Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Kwik - No, I've not tried goats milk. Is it nice? I know I like goats cheese so that sounds promising... Would probably rather the Guinness though...

taydex · 29/02/2016 20:50

I'm feeling fine thanks Caution. No real symptoms apart from slightly tender bobs when I take my bra off before bed -who am I kidding before bed and not as soon as I get in from work!- And occasionally feeling really hungry and rumbly tummy when I wake up. But not sick or anything.

taydex · 29/02/2016 20:52

boobs! Bl*dy autocorrect trying to stop me using rude words!

INeedNewShoes · 29/02/2016 21:31

I'm either on CD 13/14 (not sure which to count it as, as my period started in the middle of the night), but last month in a similar situation I had my LH surge on the evening of CD 13. Every month I've tracked I've had my LH surge on 13 or early on 14 so I seem to be a few hours later this month. There's definitely still time yet, it's just the OPKs have had a nearly positive line for a few days which is freaking me out! My hormones are perhaps skewy after the chemical pregnancy.

Taydex I recommend making cauliflower cheese or macaroni cheese using goats milk to make the cheese sauce. It's delicious like that!

I've had to train myself to like milk as I was dairy free until I was 9 years' old and it took years to get used to the taste of dairy. I still couldn't drink a glass of milk on its own but I like milky coffee/hot chocolate etc.

I've had an uber classy hotel picnic in my room this evening. Looking forward to another LH test shortly.

Caution you may have an opportunity with your scan. If they do any sort of ultrasound that looks at your reproductive bits ask lots of questions about what they can see and ask for a copy of the report. You might save yourself some money on the required tests your fertility clinic might ask for if you've got a report which comments on the status of your ovaries etc.

Kwick709 · 29/02/2016 21:45

Caution at this stage of IVF they scan you ever two days or so to check the growth of the follicles. It is a pelvic scan using a vibrator type wand thing. I used to find them quite uncomfortable but I have had so many of them now I really do not mind anymore.

For your own peace of mind maybe go private if the scan wait list is too long? I do not want to send alarm bells ringing - and it was an awfully long time ago - but when I was 19 I had an ovarian cyst and because I had to wait so long for the scan it was too late to save the ovary when they finally operated. Medicine has moved on tremendously since then but the sooner you can see what is going on the sooner you can do something about it.

Shoes I love the sound of your picnic and it is good to hear you are in good spirits. Best of luck with your next test. Your macaroni cheese recipe sounds lovely!

I like goats milk but it is quite well... goaty... I adore the St Helens Farm goats milk yoghurt - it is so smooth and white!! Yummy with agave syrup :)

pickle162 · 29/02/2016 21:51

taydex · 29/02/2016 22:35

Mmm, I could probably live off macaroni cheese or cauliflower cheese. Will definitely be giving that a go. Thanks for the tip.

Love the sound of a hotel picnic! Uber classy! Smile

Kwick709 · 01/03/2016 08:08

Any news shoes?

INeedNewShoes · 01/03/2016 08:54

Grin you're a poet and you don't know it!

No LH surge. I'm feeling strangely relaxed about this whole thing now. I'm starting to suspect I either missed the surge or won't get it for some reason this month. I'll keep testing though!

I'm having quite a nice time. I tend to get quite anxious about wasting money so I'm having to manage my attitude to this somewhat, but my hotel is nice and Copenhagen is nice and it's not raining for a change (my previous two visits the weather was appalling) so I've amended my outlook to being 'I'm enjoying a city break. If I happen to have IUI while I'm here then good, but if I don't I've spent £200 on flights and hotels for a three-day break and that's not bad at all'.

I'm going to go and be a tourist this morning and come back at midday to test again. Then this afternoon I might do a canal boat trip.

taydex · 01/03/2016 09:33

Sounds like you've got your head round things quite nicely Shoes. I love Copenhagen. Make the most of your time there. X

INeedNewShoes · 01/03/2016 11:40

So close, but apparently not quite good enough. The back-up ClearBlue did not produce a smiley face.

Donor IUI?
taydex · 01/03/2016 12:05

Ah, so close Shoes! I always found the OneSteps so hard to read. I am pretty sure I missed at least 1 ovulation using them Sad Probably doesn't help that my clinic didn't really explain how strong the second line had to be (and that they had me testing with just 2nd wee of the day).

Fingers crossed you're still on your way to getting a positive result with them and have not missed this cycle. Try to stay positive sweetie x

pickle162 · 01/03/2016 12:40

I've just been kicked in the throat by a dementia patient :( just waiting in a&e
Perks of working for NHS eh?!!!

taydex · 01/03/2016 12:58

Oh no Pickle! You poor thing. Are you OK? Sending big hugs. Ooh, and some Flowers

pickle162 · 01/03/2016 13:27

Thank u xx just waiting in minor injuries to be seen, taken nearly an hr just to see triage :( just bit of a dodgy place to be kicked, feels horrid. Would rather be back at work!!!

taydex · 01/03/2016 14:52

I have discovered a new favourite thing. Milkybar hot chocolate. Yum! Great way to get more milk in.

Donor IUI?
INeedNewShoes · 01/03/2016 19:12

That looks really good!

I hope you've been seen and reassured Pickle . Horrible thing to happen. I know that would leave me shaken.

Still no positive OPK. Had to seek out a pharmacy selling the ClearBlues (made me realise how I take for granted there being a well stocked Boots on every shopping street in the UK!). £30 for a pack of 10. Lesson learned!

Have to say this cycle seems doomed at this point. Last three months everything has been so regular. Bloody typical that it would be the month I booked flights/hotel in advance that it would go awry!

It's all a learning curve! My advice to anyone thinking of going abroad for IUI: Don't book travel in advance. The saving will be irrelevant if your cycle plays up!

CautionHormone · 01/03/2016 20:42

taydex, I'm glad you're feeling okay. At least you're not bugged down with sickness - it could be a lot worse! How many weeks gone are you exactly? Ha - the whole 'bobs' situation made me smile! Grin your hot chocolate looks amazing!

pickle are you ok?! Being kicked in the throat sounds so painful :(

kwick - I get it now! Let us know how your follicles are doing tomorrow. Sounds like they're coming along nicely though. Are you keeping up your "I am" mantra?!
In regards to the scan - I think I may book a private one if they tell me they can't booked me in for a while. I did think myself whether it could be a cyst - I keep getting pains in the lower right hand side, a lot more in tune with it since yesterday because I'm keeping my eye out for it. So far I've had the pain four times today, but it only lasts for a minute or two and subsides. Strange, hey?!

newshoes I'm so gutted you haven't had your LH surge yet. What a pain in the ass!! Maybe you're going to ovulate later this month because of the chemical pregnancy?

Xx

CautionHormone · 01/03/2016 20:43

Oh & kwick - may I be rude enough to ask what your symptoms were with your ovarian cyst?! X

Kwick709 · 01/03/2016 20:48

shoes really like your attitude :) I am sorry that your lh surge has not come... are you going to hang around tomorrow too? Do they charge you for the cancelled cycle? My clinic does - just curious - this is not about the money :)

pickle what an awful thing to happen... hope you have been sorted and no damage has been done.

I just had a lovely dinner out with a close friend from work - he is all about the positive mental attitude too and has been so supportive through this whole process.

Taydex that looks lethal!!! But anything to get the milk in right?

INeedNewShoes · 01/03/2016 21:30

I'll incur no clinic costs at all if I don't have IUI this month. This is one of the biggest draws of my clinic. I'm not even booked for my IUI! I just phone them when I get my LH surge and book myself in for roughly 24 hours later. I've chosen to use one of the clinic's sperm donors (they always have vials for around 12 donors on-site at the clinic) which means I'm not paying storage or shipping for the sperm either.

Quite frankly, it would tip me over the edge at the moment if I was going to have to pay this month for a treatment I probably won't have!

My flight is at 17:30 tomorrow. I think my plan is just to keep testing but if I haven't had the LH surge by the time my flight leaves I think I had better get on it a come home. I can't stay here indefinitely, and it seems to me really unlikely that I'm going to get the surge at all if I haven't by that point (3 days later than my previous three cycles). What do you think? Have any of you had big variations in ovulation days?

If I get my LH surge tomorrow I'll definitely stay in Copenhagen until Thursday. The hotel's costing me around £70 per night and the new flight will be about £30. In the context of what I'm doing another £100 will be worth it to make a go of this month.

Kwick709 · 01/03/2016 21:48

Great policy of clinic :) i have had lh fluctuations - which is most annoying! I think you plan sounds good - keep on testing until your flight. I will keep my fingers crossed for you!

booboo16 · 01/03/2016 21:53

Shoes I use the same OPK's and I usually get a positive the day after I would get an OPK like yours! I think you are still in with a good chance. I have had achemical pregnancy and it didn't affect my next cycle. Last month my ovulation was delayed by 2/3 days for no apparent reason. Keep us updated! I hope that helps x

Pickle Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! That sounds so painful... I hope you are okay now Wine Flowers

Kwick Good luck tomorrow! Fx your follicles are growing nicely x Come on little follicles! Grow, grow, grow Flowers

Taydex Yummy! Gosh, that looks delicious Grin! I couldn't even stomach looking at food when I was pregnant with my son. You are lucky that you can still enjoy food Smile. My sister had absolutely no morning sickness when she was pregnant Envy! I couldn't believe it...lucky B Grin. I am lucky that my fertility nurse is amazingly nice and kind. Saying that I will try to ensure that I get to see the same doc, that I saw the last time. Hmm

Caution Did you go to the doctor today? My sister has irregular periods, & thankfully there isn't anything wrong. The doc said it is hormones and she is awaiting the results of blood tests.

Kwick709 · 02/03/2016 08:54

Any news shoes?

NFMO (news from my ovary): 1 follie at 16mm, 1 @ 10mm, then about 4 @ 5mm - so likely only one viable egg... Which is fine - that is all I need :)

taydex · 02/03/2016 10:01

Morning ladies,

Shoes - Any news? Any sign of that elusive positive OPK? Sounds like you've got your head in a good place. My clinic is the same re charges which is good as I prematurely ovulated / they missed it for 2 cycles. I have had variations on my cycles. Some really quick and some much slower. I can dig out the info (yes, I am sad and keep track of it all, just call me a control freak!) if you like. Think it's varied by about 5 days (and by that I mean maybe 2 days earlier or 2 days later than I'd expect).

Caution - Still all feeling fine here. I did read in one of my books that generally it's 6 weeks onwards when you start feeling a bit poo. That's this Friday... Any more news from the docs?

Pickle - How are you doing? How's the throat? I hope you're feeling OK.

Kwik - Sounds like those follies are coming along quite nicely. You never know, that second one could put on a growth spurt and become a viable option too. My follies have done all sorts of stuff I've not been expecting so don't rule those little ones out just yet... That said, the 16 sounds really good. Your "I am" mantra really seems to be working.

BooBoo - When I think about it a few things are making me feel "I really don't want to eat that" or maybe "my tummy's feeling a bit odd" - but mostly I'm fine. After drinking the hot chocolate I did feel a little bit bleurgh, but I think that was just from drinking something so sweet. Ooh, I didn't know you had a son. How old is he? Is he an IUI/IVF baby?

Right, off to get a b*llocking from my boss (I think, he sent me an odd message saying we need to catch up... - maybe he's going to offer me a promotion to stay. Ha ha ha, very unlikely!).

TD x
