Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Taydex I have not done the intra-muscular injection yet - I realised last night I was not sure of the dose so rang the clinic who have confirmed it is just one ampoule. I am going to do it this evening yes I know I am a chicken but there it is!

I want to do it by myself (and my poor mum has offered but I know it would be really hard for her). I have studied a couple of youtube videos and think I can do this!!!

I am feeling a bit odd - could be the food I guzzled last night or could be after effects of egg collection - I feel bloated and with indigestion like pains... still have hot water bottle applied.

I should hear from clinic later today. I am very sorry to hear about your friend. They monitor them and then decide when best to complete the transfer. My view currently is that even if two are viable then only to transfer one and freeze the other - but I will need to speak with clinic about this when/if the time comes.

Kwick709 · 05/03/2016 14:07

I thought you might like to know that the clinic called to say that one egg has fertilised and is under observation, the other is still in with magic potion and could still fertilise. Likely embryo transfer will be Monday - which means I can rest up before my trip to Paris on Wednesday pm.
I am very excited and happy!!!

INeedNewShoes · 05/03/2016 14:36

Oh Kwick this is wonderful news!

I am so pleased for you. And great that the timing is convenient around your Paris trip.

Woohoo!

Every little step forward for one of us on here feels like a victory for the group :)

taydex · 05/03/2016 16:25

Yay! That's excellent news Kwik! Go your eggs!!! I'm so happy and excited for you. Smile xx

pickle162 · 05/03/2016 18:51

Eeek how exciting! Go little eggs!!! Fab news, from what I remember at one of the seminars they tend to only try and implant one egg at a time nowadays to reduce the chances of multiple births

I'm only that's taydex, throat still bit swollen internally but getting better.not crying so much either which also positive but been having a nice distracting day in London with a friend.

Shoes what's happening with u?is it time to rebook Copenhagen flight?
Boo-sorry to hear you've been poorly

Caution-hope u get ur scan organised soon

X

Kwick709 · 05/03/2016 19:46

pickle sorry to hear you are still not 100%... but you seem to be in better spirits which is good.

So I manned up and did the intra-muscular injection in my bum... maybe I did it wrong but not uncomfortable at all - lots of blood after though.

pickle as I am over 40 I think I can have 2 put back in but that is not my wish - one at a time seems more sensible.

CautionHormone · 05/03/2016 20:57

Kwick - I am SO happy that one of your eggs has fertilised!! That's amazing news and such a positive first step! What will you do with the second if it fertilises? Will you freeze it in case (God forbid) this cycle doesn't work? Glad the intramuscular injection wasn't too much of a pain in the ass pun intended Wink.

Taydex, I'm definitely going to give it until Thursday this coming week and then I'll ring again. I did think about going back to say the pain is worse - but then if they find nothing they'll probably know I've been lying Hmm. The pain is definitely still there, it's just bugging me because I don't know what it is!! I even bought ovulation tests to see whether it was ovulation that was causing the pain but they're all really negative so it's not that...

Shoes, im glad your getting somewhere with your ovulation, even if the OPK's are still negative... hopefully they'll become positive and you'll be able to get on a flight to Copenhagen! Have you booked your flights yet?

So.. I was at my Nan's today with Mum & my brother, and me, Mum & Nan ended up booking a holiday! Very spur of the moment but I'm quite looking forward to it - it's end of August :) I'm going with Mum, Dad, my brother & his girlfriend & my Nan and Grandad - we always have a good crack when we're away together. Only problem is, is some of the money I've saved up for IUI's will have to be used! Ah well, a week away is worth it... Right?? Just have to save harder!

Kwick709 · 06/03/2016 09:51

Oooh where are you going caution? My mum and I have decided to throw caution to the wind (ooh look how I got your name in there!) and go away for two weeks somewhere hot at the end of July - we both need something to look forward to and if I am lucky to be preggers I will still be able to travel then. We are deciding between Sicily, Crete or Rhodes at the mo.

CautionHormone · 06/03/2016 14:02

We're going to Murcia in Spain Kwick :)

My Nan & Grandad went there last year and thoroughly enjoyed it, so want to take us there this year. We managed to get a decent priced apartment that'll hold all of us - it's just the flights, they're so expensive!

I've been to Sicily, but only on a cruise so I didn't see all of it, but what I did see was lovely. I like your choices - they're all meant to be nice!

Ps, love how you managed to get my name in there ;)

Kwick709 · 06/03/2016 17:12

Oooh I love Murcia :) There is a coastal area called "El Mar Menor" (the little sea) which is lovely! Also the best veg & fruit comes from Murcia :)

My mum and I took another look at both Crete and Sicily... I am not sure on either to be honest - but maybe I am just not looking in the right place. I normally go away on Yoga Holidays so I am not sure where I should be looking for a package holiday (Thomas Cook, Thompson, TravelSupermarket???).

BTW the clinic called again this morning - egg doing well, has started to divide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They asked me if I wanted to do assisted hatching (where they help implantation by making a hole in the outside of the embryo call the pellucida) - I said yes! Likely transfer will be tomorrow afternoon!!!

INeedNewShoes · 06/03/2016 19:18

OPK smiley face!!

Kwick709 · 06/03/2016 19:39

woohoo!!! So are you off to Copenhagen tomorrow then shoes? Best of luck!!! we can be 2ww buddies!!!

INeedNewShoes · 06/03/2016 19:46

Sorry, I was a bit over-excited to see the smiley face!

Yes, I've just booked flights going out tomorrow and coming back Tuesday morning. I'm going to hold my nerve and book a hotel room tomorrow as I hope the prices will come down.

Kwick oh my goodness we will be tww buddies :)

I hope your transfer does go ahead tomorrow as planned. Really good news on your egg progress :)

pickle162 · 06/03/2016 19:53

I'm so happy for you kwick and shoes so excited. Let us know how it goes tomorrow you two!!

I love Crete near spinalonga/elounda area, visit to spinalonga is well worth it-where the book "the island" is based on-all about the leper colony.just amazing (very sad) but such an amazing place

Kwick709 · 06/03/2016 20:04

Best of luck for tomorrow shoes

pickle we are still undecided - my mum does not handle the heat that well... is there sufficient site seeing in Crete? Or will it be too hot to be walking around late July/early August?

pickle162 · 06/03/2016 20:46

There is loads of sight seeing around there, ancient ruins etc however generally is very hot that time of year-usually 30+ and have been there end of July when was 40+ in a heat way so may not be ideal if don't really like the heat :/

CautionHormone · 06/03/2016 23:10

OMG kwick & shoes! What amazing news to get on a dull Sunday night!!

That's fantastic kwick! It all sounds very positive, at least you've only had to wait a weekend to wait!! Good idea with assisted hatching, I'd never heard of that before! I'm so excited for you, soon you'll be in your 2ww! Do they do embryo transfer under heavy sedation/GA?

Shoes, again, what brilliant news!! I bet you were so excited to finally see a smiley face! I'm excited for you! Have a safe flight, update us when you can :)

Kwick have you been to Murcia? I'm so looking forward to it. Maybe do a package holiday through a travel agents because it saves doing it all yourself! Sometimes it's a right pain in the ass to do it yourself!

Cloudburn · 07/03/2016 00:56

Hey everyone, mumsnet newbie. I'm a 37 (hopeful) single mum by choice (we need a better name...) and just had my first medicated IUI insemination using donor sperm at London Womans Clinic last week. I live alone and my family live on the other side of the planet so I'm doing this on my own and have to say the whole process has been more emotionally difficult than I expected - though I suspect being drugged up to the eyeballs on hormones never helped anyone!

Anyway I hope you don't mind if I jump into this thread as it'd be nice to have other women who are going through the same type of thing to talk this through with. It's a little lonely over here (again with the hormones talking)!

INeedNewShoes · 07/03/2016 07:22

Welcome to the thread Cloud

So you're in your two week wait. Fingers crossed for you!

We're all at different stages in the process, some planning ahead for IUI in future, some in the midst of the process, and some who've managed to get a BFP. If you haven't already, it's worth reading the whole thread as there's some really useful info.

I'm traveling to Copenhagen for IUI, with today being IUI attempt 2.

Kwick709 · 07/03/2016 08:15

Welcome cloud lovely to have you join us!

I did 5 failed IUIs and am now on my first IVF cycle - waiting to hear if embryo transfer is today!!!

caution transfer is like IUI - they pop a speculum in then an catheter then inject up the embryo - no need for any pain relief (I hope).

shoes hope all goes well today and remember to keep your feet warm whilst on 2ww!!!

Kwick709 · 07/03/2016 08:19

caution I have been to Murcia - long time ago. I used to live on east coast of Spain and have done many road trips in that direction.

CautionHormone · 07/03/2016 10:49

Good morning ladies :)

Cloud, nice to have you join us. As Shoes said, were all at different stages. I'm currently saving, hoping to begin the process at the end of the year :) good luck with your two week wait, we'll be here. When did you have the IUI done?

Shoes good luck for today!! Will be thinking of you. Remember to update us when you can Wink.

Kwick - I didn't realise it was like IUI! Although, thinking about it now, what else could it be like, really? Hmm. Have you heard whether embryo transfer is going ahead today???

Ah I bet it was lovely living in Spain! I can't wait to go, just a bit hesitant on dipping into my IUI fund - I'd rather not, but we all need a holiday... Right? Blush

Taydex I hope everything's ok your end - we haven't heard from you for a while! X

taydex · 07/03/2016 10:50

Hello ladies,

Gosh you've all been busy!

Kwik - Yay for getting that injection done. That must have been fun! I agree, I'd go for just one. You can always save that second one for another cycle - do you know if it fertilised yet? I love how you're looking at holidays. I've not been to the places you mention, but we did do Sardinia recently and that was lovely. We actually booked that one when we were looking at Sicily, but Sicily is still on our list. We're currently trying to work out when's best for us to travel in the next few months, so hopefully will get something booked up soon. I can't wait. I love a holiday! We don't normally do package holidays so not sure I can help there. We normally just book it all ourselves so we have more flexibility/options. Sure that'll change though if/when sprogs are involved! Great news on the egg(s). Assisted hatching sounds like a great plan - I wasn't even aware that was a thing but from what you say it sounds good. Best of luck, fingers crossed for you. Do you have a time for the transfer now? Sounds like transfer is pretty similar to IUI procedure (in terms of what your body has to go through). That's not too bad. Have fun with that speculum! Wink

Caution - Any news re scan yet? Gosh, I'm getting impatient for you, and it's not even my scan! Great news re the holiday. It's hard, but you've got to still live while all of this is going on. Sounds like a lovely place. Nice to have something to look forward to.

Shoes - Awesome news re the smiley face. I am so so happy for you! Good luck in Copenhagen. I have my fingers crossed for you. Happy to provide distraction through the long 2WW.

Cloud - Welcome to the thread. Good to see you. Gosh, we have another one on the dreaded 2WW then. Hopefully it goes quickly for you. I have a lot of practice of those, so let me know if anything I can do to help. There's a good group of ladies on this thread, many of whom are going it alone so hopefully we can provide you with lots of support. I've done 4 cycles of medicated IUI and 1 cycle of non-medicated. The last cycle (non-medicated) has resulted in a +ve pregnancy test result (well, actually, about 10 of them as I couldn't help myself from testing repeatedly! LOL). Currently I am 6 weeks pregnant (still feels really weird to say and I can't quite believe it). Having a scan at the clinic on Friday this week (which will be 7 weeks). I read that if they find a heartbeat and it's implanted in a good location then risk of miscarriage falls to about 2-3%. So I'm basically holding on till then before I get too excited. Who am I kidding, I am very excited, but also quite nervous. Oh, and I am married to a woman, which is why we had to to IUI. So yeah, I guess I have quite a bit of experience now at IUI. Ask as many questions as you like. Oh, and no question is silly. We don't judge on here. What date is the end of your 2WW?

Kwik, Shoes, Cloud - Don't forget to keep those feet warm and keep drinking milk/eating eggs/pineapple with the core for the first 5 days/baby aspirin. Take it easy and relax a little if you can. Best of luck for you all on your procedures / 2WWs.

TD x

INeedNewShoes · 07/03/2016 11:08

Thanks for the support! I've got my appointment at 4pm (LH surge was at 7pm yesterday so timing is exactly the same as the previous cycle which I'm pleased about as I did get that BFP for a couple of days before I lost it).

Keeping ones feet warm and being in Copenhagen don't really tally. The cold here seems to be on another level to the UK even if the temperature is the same. I think it's cos there's always mist in the air so it gets right to your bones.

I promise to do my best though. Do you think three pairs of socks is enough? Grin

Happy transfer day Kwick I hope everything goes to plan. Smile

taydex · 07/03/2016 11:33

I'd go with 4 pairs Shoes - Just to be one the safe side. At least you'll be back in Blighty soon and able to just sit there with massive feet cos of all the socks... Smile Good luck this afternoon!
