Hi M33r. Lovely positive and inspirational post and please allow me to apologise if any thing that I said caused you upset as it was not my intent at all. All I meant was I can understand envy. As you say though it doesn't matter how many B.F.P's there are it wont influence whether or not you/I or anyone else gets a B.F.P or not. xx

VJ

When I was predicting my ovulation date it was a complete stab in the dark as it was my first month without contraception and had never really paid much attention to my previous cycles. I had a vague idea of hoe long they were but didn't even know what EWCM was, let alone know it was something that occurred around ovulation and was something to observe for. I was told on MN that as a general guide women ovulate 14 days before the date they expect their next period, so I just based my guess on this. I was kind of expecting my period on the 22nd June so estimated ovulation would be on the 8th of June (which happened to be a Monday) and we planned sex around that date.

I have had 5 scans so far at 3 different hospital and each one dated the pregnancy the same and said that conception occurred around the 3rd/4th of June. I discussed briefly with them about my cycle and they said that there were various reasons why I may have ovulated earlier than predicted or I might be a woman who naturally has longer luteal phases. Prior to starting conception (about 3 years ago) my periods were always on a cycle of 35/36 days which I guess is pretty long.

I'm just glad me and hubby had that 'just for fun shah' at the very start of the month otherwise I probably wouldn't have fell pregnant - and then I would probably have continued to miscalculate my ovulation dates in future months too.

Ok. You asked for it. So this is long. But hopefully the details will help someone. If not, feel free to ignore this post (and sorry for the spam!)

So it's cycle 4. DH and I work long hours often away from home. This meant dtd regularly was very difficult for us. Im a bit obsessive about things, so started temping just a week after we decided to ttc. I used fertility friend website. Their initial lessons are really informative, and I started to track everything.

Cycle 1 39 days, not 100% when I ovulated but think we missed fertile window
Cycle 2 30 days, ovulated day 17, lp 13 days, think we missed fertile window
Cycle 3, 35 days, ovulated day 21, lp 14 days, dtd 8,11,13,15,19
Cycle 4, 33 days? Ovulated day 19, BFP (dodgy IC) dpo15, CB digi dpo 16, dtd 6,11,15,19,24

Although some months I thought we had missed the fertile window, I still religiously tracked my symptoms so I could work out what was "normal" for me. I have since learnt nothing is "normal" or consistent for me!

I decided to use opks in cycle 2. I used CB advanced digis. I used IC opks as well in cycle 3 and 4. But only once per day, with FMU.

First cycle using them: cd11 - low, cd 12/13 - high, cd14/15 - peak. Bbt raised two days later on cd17.

2nd cycle using them : cd9-12 - low CB and -ve IC, cd13-19 - high CB and -ve IC, cd20/21 - CB peak and +ve IC. Bbt raised on second day cd21. cd 22-25 - -ve IC.

3rd cycle using them: cd8-12 low CB and -ve IC. Cd13/15 cd peak but -ve OPK. . Cd15/16 -ve IC. No temp rise so decided to reuse cb digis. Cd17/18 - low CB and -ve IC. Cd19/20 - high CB but -ve IC, cd21/22 peak CB but -ve IC. Temp rise was cd19(same day as first high reading). Very odd.
I did think ff was wrong about my ov date and presumed for awhile I actually ovulated around cd24.

Symptoms (those that stand out this month as being different for me):
Dpo 2 lots of CM. bit like EWCM but way more than I have seen since starting to ttc.
Dpo 5 really bad stomach cramps. Sharp pains in left hand side. I thought these might be ovulation pains and my ov date was potentially wrong.
Dpo 6 really stiff neck and shoulder blades. Crunchy pain, as if I had slept in a draft but hadn't. I felt freezing. Hands like ice. Head felt really hot. Like I was going to come down with a flu.
Dpo 7 burning throat, feverish head only, needed to wee 4times in 3 hours, boobs inflated
Dpo 8 DH said I was boiling to touch. Had to push him away when he hugged me as shooting pains were felt through my boobs. 2 separate big "globs" of CM. about the size of 50p piece. Yellowy.
Dpo 9 blue veins appeared on boobs at night time. Small scratch on face won't stop bleeding.
Dpo 10 feverish head. Sore throat. Really really itchy left leg??! (Told you I logged everything! Smile) nauseous and tired
Dpo 11 really really smelly wee! Horrendous! BFP dream. Blue veins on boobs, nauseous and tired
Dpo 12 burping when I woke. Really tired in afternoon and early evening. Really cloudy wee. Loss of appetite. Feeling Constipated (or going every hour), nauseous and tired
Dpo 13 burping when wake. Burping mid afternoon. Boobs feel tight around nipples (like they've been pumped up and need to be released). Really tired early afternoon. Dizziness. Slight ringing in ears. Loss of appetite. Stuffy nose. Feeling Constipated (or going every hour)
Dpo 14 snotty nose. Wee still really really smelly. Endless hunger. Really really sore nipples. Headache. Pain above groin when I standup after sitting. BFP dream. Feeling Constipated (or going every hour)

I had a lot of backache and headaches throughout. I was also really irrational and grumpy. I would do things and then laugh at myself for being so grumpy! Very odd mood swings! I also had a really calm confidence I was pregnant from about dpo5-dpo12 (I lost this towards the end as the panic set in!)

I took, pregnacare from the beginning.

I took 500mg Agnus Castus every day upto ov on cycle 3.

On cycle 4 I followed the vitex fertility diet. Im obviously not a doctor, so can't recommend it. I panicked at ovulation and stopped taking them all (apart from pregnacare) so not sure if it helped or not. Theres a few versions. I took:
1 Prenatal Vitamin Daily
1 Baby Aspirin Daily
1 50 mg B6 Vitamin in the morning.
1 B-50 Complex in the evening
Two Vitex, 500mg Capsules in the morning
Two Vitex, 500mg Capsules in the evening

If ttc again, I think I would try it again though. Though I would say its a high risk strategy with a high potential to mess with cycles. I think this might have caused my double peak on CB opks this month. I also had really bad ov pains which I guess might be linked. Not sure.

What I have learnt:

  • don't rely on opks of any brand. They might be useful and might be working but don't rely on them.
  • temping is the most informative thing you can do (though I appreciate this doesn't suit everyone)
  • early hpt testing really doesn't work for everyone
  • keep faith in your gut instinct!

FX the luckiest on this bus continues and results in a lot more BFPs. (And selfishly FX my bean is sticky!)

And i don't have any tests....

I came off the pill at the very end of December last year. I had been on it for 10 years....

For the first few months of the year we were kind of trying but I wasn't using OPKs or anything like that and my cycles were a bit unpredictable at first so, looking back, we weren't even really dtd at the right time of the month!

My first cycle was 30 days, then 29, then 31.... Then 35.... Then 48...!
So it was a bit weird and I was really worried that my cycles were just never going to settle Hmm

Started using clearblue digital OPKs and got my bfp on the 4th month of using them - September!

  • First month I got a positive on cd20
  • 2nd month cd20
  • 3rd month cd21
  • 4th month cd20

By the 4th month I was already anticipating getting a positive OPK around cd20-21so we dtd on cd18, didn't actually dtd on cd19 (can't remember why but I remember I was annoyed that we didn't dtd!) and then in the morning of cd20 I got a positive and we dtd that evening....

The next day my DH was going away for a work conference and woke up at 4am to leave the house at 5am and wasn't back til the following night!
I was gutted that we didn't dtd on cd21 as it was the day after my 1st positive (and I did another OPK that morning and had another positive) but there was no chance we were going to dtd at 4am! Grin

DH got back really late on cd22 so we didn't dtd then either and by that time my CM had become very thick and white so I knew I wasn't fertile anymore!

So actually the month I conceived, we only (around the time of conception) dtd on cd18 and cd20. Positive OPK was on cd20.

All in all, it took me from January to September to conceive so 9 months. But in reality it was 4 months of using OPKs and dtd at the right time because everything prior to using OPKs was a bit of a waste of time as we were definitely not dtd at the right time of the month.

DH and I have low-ish sex drives... Sometimes high but mostly low-medium and due to me working shifts and him often working away we don't really have "regular" sex... We have days here and there where we have lots of sex then sometimes a week or so with no sex at all! Works for us but made ttc tricky..... That's why OPKs worked for us cos we could focus our efforts around when I knew I would be fertile!

About ovulation. I had a very small amount of EWCM on Friday, no bigger than a finger nail really and it was a slimy when I was wiping myself and there was some brownish/reddish in it. Was that ovulation. We made love on Friday and Sat.
I feel really daft asking but I just can not seem to get to grips at all with ovulation. I don't suppose I should get too obsessed really as we can only make love on set days anyway, also I must have ovulated last month but I don't recall getting any EWCM but I must have. Also I don't use them but about these O.P.K's if you get a positive do you have to D.T.D on that day or do you have a few days to fit it in. I am just curious really. xx

GillyBillyWilly · 20/10/2013 12:02

I'll also add that when my cycles started to regulate was also coincidentally when I started using clearblue digis and started to see a pattern of always getting a positive OPK on cd20-21.
I would also notice EWCM from about cd17 onwards so the days leading up to the positive OPK.

Even though I would get EWCM we also used conceive plus lubricant.

Oh and I took pregnacare conception from January (not that it helps you conceive but I think its worth taking!)

Earlier in the year (before starting clearblue digi OPKs) I tried temping and charting for a couple of cycles but it didn't work for me because I am a shift worker and would sometimes do nightshifts etc so I gave up temping after a couple of cycles.

I would recommend SMEP to people as well.

Dtd every other day and use OPKs daily. Once you get a positive OPK, dtd on that day and for 2-3 consecutive days after.

Basically keep a regular flow of sperm inside you and once you get a positive OPK, double your efforts! GrinGrin

It really helps to KNOW your cycles though.
By my 4th month of using OPKs, I was noticing EWCM from about cd16-17 onwards and I was anticipating a positive OPK on cd20-21 and it came on cd20.

My luteal phase was always 14 days as well.

life when you get a pos opk, you should dtd that day, the day after, miss a day then once more. I dtd the day of pos opk and then the three consecutive days. It also helps to dtd the few days before if you know when ov is but DH and I don't tend to - it's a lot of dtd-ing and we prefer to keep for the pos opks.

You may also be interested to know that if you want a girl you're best to dtd before ov. Personally this isn't my cup of tea but there's a school of thought ...

Ok need some advice ladies, as strange things are happening! Grin think I'm still on the bus but only just!

So AF isn't due till 28th from my cycle and symptoms think ov happened 16th and we had dtd a few time upto the day before, so all looking good! Until last night had a fair amount of dark brown bleed, but then today nothing? I thought perhaps AF had come early but normally its very regular and doesn't stop like this?! So do i sit it out until 28th to test or not? Quite excited and a little nervous here, any advice appreciated!

Bleeding could be implantation bleeding but that's unlikely if you only ovulated 4 days ago. Is there any chance you ovulated earlier??

Report
lifehasafunnywayofhelpinguout · 20/10/2013 12:21

I think it must be different for everyone, Writer. Has it been proved though 100% that you're having a boy because it's not unheard of for scans to be wrong. It's rare but it does happen. If I am lucky enough to fall pregnant again I'm not sure if I'd want to find out. I mean it's good in the way that you can prepare but like I say I'd be scared of them getting it wrong and also I never found out with D.D and the suspense was really exiting. xx

We weren't planning on finding out but because of my health I've got to have a scan every 4 weeks so we kind of figured that at some point we were either going to see what sex it was for ourselves or that a sonographer would refer to the baby as a he or she Smile Based on that we decided to just ask and now that I know I'm even more excited!!!!
