp before so if I'd been a week further along I would have seen it as a symptom but as it's so early it was probably just a bug!!

KEGirlOnFire · 23/04/2014 09:24

Mampam, are you feeling any better?

Inshock, oooh sounds promising hun!! FX for you!!! Smile

Stubborn, LOL you sound like me. I did a PG test aswell yesterday because I've had horrendous headaches and nausea this week and I'm only CD10. But BFN for me aswell. I swear our bodies only do this when we're TTC!

Tranquility, are you nearing OV time? Can't remember when you normally OV, but it can cause slight spotting. Either that or maybe too much DTD? If you look up mid-cycle bleeding it will say that after AF, you can bleed around OV time or at around 10DPO during implantation... So looking at the fact that you're only CD11, I would think you were OVing... have you done an OV test?

Spinning, if you know exactly when you OVd, then unfortunately I would say that 4/5 DPO is definitely too soon to get any symptoms as implantation doesn't take place until 6-10DPO.

Actually, I was thinking about this... If for some reason the egg doesn't implant until day 10, is that why some people would get a BFP later than others? Because if someone implants on day 6 and another on day 10, that's 4 days head start that the hormones have got to get into the urine, compared to the one who implanted later???

It makes sense in my head... I think... LOL

Big waves to everyone!! Smile

Tranquilitybaby · 23/04/2014 17:28

I did have one OV test left and peed on it today, strong positive. I still have pink/red stained ewcm on and off though and left suded cramps, does anyone else get this?

Feel v uncomfortable and not up for DTD at all :(

X

Tranquilitybaby · 23/04/2014 17:29

*sided

Tranquilitybaby · 23/04/2014 17:31

Just a bit unnerving as I haven't been on the pill or anything for years and this is new to me. X

Inshock73 · 23/04/2014 18:47

Tranquility I used to get a smidge of blood around the time of OV each month, same time as cramping or sharp pains. GP said it was a sign of OV, maybe you're releasing more than one egg this month hence the blood and the positive opk?!

Inshock73 · 23/04/2014 18:55

KEGirl I now have sore boobs, feel sick and have headache...either AF is going to hit me hard this month or...I'm not thinking about it!

Stubborn I'm hoping your BFN was wrong and you're going to get a delayed BPF. My DP is really annoying me at the moment, I've asked him to give up caffeine, he has 2 coffees a day and alcohol, he has less than 10 units a week, but it all seems too much trouble. Men they just don't get it! Let us know how you get on with your 21 day test.

Spinning That queasy stomach thing is such a tease I often get it before AF but it was also my first preg sign last year so always gets my hopes up.

KEGirlOnFire · 23/04/2014 19:15

I think Inshock might be right Tranquility and it's a month for double-egg release!!! Grin If it doesn't improve though, you'd better get to the GP.

Just out of interest, have to taken a PG test? The only reason I'm saying that is that when I had the last MC (two years ago in July), I had a completely normal period and THEN got a BFP a few days after it had finished. They then thought that it might have been an ectopic PG but it turned out that it was just a normal MC. Still don't know why I had a normal AF though. Because remember that you if you're PG you will get a +ive OPK aswell. Might be worth doing one just in case...

The worst thing Inshock is that every month I get an obvious PG symptom, something different to normal and I still get AF right on time. Got everything crossed that it's your month though!! Smile

Tranquilitybaby · 23/04/2014 20:56

Double egg release? Would that mean twins?? Eek!

kegirl I doubt it very much as I got a BFN on CD26 and AF started cd27 which was a normal period with cramps etc

inshock it sounds v promising for you, here's hoping! X

Gingerbreadlady1 · 23/04/2014 22:18
