Donor IUI?

MinnieMooMoo · 09/10/2013 15:12

Hello! Just looking for a group/quiche to join but not really sure where I fit it.

I'm intending to go it alone and have Donor Insemination by IUI starting in January providing my investigations all come back clear.

Any one else in the same boat, or has done it alone in the past?

Caution I hope you manage to get an appointment with your GP. If they say there are no appointments it's worth requesting to speak to your GP on the phone.

I will most definitely be going back to Copenhagen when/if I get my LH surge. I'm determined to do this cycle, mostly because I just want a baby asap but also because I decided a while ago not to do an April cycle as timing would mean if I got a BFP that the due date would be in Christmas week. (I have a few friends with late December birthdays who resent their birth date).

taydex · 04/03/2016 09:27

Morning ladies,

Kwik - Best of luck with the egg collection today. A friend of mine is also having egg collection today. Must be the day for it Smile Mmmm, lamb sharwma. I am drooling just thinking about it. I'm constantly feeling hungry at the moment and eating whatever my body is telling me it fancies. Means I'm not doing as well on the eating all the things the books say I should but I figure whatever goes in and stays in is good! (nothing's come out yet...). Appointment wise, I have one with the clinic on 11 March (this is a scan any time between day 35 and 45 after turkey basting - I think to check if there's heartbeat, how many there are, and if the location is OK - i.e. not in a tube). Then GP appt on 15 March to make sure I get my name down on the list for the hospital I want and not the other one which is actually closer but I don't want to go there! (yes, I'm being high maintenance with that demand LOL). I did read in one of my books if you can get to/past 8 weeks and they've found a heartbeat then the chances of miscarriage decrease to about 1 or 2 in 100. Crossing fingers... Re your question to Shoes, we only got the choice of 2 donors (they were the 2 best matched to us by the clinic), which made it pretty easy to pick. Although either would have been fine, we found it an easy choice. If we hadn't liked either of those we could have asked for more to choose from but they would have been further away from our preferred hair/skin/eye etc colour.

Caution - Any news re appointment?

Shoes - I am sure the wait is normal, but I am just impatient! Smile Ooh, get you with your double metaphor! Ha ha ha. Any sign of that LH surge yet? I presume you'll be jetting back off to Copenhagen as soon as you get it?

Pickle, how are you doing sweet? I hope you are starting to feel some recovery now. I really feel for you. Try and keep strong sweetie pea. Oh, but don't worry about crying at work. It's totally understood.

Ooh, bras! I'd not really thought too much about that but should probably. In my head Kwik, I also thought it was supposed to be no to underwire. But I've not read that in any of the books yet so I'm sticking with mine (I don't think I currently own any that don't have underwire)! I guess at some point I probably should go buy some. The only thing the book I checked this morning said was make sure you buy them in the correct size as you grow and don't try to scrimp on this as it will help to prevent sagging. So I'm in! he he he. I'm still trying to work out if mine have changed at all. They do feel a bit different when I take off my bra (maybe a little tingly, like pre-AF would be, I wouldn't go as far as to say sore), but only very briefly. That said I am verging on having 2nd boob syndrome with this bra I have on today - must be slightly smaller than those I've been wearing for the rest of the week so maybe I should go see if the next cup size up is required... Kwik - the white deodorant marks, I get those too (although mostly on t-shirts and not bras). I looked up online a while ago and saw suggested baby wipes to wipe it off, which seems to help a bit. I also saw white vinegar and bio washing powder soak over night but I'm convinced I'd smell like a chip shop after that so I've not given it a go!). I also use a Nivea "invisible" roll on deodorant (they do it in 2 flavours) which seems to have helped a lot. I think it says no more white marks or something on the bottle.

Right, I think I'll go phone my GP now, see if I can get my appointment bumped to a little earlier. Yes, I'm impatient. Wink

INeedNewShoes · 04/03/2016 11:24

Ooh Kwick just realised it's egg collection day for you! Best of luck.

CautionHormone · 04/03/2016 13:23

Taydex & Shoes - I managed to get a Dr's appointment for 3:30pm. Just to find out what the next steps are really because it could be months before I get a scan date. They may be able to refer me for private, without me having to pay - but if not, I think I'll just pay privately anyway!

Taydex - did you manage to bump up your GP appointment??

Shoes - good for you for going back to Copenhagen. I don't blame you! Yeah, a December birthday can be a bit of a ballache I suppose... Keep us informed about your LH surge :)

Kwick I've got everything crossed for you!!! Will be thinking of you! X

Kwick709 · 04/03/2016 15:10

Thank you my lovelies for warm wishes.

I am back home now after egg collection - they got two eggs in the end which I am pleased by - I had my prepared myself for nada/zilcho so this is good. Now I just hope my magic potion, well, works its magic - will know more tomorrow.

From tomorrow have to start with intramuscular injections... not looking forward to this at all!!!

I had a bit of a wobble in clinic before the procedure - not sure what came over me but had a little cry and pulled myself together.

So I decided to chuck out culprit deoderant this morning and used one of my multiple stock piled ones - only to look at the ingredients when I got back from clinic and saw it has the nasty cyclo ingredient in it (that is said to impact fertility) - so will have to change again Envy

For white marks I will try biotex and vinegar but first am going to try the spray on stain remover I have - not sure why I did not think of this before!

Caution I definitely think you should go private if this will speed things up - peace of mind is priceless.

Taydex I think you should be demanding! I too have thoughts on mat unit I would like - hence why I am holding off moving GPs as I think the one I have now would mean either UCH (want) or Whittington (do not want).

Have you bought any maternity clothes yet? Have you seen the starter packs on Seraphine I may have been eyeing up for months

INeedNewShoes · 04/03/2016 15:27

Well done Kwick

Two eggs! Smile That's really exciting!

It's a huge thing we're doing. It's ok to be overwhelmed from time to time (indeed it would be worrying if we weren't!).

When do you expect to hear from the clinic for the next step?

Re deoderant. I've switched to Bionsen which is a bit friendlier (no cyclo wotsits and no aluminium). I was a bit concerned I'd lose my friends as Bionsen is not an antiperspirant only a deodorant, but it's working fine for me.

In terms of clothes with manky armpits, fill a big bucket with hot water and add a very generous slosh of white vinegar. Soak clothes in the bucket for an hour or two and then wash on 40 degrees as normal. Worked for me!

Kwick709 · 04/03/2016 16:03

Thanks shoes I will try that too!

I should hear tomorrow pm from embryologist!

taydex · 04/03/2016 16:40

Hi ladies,

Caution - No luck with bumping the appointment, but I've not finished trying.

Kwik - 2 eggs is awesome. Well done, you are awesome! Was the procedure painful at all? Good luck with those injections. It is amazing what we'll go through isn't it?! And don't think bad of yourself for that wobble at all. I've had ups and downs all over the place with the IUI and I can totally relate. Sometimes I just feel like a mess. I agree with Shoes - it would be worrying if it wasn't a bit overwhelming at times.

You've just reminded me, I never looked at my smellies to chuck stuff out. Bad mother! He he he. No, I've not bought any maternity clothes but I may have bought some baby clothes! I know, that's really naughty, but I just couldn't help myself. I will take a look at starter packs on Seraphine, I wasn't aware of them. I may have also told my sister our news on Tuesday and she's offered me loads of stuff. My cousin's girlfriend is also pregnant and they're in a less financially happy state than us, so we're going to split the stuff as we can afford new and I'm not sure if they can. Still, be nice to get some mat clothes and baby clothes from my sister, along with whatever other bits we can. Some stuff I'd like to buy brand new but not necessarily all.

Ladies - does the white vinegar not make your clothes smell?

Have a lovely weekend everyone.

TD x

taydex · 04/03/2016 16:47

P.S. He he he, the nursing tops on Seraphine are making me chuckle. If you hover over the picture the ladies show you where the secret flap is. I'm such a child finding that funny!

Kwick709 · 04/03/2016 18:03

The egg collection was fine - I was in the same theatre as hysteroscopy - I walked in took off one gown, and they undid the other, then I got on bed/with stirrups and they did a supersonic scan. Dr said something about number of follicles - like there is one, but I could not hear very well. They then put a oxygen mask on me, got me to cross my arms over my chest, breathe deeply and then I was back with my mum on the ward and was allowed to have tea and biscuits and then about 30 minutes later I left.

ooh will need to check out Seraphine nursing bras! I will probably get some stuff off ebay - I buy lots if things from there second hand anyway so why not maternity wear?

Happy weekend to all! I just ordered a lovely italian meal on Deliveroo... with 3 desserts!!!!

pickle162 · 04/03/2016 18:43

Yay kwick for the two eggs that's fab news :) x

booboo16 · 04/03/2016 19:22

Hey ladies I have been ill the last few days with an ear infection and bad vertigo as a result. Sad I must read back and catch up with you all. I hope everyone is doing well Flowers

taydex · 04/03/2016 19:39

Kwik - Am I being silly or was the egg collection under anaesthetic? I think it's becoming clear I know less than I thought about IVF! I totally agree re getting things second hand. Both maternity wear and baby clothes. After all, no one's in them for long so not really that second hand, hey? Mmm, Italian, sounds delicious! I've just had curry. For the third night in a row. We've finally finished it all though so I'm thinking Italian tomorrow...

Oh no BooBoo I hope you are feeling a bit better now.

Kwick709 · 04/03/2016 19:53

booboo get well soon Flowers vertigo does NOT sound nice!

taydex egg collection under heavy sedation/GA. I did not feel a thing/was not aware of anything. Now I have a little discomfort - so have hot water (well it is seed) bottle applied to my womble area. If it gets worse I will take some paracetamol - I have recently found the joy of kids liquid stuff - so easy to take!

May move on to second dessert now... pannacotta was split which is a shame Sad... hmm Indian sounds good - maybe choice for tomorrow...

CautionHormone · 04/03/2016 20:00

Wow kwick!! 2 eggs is amazing!! I'm so pleased they managed to get a couple. What will the embryologist tell you tomorrow?? Definitely keep a hot water bottle applied to your womble area... I've heard it's like period cramps, a hot water bottle should ease it a bit :) don't worry about having a wobble at the clinic - you're human and this process is emotional, so you're more than entitled to have your moments!!

I went back to the doctors today re scan. She said best bet is to just wait for it. If I haven't heard anything by next week I'm considering going for a gynaecological scan at my fertility clinic - it's only £165 there, compared to the huge £418 at my local private hospital!! I need to get this sorted quickly, I can't have it hindering anything when it comes to me TTC at the end of the year... I know they can work ways around it but I feel like it'd be better to have my regular periods back so it runs more smoothly! X

CautionHormone · 04/03/2016 20:00

Hope you get better soon booboo x

Kwick709 · 04/03/2016 21:00

caution I agree - get to the FC and have that scan! But I think it needs to be a transvaginal one so they can see the womble and the ovaries.

Embryologist will tell me if either or both or none of eggs have fertilised. Then I will continue to be in touch with them until they think it is time to transfer - if I get that far. Very nerve wracking but first I need to stab my bum with a huge needle... God I hope that thought does not keep me awake!!!!

booboo16 · 04/03/2016 21:43

Taydex My DS is 13 yrs old! I'm 34 yrs old. I conceived him naturally. I have been experiencing unexplained secondary infertility. I believe it is from being on the pill for 10 years (I have been off it 3 1/2 yrs)...who knows Hmm . We have been actively TTC with 2 yrs Sad. BTW I didn't experience morning sickness until I was 7 weeks pregnant, but I felt better by 14 weeks. Everyone is different though.

Shoes At least you haven't missed ovulation! That's great news in itself Smile. Any news re your LH surge?

Kwick OMG! Yay! 2 eggs! You must be absolutely delighted... shakes pom poms whilst doing a ridiculous dance Way to go!! I am so excited for you. I can totally understand why you got a bit upset before the procedure. I would be totally the same. Well off you go! Get your butt out ( , )...it's worth it Grin Oh BTW, I'm a 34E! Big ( . ) ( . ) are overrated! Grin It's a total pain in the butt trying to find pretty bras.

Caution I guess they will have to do a scan in order to find out what exactly is going on. I think you should just go & get the scan done...at least you will get some peace of mind. Flowers I had a ovarian cyst after I came off the pill. It actually burst & they could see the liquid shadow on a scan. I just had pain in the crook of my hip that was very painful at times. Thankfully I have been fine since. Apparently it is common to get cysts when you are on the pill.

Pickle ((HUGS)) Flowers You poor thing! You really have had a tough week.. sending you Wine & Chocolate.

I am sitting in my pj's sipping a cup of Brew...I'm feeling much better thank you, despite that I have a horrible cold now as well. Anyway I'll survive! I got my prescription for IUI...I have to take 58 iu of puregon (fsh) daily from cd 2 up to the follicle tracking scan, and then they reassess the situation daily after that. 20 more days until we start our IUI cycle, so I am starting to feel more excited day by day Smile.

Kwick709 · 04/03/2016 21:59

booboo I am loving the boobage pictures :) sorry to hear you have a cold - take care Flowers Best of luck with your IUI!!!
I guess I should be really pleased... someone on another thread who was donating eggs - such an amazing thing to do - had 12 eggs so I was a little deflated.

I have just watched some you tube videos about injecting into my bum... I can do it right? Hmm I think though I will need to ring clinic in the morning - it does not give amount I have to inject anywhere on what they have given me - even though it does for every other medication Angry

CautionHormone · 04/03/2016 22:18

I think you're both right kwick & booboo. I think it may have to be a private scan at the FC..! At least if they do it and nothing is wrong, I would've already had it before my treatment - one less cost!
booboo, that sounds similar to the pains I'm getting. It could be nothing (I'm hoping it's nothing!) but we shall see. I'll speak to Mum as well and see what she thinks - I may ring the ultrasound department at my hospital late next week and see if they've got anymore news on how long it'll be if I haven't heard anything.

Kwick - ah I see! Makes perfect sense now. Keep us all updated, we'll be on tenterhooks waiting Grin good luck with stabbing yourself with a huge needle... That doesn't sound pleasant! X

booboo16 · 04/03/2016 22:37

Kwick All that matters is that those two wonderful little eggs turn into viable embryos.... 12 eggs sadly doesn't entirely mean that they are all viable, but then again perhaps they are...I guess we have to live with the hand that we are dealt with & learn to be happy with our own little miracles! Flowers. As to the bum injection...it is strange that they haven't given you more details as to how much to inject...it's quiet literally a pain in the butt! Is there any late night pharmacy you can ring to try to find out??

Caution My advice is to keep the pressure on them regarding getting a scan...I waited 2 months to hear about my IUI referral & I had a feeling that something was wrong...I rang them & it turned out that my file had not been sent to them! Good thing I did, because everything has run smoothly since then...sometimes we just have to let our voices be heard! Sure what harm can it do?

INeedNewShoes · 05/03/2016 06:42

Hmm. TMI warning...

I've got lots of lovely fertile CM (more than usual in fact) but it's got blood in it (dark brown rather than bright red) I've not experienced this before. I don't know if it's a problem. Maybe it's from the tv ultrasound I had on Wednesday? Has anyone else had this?

Kwick709 · 05/03/2016 07:03

You are absolutely right booboo and I am ever so grateful for my own miracle :)

shoes I do not really follow the cm thing... Do you normally bleed after a scan? Anyway what is your opk telling you? I think you are supposed to get loads of cm to help little fishies make it to egg - so the timing sounds right if you are surging. Perhaps you can contact your clinic?

INeedNewShoes · 05/03/2016 11:35

Kwick I hope you hear good news from the clinic today.

I've not really gone for proper CM monitoring (seems a step too far to be collecting samples from my own cervix!) but enough appears on loo roll to be able to gauge how fertile it is: egg-white consistency/appearance = most fertile and then there are stages either side of this. The stuff I'm getting today is nearly-but-not-quite optimum consistency.

I've done a bit of Googling and I'm not too worried about the blood from what I've read. Just done an OPK which is negative (which is probably a good thing as even growing at the fastest possible rate my lead follicle would only be about 16mm today so not ready to ovulate really).

taydex · 05/03/2016 12:24

Morning (just about!),

Kwik - Ah, that makes sense. I thought it would be under GA but wasn't sure. I hope the pain is going and the hot water bottle is doing its thing. My other friend who was in for egg collection on Friday too sent me a text this morning saying it's a no this cycle Sad I haven't the heart to tell her about is yet. So, you're doing better than her... When will you get an update from the clinic? Is it about 5 days till you get them back (will they do both if viable or save one for another cycle?). I presume they monitor them and let you know when's best? How did the giant needle stabbing in the bum go? Can you get someone like your Mum to do it for you?

BooBoo - Wow a 13 year old. That must be fun...! Sounds like I came off quite lucky after being on the pill for a good 10/12 years (actually thinking about it it was probably more like 14...). I've heard a few people having issues after coming off it. Thanks for telling morning sickness info. Sounds like everyone is different but doesn't sound as bad as I thought it might be. We'll see. Might be famous last words! Exciting stuff re your medication. Starting to feel real now, hey? Love the boobs pics! Grin

Caution - I agree with the others re your FC. Maybe give it a few days/till end of the week to give the NHS a chance? I definitely wouldn't condone telling your GP the pain is getting worse to get an earlier appointment he he.Wink

Shoes - Never TMI on here! He he. I've never experienced that after scan but it would be totally feasible. Especially as it sounds more like old and not fresh blood. Can you ask the clinic? Good luck with the tests. I chucked my spare ones in the post to you. Should arrive by Monday if that's not too late for you. Oh, and don't be fooled by the pre test box they're in. That was just because the box was smaller so cheaper to post!

Pickle - You feeling any better yet?
